I love to watch you build things, Jason. Wish I could have you here for a few days, I have used a couple of your ideas to build things. I'm 85 years old and you're my inspiration.
Arlene, you are now my inspiration. I've never built anything and when I watch Jason I always want to build something (easy, of course). After reading your comment I have no excuse so it's time to get off my 55 yr old butt and build those elevated beds I've been wanting. Thank you!
Hi.... Jason what amazing chicken coop door it close by itself, thank you for sharing your video homestead chicken farmer garden 👋 bye 👋 bye 👋 bye 👋 🐔🐓🐥🌱🎥👍👍👍
This is cool to see as I am an Executive in the Robotics industry and I like to see people use new technology on homesteads as this is what I plan on doing. Great video!
Jason, You are so talented. I love the way you can figure how to do anything with what you have. Your attitude about life and family is outstanding. Keep up the great work and Take Care and Be Safe.
All I can say is it’s a substitute for you not being there exactly when it needs to be opened and closed. However, I’ve had chickens get caught in our automatic door several times, some lightly injured. Just make sure you go down and check and don’t substitute the door for making sure they’re all In. I’ve also had chickens get left out after sunset and were sitting outside the door waiting on me when I got there. All that said, though… Good job!😁👍
Arnold Romppai I find raccoons and possums near my coop well before 40 mins after sunset...so I can’t leave it open for that long after sunset. Ever. Ever found a possum in your coop at sundown? I have. Also, I find that resetting the door CONSTANTLY during the time of year when sunset changes by several minutes per day is tedious. Lastly, I have an egg business, and I have 120 free range birds. I won’t even go into what protecting my investment means to me. If I have to grab a bird out of a tree, I will. Sometimes the hens simply don’t want to “run the mating gauntlet” through the roosters to go into the coop. I just put two of them into the coop tonight when I manually went to close the door - one named Lizzie, one a banty Welsummer w/ no name. Those I put away tonight ARE still in lay. Many have names, and several I know the patterns on the eggs they lay. I definitely got an egg from Lizzie today. There’s ZERO correlation between roosting in tree and not being in lay...FYI. If you want to just let nature cull for you, that’s fine...but I do the culling around here and I would NEVER let a bird just be ripped apart by a predator because they’re “dumb.”🤷🏻♀️ It doesn’t teach the bird a lesson...and it makes my job of providing eggs harder. To each his own, but I NEVER use my auto door anymore. Waste of money to me.
Love seeing all those bolts instead of screws for the hinges. They will be there for the life of the coop and won't come out. Although not entirely necessary, I would like to see the excess length of the bolts cut off flush with the nuts, just to be neat and nice and safe for the birds. Overall, a good job and a great idea, Jason!
Great idea, Jason. I just hope your chicken fencing keeps those clever raccoons away from the Coop, because their agile little paws and fingers would find that opener button, and open the door to their chicken buffet.
Jeepers, what will they think of next - an electrified tooth brush? an electrified can opener? WOW the most fun was watching Jason's face and hearing him laugh.
My husband was just talking about doing this. Sharing with him. Thanks for posting this - I love what you guys have done. My husband and I also left the city and moved to a small town (Dallas > Tokyo > Wairarapa region of New Zealand) and are slowly planting and transforming our property. We don't have nearly as much land as you guys, but you guys are inspiring. We will be posting along our journey soon too. We're learning a lot from you! Keep up the great work!
Hello Old school love the job. I am big on gluing everything. It makes a difference. Also someone gave you honey comb. Take and melt comb into ice trays making ice cube size beeswax balls and rub the wax on screws or nails and they go in much easyer. Keep it up love your story
David Marshall I’m guessing he still goes out and checks on them. I know when I had a small coop and run below my second floor bedroom window, it got old going out on their schedule. I attached a string to the door mechanism so that when they started in I could just reach over and yank it to let them out. I still went out to check on them shortly but on my schedule and not theirs. :-)
Looks very sturdy. I have one with a string that lifts the sliding pop door. String tanging and wear has been an issue. I also love the box protecting the electronics.
Love the auto door openers however spending more on the opener then the coop is hard to do. the reason we build the coops is to save money. Great job Jason on installing the opener. You all have a Great day!
Note to self, "Hey self, be sure to make changes to your chicken coop plans when you get home. You need to add an automatic solar power coop door system." Love the idea, definitely on the list.
A couple of thoughts Mount the solar panel mounting pipe in a larger pipe with a thumb screw or wing nut to be able to reposition the solar if you change the direction of the coop Second thought Put the wiring in a plastic wireing loom protecter used in engine compartments or puting it on PVC pipe I could see the chickens pecking it at it or trying to roost on it
Hi Jason, a great build. I'm 276 viewers behind but I hope someone suggested that you take a sawzall/hacksaw and cut those bolts shorter, preventing injuries to family and birds or snagging summer dresses and aprons. How did you secure the top door and are you planning to attaching bolt locks so that the door can swing as one? It looks like this was one project that got you truly excited. Made me smile too, thanks!
Next progect: a whole chicken run that moves itself ,has internal GPS programming on were to go, and you put in all the feed at once and it portions it out daily, and a water hose attached, and it also has cameras with predator recognition and health analysis, and it send your phone alerts on about what's going on
I just discovered you about a week ago. I've been binge watching! I really enjoy your videos. I'm learning how much I can do with my just a little more than an acre lot! You're such precious people!!
Look like a chicken came over and checked out your work...😆 chicken approved 😁 no tv huh..😂 You make it look so easy all the time.. Have a wonderful evening with 🌻🌻
A boy and his toys! That's a cool door! Might work on a greenhouse window? Just thinking about when I finish my green house I'm working on now. Might just work!
You can DIY this setup using a simple car window motor and a car window switch and a couple car door openers to push the window buttons as the brute force method. simple electronics to do it a bit more complicated for DIY unless you know how to solder and a circuit diagram. also btw, predators can try to pull it open, it is much harder for animals to push up, so a door that slides up to open in rails is more secure, so you can do that as a smaller door inside your 'man door'.
Jason, you have a hit on your hands! That is totally awesome. Good use of technology and solar energy. Be sure to report on how it continues to work long time.
Hey Jason, I am pretty new to your channel but I have seen you on Justin's channel and enjoyed watching you on there. I have to say that you make me feel less overwhelmed with the idea of building things myself and your instructions are pretty straightforward and easy to understand so thanks for making it a bit less daunting.
Oh my word! How cool is this! I love this! It's So 2019!!! You are a Hoot, Jason! I'm curious to see if the chickens go in in time before it closes at night!
That's cool. Nice of them to send it to you to try out and offer a discount code. Now you can sleep in 😂😂 Jason, you were like a kid at Christmas 😁 a good thing. Be safe, be good, God bless
Thank you for the video, Jason! I love it that you call those doors 'Dutch Doors' :D I'm Dutch, but we don't have those fun doors, I guess it's about the door splitting in two? I wonder why you call it that... Ah well, who cares; they are fun and look perfect for this job indeed! Take care. Blessings.
Just subscribed. came from Justin's channel. Love the job you are doing on his freezer and that absolutely Beautiful Large Green House your built them.
Hi Jason. Thinking about all-weather workability, in winter, Ice is going to build up on your mechanism and stop it working and burn out the motor. Unless of course you cover the mechanism and door with a roof to protect it from precip/ice build up. Thanks for the video.
I can really relate to going out late because I forgot to close the coop, like last night. I've been wanting to get one for a while now but when we get moved to the new homestead I will have to make everything bear proof.
Might want to add some diagonal cross support in each door so they don't sage on the far side down the way. And I'm sure you did it but I would nip off those bolts so no one gets scratched by them or they hang up on something.
Nice job! I was curious to know about the door closing.... how will the chickens know when the door is going to close or do they naturally go to bed so to speak at dusk. I would worry about a chicken or duck being left out all night if they didn't get themselves inside before the door closes.
That is so COOL!.. Good job.... I am in Australia hence too expensive to ship, there must be someone here who sells these.. yeah it is mainly the closing of the coupe when not home at sunset and there are plenty of predators around.. so would be a device to get...

Me too... I was wondering about a timer😂.
Do the ducks get in before the door closes?
I hope so! 🤔 I remember Sean saying they go to bed late ... 😉

Have you noticed that men are so easily impressed by the most mortal things? That automated arm sounds so good when it got the door closed...
Jason, You are so talented. I love the way you can figure how to do anything with what you have. Your attitude about life and family is outstanding. Keep up the great work and Take Care and Be Safe.
When you do something you do it right. I am pretty sure I won't be getting one but watching how happy it made you was a hoot.

That was my fear exactly. Machines cannot replace human thought process.

Sure sounds like a waste...maybe letting everyone out is worth it...but closing sounds too dangerous to me.
All the chickens are going to be jealous of Bernice! 🐓That really looks like a great improvement to the homestead. have a great weekend!💕
Manually opening and closing your coop is soooo last year!!!! Great video!!!
Thanks for the tips! We will be building some Suscovich tractors and one day... a solar door!
Wow! So happy for you and the chickens. I can tell you are so ecstatic by your fantastic laugh. Welcome to modern-day farming!
So twenty eighteen! I’m old. Fascinating to me this is “rocket science”, ur in NC! That’s so fine. The future is yours!

Great idea, Jason. I just hope your chicken fencing keeps those clever raccoons away from the Coop, because their agile little paws and fingers would find that opener button, and open the door to their chicken buffet.
Love it! But I would shorten those bolts for safety. 🥰
15 minutes with a Right angle grinder or a Recip saw will fix that
Jeepers, what will they think of next - an electrified tooth brush? an electrified can opener? WOW the most fun was watching Jason's face and hearing him laugh.
There ARE electric tooth brushes and can openers.
Just imagine a horseless carriage.
@@TheresaPowers Mary W must have a strange sense of humor that we aren't getting.
Jason you remind me of Al from Lumnah Acres 😀. Both of you are so talented and build the most amazing things 😄

Jason , loved watching you ,can tell you really enjoy putting things together
Nice job. I wish you and your family good luck and God’s Grace on your homestead.
Homesteading of the future. Brilliant. Now you just need a mechanized time-regulated feeder.
Awesome install. Now you just need to be able to trust it works 100% of the time. I would be out there every night just to make sure.
Man you living in 3019 while all us regular folks here in 2019 that’s a pretty sweet set up
21st century to the homestead. Nice work Jason!!
WOW! Techno chicken right there!! You are so great to watch....so full of enthusiasm and a great builder of things! Blessings from NE Missouri!
Hello
Old school love the job.
I am big on gluing everything.
It makes a difference.
Also someone gave you honey comb. Take and melt comb into ice trays making ice cube size beeswax balls and rub the wax on screws or nails and they go in much easyer.

I hope they gave it to you for advertising reasons, because it's silly. I actually enjoy going out and checking in on them every morning. Peace

Congratulations great video as usual. You're almost at 50000 subscribers, how great is that!
Denise Koffroth did they pass 50 in the last 18hrs? 👍🏼
Jason you tickle the mess out of me. You’re the bestest!
That is awesome. I could have used that years ago when I raised chickens.
This is in my top 5 coolest homesteading helpers.
Note to self, "Hey self, be sure to make changes to your chicken coop plans when you get home. You need to add an automatic solar power coop door system."

*GOOD NIGHT FRIEND & FAMILY CONGRATULATIONS FOR THE PROFESSIONALISM*
A couple of thoughts
Mount the solar panel mounting pipe in a larger pipe with a thumb screw or wing nut to be able to reposition the solar if you change the direction of the coop
Second thought
Put the wiring in a plastic wireing loom protecter used in engine compartments or puting it on PVC pipe I could see the chickens pecking it at it or trying to roost on it
We bought the solar AdorStore. ADOR1, we love them ,no problems. Chickens figured them out , they like going out early and I can sleep in.
I love 💕 to watch all your videos thanks for sharing

Super cool Linear actuator super cool build great for a diy.
I think it's awesome! Cut those bolts off or cover them so the chickens don't get hurt :) Nice work!
Can’t wait for your friend, Justin R to see this!😊
Super neat idea. Now you only need to figure out how to make the chicken tractor move on its on. Maybe attach a BIG Roomba to if. 😜😋😀😁😄
Great project, and great product for movable coops and tractors.

Great video, sir!
A bit out of my budget but definitely a great contraption.
Though the solar was for the chicken's cellphones. It is kind of neat. Would be handy to ventilate a greenhouse.

Ice does not build up. Works great in winter.
For future reference a diagonal brace will prevent the door from sagging over time, good job 👍 I need one of these for my menagerie
Nice! Great improvement to make life easier. Thanks Jason.
Curious to see if the chickens will peck at the cord to the solar panel.
I can really relate to going out late because I forgot to close the coop, like last night. I've been wanting to get one for a while now but when we get moved to the new homestead I will have to make everything bear proof.
