Blackout is exactly who the movie needed. As the first Deception on screen, he sets the tone for just how dangerous and destructive the Deceptions can be. His alt-mode works very well to establish dread in the opening. No other vehicle would be as intimidating, and the design is in my top 5 Decepticons in the movies.

The first time I ever heard of Blackout was when it was the name of a Mini-Con from Transformers: Armada. So, by the time I saw the ‘07 film, I was already familiar with the name. But, I didn’t expect him to have a head design that had a minuscule Gundam design influence, armed to the teeth with missiles, EMP shockwave emitters, chainguns, rotor blades that can act as a buzzsaw melee weapon, and transform into an MH-53 Pave Low helicopter. Whoever came up with that idea is a genius imo.

One of those movie moments that I will always remember...up there with Cap yelling Avengers Assemble in Endgame. Its sad though the the movies got progressively worse as Bays complete disinterest in storytelling and character development ruined things. But that first movie, while definitely far from perfect, was definitely special :) and it's stories like what you shared about you, your dad and your son having this shared connection to a decepticon of all things that adds to that specialness 👍👍👍👍
I have an unused story for Transformers RPG. Where Bayverse Shattered Glass battle crew on a mission was transported to a G1 continuity. The Decepticon members of the Battle Crew: Blackout (Leader) - Scorponok Barricade (Leutenant) Bonecrusher Nitro Zeus Mohawk Berserker Crankcase Crowbar Hatchet Their mission was to capture the Autobot Bounty Hunter Devcon and his minions who was also transported to G1. That would be confusing to players since they normally fight Decepticons, they don't know the enemy since Decepticons under Blackout are good guys. While Devcon is commission after Wheeljack's Immobilizer. Now Decepticon Battle Crew attacks the players since they are autobots. As a GM it's up to the players to discover they were from a Shattered Glass. However the play group got really busy and we never had a chance to play this story plot.
Sounds like an interesting plot....first time I heard of applying the shattered glass concept to the bayverse 👍 although I CAN imagine a good Blackout though as they recolored his original toy into Evac 👍
@@StoriesFromTheToyshelf There of fan made kit bash of Bayverse to recolor of other TF lines. But I only thought this plot would go much harder since Bayverse robot designs are just meaner and grittier. Those guys would freak out I'm sure.
Nice! How is the MP? Like I stated in the video I ended up with the OS version of the SS toy. I was tempted with the MP and depending on the size, call the smaller one Blackout and the larger one Grindor 😅

I think some people keep forgetting Transformers is for the visuals and fun, if you are trying to find a deep meaning and character lore it's equivilent to wasting time finding a plot in a porno.
Yes the visuals and fun are important, but a good story with good characters will always make any movie better, which many would appreciate. Where Bay saw just a commercial for toys, Spielberg saw a story about a boy and his car and built around thay. Which is why the first movie while definitely not perfect will always be infinitely better than the sequels Bay did on his own. Also yes they don't have to be deep characters, but I think we could do with less "explosion porn" 🤣
As much as his design sucked. His introduction of the transformers was so amazing that I can’t help but love him. Makes you wonder why he’s gotten very few incarnations outside of the movie. His game voice actors were also very cool.
Oh I never heard his voice. But yeah he needs to make a comeback. Especially in the Legacy line :) and to be fair I thought his movie design was OK....but that backpack was a bit much 😅
I can ignore the backpack but the cape can go to the inferno when you realize that in practice he's constantly facing the threat of cutting himself in the legs with the blades
I think the smaller scale is superior as a reboot. If I have to choose between smaller figures and bigger figures, I'm going to choose the space saver. Bigger does not equal better. Plastic quality, ease of transformation, media accuracy, sturdiness of engineering, and paint applications decide if a transformer is better. Now, granted the masterpiece and upscaled figures generally possess those qualities, I can't afford to finance a house with space to store a collection of over 200 masterpiece scale figures. Which is why I prefer CHUG. I also generally prefer the G1 art style, so WFC, Legacy, and SS86 have been my preferred lines. I do still enjoy buying master piece figures, but generally only for very specific designs and characters which I think merit a greater presence in my collection. If I already have 10 Optimus prime figures, well then 2 masterpiece primes won't hurt to have. But if I had to collect an entire cast of masterpiece, and wait years for their release schedule, that's just not going to work for me. Masterpiece generally looks great and feels great, but their designs are often excessively complicated or disproportionate to realize. Which is why I generally prefer the fun-oriented generations figures, especially the ones which totally reimagine the character's design and transformation in a way which is unique and fun, but still authentic to classic form and personality. To me having a good figure is more about how well it captures the energy and impression of the subject, and not how perfectly it totally replicates every minute detail. Smoother rounded boxy designs are more ergonomic and simple, as well as less prone to damage or paint chipping. But don't get me started on plastic yellowing. FFS hasbro, find a better supplier.
I honestly don't mind the smaller scale in theory and agree with the points you bring up. For me it was more of the fact that they didn't fit with what was there before. So like myself who had gone pretty much all in on all the previous movie toys and. Was hoping for a properly sized Blackout, I was out of luck with the new Studio Series one cuz despite being an improvement in almost every way, it still wouldn't work in my current collection. As for chug vs MP, yes it all boils down to what type of collector we are or what about the TFs do we value I guess as both have their pros and cons. I collect both. As my then 4 year old put it, daddy has two collections, one for play, and one for display 😅

Great video! Sorry for rambling on & getting all emotional.
Sometimes life really is a beautiful circle.
Hey thanks for sharing! I completely don't mind the rambling 😅 first off I do hope you're doing better these days! I'm not very knowledgeable with the MS but I'm hoping that rehab and treatment is going well.
For what it was, the first movie was really good. I mean I guess since Spielberg was more was more involved, there was someone to keep Bay sort of in check 😅 and yeah seeing a Blackout transform and come ro life was DEFINITELY.
Boackout is my favorite transformer. I got the MPM 13 BLACKOUT, The most recent amd most accurate toy yet, on my desk at work
Nice! I never got one myself since I already had the OS Hide Shadow. But I did hear that the MPM was great!
I have an unused story for Transformers RPG. Where Bayverse Shattered Glass battle crew on a mission was transported to a G1 continuity. The Decepticon members of the Battle Crew:
Blackout (Leader)
- Scorponok
Barricade (Leutenant)
Bonecrusher
Nitro Zeus
Mohawk
Berserker
Crankcase
Crowbar
Hatchet
Their mission was to capture the Autobot Bounty Hunter Devcon and his minions who was also transported to G1.
Imagine G1 Wheeljack, Cliffjumper, Bumblebee, Sideswipe and Sunstreaker with their clean blocky aesthetics, encounters Bayverse Blackout, Barricade, and the Dreads and see the Decepticon insignia. Those guys would freak out I'm sure.
@@redheartnorvus8997 yes there is that..the bayverse decepticons generally do look evil 🤣
I love him. He didn't say a word and that's okay. Bought the masterpiece this week so this video is kinda funny to me lol
Nice! How is the MP? Like I stated in the video I ended up with the OS version of the SS toy. I was tempted with the MP and depending on the size, call the smaller one Blackout and the larger one Grindor 😅
Hi, ok so i don't wan't to open it because i like to collect...i'm thinking of buying another one just to open it haha.
I wan't the wei jiang one now, but i can't find it in europe
@@DanielReisi well if you do end messing with it or get an extra one let me know how it turns out!
@DanielReisi hmmm I would think he would be easier to find after thr MPM release with people selling them off for the official one. But I guess they're going the Blackout/Grindor route 😅
Blackout is a character we all love and where we got into the bayverse.
In a way you can say that he started it all!
i hope to see blackout and grinder in there animated designs in a future transformers series
Same! Would love to see them in the Legacy line!
grindor appeared in transformers animated based off of his armada version, also bayverse grindor had to be called grinder in transfomrers animated
Oh I didn't know that...as in he appeared in the actual cartoon? Or as concept art revealed later on?
@@StoriesFromTheToyshelf concept art
@harrishyatt6283 nice! I also googled it he he. He definitely would have been released as a Blackout recolor if the show and toylinenhadnt been cancelled. Still sore over that 😅
1:38 There actually was another Blackout in Transformers Energon which turned into a helicopter.
He was part of the combiner Bruticus Maximus, and despite the name none of the members had the names of the G1 combaticons; also the “not Onslaught” of the team was named Barricade.
Oh I did not know that! Thanks for that new bit of info. It makes more sense! Much Appreciated 👍👍👍
i hope to see shadowhawk (terroncon blackout) in a future transformers series, also hope to see blackout in his armada design in a future transformers series, as well as hoping to see teiden (autobot version of armada blackout) in a future transformers series, along with seeing grinder (decepticon version of armada grindor) in a future transformers series too
That's a lot of versions of Blackout I was not aware of 😅 for me I'd appreciated a legacy G1 ified version 👍👍👍
Simple answer, yes, that was my favorite character in the first movie
Good choice :) for me it's a toss up between him and Barricade 👍
They call him Grindor in Revenge of the Fallen game
Yup that's the big question if they are one and the same :)
He was actually killed by F22s PLUS Lennox shooting him.
Oh I didn't see the F22s taking him out....all I saw was the crotch shot 😅 gotta go do a rewatch then. Thanks!
Very cool video as always :)
At the beginning are those chocolate coins? Also good job on the video
I don't know about the chocolate coins 😅 but thank you! Much appreciated :)
Video is great but the music is too loud dude
Thanks for the feedback! Appreciate it! Will definitely keep that in mind for future videos! Hope you come back to check them out :)
idk why but Blackout is just one of those characters you like, but he does close to nothing in the grand scheme of things
Most of them hardly do anything ....but die. But yeah Blackout has the distinction of being the first live action TF we see and he's awesome at it so there's that!
I love Blackout but I don't collect movie toys. So, since the Legacy line started I had the hope Hasbro would make a g1 version of him, kinda like the one at 12:08
Yeah he would be a GREAT Legacy line release :)
blackout was a mini-con in transformers armada
OK cool! What did he transform into then?
@@StoriesFromTheToyshelf a six-wheeled APC/anti-aircraft vehicle, also blackout was a terrorcon, along with being a different character called blackout that turned into a helicopter and was a combiner
Blackout is my favorite Decepticon ever.
Cool :) hope my story on him was OK 😅
@@StoriesFromTheToyshelf To be fair it was a pretty positive story
@bhunt799 ha ha thanks! I try to give them their just due..I mean I DO have him in my collection :)
What are your thoughts on MPM 13 Blackout?
I actually didn't get MPM Blackout but I heard good stuff about it. I ended up getting the OS version of SS Blackout, Hide Shadow by Wei Jiang. If I do end up getting him, I'll probably name the larger one Grindor 😅
Exelent vídeo 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Thank you!!! Much appreciated!
Excellent character
💯 agree! I just wished that they used him more!
He certainly made an impression.
A good one on you I hope 😅
It's not so much that there wasn't a dark colored decepticon who transformed into a helicopter and specialized in information extraction back in g1, he was there he just went by Vortex, he was a Combaticon and combined with others to form Bruticus.
That whom a lot assumed he would be. Fortunately they went with Blackout. I prefer that new character:)
@@StoriesFromTheToyshelf I found out about Vortex by complete accident. I'd like to think that Vortex and Blackout are the same character.
@@ursidae97 I wouldn't mind that...had they included the rest of the Combaticons 😅
@@StoriesFromTheToyshelf It's never too late to see a cinematic Bruticus. And if they included his autobot twin Blades I would appreciate him being a heroically redesigned version of Blackout rather than a fully original concept. Just some fan service.
@ursidae97 actually there was a "heroic" repaint of Balckout called Evac in the 2007 toyline :)
And he was in two games transformers the game and transformers revenge of the fallen the game both on xbox 360 and the Wii
OK good to know, unfortunately I never played any of the movie related games. Was he a playable character? Or a level boss?
@@StoriesFromTheToyshelf yes he was on both games but on transformers revenge of the fallen if you pick the autobot side, he was a boss, but if you pick Decepticon side, then you can be blackout/grindor same thing with the first game if you pick the Decepticons side, then you can be blackout, but if you pick the autobot side, then you can fight him
@@Barricade6430 that sounds cool! If you play the Decepticon side as Blackout, who is the Autobot boss you have to take down?
@@StoriesFromTheToyshelf for transformers the game you can take out Ironhide but for transformers revenge of the fallen you can pick any decepticon you want like you can pick grindor and fight Optimus or grindor vs bumblebee
@@StoriesFromTheToyshelf oh and transformers, revenge of the fallen had multiplayer, but the first game didn’t
you only need to make this 4 words long
cool robot
cool vehicle
True. But I would have also greatly appreciated cool personality 😅
This guy makes great videos but damn he loves stock images lmao
Yup! That's me 😅 glad you like the videos though :)
@@StoriesFromTheToyshelf Yep I'm enjoying all your videos so far but I suggest you to put some footage instead of stock photos. It's more engaging
@pacstermh thanks appreciate the feedback! Yes I'm thinking of ways to be less reliant of stock photos. But out of necessity they'll most likely still be around in future videos...albeit in lesser quantities 👍👍👍 that's the plan at least :)
Also yes they don't have to be deep characters, but I think we could do with less "explosion porn" 🤣
yeah but like, transformers is really gay in the first place and the first 5 movies imo are the only good stuff so idc
@@alobaymar hoooookay thanks for the engagement anyway 😅
As much as his design sucked. His introduction of the transformers was so amazing that I can’t help but love him. Makes you wonder why he’s gotten very few incarnations outside of the movie. His game voice actors were also very cool.
Oh I never heard his voice. But yeah he needs to make a comeback. Especially in the Legacy line :) and to be fair I thought his movie design was OK....but that backpack was a bit much 😅
I can ignore the backpack but the cape can go to the inferno when you realize that in practice he's constantly facing the threat of cutting himself in the legs with the blades
@ignitedmotion5807 true true 😅 at least he looked cool from the front :p
yee
Not really a fan of this dude
He was OK for me. Lacked any proper development. But then again, par for the course for a Bayformer 😅
BTW thanks for the comment! I truly enjoy the discussions spawned between fellow passionate collectors :) keep them coming!
