Don't ya just love how the music gets so loud at the end that you only hear about half of the information about the Osprey? Best editing ever!
yeah I was thinking maybe he did it on purpose? Cuz he know nobody wants to hear is technical excuses for putting a non-helcopter at #1?
You cannot beat Airwolf where it can rise to the edge of space and hit mach 2
So true...
@@jeromewagschal9485😂😂😂
The lady rules!
yeah what the hell, I assumed airwolf to be nr 1!:D
My Dad worked at a hospital that had a Trauma center, and he loved helping people in dire need. On night there was an accident at Luke AFB and the guy was so badly injured that they put him in a Chanook and flew directly to the Hospital. They didn’t have communications set up, so when the ER staff heard the helo landing they all went outside to see what was going on and the Chanook was moving so much air with its twin rotors that it knocked everything over, and pushed the garbage bins out into the parking lot.
Chinook is not named after a dog, its named after a tribe of native Americans from the Pacific Northwest in the US.
US helicopters are named after Native American tribes or leaders, Black Hawk was leader of a group of Fox and Sauk Indians.
US Army helicopters are named for Native Americans for the most part. Chinook is a tribe in the Pacific Northwest, Apache AH-64, OH-58 Kiowa, UH-1 Iroquois (Huey), UH-60 Black Hawk was a war chief, OH-6 Cayuse, UH-72 Lakota, RAH-66 Comanche. There are a few helo's that never made it out of testing phase but still have a Native American name.
Clarity. Much appreciated
the chinook was once used to carry a mi-25 to the US
You have to admit, the narrator claiming the "Dog" moniker, is a Most Clever method of enticing viewers to comment & engage with the channel, and so augmenting the value of the video. A "Chinook" is also the moniker for 2 types of wind, a subspecies of salmon, AND a breed of Dog, besides the name of an Aboriginal Native Band & Aircraft.
Oh....to rub it in the natives faces...we took your land and name our weapons of destruction after you 😂
He never said it was named after a dog... he just said it had the same name as a breed of dog ;)
Watch the level of the background audio , got way too high for the last helicopter on the list .
By definition it is absolutely a helicopter.
Definition of a helicopter;
“a type of aircraft which derives both lift and propulsion from one or more sets of horizontally revolving overhead rotors. It is capable of moving vertically and horizontally, the direction of motion being controlled by the pitch of the rotor blades.”
In horizontal flight the Osprey derives lift from it's wings. it's a plane. Look carefully at the reach of the wing it has elevators. The world's fastest helicopter is the Westalnd Lynx 400kmh a record unbeaten since 1986.
@@scottdyke7853 So does that mean that helicopters like the Sikorsky S-69 advancing blade concept and AH-56 Cheyenne are out of the question?
@@prestonkane3641 Interesting point, Thank you. I guess the ABC is similar to the Russian Ka52. Both the S69 and the AH-56 sit in 'a bit of a grey area'
The mastering of the sound towards the end is really top notch. Good job.
The OSPREY is classed as a VTOL aircraft!
I am a former military helicopter pilot (Vietam/Balkan/Iraq). Basing "capability" of any helicopter focused on "speed" alone is absolute bovine spatter. What? Does anyone believe we'll be "dog fighting" helicopter aviation threats? Zig Zagging thru the wild blue circling for position? "Mine goes faster than yours" is a vacuous pissing contest that loses before it starts. Tactics and training with the best equipment for the threat environment is the winning strategy. How many winners came out of the Mitsubishi A6M Japanese Zero overhyped to defeat the U.S.? Or the German Messerschmitt Bf 109 or Focke-Wulf Fw 190? I really "loved" the super uninformed U.S. MEDIA hype bovine spatter about how "superior" Saddam Hussein's military was. Yep, took us all of 100 hours to defeat the "mother of all armies." I don't mind reading and viewing advances in equipment, but such comparisons need to be on "mission" comparable basis and not focused on just one attribute alone. You might want to take a moment to do some homework and read about: "J-CATCH, short for Joint Countering Attack Helicopter, was a joint US Army-US Air Force experiment in dissimilar air combat between jet fighters and attack helicopters, conducted in 1978/79. To the surprise of many involved in the program, the helicopters proved extremely dangerous to the fighters when they were properly employed, racking up a 5-to-1 kill ratio over the fighters when fighting at close ranges with guns." Now - THERE is a true comparison of "capability" vs "Speed." Food for thought. John
uhhhh, seems like they were just talking about the fastest helos in the world. Not sure why you're ranting about all the other history.
You seem to me like a man who knows his stuff. As a favor to me would you comment on the question of, Is the Osprey a helicopter or not, and your informed reasons for such, thank you.
In my opinion, V-22 ospray is propeller plane which can both vertically take-off and landing.
I am inclined to agree... tilt rotor is a class of its own, but the civilian tilt rotor by agusta (AW609, which I do not think it has been released yet) is also classed as a helicopter.
I'm old enough to remember when the Comanche was supposed to be the successor to the Apache.
Yeah, I think it even featured in the Jungle Strike game of the 90's. Was to be the dog bollocks of heli's.
That design had come back in a slightly slower fashion on the new Bell Invictus, but newer designs seem to have eliminated the enclosed tail fan for a less stealthy traditional tail rotor.
Look at the original concept designs and compare to Comanche. Then look at the tail on the current bell website
Airwolf!
Enough said!
My dream , to this day is to produce interatmoshere vehicles..im 48, and the dreams alive!
The Bell 222 came out in 1979 and had a speed of 265 mph and ceiling limit of 20,000 feet. Was only in one once. Awesome aircraft.
I flew the old Pan Am Bell 222 helicopters back in the 1980's. Flew nice as long as the nodal beam transmission mount system was fresh . The engines were another story.... Lycoming LTS 101's, always made metal back then, necessitating many engine changes. Although the current version of the engine has had the reliability greatly improved. But yeah it was fun to fly!
It had a speed of 424km/h. Ahh I dont think so!
Nice looking helicopter, you're getting your mph and kph confused. The official world record holder is the Westland Lynx -400kph, set in 1986
Was it Black by any chance and flown by a guy called Stringfellow Hawk??
@@265justy I was starting to feel the Airwolf vibe in this thread.
It's Beautiful ❤😂
1:47 ... priceless!
The Osprey isn't a helicopter, and therefore should not be included in this list.
16:22 sound editor really had enough
yeah, what happened?
@@chieduagain either he needs to come closer to his mic or he needed to turn the volume down
To me, of all the helicopters mentioned in this list,
the mil mi-35 looks really menacing.
The lockheed AH-56 cheyenne should be on this list too it was capable of a top speed of 244mph
I cant believe those huge helicopters are so fast
Except for things such as atmospheric sealing and Mach 1 everything in the series could be accomplished including stealth capabilities through paint applications just like they did with the SR-71 and that application has existed since the late 60s and the use of ultra quiet blades such as was used on Seal Team sixes helicopters
I got to admit I wanted to see the helicopter on the opening picture! Good information!
everyone knows that Airwolf is the fastest and most badass helocopter of all
If you're allowing prototypes or nonstandard rotor aircraft, you should at least include the Lockheed AH-56 Cheyenne with a tested airspeed of 245 mph. Impressive for a late 1960s design, capable of operating a mere 10 feet off the ground. The U.S. Army opted for the A10 Warthog instead.
Should have allowed airwolf with that thumbnail.
I was thinking harrier jump jet should have topped the list
Good option out though. A10 is a life saver. Literally.
Love how the AF was angry because it had wings...
JFC.
@@h00ligan64 A10 is just a fighter mafia propaganda tool. Nothing more. A10 is more dangerous in close contact to all own units than to the enemy. His percentage success in the fight is also debatable and he is often given credit that does not belong to him. The Ah-56 Cheyenne was absolutely ahead of its time, and due to the disgusting political reasons of the US Air Force, the project was finally stopped.
Airwolf is by far the fastest helicopter.
That's a good approach to the video's commentary
wow, totally left out the the CH-53 series. The CH-53K King Stallion cruises at over 200 mph ....loaded...which I have seen them going over 250 mph.
The helicopter world record is 249mph in a specially modified Westland lynx so that's unlikely. Really hard to go faster than that in a conventional helicopter as the tip of the advancing blades start to get near supersonic speeds. The blades of the lynx were specially designed to deal with the effects of going that fast
Being in US Army, Navy and Airforce is like a Dream come true...!
Missed the H53E, cruise is 180 have had it over 240 knotts. crazy for such abeast of a helicopter
Chinook dog?????????? A Chinook is a wind that blows down from the Rocky Mountains and can clear 4 feet of snow in a matter of hours and raise the winter temperature from freezing to spring like.
it's also a dog breed as a quick google would have told you...
The Chinook is the official state dog of New Hampshire. It's also a type of salmon (fish).
Also the largest salmon.
"Chinook" (shi-nook) is a native American word that has been applied to many things... from weather events, to animals, to aircraft. In it's most literal usage, it can used as a word to mean "swift", "fleeting"... but also used in terms of describing something to be highly adaptive, enduring, and/or elusive.
@@antygod How DARE you take away their outrage with your "logic" and "reasoning".
Some french helos deserved to figure in this list, like Puma, Gazelle and Dauphin
Never mentioned the CH-53E, Natops Flight Manual Limited to 150 KIAS, But with A Sikorky test pilot on the controls, I saw 220 KIAS on the airspeed indicator, just over 250 MPH! We exceeded 170 Knots regularly in operation, about 195 MPH. until the osprey, the USMC's fastest Rotorcraft.
Bell AH-1Z Viper (255 mph)
Sikorsky S-97 Raider (252 mph)
Westland Lynx (247 mph)
Sikorsky CH-53E Super Stallion (195 mph)
Eurocopter AS365 Dauphin (190 mph)
Bell UH-1Y Venom (188 mph)
Boeing AH-64 Apache (182 mph)
Based on max speed.
This is a nicely written and produced vid. Respect ✊🏼
Good day thanks for the support and help 🙂
If we go strictly conventional helicopter design, that wasn't cancelled or a prototype, then the Lynx takes the nr. 1 spot. If we just define it as vaguely helicopter shaped and with cancelled/prototype builds, then there's some truly fast and cool ones.
Scotty:
Who’s gonna fly in those contraptions when I can transport them in a split second.
Even though the Osprey is a VTOL I would agree it's not a Helicopter.
"do not want to travel like us mere mortals" 😂😂 really funny
Nice video but you forget the Lady - Airwolf! - which can exceed Mach1 to 65,000 feet (fact).
the v22 is a hybrid of a heli and an airplane while the other helis on this list is actually a heli
4 spot is the one they choose for Mars.
I would like to call the last one a VTOL aircraft.
Excellent machines. Put to good use and trsting
They should have put the price for each units in video. But great video.
Your audio mix over the Osprey is messed up. The music peaked way too loud, drowning out the voiceover.
So we are not gonna talk about how loud the music got? 😂
Airwolf number 1
You should not forget about the South African manufactured Denel Rooivalk or the Atlas Oryx.
"The Apache was faster than any Russian helicopter." Mil Mi-24, build 2 decades earlier, top speed 230 MPH, fastest helicopter in the world for over a decade: "Huh?"
Yea, they have no clue what they are talking about. Same with stating "thrust equals speed" completely ignoring RBS effects.
The Osprey is not a helicopter, it flies like one but it is a "utility vehicle" in the end.
I've had the pleasure to fly in/on a Puma, Chinook and Lynx. As a boy Chinook's were commonplace in the fields surrounding our home here in Northern Ireland, dropping off Soldiers on patrol.
Must have been a European helicopter?
@@Ukraine2011 - Chinook is an US design, twin rotor. Although the Lynx is British and very fast.
@@Ukraine2011, Boeing Vertol (US) is the primary manufacturer of the Chinook, although they have sold manufacturing rights to Kawasaki Japan and AugustaWestland in Italy. 22 countries currently operate variants of the Chinook.
Lol
@@Ukraine2011 no wonder
Speed for these pilot's is a skill obtained from much perfect practice , roa Aotearoa nui.
You forgot one. The helicopter that flys at mach one. Airwolf.
Mach 1 plus.
Mach 2 actually...I remember one episode where Ernest Borgnine tells Jan-Michael Vincent they're flying at mach 2.2 and the Airwolf will disintegrate if they keep flying so fast...
Nice Looking adventure!
The Chinook is named after a dog, WTF, do a little research? The Chinook is named after the Chinook Indians who lived along the Columbia River, and who were the first people to tell stories of "The Great South Wind" also known as an Atmosphic River or Pineapple Express.
the video never said it was named after a breed of dog, the video literally said "despite having the same name as a breed of dog".
@@antygod The dog breed was named after a single dog that was named after the Chinook first nations. More importantly it should be noted that the Chinook first nations recognized the weather phenomenon known as a atmospheric river long before settlers
@@calholyo and? that doesn't change the fact the video never said the helicopter was named after a dog breed.
Everyone gangsta until they hear Helikopter Helikopter, nothing beats that.
When I was in Basrah Iraq I saw my first Merlin....Man that chopper is huge!
HELIKOPTER HELIKOPTER
Thumbs up to the narration bruv....You could listen to this guy simp about these machines all day
Maaaaaan!!! Can none of them top Airwolf. An helicopter that can go up to Mach 1 when it's rotor system is disengaged? And all that firepower and an helluva weapons system on it? Yes! I know it's make believe. But damn! If the United States could actually build a helicopter wit all that speed, power, and arsenal on it? We'd definitely be the ish!!! 😎😎😎😎😎
We are getting old when we remember Airwolf
Stringfello Hawk could sure fly that bird.🤣🤣
You know I was thinking the exact same thing haha.
Let's stick to reality.
Y'all give him a break! I love AIRWOLF!
V22 and V280 are fixed wing aircraft primarily. Both in helicopter configuration are very slow. Try around 100 kn or just over 100mph.
This low speed is why I'm trying to figure out why the Army want s the V280. It's more so replacing the Chinook than Black Hawk but we just ordered more new model Chinooks.
The speed definitely makes sense, you can't beat more speed, but with a crew it's not pushing it's top speed of +300mph
They should be the potential contenders for medical fields, ensuring swift and secured carrying of patients with critical condition.
Wow! Who's gonna take trains anymore!?
....poor people like me.
In China and Europe everyone, trains speed is 300kph average to go anywhere and trains are definitely more comfortable than helicopters. Only drawback is that you have to go to stations.
Agreed. The Apache looks scary
The Chinook what a Cute Name for Helicopter
THATS ALOT OF FAST CHOPPERS! John P.
Could anyone else hear the narrator during the v-22 osprey entry?? Thought not!
the AW139 is absolutely a military heli
Excellent Helicopter s
The AH-1W Super Cobra can fly at 180 MPH cruise speed and has a max speed off 220 MPH.. That's faster than every attack helicopter here on your list and you never even listed it...
The odds are , that the Chinook was named after a Hot fast wind similar to the Santa Ana
Or The Native Americans bearing the name.
Where's AirWolf ?
yeah
345 mph conventional, Mach 1+ with turbo thrusters
How dare they not put that on the list, hehe 🤣
@@Stikkzz 300kt, yes but...
Mach 2. (Season 3 episode 11 _"Where Have All the Children Gone ?"_ ) ;)
Dom give me turbos
For your information, the Boeing CH-47 Chinook was named after an Indian tribe and not some dog.
WHAT'S WRONG WITH DOGS DUDE? J/K OF COURSE.
For your information, the video never said it was named after a breed of dog.
Best channel
My favorite helicopter was the thumbnail.
The chinook is faster than attaching. The cobra is faster than the Apache. The Apache has not been fast since they added the dome above the rotors, and the computer systems that are wrapped around the sides of the aircraft. Both of those modifications slowed it down tremendously.
Number one is absolutely not a helicopter!! It is a VTOL plane. It has no permanent lifting rotors, no stabilizing rotor and actual wings! Putting it on this list isn't controversial, it's just stupid! You may as well have listed a doberman dog or three draw filing cabinet at number one!!
Excellent beautiful video
I'm not sure a Tiltrotor is a helicopter as in flight it derives it's lift from an aero foil so the Lynx remains the fastest standard (non compound) helicopter
So what is the helo in the thumbnail, that looks sleek and elegant.
16:18 If it looks like a Helicopter, flies like a Helicopter, and lands like a Helicopter, then it probably is a Helicopter.
Amen
Well, I guess a Harrier is a helicopter, then.
About the Apache. Nope. The US needed an attack helo that could (sorta) keep up with the “Chinhook”. It had nothing to do with the speed of Soviet helos.
The V-22 is a rotor craft, which is also the description of a helicopter, talk amongst yourselves
💥😌👌💥 AWESOME...
Airwolf - Hold my beer
The music takes over your vocal when you hit the osprey clip. Just FYI.
Martian Nap of the earth radar.
When they build an actual airwolf then you can talk about fast helicopters
100% - then these facts will be legit.
The chinook I just seen one on flight radar and 50 miles away from me going 207 mph
I was only able to go 184 in a dive in the Apache. Normal speed is only 130 or so. Alpha model was about 3000 pounds lighter and was faster than than the longbow.
5:22 what the f-ck? Lmao that’s the most random comparison
V-22 is convertiplane.
You’re correct but also incorrect, the technical term is that it is a tilt rotor system.
You missed Airwolf! It’s top speed was mach 2 and operating ceiling 80k feet! 😊
Mil Mi-X1-Russia--520km/h; Kamov Ka-92_Russia--430km/h
I am here to ask how the hell does the helicopter in the thumbnail will even work without a back rotor
That's the neat part "it doesn't".
It is/was Aah 'goos 'tah, (Now Leonardo Helicopters) not Augusta as in the town in Georgia!
Airwolf was able to do over Mach-2 back in the early 1980's.....
Pls argue among yourselves in the comment section!.Nice one.Really cheeky😆😆😅👍👍
He was trolling with the music at the end😂
The V-22 is not a helicopter. Tilt-rotor aircraft are certified as Powered-Lift Devices/Aircraft. The definition of a helicopter is an aircraft that develops lift from the application of a rotating wing. The video calls it thrust. But, it is not. It is lift.
Tilt-rotor aircraft do not develop lift from its rotors and engine. They develop thrust. They just need to develop more thrust than its weight for VTOL.
By the way. The FAA agrees with this classification.
