      It's already used by some runners to get extra fires or relics (mostly in the slower categories).

    So if I'm hearing the second one right, the order is:
    (prep) Don't scroll the map
    1. Click on the first node
    2. Go to map (M) immediately
    3. Click the second node (the path you'll continue on) within .25 seconds
    4. ??? (shaky here) Close map and do second node's action
    5. Go to map again, continue first node's action, proceed from second node?

    • @ForgottenArbiter
      @ForgottenArbiter  4 роки тому +9

      Here, of course, M is whatever your map hotkey is set to:
      1. Click on first node
      2. Press M immediately (close map)
      3. Position cursor over second node, with the map closed (this is why we didn't scroll the map, to make this easier)
      4. Press M and click the second node immediately (map can be open for at most .25 seconds since step 1)
      5. Wait for node transition into first node (this wait is very short, less than .25 seconds)
      6. Do whatever you want to at the first node, without opening the map
      7. Press M to go to the second node

    Is two path patched now? I can't seem to open the map while the circle is being drawn...

    • @ForgottenArbiter
      @ForgottenArbiter  2 роки тому

      No, it still works, at least on PC. I think it works on all the other platforms too, but can't check personally.
      Keep in mind you want to open anything *other* than the map while the circle is being drawn, and wait for the circle animation to finish (.25 seconds) before choosing the second node.

      @@ForgottenArbiter Thanks for the reply!
      I did figure it out in the end. Needed to be in fast mode, I'd watched some other speed runners and they'd switch out of fast mode sometimes and I thought this was the glitch they'd use it for.
      Still working on getting consistent.

    • @ForgottenArbiter
      @ForgottenArbiter  2 роки тому

      Ah, right, switching out of fast mode is for node duplication (visiting the same map node twice). It can be done in fast mode as well, but it is frame perfect in fast mode and very easy in slow mode. I'm not sure about the mechanics of the two-path glitch in slow mode, to be honest.

    I think I found something interesting that may be helpful to the Slay the Spire community.
    While attempting the two-path glitch on my Switch to see if it was possible, and I think I got that to work maybe once, I ended up finding something else that occured consistently. Whenever I attempted to choose a different path via controller in the brief moment of opening the map, I was able to select a different node very quickly, but pressing that node too quickly results in only that one being played.
    However, if I pressed it at about the last possible moment, then when I press the map button in the next node, instead of going to the different node, I go to that one AGAIN. Better yet as I found out, you don't even need branching paths for this to work! You only need to press B (or whatever equivalent input is on your device) upon selecting a node, open the map again, and then right before it fully fades to black as it loads the node, select it again. I got some interesting interactions from it.
    Going to rest sites twice (So upgrade twice, 1 rest, 1 upgrade, etc.)
    Being able to have 2 chest rooms without needing branching paths.
    Can have 2 separate ? events, so you can have 2 events or reroll if it is unfavorable. If your first event would give you a curse, you can quickly open the map upon accepting it and it will not be added into your deck as you load the second event. If the ? event is a combat, then you cannot reroll it.
    Create bugs if used before ending a combat. Usually visual bugs, like making the enemy invisible and making everything shiny upon targeting them, but with Lagavulin I gave it a second metallisize, which did not go away after waking it up, so it can actually affect gameplay. (UPDATE: It has crazy combat benefits, skipping the opponents turn, getting your opening hand again, it's literally cheating. Insanity)
    Can reroll/restock shops.
    Sadly, it doesnt look like you can reroll combat encounters, even after beating the enemy, opening the map take you back into the cleared room, so no double reward from combat.
    I'll have to use it more to get more research into the matter, but this doesn't seem to be documented anywhere so I figured this is new information. I'll update the list if I find anything else about this worth noting. Don't know if this helps from a speedrunning standpoint, At least aside from that, this essentially means you can have twice the amount of floors in a run. With double the building potential, this will also just be helpful in making it through higher ascensions, or just make even more broken builds.

      From messing around with activating this glitch in combat I think I have a better understanding of what happens. By opening the map in this glitched state, you can force the game to start yourself a new turn whenever you want, even during the enemy's attack phase. Another note is that regardless if the battle came from a ? event or just an enemy node, opening the map will ALWAYS give that enemy again, no rerolling for a different enemy or ? event once it happens (Same applies to shops and chests found from ? events. Once it is determined that that is what the event is, opening the map will always give you another instance of it.)
      Using it in combat acts like a partial refresh, cleansing you of both debuffs and powers and resets your deck if you exhausted cards, but the enemy will keep any damage and debuffs they acquired prior to opening the map. Any affects that occur at the start of combat will trigger again, so relics like bag of marbles or Lagavulin gaining another stack of metallisize.
      Opening the map while the enemy is attacking can essentially give yourself a free buffer if you time it right so it fades as the enemy deals it's damage, but I have had the game crash sometimes when testing this.
      For practical uses/scenarios besides that, this is kind of like a buggy Vault any class can use at anytime. You can rush down an enemy with the extra turn it gives you or use it to reroll your hand and find block if the enemy is threatening big damage. Innate or bottled cards will always show up on the refresh so deck setups that excel with their opening turn will be absolutely busted as their effectiveness will have essentially doubled. On the other end, slow burner decks that rely on building up powers and scaling will not be very effective with this glitch as using it will remove your powers and make you play them again, so these decks will best use it early to skip a turn or find a better hand before they play their powers.
      Currently I do not know a way to carry this effect over to the first fight of an act or the boss encounters, as they appear to load differently from regular nodes. Theoretically, the only exception would be getting the portal event in act 3 to travel right to the boss, as this does not bring up the map. One time I got the "Proceed" arrow to show up for a brief moment from the previous rest node upon starting a boss, which makes me wonder if you can use that to skip the boss entirely with this glitch, without a smoke bomb no less.
      Overall do not use this glitch if you want any sort of difficulty. The ability to double restsite/shop/chest open plus combat benefits absolutely trivializes any challenge the game will throw at you, so I'd say only use it for fun to see how broken you can make yourself or if you are seriously struggling to beat higher ascensions.

      Interesting, this does seem to be new. Thanks for writing all of this out. It also seems to be frame perfect, so if you can really get it done with some real consistency, that's very impressive. Or I could still be missing something about how it works. Here's a little recording I made to demonstrate the glitch on PC, with the game set to 30 fps: ua-cam.com/video/d15FpHGGRGE/v-deo.html
      As for speedrunning implications, it seems like there would definitely be some uses, especially to "skip turns" in combat, but it is very difficult to pull off, at least as I understand it now. We'll see what people come up with over time.

      @@ForgottenArbiter I wasn't playing on fastmode, so that's why it was so easy for me to do (I did a run where I performed this every single time I could and reached 99 floors counted). If this can be done consistently in fastmode, then I bet some fun things could be done for speedruns.

    • @keyblader1985

      I had actually discovered this on my own several months ago and have been doing it this whole time; I assumed that if I knew about it then everybody else probably did.
      It definitely turns the game into Easy Mode, being able to take two first turns in a row, double events/campfires/merchants/Elites, or just double battles if you want (once you finish one and transition from the map to a second finish screen, you can save, quit, and restart to a second battle). The path glitch was never limited to having to take different options.

    • @ForgottenArbiter
      @ForgottenArbiter  3 роки тому +1

      @Albert Ledbetter we didn't discover this version as speedrunners because we always play on fast mode. On fast mode, the node duplication glitch (what we've been calling it lately) is extremely difficult to pull off, though it is trivial without fast mode. If you know an easy way to perform node duplication in fast mode (not a frame-perfect trick), I'd love to hear.

    Can you help with bite skip on PC?

    • @ForgottenArbiter
      @ForgottenArbiter  4 роки тому +2

      Without a controller, it's very difficult, and I covered it my previous video. With a controller, put the current selection on the option to trade for bites, then mash A (or whatever the confirm button is mapped to for your controller) as quickly as possible until you have entered the next map node. It is easier without fast mode.

    Is it possible to do the two path glitch on controller ?

    • @ForgottenArbiter
      @ForgottenArbiter  2 роки тому +3

      Yes. Many runners do the glitch primarily with controller. The node selection can be tricky, sometimes. You need to remember that the default selected node is either the middle node (odd numbers of nodes) or the node to the right of the middle (even numbers of nodes), then use left and right inputs quickly as needed. There may be additional quirks to watch out for, too, depending on hidden mouse positioning.

      I believe all of these glitches that do not specifically require a controller also work on mobile. It's much harder on mobile though, because you don't have a map keyboard hotkey and need to manually confirm things like rest sites.
