@Baalorlord Just wanted to say thank you for helping to beat the game with Watcher - I have 125 Hours put into Slay the Spire, which most people might not think is much but, i beat the game with the other 3 characters in 1-3 tries and spent maybe 5 hours doing so - but I have spent more than 120 hours trying to beat this game with the watcher and couldnt understand what I was doing wrong but this video was the key - i spent too much time trying to build a small deck and not a balanced one also you showed me that I need to pay more attention to the run itself and build my deck accordingly - immediately after watching this video I beat the game with the watcher on my first try so thank you!
Same! I think it's just that there's so much reliance on getting good card picks after combat. Floor 2 is hard for her, I basically can't beat it if I don't get a few win conditions 🥲
@@jameswilson807 Last year I actually spent months playing Watcher (up to an ascension 20 heart kill) and she did finally click for me. This is my read on the character: she's somewhat of a glass cannon: she puts out huge damage, but can also die really suddenly (due to wrath and lack of blocking options). To get better at it, I really needed to slim down the deck or get more card draw: so that I could enter/exit wrath on any turn or have regular access to my good damage output cards. It felt like this element was more critical than with the other characters. You can't afford to have a deck full of random garbage with Watcher, or to just hope for good RNG when you need to draw the right cards, she really tests your ability to carefully construct a good slim deck with a lot of removals at shops. I hope this was helpful, good luck!
@@torgo_I think that’s my problem. My a20h wins on the other characters are bloated RNG decks (dead branch + shivs for silent) (creative AI + mummy hand defect). Keeping the deck smaller is a struggle for me on these higher ascensions because I feel like I’m mostly grabbing attacks to get through act 1
@bruhskyy ssbu I think they meant they didn't realize it was you gain 12 total instead of just 9 normal (so they just didn't acount for the word additional)
I used to struggle with the Watcher before I realized the power of Flurry of Blows. I love stacking my decks with as many as I can find along with several stance change cards to be able to cycle as many FoBs as possible in a turn. Many people consider Bowling Bash to be the best attack against groups but honestly FoB is awesome against groups because you can spread out the damage.
Well, I'm glad I watched this! Looking for watcher hits or guide I found your 2h30 video as one of the only ones 😅, then this common card one seemed more reasonable in a hurry. Just knowing what sticks was so helpful. Literally went from never making 3rd floor to heartbreak in 2 runs from your advices. I guess I was ignoring "sure values" over powerful combo cards and then never actually getting combos, like "I'll make a retain deck" into never getting any more cards for it 😅. The advice on ignoring less useful cards to avoid bloated deck was also vital! Thanks a lot, playing Watcher is actually fun now 😎
I really enjoyed this video! Really pleasant and insightful without being over-analytical. The joke about Halt made me laugh pretty hard. I'll definitely check more of your slay the spire videos
@@Baalorlord I beat it literally right after watching with a scry build I'm ngl I had no faith, but I tried my hardest and pulled out a victory against the clockwork boss. Your tip of upgrading the card that makes you scry 5 and block for 7 I think really helped me organize my turns thanks again!👍
More of these please! I’ve always wanted a whale body is analysis. Not much out there especially considering the new updates and buffed cards via the updates. Good stuff as always Baalorlord.
Defect is still the best class. It's the easiest to pick up and it's defense is surprisingly good for now high the damage output can be from channel lighting alone.
I’m struggling to beat the heart with Watcher. Any tips? I’m not the best at utilizing scry. It feels like I either add too many attacks or skills when I finally reach the heart. I’ve done it once on mobile but am trying to earn the trophy on PSN.
My tip is to grab Talk To The Hand whenever you can. It’s such a broken card. Really helps negate the heartbeat debuff from heart. I also have had success beating Heart with divinity
@Baalorlord question I have about using and evaluating the power of scry (e.g. at @27:20) In hallway fights especially, I have no idea what the enemy will do next turn when I draw the cards I Scry'd. So I don't know whether I'll need block, or whether wrath+damage to kill the first enemy will be a good idea if it turns out the guy in back with more health is dealing the damage. Scry feels powerful when used, if a bit mind-numbing due to the exponentially growing number of choices and calculations made, but fundamentally different from draw. Perhaps not worth making the comparison unless the deck in question is really all about drawing 1 or 2 specific cards and discarding the rest. In such a case, "Scry 5" = "Draw 5" (!)
For one, you get to cycle past your strikes and defends (by discarding them), so it essentially thins your deck out to the best cards. This alone is powerful, even if you’re not sure what the enemy is doing next turn. But often you can use the scry to also plan lethals.
i got recommended this guy bc he has alot of depth in his explanations and i love that but damn the perma-announcer voice is really grating over time OP I think you’d really do better if you spoke how you do normally (unless this is it in which case I’m sorry ignore everything I said)
What's your favorite Watcher card to take on Floor 1 (even if it's not a common)? Comment below!
I will never not take Blasphemy, even if it's bad.
probably bowling bash which is almost always good short term and long term
Lesson Learned on floor 0/1 is always fun.
Hey @baalorlord, the video description says silent instead of watcher
@@olmilla93 Updated! Thanks for pointing that out.

As someone coming from TCGs into STS and struggling to understand how deck are built in the game, this is SO unbelievably helpful!
i find watcher as the most difficult of all the characters. i suck at her., even tho she's meant to be OP

Love this series! Your insights and analysis are unparalleled in clarity, concision, and coziness. Thanks for the fantastic content!
Awesome, thank you!
Same here live this style!!
upgraded Bowling Bash and Empty Fist are such goated cards - they single handily got me the watcher W
Pressure Points ignores block.
PP CANNOT BE BLOCKED
I beat A20 Watcher and in all that time I never realised Halt said "gain 9 *additional* block"
Guess I should try valuing it more now lol

Glad to see this, Watcher is such a complex character and it's nice to know what's good when
i’m never not taking follow up. it’ll be in the shop before heart and i’m taking it every time.
mistake at 7:55, you probably meant indignation
i noticed that too and was reminded that experts in gaming are not always given to expertise in video narration/creation/editing
''Cut Through Time'' looks similar to ''Preordain'' from the card game ''Magic the Gathering'' and it is a staple there in any format.
Cut Through Fate*
@Bean Burrito You are right, I was confusing it with a MTG card called "Dig Through Time" a year ago
The 'cheese' in my 'fridge' is 'shaped like' my 'mothers head'

Thank you for the primer! I have been avoiding playing the watcher for some reason. Now I am ready to go for it :)
Great video, I've got so many hrs on watcher and only beat it once, but with the intangible event. Want to do it without it very difficult
Glad it helped!

Hey Baalor, did you not make this kind of video for uncommon cards for some reason in particular? I think it would be helpful!

most fun/interesting class? yes. best? watcher by a mile
This us exactly what I needed for watcher! Are you planning to do other rarities at some point, cause I love this!

i need a whole video on scry.
Pressure points on the top 10 of worst cards along with clash
Wait is there no defect version of this?
