In mid-June, it seems like the sun never sets. In fact, in the north of Sweden it doesn’t, and in the south only for an hour or two. This calls for celebration! Friends and family gather for the most typically Swedish tradition of all: Midsummer swedn.me/NightOfMakingSwedishBabies
Hollywood has a remarkable ability to turn wholesome and innocent things into creepy, scary ones. They did it with european trips, nursery rhymes and kids' songs, dolls, holidays and traditions like Halloween and now Midsummer. I've been to one of these Midsummer festivals years before the movie came out and let me tell you it was the most innocent event I've ever been to. I remember watching this video before this movie even had a trailer. And the festival only lasted a few hours I think, certainly not days. Haha...maybe in the old centuries...now its just modern day hippies....somewhat party at "ibiza"or coachella
After the dance around the midsummer pole you hang the sinners
RUSTY but the movie had modern day hippies 😨
Never. You watched a fictional movie
I'm suprised a official country youtube channel is a thing, well done sweden!
Thanks a lot for the feedback! We're glad that you've found us!
@@sweden I live in you
Good to hear!
After 9 years and the UA-cam put this at my recommended 🤨
Love the strawberry cake 🍰 😍
We sure love it!
Now I know what to expect for Ari asters “Midsommar” 😁
Not really, that movie is widely different from reality : p
I’m a Swede and it’s so true about the grandma thing 😂
I'm a native Swede and I have experienced this many times. That little bit about a downpour was pretty funny! Midsummer, like they said, is second in importance right behind Christmas. I've never had the vodka and I think I'll pass on that one. However, the food is delicious!! The dancing is real traditional Swedish and a lot of fun. The biggest and most exciting moment is when they raise the Maypole. BTW, I was raised in the United States but we travel back to Sweden every summer. Unfortunately, we can't do that this year due to COVID19.
Is there any ritual like falling down the cliff to attempt suicide happens? Does community sex is ritual of midsomer festival? Is the festival safe for tourists to attain??
från en svensk till en amerikansk svensk, do your family celebrate any swedish holidays? like christmas on the 24? ok maybe that would be weird but like midsommar or kräftskiva?
@@subhashishbagchi3191 no, that scary crap is just made up from a fictional awful movie. It’s absolutely safe to attend, it’s a harmless festival for families. It’s not like in the movie
(And yes, consensual sex might happen late at night between drunk older people in the mood within their homes)
How fun! The more I learn about Sweden the more I really want to visit.
We don't do human sacrifices anymore?
Have I been doing it wrong all my life?
Ha ha ha! That's right!
En och annan prästdjävel hänger vi nog upp än 😅
@@peterdammeliusosterode3424 Prästblod åt Oden!
wait this isn’t pewdiepies youtube channel
Isn't it?
I am from Sweden and oooomg, you explained it so well! You included alll details. However today (25th June) is midsummer, hurray! But unfortunately I don’t live in Sweden and we can’t go home because we still have school. So idk what to doooee and it’s so annoying because I love midsummer and now we won’t really do anything to celebrate it, except for eating strawberries. So that’s sad. :(
You can still drink and sing, boil potatoes and eggs, hop around like frogs...
what an interesting country!
Indeed
So........ no killing
Mohammad Alawady Killer dance moves!
well... not anymore (see 1:42 )
Never been any killing, it’s just in that awful movie
Hope one day I get the chance to visit Sweden, I really love Sweden and the traditional folk songs😭😭😭😭
Fingers crossed!
Anyone's here after midsommar movie
We suspect that a fair few people found their way to this video after watching the horror version of Midsommar!
Watching from Zambia. Interesting

Oh yes *i really* needed to know about my own countries second biggest holiday! Thank you youtube!
You're welcome! 😉
@@sweden wait. Sweden replied to my comment, i can now die in peace.
Can't wait to go there to maliciously smirk while i'm wearing a flower costume 😩‼️
Bring it on!
Midsummer is the only time you'll ever witness an empty IKEA.
Because it's....closed?
You just gotta find a way in, @@sweden.
Then IKEA is always open for you. And if your sneaky enough, it's a free 2-day 5 star hotel!
(It could be five days if you are super sneaky, but no one escapes the Swede police. *No one.* )
(also I'm joking @@sweden please don't hurt me ;^;)
And now there's a wonderful horror movie about this holiday hahaha, ALSO MY BIRTHDAY IS JUNE 24TH (MIDSUMMER DAY)
What a great birthdate!

In Latvia, Christmas is second only to midsummer or Jāņi (John’s Day).
That’s correct!
