Midsommar and rain is a tradition, people look for the weather info and hope for a good midsommar weather! Rhubarb beer is a interesting choice, I tried a grapefruit beer that started out nice but got a little too much towards the end of the can!
Yep! Not going according to plan is just part of the festivities. It should be sunny outside during the morning so you plan to be outside for the day, and then it should rain so you have to rush everything inside
this video randomly appeared in my watch page and honestly, how do you not have more subscribers? I loved your storytelling and your editing style - I've tried to make my videos more like this but it never quite comes out right! New subscriber here :) I spent three weeks travelling around Scandinavia this year, and did the same last year, and I'm completely obsessed with it. I absolutely agree with the feeling of being at home and being yourself in Sweden, because that's exactly how I felt. Its such an amazing country
Wow what a lovely thing to say, thank you 🥹 I'm glad you liked it and that's SO cool you did so much traveling around the area :) Next time I'll have to ask for suggestions!
Nooo midsummer is not ruind because of rain. Rain is a part of midsummer party :D FOR REAL! It is a common joke that there is always rain on midsummer's day. One year it was even colder on midsummers day than on christmas day :D
Very very similar than in Finland! We have also those poles especially in Swedish talking areas. But I think you can guess what is the most important thing for us Finns in midsummer festival? Yes it is Sauna!!

Another is coming soon, but not in Stockholm :D Yes I'll be back in Sweden one day soon, there's a few adventures I'm itching to do ;) Btw, there's a vlog I recently filmed that you're going to love... but you'll need snacks!
Awesome that you got to experience Midsommar in Sweden Natasha!🇸🇪🌼✌️ But celebrating Midsommar in Stockholm is like almost prohibited ;D It's kind of seeing the real Midsommar-festivities through an aquarium with plastic-fishes 😋 Only day everyone leaves Sthlm as you mentioned. Anyhow we sincerely apologize for the gruesome rain ... 😖 And the missing out on the awesome/fun dancing around the midsommarstång 🌱🕺 You looked great in your Midsommarkrans nevertheless 😇🍀🌼🪻🌺 - I think the rain was a sign for you coming back and get the full experience someday! 🙌 (Midsommar in Leksand) 🫶
Love it! Yes 100% agree, next time I'll do it more like Swedes so I can also taste the glory of Midsommar food 🤤 I've been recommended the islands and Dalarna for next time, what's your take? 😁
As a "dalmas" on my father's side, born in Göteborg, and raised in Stockholm, (good mix?) I second the claim that Leksand is a good place to experience a swedish midsummer. The spectacle of erecting the large maypole in "The Pit", a naturally caused depression, is a "tourist-must-see", if in the area one that day. If it is a sunny day, dancing around the maypole with thousands of other people... a fun experience to do at least once in a lifetime. However, if you illicit the help of locals to ferret out dates, you can see maypoles raised several times. This as the different small villages in the Lake Siljan area, usually raise theirs on different days, eventhough some villages are less than a 10 minute drive apart. So one day you can see a maypole being erected in one small village, and then the next day see another erected in a neighboring village. There are a hundred villages to visit. Just saying. The experience of driving, carefully, through all these small villages on a sunny sommers day, is also something in itself. Soo many beautiful places to see around the Lake Siljan. But let's not speak too loudly about it. 🙂
You are amazing person Natasha and all your videos are truly wonderful ❤️ I also have a dog and exactly know what you feel 🥹 sending much love to you and sweet Bella 💕
Too bad with the rain Natasha! Was great in Hjo where I was. I really understand Sthlm was empty, all who can escape the cities. Dalarna has indeed the most spectacular celebration. About Finland, I guess sauna is the most important at all holidays😅
What a shame about the maypole dancing! but so fun to see the traditional midsommar performance - I missed that this year and will look out for it in Gothenburg next year! 🇸🇪
next time you have to try to find one or someone who offers or serves midsummer food. pickled herring with fresh potato sour cream. some grilled meat, schnapps, beer, egg halves, meatballs and much more. like a small Christmas table.
I plan on visiting for midsummer this year and it will be my first time leaving Canada ☺️ I’m traveling solo so I am a little nervous navigating and I’m a little worried about not getting to get out to the countryside and missing something special also lol but I’m sure it would still be a great experience in Stockholm
That’s really exciting! Congrats on making a huge step in leaving our massive country in the first place 🙌 I’m sure you’ll be able to make it out to the countryside 😊 best to book in advance, that’s where we went wrong. I hope you enjoy!
@@NatashaBergen ahh thank you! 🥹 I’m showing up on Wednesday to give myself a little time and my half plan right now is to rent a vehicle, buy a one man tent and possibly find good camp grounds with some accommodations in between 🤞
I am a bit chocked that they cancelled the dance because they had rained, I mean it almost always rain during part of the midsummer celebration. Cancelling for anything than a hard an ongoing rain is a complete failure by the organising team and they should be replaced. If you want to see real midsummer celebration go for Dalarna (prefarably somwhere around Lake Siljan, the heartland of the celebration) we have one in every village. Maybe avoid the main one in Leksand that is a bit touristy.
Hello and thanks for a nice clip. First, I just want to give n a little correction of a word. You English speakers say "The fika" while the correct meaning is "to take, or have, a fika". Fika is an abbreviation of "a fika moment" which originally comes from organizing and together, taking a coffee break. But the word comes from having fun with twisting and turning the letters on the word "coffee". Ka-ffe became feka. And in Stockholm slang it became fika. Midsummer is not a festival, but a celebration practiced since long before the 1000 dc. You are absolutely right that it looks like a penis being lowered into the ground. It is a symbol of the fertility god Frey's penis fertilizing mother earth. This is, so that we can harvest again next year. And you talking bout magic feeling when the music and dancing started. That's right too, because his sister. the female fertility god, the goddess Freya, who is also the queen of the fairies unleashed them and their erotic power so that the people would perform the ceremonies correctly. The wreath you tied and have around your hair is made of birch leaves, which itself is a symbol of a rising sap and thereby Frey. If you then tied it during midsummer, you could preserve the magic and power throughout the year. So many of the midsummer wreaths were then hung dried on the wall or around the eaves. When you are standing at 5.31 talking about the midsummer dance, you have a house behind you with a gable roof. I just want to point out that it is one of the oldest houses on Skansen that has been moved there. This house was built in 1477-1478. They are real historic houses and Skansen is the world's oldest outdoor museum. Of course you're right that it's folk costumes from different parts of Sweden, but it's Skansen's folk dance team that dances. The path and the view on Södermalm is called the Montelius-path The people educator Ante
