  • This video gives an overview of how to heat a bedroom above 120 to 200 degrees Fahrenheit in order to kill bed bugs and their eggs which die when exposed to 118 to 125 deg F for more than 30 minutes to a couple hours.
    Need the following:
1- Kerosene Heaters - (Mr. Heater Contractor Series 80,000 BTU)
    2 - Kerosene Fuel - 2.5 gallon of K-1 Heater Fuel (Kerosene)
3 - Funnel - (Makes it easy to fill heater fuel tank)
4 - Extension cords for Kerosene Heaters (The initial pilot and blower on heaters requires electricity to fire up and blow heat into room)
    5 - Laser Infrared Thermometer
After heat treatment for minor infestations is complete may want to also consider:
1 - HAAGEEP Bed Frame (Order via Amazon comes in twin, full, queen sizes) No Box Spring Needed. Can put mattress directly on these bed frames and then place legs of bed frame in coffee filters or cups filled with Diatomaceous Earth Powder (or Bed Bug Dust)
2 - Harris or Hot Shot Bed Bug Killer Dust (Diatomaceous Powder) - powder dries up the endoskeleton of the insect causing it to die - powder is harmless to humans.
3 - Place bed at lease 3 inches from walls - so bed bugs cannot get to bed via wall, force them to climb up bed frame legs that are inserted in the cups filled with bed bug dust.
4 - Place clothes and sheets in dryer. Dryer on high heat is best way to kill bugs in clothing and bed sheets. Forget the washer, go directly to the dryer. Bed bugs can survive a washer, they cannot survive a hot dryer.
Have to place heaters outside room (so they do not shut off due to safety switch which shuts the heater off) and point the barrel of the heater through a window or cracked door (preferably small opening to keep hot air from escaping room)) to heat up room. Use laser thermometer to read the temp of room, floor, walls, ceiling, furniture, etc. See video for more details.
Also remove anything made of plastic (appliances, electronics, shampoo bottles, tvs, blinds, candles, etc.) that can warp or melt from room before beginning heat treatment.

Bed bugs do not tend to be one room. They tend to be in your WALLS. Crossfire is the best treatment if bedbugs keep coming back after heat treatment.

I am not an expert, but they probably hiding deep inside the mattress, even if adults get killed, the eggs may survive, I would throw out that mattress.

Yes, I threw the bed away after heating room first because I did not want to drag bed out with live bed bugs, but just to be safe I threw mattress out too after heating room. Problem solved.
