As someone who grew up in friesland, I actually really like you turning it winter themed! Not just because of the name, but also because the province has a really strong cultural tie to ice scating! The Elf-steden tocht, big race across the canals through 11 cities in the area is a huge cultural event whenever we get a winter deep enough to enable it! I would probably add some reference to it, or add frozen rivers instead of roads that you need ice skates or a skating pokemon to quickly cross!
The medieval Friesians were also seen as the Vikings of the Lowlands, having many similarities to those in the nordics, it would also add to the lore of the Friesian part of the region.

I heard that they were seen by the Faroese as THE sea raiders instead of the Vikings, but in mainland Europe during the Viking Age it were the Frisians who got plundered by the Vikings and even were ruled by Viking overlords for a while until Frisian/Saxon nobles assassinated them and the Gerulfings got into power which is basically the start of what we now call Holland (the province not the whole country of the Netherlands).
I would love this to be the next region!!! Turning 3 countries into one region being based on BeNeLux is a great idea, and you took inspiration from a lot of different things and I love the attention to detail. This would be so hype!!!

There are also outside game hints We got the Gamefreak/Pokemon Company/Van Gogh museum collaboration. Masuda and Gamefreak staff have visited Netherlands (Which they always do to get inspiration for their upcoming games) There is a Pikachu around the World Plushie set, which features a Pikachu in old Dutch attire (Including clog and Tulip). his is alongside a NY (Unova), Japanese (Gen 1-4) and UK (Galar) plushie, but also alongside a Chinese one. So based on this set, Netherlands and Chinese Pokemon regions are 100% in the works.

The other 2 still need to come, with a Chinese Pikachu and a Dutch Pikachu (Old Dutch attire, including a tulip and a clogs) Then we had the Pokemon Company/Van Gogh museum collaboration (And knowing Gamefreak/Pokemon Companies track record, if they wanna feature a country as a region, they are doing collaborations in that country and they are going to visit that country as well).
Hey I am playing a Pokémon Tabletop game with friends one day a month. I just wanna say that this is very inspiriring as I am making my own region based on the Netherlands aswell! YOu did soo much good work! Ga zo door!!!!
as a Dutch, i'm glad to see another highly detailed take on a region based (or in this case, partly based) on my home country I also have been working on one for a looong time (the map should be finished soon, as I actually commissioned mine) and mine is based on The Netherlands *only* (for those who say the country is too small, we have more landmass than Hawaii) and to add divercity to the region, I would bring back the Unova seasonal mechanic
Oh the netherlands can 100% stand on its own as a region! I just really wanted to include my home country, the southern netherlands I mean Belgium in it too, because the Benelux is such a diverse yet connected region in real life!
The Red Light district should have Pokemon Daycares with Pokemon already in them that have the ability to give your potential offspring good egg moves.
As a dutchie, this is amazing to see :) So much attention to detail, would love to have pokemon make this into a real game someday with the potential it has.

i got a couplt of things to say, first of all, i genuinly think this is the best fan region map ive seen, and ive seen alot. i just love how its openworld but still has a clear route to go. youve also inspired me to start my own region, ive always had ideas but never put them to paper. amd third of al.. bread bridge... i wonder if i heard that somewhere else lol... bad boys... subsandwich.. (istg if the bread bridge is ment to be a refrence to something else and not what i think it is imma be so upset lol) oh yeah i love how you added diving back because i wanted to do the same lol, i actually have an idea of there being mulitble stages of diving, you have surfing, diving, deep diving and then maybe something even deeper only able to go down with a legendary or a mega or something

Can't even express how the algoritm blessed me with this video! Amazing map art and idea for a region. I'm a part of a project making a fangame region named Varmia, based on Poland. Maybe we aren't experienced at all with game dev, but we have some stuff already. Your video inspired my to give an idea for my teamates to maybe design entire region with culture and towns first. Hope it works great for us. Your region map makes my want to explore it right now! Actually I compared it to Paldea and yours is really large, but has a lot points of interest as well. As a French-speaking Belgian (walloon from Charleroi) living in Groningen, I'm feeling a bit underrepresented, but there is already a lot so it makes sense! 😅😂 I love the use of the Smurfs and the theme of flowers, which is a big thing both in the Netherlands and Belgium!!
Yeah I'm sorry! Originally I just had it be based on the netherlands alone, but eventually I had a lot of flemish stuff sneak in too, and eventually I decided to just pivot to the entire Benelux. Which is why wallonia and Luxembourg are a bit underrepresented.
As a person from lotussloot myself i really think the flower lotus is fitting for the name. I think skiddo and gogoat would be a perfect pokemon hinting too the old name of the village "geythorn" (translation: goathorn). The picture you used for maastricht was also from this village. I really liked the video and i think you made a great region with good references to the Benelux.
This is truly amazing work, while I am currently only half way through making a train station somewhere would be great (perhaps in Utrecht, as its the train hub). Why a train? Well Kalos had a train that goes nowhere till now… :D
my home is the quarry area and i mean the hilly landscape is accurate but irl its quite forrested in the northeast so having a strange forrest in that northeastern part would both be cool and accurate

Ik moet zeggen dat het een zeer leuke kaart is. Ik zou alleen wel de haven van Rotterdam op de kaart zetten als grootste van Europa. Dat de efteling niet echt op de geografische juiste plek staat is denk ik niet een groot probleem, maar het viel me wel op. De duinen zijn ook te vinden aan de gehele westzijde van Nederland en niet alleen in België. Ik vind het een leuk idee dat de carribische eilanden er ook bij zitten, een speler zou hier met het schip vanuit een haven naartoe kunnen komen. Als dit een echt pokemon spel was, dan zou ik hem zo spelen. Dit zeg ik als iemand die geen officiële pokemon spel meer heeft gespeeld sinds generatie 6.
Quite the fun project. I haven't watched the full video or your previous ones yet but I noticed the empty space(or simple paths) between Amsterdam, Rotterdam and The Hague. Is there a reason you did not include the green heart as it seems perfect for a route/region/seperation. It's very nature oriented with varied terrain and holds a very important place in dutch planning (only second to the randstad). It's also very interesting for conflict between nature and development(both cities as wel as farmers). You could separate it from route 1 through underlying it's nature aspect whilst r1 would be more farmer/polder focused or by making r1 based on estuaria/schor with dunes(also read my last paragraph) which would be in theme with your location and could make for a very interesting r1 with reasons to return for later exploration. Also if you wanna get "political" in your pokemon region, don't forget to add multiculturalism/ the effects of migration into the region. Of course not in a negative "evil" "outsider" way but in a representative/ interesting aspect kind of way. For example with the Turkish quarter in Rotterdam or indo's in the hague. Maybe it's a better idea to moredirectly base your desert on the combination of dunes and some made-up form of heath(heide)(also works with a naturally infertile acidic ground) specialised on desert environment. with small hills and sandy pieces. It's also the correct location for it. Also the last and possibly largest crime you are committing in your region is forgetting tides and estuaria in your holland region. It is heinous to depict sealand without the estuaria function and without schorren. The periodic flooding that comes with this(like implemented in rse) would fit very well with a water theme and would make the exploration/item finding more interesting. It would also make it a place to return multiple times to as the water(or lack of it) would give greater biodiversity( so different pokemon at diffrerent states and different exploration oppertunities. This would also be an important mechanic for the wadden as that is what makes them so interesting.
Well the reason I didn't include most of these ideas is frankly because I hadn't thought about it or knew about it yet! But I really like some of your ideas! The greenheart is kind of a thing in the form of groenfield. Multiculturalism is going to be a pretty important factor in the story as far as I've planned for now. And the tides do play a factor in the waddensea! But I kind of don't know how that could work in an openworld pokemon game lol! Though I do like your ideas for tides!
Thank you very much! Inspire yourself with the real life nation/region you want to base yours on! Think about its culture, its landmarks, its people, its cities, etc. And don't be afraid to change things from your inspiration or make it more fantastical!
Dutch Caribbean included? Hell yeh! Greetings from a Sint Maartener! I will say, you could’ve tied this region to Kalos via Sint Maarten/Saint Martin, just as the Netherlands (Kingdom) shares its only land border with France on my home island.

Grandpa Shrum incoming.... Also... if you are going Shrum with the Smurfs reference... we need to get Garcamel and Azrael somewhere in there too, you know, else it wouldn't feel complete. This was amazing to watch. Finally, a map for the region. I would personally have combined Rotterdam/Amsterdam in one major city, with the inner circle being a reference to Amsterdam (Old-style housing), with the outer ring being a reference to Rotterdam, with the modern architecture, but thats just personal preference. I would probably look at the name Pollenplas also, because if you translate Plas into English, it translates it to pee.
if they ever give us a pokémon region based on the netherlands or the benelux but don't start translating the games into dutch then, i might actually crash out
Yeah they definitelly have to do that! So far we've only gotten regions where they speak already translated languages, if this trend keeps up we'll be getting a german, italian, korean and chinese region
Generally favorable because they're allied and an important hub of trading between the other regions. Perhaps they're even the center of some EU like economic union

Oh yeah! Wiltheim has a frozen river in it! I didn't know about the 11 steden tocht, but I'll definitely keep it in mind!

This is truly amazing work, while I am currently only half way through making a train station somewhere would be great (perhaps in Utrecht, as its the train hub). Why a train? Well Kalos had a train that goes nowhere till now… :D
my home is the quarry area and i mean the hilly landscape is accurate but irl its quite forrested in the northeast so having a strange forrest in that northeastern part would both be cool and accurate

Ik moet zeggen dat het een zeer leuke kaart is. Ik zou alleen wel de haven van Rotterdam op de kaart zetten als grootste van Europa. Dat de efteling niet echt op de geografische juiste plek staat is denk ik niet een groot probleem, maar het viel me wel op. De duinen zijn ook te vinden aan de gehele westzijde van Nederland en niet alleen in België.
Ik vind het een leuk idee dat de carribische eilanden er ook bij zitten, een speler zou hier met het schip vanuit een haven naartoe kunnen komen. Als dit een echt pokemon spel was, dan zou ik hem zo spelen. Dit zeg ik als iemand die geen officiële pokemon spel meer heeft gespeeld sinds generatie 6.

Quite the fun project. I haven't watched the full video or your previous ones yet but I noticed the empty space(or simple paths) between Amsterdam, Rotterdam and The Hague. Is there a reason you did not include the green heart as it seems perfect for a route/region/seperation.
It's very nature oriented with varied terrain and holds a very important place in dutch planning (only second to the randstad). It's also very interesting for conflict between nature and development(both cities as wel as farmers). You could separate it from route 1 through underlying it's nature aspect whilst r1 would be more farmer/polder focused or by making r1 based on estuaria/schor with dunes(also read my last paragraph) which would be in theme with your location and could make for a very interesting r1 with reasons to return for later exploration.
Also if you wanna get "political" in your pokemon region, don't forget to add multiculturalism/ the effects of migration into the region. Of course not in a negative "evil" "outsider" way but in a representative/ interesting aspect kind of way. For example with the Turkish quarter in Rotterdam or indo's in the hague.
Maybe it's a better idea to moredirectly base your desert on the combination of dunes and some made-up form of heath(heide)(also works with a naturally infertile acidic ground) specialised on desert environment. with small hills and sandy pieces. It's also the correct location for it.
Also the last and possibly largest crime you are committing in your region is forgetting tides and estuaria in your holland region. It is heinous to depict sealand without the estuaria function and without schorren. The periodic flooding that comes with this(like implemented in rse) would fit very well with a water theme and would make the exploration/item finding more interesting. It would also make it a place to return multiple times to as the water(or lack of it) would give greater biodiversity( so different pokemon at diffrerent states and different exploration oppertunities. This would also be an important mechanic for the wadden as that is what makes them so interesting.
Well the reason I didn't include most of these ideas is frankly because I hadn't thought about it or knew about it yet! But I really like some of your ideas! The greenheart is kind of a thing in the form of groenfield.
Multiculturalism is going to be a pretty important factor in the story as far as I've planned for now.
And the tides do play a factor in the waddensea! But I kind of don't know how that could work in an openworld pokemon game lol! Though I do like your ideas for tides!

Inspire yourself with the real life nation/region you want to base yours on! Think about its culture, its landmarks, its people, its cities, etc. And don't be afraid to change things from your inspiration or make it more fantastical!

I would personally have combined Rotterdam/Amsterdam in one major city, with the inner circle being a reference to Amsterdam (Old-style housing), with the outer ring being a reference to Rotterdam, with the modern architecture, but thats just personal preference.
I would probably look at the name Pollenplas also, because if you translate Plas into English, it translates it to pee.

Yeah they definitelly have to do that! So far we've only gotten regions where they speak already translated languages, if this trend keeps up we'll be getting a german, italian, korean and chinese region
What are the regions relations to Kalos, Galar and Paldea (and of course the Holy Roman Empire)?
Now that I think about it, I could've just have asked about what they think of the Habsburg family (and other German monarchs) and Napoléon.
Generally favorable because they're allied and an important hub of trading between the other regions. Perhaps they're even the center of some EU like economic union

There are a couple hunebedden in the region, as well as other minor ruins. I just didn't mention them for time reasons sadly

Inspire yourself off frisian culture, history, animals,etc! That way you can think off some fitting pokemon or region attributes!
