    This means both the pokemon timeline and the ace attorney timeline can be mapped out by one date, that's kind of crazy, and both also occur near to the Meiji Restoration in their games that take place in the past.

      Idk I'm never a fan of a character appearing in the actual game but then being 'non cannon' based on a technicality lol if I'm playing the game and I'm immersed in it, and a character shows up but doesn't talk to me, its still them being literally right there, in the game lol that just will always be stronger to me than it technically being an Easter egg. It's not like it's a character that can only be explained as an Easter egg like someone from a completely different franchise or something.

    I never bought the mega and non mega timeline. Kind off, I think the Switch games and XY exist in the classic timeline while the Hoenn remakes and the gen 7 games occur in a different timeline, after all megas have a different origin in ORAS compared to XY, in which megas are explicitly restricted to Kalos and the fairy type is a new thing (neither of which is true in ORAS or the gen 7 games).
    Also, keep in mind, Zinnia has absolutely no basis to claim there are multiple timelines, and is discredited inmediatly by actually qualified people. I think the games work well without the need for the split anyway, the contradictions only really appear in ORAS and Let's Go, anyway.

      @Ditidos 17 днів тому +7

      @@SandHater-t4m I don't think characters who only appear in the battle tower equivalent need an explanation, personally. After all, that would bring a lot of timeline problems with the PWT in B2W2. And some plot holes too (Giovanni is there rather than in prison/dead, as a quick example).
      I put the gen 7 games on the alternate timeline due to a mix of ORAS megas existing and access to megaevolution in general. But technically, by the time SM happen, the fairies wouldn't be a new type and the megas could be dismiss as post-game content that isn't supposed to be taken as cannon and is there for fun, like battle tower appearances.

    • @komarunaegi7460
      @komarunaegi7460 16 днів тому +13

      @@Ditidos Why would Giovanni be in prison or dead? Him being in the PWT has no plot relevance so it doesn’t need a reason for his appearance there, but it’s easy to come up with something plausible.
      He never ended his own life in Tohjo Falls in HGSS; that was just a fan theory confusing the sound of radio static with splashing water. He just ran off and went back into seclusion.
      From there we can assume he just decided to stay true to his original goal of dedicating his life to training like he promised in Gen 1, and that leads to him testing his skills in the PWT.
      In Unova, only the Game Freak NPCs know of Team Rocket. Everyone else, including those in the PWT, treat Giovanni as a man of mystery. His title is the “self-proclaimed strongest Trainer.” So he’s there anonymously, outside of his name.
      From there you can headcanon that the other Kanto Gym Leaders, Red, and Blue are keeping a watchful eye on him and letting him participate.
      The scrapped leaks of the original draft for the Rainbow Rocket storyline actually go along with this. In that draft, our universe’s Giovanni makes an appearance, helps out, and when he’s asked what his goals are now, he says he’s been aiming to “become a Trainer his son can be proud of.”
      Ofc, since this was scrapped, what we got instead was alternate universe Giovanni running amok-but those drafts still show our Giovanni went on the straight and narrow.
      They can obv retcon this at anytime, but at the time, this was the mindset they had when writing Giovanni.

      @Okeana_Aster 16 днів тому +11

      The "qualified people" are narrow-minded, and their solution hurt many Pokémon (the Life Force they were about to use was drained from Pokémon, which is terribly painful for them), and it would have hurt so many more people if it succeeded.
      Zinnia's the one to intervene and offer a more ideal solution. So basically of course these narrow-minded people would consider the possibilities of alternate timelines impossible. But they exist, the Rainbow Rocket storyline proves it.
      And Zinnia has the ancient knowledge of her people to back her up. Also Rayquaza's Mega Evolution is an exception compared to all other Mega Evolutions. Rayquaza's Mega Evolution happened separately and a bit differently than how most Mega Evolutions happened, but they still happened in the same timeline.

    • @Ditidos
      @Ditidos 16 днів тому

      @@Okeana_Aster I have yet to fail any backing of Zinnia's theory within ORAS to be correct. Heck, it shows she doesn't even understand how the Link Cable works as it doesn't change dimensions or anything, just teleport to a random spot within the same universe. While as we see thanks to ultraspace later this could have resulted in the meteor destroying a civilization, assuming the universe is similar to our own (which everything in the Pokémon world points towards to), then it appearing anywhere other than functionally empty interstellar space would have been so small as to be an absurd posibility, that not only appears in a star system but in trayectory towards an inhabited planet is so unlikely as to be impossible.
      Not harming innocent Pokémon is reason enough not to use it, specially if you know of Rayquaza (albeit I don't remember that part, but if true, this gives a reason to the player to follows Zinnia's plan despite her other absurd suggestion, making it seem more intentional that we shouldn't take what Zinnia says too literal when it comes to science and technology).
      It has been a while since I played ORAS, unlike XY, so I might be wrong on this, but I understood that the old meteor Rayquaza destroyed is where mega stones came from, not the firing of the ultimate weapon back in Kalos and that Rayquaza was capable of megaevolution even before that.

    Just to add I think that ORAS take place before the games they are remakes of (RSE) but that is mostly because of Deoxys because you travel to space to fight Deoxys in ORAS but the distribution event, which admittedly makes this idea a little sketchy, were you go to birth island to find Deoxys means he has already crashed to earth.

    This was fascinating, I’ve wondered about the Pokemon timeline myself for years, and I think you’ve got it pretty close! Genuinely didn’t know any of that stuff about kadabra or drowsee in the beginning, or that Red and Blue were canonically meant to take place in their release year, love to see those kinds of facts/ research!
    There are a couple of tidbits I remembered that could also affect the timeline.
    1) If you attend Raifort’s history class in Scarlet/Violet, on the whiteboard you can see the early Pokeballs from Legends Arceus and other stuff from Arceus, suggesting it and S/V take place on the same timeline (the existence of Hisuian Growlithe and Bloodmoon Ursaluna in the DLC likely support this).
    2) The character of Looker appears in Platinum, X/Y, ORAS and Sun/Moon (maybe also Gen 5 but I can’t remember), and he seems to have a kind of ongoing story throughout those games, losing his memory in ORAS, which I I think he was still dealing with in Sun/Moon. I always thought Looker was maybe a sign that all these games shared a timeline.
    3) Mega evolution also appears in Gen 7, maybe suggesting it also sits on the Mega Evolution timeline. Because of Looker, I wonder if this means Platinum also exists on that timeline, maybe a different timeline to D/P considering their story differences.
    4) Just a fun mention, but Zinnia bringing up the possibly of the meteor going to another timeline, and the similarity between Rayquaza taking on the meteor/deoxys in the Delta Episode and the same story beats happening in Mystery Dungeon Rescue Tesm Red/Blue/DX has always made me wonder if Mystery Dungeon is the unlucky timeline Zinnia talks about
    Great job on the video, hope to see more!

    It should be mentioned that you can get a bit more specific with SwSh’s placement. There’s an NPC in Motostoke that mentions how TMs that break are considered “vintage” which means 20-99 years old officially. Since the last use of breakable TMs we have is Platinum in ‘99, we can say SwSh happen in 2019 minimum

    If I'm allowed to poke a hole in your suggestions to what years the games take place in, there's the Member Card item in Platinum and BDSP which does contradict Gen 4 taking place in 1999. The description for the Member Card reads, "A card needed for entering the inn in Canalave City. Oddly, the last date marked on it was 50 years ago", and the date on the Member Card is the 1st of December 1958. This indicates that Platinum and BDSP (and most likely by extension the original Diamond/Pearl) take place in the year 2008 rather than 1999. This would however also contradict the Pokédex Book, given that if DPPt/BDSP and therefore GSC/HGSS take place in 2008, then RGBY/FRLG and RSE/ORAS would take place in 2005 and not 1996. That is of course unless we believe in alternative universes, where the original Gen 1 RBGY and Gen 2 GSC could take place in 1996 and 1999 respectively, and then the remake FRLG in Gen 3 and HGSS in Gen 4 could take place in 2005 and 2008 respectively

    About alternative timelines, if I remember correctly, there's a random NPC in Black and White that wants a Pokémon from another version of the world (the other version of the game you currently play), meaning that different universes, and therefore different timelines were a thing since at least Gen 5...

  • @Luigifan305
    @Luigifan305 16 днів тому +1

    Technically, on top of just the main 2 timelines (mega and non-mega) there would be separate timelines for every unique combination of game, protagonist, and starter choice (since it affects your rival's team). Not every little thing would create a new branch though, since stuff like the clothes you wear or the team you build are arbitrary and can be changed at any time. There's also plenty of branches that would occur earlier than expected, such as the branch that determines Scarlet vs. Violet would actually happen way back when the academy was first founded as either Naranja or Uva instead of anything that happens around the time the game itself takes place.
    But the weirdest alternate timeline would have to be Moon & Ultra Moon, since those games literally take place in a world where AM and PM are swapped somehow, meaning there's no way that they're in the same timeline as any other games, but it also means that there could be reverse-time counterparts of all the other games that happen offscreen without ever being playable. It really makes you wonder what in the world could have happened in that reality that resulted in AM and PM swapping lol.

    I'm pretty sure battle tree/PWT appearances - outside of red and blue for the battle tree - are not meant to be taken as canon (Tate & Liza should be adults during the PWT for example). Their designs are only meant to be taken as canon if they appear outside of those battle modes. Like Sabrina, Lenora, and Brycen for PWT.
    However, if you DID want to find an excuse for Wally, specifically, keep in mind he was constantly frail and sickly for much of his puberty and growth spurts. Long term illness at those ages can often stunt your growth and development. It can even cause reproductive problems in guys like cryptorchidism (a disorder in which one or both of your testicles don't develop properly - they either don't drop at all or they only drop partially causing this weird "inbetween" state that screws with your hormones). So for Wally specifically - you could hand wave it away with something like that. Though it doesn't excuse the other timeline errors of those modes.

    Funny you mention the iceberg analogy, because the easter egg in Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire that added serebii's Pokearth map to the main games has the unintended consequence of (potentially) canonizing the events of the Ranger and Colosseum series games since all of their locations are depicted on that map.
    It might sound like utter nonsense, but in a strange twist, a lot of lore bits in those titles actually clarify some events/lore in the 'mainline' games... like how the Snag tech and the Level Release decoration for the Secret Base might be the groundwork for the Expansion Suit's functionality in X/Y - or that the tech the Ranger games feature are hyper-focused elements of the pokeball.

    I never really bought that there are some specific and distinct differing timelines in the series. I essentially view the delta episode lore as refering to the fact that different versions (as in game versions) technically can’t coexist in a shared timeline (specifically refering to gen3 Hoenn and gen6 Hoenn, but with wider implications.) I never thought that game freak actually sought to establish some new seperate sequence of games that follow on from each other. I just think of it as one timeline were the events of each game roughly happens in the sequence you laid out in the video. In my opinion Let’s Go fits with this. It happens years later than gen 1, but the events of those games still roughly happened just not exactly (and which events actually happened varies and tends to be left unclear).
    I also quite like the idea that each game is a specific ”timeline” of it’s own. Isn’t there a feature in gen5 where you essentially visit another players world? I seem to remember your character passing through a barrier and everything. Thinking about it I suppose that’s similar to the gen9 multiplayer too…

    I would argue that P:LA takes place in the early 1900s since that's when molecules were discovered, and the dex entry for Vaporeon mentions water molecules.

      My dad's family originates from Hokkaidō, and he grew up there until later ending up in Kantō later on. As a little kid I'd spend part of the summer and sometimes Christmas time at his parents in Date, so I know a decent bit about the history, with my dad knowing more.
      The Galaxy Team HQ in Pokémon Legends Arceus is the former Hokkaidō Government Office in Sapporo. The first building was built in 1873, and was then one of the largest buildings in Japan & was destroyed by fire in 1879. After the abolition of the Kaitakushi in 1882, Hokkaidō was divided into a number of prefectures, and later the Hokkaidō Government was established in 1886. The destroyed building was restored, and the new government office building was inaugurated in 1888, with red bricks and the octagonal dome on top of the building as the first governor, Michitoshi Iwamura, had suggested.
      In 1896, air vents and the octagonal dome on the top were taken away. Fire destroyed the building again in 1909, and the inside was burnt down, while the walls of the building with red bricks sustained little damage. In 1910, restoration work of the building began, and was completed in 1911.
      As, for things I noticed in the game, there are kerosene lamps, the clothing, and the architecture of the Galaxy Team HQ building & the other buildings in Jubilife Village look like the late 19th century to early 20th century.
      There's also a wedding photo of Commander Kamado with his wife on the left of his desk in his office where he's wearing a suit. From what I've seen so far, I say it's late 1890s to early 1900s in the game.

    This is probably my favorite breakdown of the timeline I've seen! The idea that the timeline that the games are currently in would not have Red and Blue be responsible for the events of the Kanto games and the takedown of Team Rocket really sickens me, though... I think I'll just choose to not believe that part, even though your evidence for it was really compelling, lol.

    We're assuming the opening of DPPt with the Red Gyarados is live or even recent, but I don't think it actually says that. It seems to be a documentary about explorers who had heard of the Red Gyarados and searched for it, but DIDN'T find it. From thos the only thing we can assume is that it takes place AFTER GSC, since the Red Gyarados has been taken care of. It shouldn't be too long after since Jasmine appears similarly aged, or at least assume she is given the sprite used, but it could technically take place a number of years later.

    One thing I often think about is just the lore implications of just the legendary Pokémon alone like mewtwo is supposed to have fought MANY Pokémon so why don’t we hear of those battles? Even if it avoided some legends there is no way in he.. he did not at least fight the kanto birds/the legendary beast/ho ho/ luigia but no nothing while the two regions are literally neighbors yet the legendarys never interacted

    Here are the timelines I have. I've used an asterisk for the "mega timeline". Please note that Looker connects the timelines. Following the events of Black and White, he washes up in the Battle Resort in ORAS with amnesia. This is / is at least ten years prior to the events of Sun and Moon, given what we learn there.
    -138* years ago: Legends Arceus [1868*]
    +0: RSE - RBY/FRLG [1996]

  • @Scoo212
    @Scoo212 12 годин тому

    So I'm not sure if you wanna include the Game Freak Teraleak into discussion but the documents found in the leak state 3 bold things about the timeline: 1, BW takes place 10 years after DP, 2, SM takes place 10 years after RBY, and 3, ORAS is implied to take place around the same time as XY. You may notice there's already a massive contradiction: SM cannot be 10 years after RBY if BW is 10 years after DP. These statements were stated at different points of time of course, the BW one was in 2011 while the SM one was in 2014 in the SM pitch document, and the ages of Red and Blue in SM was stated to be 20 years old for both, so 9 to 10 years. The way I made it work for my personal timeline is that the gap between GSC and DP to BW is 10 years in the NON MEGA timeline, but only 2 years in the MEGA timeline. Is this perfect? Hell no, there's a ton of holes in this, but that's the best idea I have for it.

    I think the "mega timeline" is really just ORAS and the Let's Go games at best. XY being part of the "mega timeline" just because it has mega evolution pretty much contradicts the entire premise of the XY games, which is to explore why Mega evolution has only been witnessed within Kalos. Zinnia and Dexio even say in gen 7 that the mega evolution is a thing they brought from "back home". ORAS goes against it by having mega evolution be used widespread across Hoenn, even more than in Kalos.

    Wally's medical condition could make it to where he doesn't seem to age as much, a perpetual youth for some time (but not one of those "always a child" conditions). However, with your timeline, that easily brings credence to the idea that the time travel in Arceus, is what creates the divergent timelines.

  • @GeorgiaLambkin
    @GeorgiaLambkin 15 днів тому

    For helping to determine how long it is between the other games and BW, the Royal Unova is presently under construction during the events of ORAS and the Devon corporation are working in competition with Fennel, and her research is finished in BW.
    For Kalos, we know that "Team Plasma was making the news a while back in Unova" so it at least follows BW (potentially BW2) and that the Genesect drives were able to get to Kalos from Unova.
    1 weird detail though is that Blue studied abroad in Kalos, and that's where he got "bonjour" from, which he greets the player with on the SS. Anne.
    It's interesting to me that Looker in USUM mentions teams Plasma and Galactic, but not Flare despite being in Kalos. Though there is a good chance there are just 2 Lookers due to one being spat out of the Ultra Wormhole in ORAS. Dexio and Sina do reference the XY player and rivals, so cannot take place before XY.
    One detail that I think is annoying, is that in ORAS it is said that Pokemon Centres used to have 2 floors 10 years ago. Kanto, Johto, Hoenn (non-ORAS), Sinnoh, and Unova all have 2 floors to their pokemon centres. To me, this means that the time-scale of when things happen in the mega universe is significantly off from when it happens in the non-mega universe.

    To answer the question I'd first split the franchise into 3 eras/timelines with multiple branching timelines in each.
    Retro Era/Timeline
    1. Red -> Gold
    2. Blue -> Silver
    3. Yellow -> Crystal
    Renaissance Era/Timeline
    1. Fire Red -> Sapphire -> Heart Gold -> Pearl -> White -> White 2
    2. Leaf Green -> Ruby -> Soul Silver -> Diamond -> Black -> Black 2
    3. Fire Red -> Emerald -> Heart Gold -> Platinum -> White -> White 2
    3. Leaf Green -> Emerald -> Soul Silver -> Platinum -> Black -> Black 2
    Regression Era/Timeline
    1. Let's Go Pikachu -> Omega Ruby -> Y -> Moon -> Shield -> Scarlet
    2. Let's Go Eevee -> Alpha Sapphire -> X -> Sun -> Sword -> Violet
    3. Let's Go Pikachu -> Omega Ruby -> Y -> Ultra Moon -> Shield -> Scarlet
    4. Let's Go Eevee -> Alpha Sapphire -> X -> Ultra Sun -> Sword -> Violet

    My thoughts.
    There is no mega timeline and non mega time.
    Each form of media (games, anime, tgc, ect.) all are there own timelines, and every game cartridge is its own timeline unique to what the player does on it.
    But each game is still on one timeline, megas exist, the remakes are just the same events that happen years later, there is no timeline split, what the girl was referring to was what I said above at least to me.
    Finally I think all Pokemon games (aside from Legends Arceus which takes place 150 years ago.) take place in the year of the release of the game, same with any events or dlc, it takes place the year of was released to the public.
    That's what I think.

    12:54 There is evidence which states that Legends Arceus actually takes place in the post-apocalyptic future and not the past, and that evidence is from an unlikely source, Diamond and Pearl.
    You see, in Diamond and Pearl, there is a book that can be read at the Canalave Library, known as Sinnoh Folk Story 3, which states that humans and Pokémon were once one and the same, implying that the Mystery Dungeon games are not only canon to the mainline games, but also take place long before the mainline games, in the distant past, as they match with the story told in the book, and this is further evidenced by Ninetales' and Kadabra's Pokédex entries, which references the Ninetales legend and the general "human turning into Pokémon" phenomena that were common during that time respectively. Within the Mystery Dungeon games, there exists one game in particular, Explorers, which actually shows us how time travel works exactly in Pokémon, which will be important later on. This finally brings us back to Legends Arceus, where near the end of the game, Rei/Akari battles and eventually defeats Volo, preventing the bad future from happening as a result, but what comes next ultimately determines the timeline placement of Legends Arceus. If Legends Arceus really did take in the past, then Rei/Akari would be from the bad future, and as such, would start to slowly disappear from existence after defeating Volo, as without the bad future, Rei/Akari would've been prevented from being born and therefore existing, thus creating a grandfather paradox. We know this because that's exactly what happened to the hero in Explorers, where the hero is from the bad future, and as such, after defeating Primal Dialga and preventing the bad future from happening, starts to slowly disappear from existence, enough to say the final words to the partner. However, that is no what happened in Legends Arceus, because what actually happened instead is that, after defeating Volo, Rei/Akari doesn't disappear and instead simply continue existing, implying that Rei/Akari isn't from the bad future but is instead from the past, which means that Legends Arceus can't actually take place in the past and must instead take place in the post-apocalyptic future.
    I hope that this will help you understand the timeline even better and maybe even make a follow-up video that will cover the changes.

    I’ve always been of the understanding that Gen 1 and 2 are their own separate timeline, one where Kanto is locked the hell down and nothing gets in or out.
    Then there’s gen 3-5 as a timeline with FRLG and RSE, HGSS and DPPT, BW, and B2W2.
    And then there’s the latest timeline with PLA, LGPE and ORAS, BDSP, XY, SM, USUM, SWSH, and SV.
