Yup I teach my physical therapy patients a box squat variation. It’s so much easier to learn for the reasons you listed . My cue is to sit back like your sitting down to the toilet and not the edge of the toilet.
One thing people don't talk about with free squats vs box squats is the level of how fucked you are with box squats if you don't come up compared to free squats.
Well with regular squats u can kinda dump the bar behind you/ bail out. With box squats when u sit down it's KINDA hard to dump the weight off of u in that awkward position 😅
I just started implementing it into my training.Decided not to rest on the box and just do it until my booty touches it and don't go all the way back. I feel it to much in my knees that way.
Front squat also has carryover to deadlift. I stoped deadlifting for two months just doing squats, and my deadlift actually went up alongside with squat
The height of the box can vary. It depends on what you're doing. If you're training technique, you can set the height to competition depth. Other heights on the box can be used to train sticking points.
I’ve just started Box squatting and I’m feeling the benefits, but is it normal for someone to be 100lbs weaker off a Box than a free squat? I’m presuming it’s because I’m mainly using undeveloped posterior chain muscles rather than quads and eventually the weights will catch back up?
@@mattwenning2164 ??? Why would you make a video for upper body warm up but not a lower body one? I have your tactical military manual and don't see a lower body warm up guide like the 4x20 warm up sets you did a video on a few months ago.

no. pause squats will though.
Pause squats are great for that. Do pause squats all the way to your working weight

Depends on how deep you're box squatting. If you box squat at your free squat bottom position you will box squat less than free squat probably.
