I can't find the measurements of these niches anywhere. For a 12"x20" niche, where are those measurements taking? The inside of the niche? The outside of the nice box? The outside of the flange? I can't believe this info isn't anywhere on the product description page.
Hi there! The 12''x20'' measurement is the inside of the niche. The niche measures 16''x24'' and 4'' deep including the thickness of the boards and the flange. You can find the CAD drawing in the download section of the product. Hope that helps!
Hi Colin, it depends on what type of studs you are working with (i.e. wood or metal.) For metal studs, use the same metal as the stud. Thanks for watching!
Schluter-Systems North America and if you are using wood studs? I notice the screws into the wood with the niche look like your Schluter ZS screws but then right next to those screws are phosphate coated drywall screws. Why would drywall screws not be suitable to hold the niche when right next them are drywall screws holding gypsum. Awaiting your reply. Thanks
Hi Colin, thanks for the follow up details! Yes, as long as the head is large enough to secure the niche flange, that will be fine as they will work with the wood studs as well.
what if you want to stick this in with a shower that will be waterproofed concrete board like redband or something? I dont have money for the whole kerdi system its way out of my price range. could you just use the kerdiband around the seams to seal it up?
The niche should be sealed with KERDI-BAND waterproofing band before tile is installed. Our Shower Installation Handbook explains in more detail here: sccpublic.s3-external-1.amazonaws.com/sys-master/images/h38/h3f/9007361359902/Shower%20System%20Installation%20Handbook.pdf
Correct! The washers would push out on the edges if overlapped onto the drywall. When using KERDI-BOARD around the niche, you would still use the washers. Hope this helps!
Hi Sara, we have multiple sizes available in our shower trays. They are also easily modified by trimming them down or by adding mortar around them to make them bigger. You can contact Customer Support for information on how to shorten or extend the sides of your tray and still keep an even perimeter height. 800-472-4588 (US) or 800-667-8746 (Canada). And here's a link to our Shower Tray page on our website where you can see our sizes: www.schluter.com/schluter-us/en_US/schluter-us/en_US/Shower-System/Prefabricated-Substrates/Schluter%C2%AE-KERDI-SHOWER-T--TS--TT/p/KERDI_SHOWER-T-TS-TT?facets=false Hope this helps!
Question, if I install kerdi over studs then find a low area that has a 1/4 low spot, can I screed that off with thinset, let dry, then continue with install? Just didnt know if there's a max amount of thinset you can add to foam boards.. thanks
Hi there, can you give our Customer Service team a call to discuss your project in a bit more detail, and they can advise from there. 800-472-4588 (US) or 800-667-8746 (Canada). Thanks!

Is the niche already pitched to allow the water to drain Into the shower, or should we tilt the niche to pitch it ourselves?
Hi there! No, the niche is not pitched; however, the tile may be set on a slope, to prevent water from pooling in the finished application.
@@schlutersystems1 appreciate the response.
our pleasure!
Nice! I’ve gotta get me one of those new black schluter hats. As a tile installer I have to rep my favorite brand! 🧢
I like how he put the metals on wrong lmao 🤣
What are the appropriate screws?!?!

Hi there! We would warranty the niche, but not the rest of the shower assembly and other products as it is not the complete system. Hope that helps!
Do you need to seal/caulk inside the niche after tiling or is just grout fine?
The niche should be sealed with KERDI-BAND waterproofing band before tile is installed. Our Shower Installation Handbook explains in more detail here: sccpublic.s3-external-1.amazonaws.com/sys-master/images/h38/h3f/9007361359902/Shower%20System%20Installation%20Handbook.pdf
No Kerdi washers on the niche screws?
Correct! The washers would push out on the edges if overlapped onto the drywall. When using KERDI-BOARD around the niche, you would still use the washers. Hope this helps!
What if want a bigger shower pan? Like 700mm x 900 mm. Are these available?

Do you need to have a frame supporting the niche on all four sides? It seemed that in this video that the niche was not supported underneath?
Hi Rick, the niche only needs to be supported on the sides, with a 12" minimum for fastener spacing.

Great, thank you!
Is there a Schluter "chat" I can use to ask quick questions, if I need to, while starting my kerdi board install?
