This came in handy. Was trying ti shir for the first time the other night and getting frustrated at the squiggles on the back. Never new about the bobbin on my brother 😅 now ive managed to do 2 lines and it looks great. Will practice a bit more before i try my hand at a garment. Thanks for the video!

So, yes this works. The problem is its almost too perfect. Sewing a second row was a little difficult because the fabric was so scrunched. Now, I put the bobbin in the regular way, with the tension screw still at it's tightest and it wouldn't gather again. So with the drop in machines, I think uou have to manually thread the elastic in that groove, much like a front loading bobbin, to get that shirred effect. I'm going to play with it a bit to figure it out, but I do think this is the way.

I bought a specific bobbin just for shirring as it will loosen your tension case making it almost impossible to go back to regular sewing. I have a singer 2277 front loading bobbin if that helps.

Thank you- this really helped although I’m finding it annoying as the elastic runs out quickly! Can I ask- do I then have to loosen the screw in the bobbin when I go back to normal sewing?

I was told by someone else who sews that you can do this but that you should loosen the screw the same amount you tightened it when you're finished shirring.

I didn’t need to tighten my screw (mine didn’t come with a screw driver so I tested my luck) t
