    Curbside Mechanic, dude, just like other reviewers I'm giving you two thumbs up not only for pulling this job on the curbside but also coming up with a very good video while you're at it AND trying to help responding every question. The latter part, very unusual. The info you dished out is very helpful for me as am gearing up to do the job this weekend for the first time in my MK4 Jetta TDI.

    I have a very important question. I’m stuck getting the actual trans down. The flange to the passenger side axel is getting caught on the back of the flywheel. How do I get that around the flywheel and past the subframe on the driver side? Do I just drop it straight down? Because, it gets caught on either of thise.

    Great video 👍 Saw quite a bit of fluid leak out when you popped off gearbox. Also a lot of oil/grime on the flywheel. Is it possible something was leaking into the bell housing, causing the clutch to slip?
    Curious how it drove after you cleaned and put same clutch back in?

    • @curbsidemechanic3229
      @curbsidemechanic3229  4 роки тому +1

      Hey @scud, great question. You are very observant as well. The fluid dripping was coolant but there was a lot of grime that could have been cleaned up also. I never changed the rear main seal nor have I ever replaced the valve cover gasket on this vehicle. She is leaking from somewhere but it has never pooled up in my parking space.
      She drove like crap after I reinstalled the clutch. It took off fine but if I attempted to accelerate quickly, it wouldn't catch. I did remove the flywheel from a scrapped 1.8t block and replaced everything. I believe it was a Spec Stage 2 Clutch that I installed. It is very responsive and aggressive. There is no easing off the line when the light changes. It's more like gas it and Go Go Go.
      Thanks for your feedback.

    Was this an automatic or manual? And are there any differences in the process between the two?

    • @curbsidemechanic3229
      @curbsidemechanic3229  Рік тому

      This particular vehicle was a manual. There are a few small differences between the two. I know the shift towers are different on removal and you have to align the torque converter on the installation for the automatic transmission.

    Hey man long story short axle blots left the chat and cracked my entire case on my 02J 5 speed. I did the single mass flywheel conversion before on my engine. I see the spec stage 2 you used without the flywheel. Wondering if it would fix my single mass flywheel??

    Hey Great Video.
    Would these steps be similar for an automatic transmission?

    • @curbsidemechanic3229
      @curbsidemechanic3229  4 роки тому +1

      @Victor Salvatierra The bolt patterns for the transmissions are the same. The difference would be in removing the shift towers. When reinstalling the transmission on the automatic it's a little more difficult to realign it because of the Torque Converter. ua-cam.com/video/wTYuGG4ijgw/v-deo.html

    • @curbsidemechanic3229
      @curbsidemechanic3229  2 роки тому +1

      @Z M 😆 Yes you can disconnect the axels without removing the center bolt from the wheel side. You are actually supposed to replace the bolt on the wheel side if you remove it. Just remove the 6 bolts from the transmission side and tie the axels up with some bungee straps or rope.
