- Does Final Fantasy XIV SUCK? Final Fantasy 14 is one of the biggest MMO's currently on the market. Alongside World Of Warcraft, Black Desert Online, Runescape, Destiny 2, and more, it's tough to know which game to invest you time into so today I'll give you a review of final fantasy xiv to see if it's as great as many proclaim it to do be, or if it sucks. Recently Square Enix unveiled their newest expansion, Endwalker which looks to bring not just the finale to the pre-existing story, but also a plethora of gameplay changes to will boost the overall experience of the game. Alongside Alliance raids, an insane amount of dungeons and bosses, tons of different classes and jobs, a large pool of weapons and armour to pick from, and Final Fantasy 14 online may very well be the next game you sink hundreds of hours into. hope you enjoy :)

This is not a review of FFXIV, it is just a day in the life of a Dragoon XD.
Do you auto fight and just use skills while they auto hit orrrr like
There are tons of stuff going on in raids making it hard to see. You can make it less confusing by turning off or limiting effects from players not in your alliance. I also hide player names not in my party that have full life.
i dont know how people play with the fx on, its like a 4th of july celebration all the time

you can turn off or limit the effects from other people's spells to not blind yourself. Its under character settings
as and end game player myself,being caught up with the story and now just maxing out my classes,its an amazing game,theres soo much to do,if you get bored of the main story and need a break,there is tons of other content to do and mess around with

can someone advise new player on buying ff14? I just joined trial version and wondering where and how to buy it fully? I heard some package includes expansions plus 30 days free subsctription but I dont see it on main website
been playing this game since closed beta of 2.0. it always nice to see new people get into this game. not to excuse ARR but it was just after the tried to rebuild the game from the original 14 and even some of the engine system had to kept to get it up and running in time. ARR when it was new was not as bad after 50 like it is now cause all those quests where getting like 5-8 quest every 3 months so it was not as bad to get thru. 1-50 seemed slow with some great throw in but most of the story was rush out to get the game rebuild, and as they got more in a pattern the story would step some and they was always changing. that how got heavenward low filler more great they listen to the people playing the game and they still continue to try new stuff and learn how to make it better.

Great review. I beat shadowbringers a few days ago and I agree with everything you said here. The story/gameplay does suck in the beginning but only gets better as you progress in the game. I also have two questions. Are you still playing the game and what did you think of the heavensward story?
Thanks for watching. So I finished Heavensward and the beginning was slow but throughout had some good moments. The ending though... epic! I enjoyed it.
I stopped playing early into stormblood. The game felt too repetitive. Even though it was a new story the way you go through it was very similar to ARR & HW. It also doesn’t help that the best content for these type of games are at the end. Grinding for gear felt pointless cuz there’s always something better after the next story mission. And in general, just got burned out. Hope to jump back in and finish Stormblood and Shadowbringers before Endwalker.
Short answer: yes! will this game be worth your time the next 3 years? short answer: Yes.
IF you can get over 500 hours of mind numbing content and slow combat with built in latency

U can turn off other players animations in the settings and it can clear up alot of the Field of View. Or watch the fireworks either works

Ff14 is not a game you play if you're concerned about time, lmao. I just want to see cool, super high budget Square Enix cutscenes. Why do I always have to talk to cardboard cutouts who give out dozens of fetch quests first :(

@@RockyPunk just so you know the pose different per race like my char is hyur just stand there with spear up but they do not the left leg cross behind the right. and even the Miqo'te have a different stand for standing/sitting even without the weapon. it just small difference in most of the races.

obviously lol. This is a quality game but you also pay the sub fee. Its worth it. Great story, so much to do not compareable to any other mmo
At first I thought it was drug out too long in ARR and Heavensward then I realized the sheer amount of content to be had. If it was paced any faster early on then it would be overwhelming. I definitely recommend at least giving the trial a shot to anyone on the fence.
Now there’s 48 raid savage ;) where you can get the 3 headed puppy as mount~ these raid are also the best way to weed out catbois and lalas

Want to play this so bad but the kB/m and controller setup is like a dark souls boss lol. I want to play a game, not a setup that will test my fingers dexterity. Any noobs can attest to easy to learn controls?
Some jobs are easier than others of course. I play with controller, for that I'd recommend jobs with less buttons (white mage black mage red mage warrior dark knight dancer) Some jobs like the scholar or the paladin have more buttons than the 32 you can easily map with a controller, and some just have very complicated rotations that are too complex fot my smooth brain, like Samurai. The UI and keybinds are 100% customizable so you can always make things work for you.
If u don't like staring at the screen while in que as a dps just play tank.
The moment u sign in for a Dungeon it will say Dungeon is ready :)
But if u are dps go make ur self a lunch or something :P

This game is a varied sandbox of fun for all kinds of gamers.
I personally enjoy being a tank and optimizing my dungeons and raids, while my friends like to dress up as cat girls and take screenshots all day

@reative nah man, its spending 500 days with my closest friends and family actually. we are having a blast in discord + ingame content.
@reative well, doing something in real life is actually better, you're right about that. but most people work 8-11hrs a day, you can either waste the rest of your day at home alone or watching movies or tv, OR you could spent some time in discord voice chat with your friends and family and play a game, you know. you can do the best of both worlds.
@reative Look don't be an ass and besides, what's a waste to you isn't to someone else. If you don't realise that, then you're the problem. Not to mention your comment don't make much sense. You act like you can't play this game and still work out, work and socialize.
I'll tell you about this game playerbase, it's mostly casual players who have a job. The hard-core players who play this game is pretty insignificant. Maybe 1% of players do Ultimate.
It's the same for other games like Wow too. How many really do Mythic 20? The idea that mmo players have nothing to do is not outdated because it was never true.
People were playing Star Wars Galaxies and Everquest while working 8 to 12 hours a day.

When you can play its great but ever since I hit SB I get error 90002 everytime my character breaths. No solutions from forums, reddit or anything have worked either. This is beyond frustrating and making me straight up despise this game, because it is legit just this game I'm having issues with.

Since this game is famous for being terrible at launch but incredible after arr and the amazing expansions, you don't say?
The only issue I ever have with ffxiv reviews/first impressions (in general really) are when the person presenting it is already going into the game with a preconceived notion vs. just going in with an open mind.
With FFxiv in particular, Shadowbringers has brought several new "reviewers" out of the woodwork. More often than not, they all parroted the same thing - ARR is "slow". First and foremost, the issue is the preconceived notion mentioned prior that the reviewers usually hear from their friends, followers, and such. To be more specific, it almost always boils down to Shadowbringers is just top tier and ARR is just the boring slog you have to go through to get to it. Such notion is purely subjective of course, but the ACTUAL issue is again - the preconceived notion. Moreover, reviewers are going into the game making an unfair comparison of the base content vs. literally the most recent content and/or endgame. With ANY game worth it's salt, OF COURSE it'll get better over time. The flaw in the "issue" being presented, is that these reviewers are mostly in it for the destination vs. the journey. To put it more bluntly, they simply aren't being honest with themselves.
If you're going into something with the intent to just get to what you assume is "the good stuff", your "review"/first impression will almost always show it via you reviewing ARR (the start of the game) as a means to an end vs. actually critiquing it. On top of that, it shows when unfair comparisons are made between ARR (the start) and Shadowbringers (the end).
In defense of ARR, I don't believe it is boring or slow. I would agree that it is a slow start, BUT I take issue with the fact that too many "reviewers" are conflating slow with boring and/or bad. I could understand if ARR took at least 25% of the expansion, 3+ hours, etc. (something like that) to ramp up, but this is simply not the case. The real fact of the matter is that many people making this claim either have a short attention span or are going in with the preconceived notion I mentioned earlier.
In stark contrast of the reviews/impressions being presented by those hopping on the Shadowbringers bandwagon, ARR is just starts out with slow combat. Other than that, the story pacing in done very well. The only thing that make it "slow" or a "slog" are the occasional fetch quests you have to do, which are nowhere near as numerous as the new wave of players would have you believe. In my humble opinion, I think this all stems from older players trying to get their Call of Duty type shoot em up friends into the game by showing them all the shiny stuff in Shadowbringers and telling them ARR is more or less the "slow/boring" means to an end as it were. Getting new players into a game and trying a new game in general are both good things, BUT people really need to find better/more honest ways of going about it. If I could have it my way, I'd tell people to stop looking at endgame/recent trailers and assuming that it's the way the WHOLE game is. Also, I'd encourage people to start going into games with an open mind vs. a mindset of getting through the bad to get to the good.
Dude... ARR is like 70+ hours...you can’t accuse anyone of “short attention span” if they complete it ... if you like it cool but imo (and a large chunk of the player bases opinion) ARR is slow, boring, and I’ll be honest, bad. Mission structure is atrocious, the fetch quests are never ending, dungeons are average at best, boss fight is tedious, and the post ARR story also leads to a very anticlimactic and confusing ending.
That has nothing to do with my preconceived notions. There are plenty of games that reviewers hate but I love (and vice versa). My first 10-15 hours I was patient and waited for the story to pick up, it never did. But whatever, if you liked it, great. But I feel comfortable saying most people did not enjoy ARR and there are plenty of reasons why.

Played bdo and really loved it but left because I hate p2w thing in it. Started guildwars2 and I don't really enjoy it as its more of a dodging and jumping puzzle game, items doesn't really matter as I got the best ascended in 4-6weeks .. how is FF14 compare to these other games, where does it stand ?
Well I haven’t put a lot of time into either BDO or Guildwars 2, but I’d say FF 14 is a single player MMO (if that makes any sense). I started playing it with my friend and during the main story it was basically a solo campaign, apart from dungeons (and raids that start WAY too late) there wasn’t much to do together.
Endgame (even though I’m not there yet) is where the multiplayer part of FF 14 kicks in.
Tons of stuff to do and gear to obtain.
The game doesn’t have pay2win but it DEFINITELY has pay2advance. You can buy story skips and level skips for each class that will get you to 10 levels BELLOW max level. Usually I hate this, but honestly this time it didn’t bother me.
Combat is REALLY boring at the beginning but i swear it gets much better as you get into the higher level.
Basically FF 14 is a game that only gets better and better. Starts off (in my opinion) pretty bad, but becomes good. Best advice I could give someone is, if after 10 hours or so you’re not enjoying the story, just buy a story skip. I know anyone who suggests this gets tons of hate from the community but ARR is such a turn off that it’s better to skip to get to the good stuff then force yourself through it. Who knows though, maybe you’ll like it.

How about items? As example, bdo has best in slot not so best but everything based on enchanting which takes hundreds of hours grinding and working towards better gear, and pretty much all the time you have a chance to make your gear better, better stats etc. Gw2 on other hand, you get best in slot after a month and all grinding after that doesn't feel rewarding as you know you not gonna get any stronger, only master jumping puzzles and dodging from the grind - thats why I can't do it anymore after only 2 months playing it.
Ff14 good items are dropped by chance anywhere, or dropped from raids, or crafted only? Can you enchant items in FF14? It there like many really good items with similar stats or is it 1 best item and thats it, thats what you working for?

@@Brenden-jo5ou You get a 30 day sub with the complete edition and the game gives you 15 free extra days for reaching level 30 on a preferred world you make your character on so all in all you get 45 days before you have to pay the sub which is a lot of time to catch up on the game so I'd say most definitely.
This game is great, I'm going to play it again this week after taking a 6 months break.

How would the controls feel like on a ps4? You've got a lot of abilities.
It's great
You can trigger up to 32 actions without much problem on your controller, technically even up to 128
I play on controller and it's really comfy for me. And I play every job, even summoner which arguably has the most buttons to rotate around
@@Quilavar ok but how does it feel using those abilities. Do you spam the best abilities when their available or is do you have to think more. I've played xenoblade chronicles 1 and 2 and I like the combat there and it's pretty similar to ff14 just with less abilities.

But rest assured, they always develop the abilities with controller players in mind, so when their quantity gets to much tjey reduce them in some fashion.
If you play a dps for example the less strong abilities become relevant through combos, meaning that if you use the weaker ones first, the next stronger part of the combo has a stronger base attack.
Healers for example have a certain percentage chance to get a cast a stronger heal for free if you do a weaker heal first and so on

Edit: as great as the free trial is, they trick you if you are playing socially. Since the free trial account locks all the social abilities (can’t make groups, add to friends list, etc). It’s a minor thing that has us coughing up money far sooner than we want. :(
Oh yes but only 1 of you need to be in the subscription. As long as the person with the subscription starts the party, the others can join even without sub. It’s annoying but a little trick. My bad, I should’ve stated that in the video. Thanks for watching :)
Hardly a review, imo, your not even at shb. As is most of the mmo games out there the fun starts at heavansward, arr is regrettably dry as heck, but they have condensed a great number of the fetch quests in arr to make it bearable. I've played since 2.0 on its release, and have been a long time player and supporter. If you really want to just jump into the good stuff, you can buy a story skip and job skip potion. Costs real money but it's an option.the story the music the people the overall community....it's such a wonderful game and theres so much extra stuff to do in between story questing.
This IS a review. A review for NEW players, not for ones currently at endgame (which wouldn’t even make sense).
I think 200 hours is more than a fair amount of time to judge whether a game is good or not.
@@RockyPunk that's true. Most people judge a MMO after around 16-30 hours. I actually think ARR alone is good enough as a game to convince you into playing more.

800 hrs here. All classes lvl 70.
I just broke 10k hours a few weeks ago and called it quits. The devs got way too over-zealous with Shadowbringers and while they did add a lot of things, the depth and difficulty of all the content is super thin. So yeah, if you're a child with no attention span or a super casual player that plays for 30 mins a day, FFXIV is perfect for you. But if you're looking for an actually good mmo experience, skip it. I could go into all the problems with raids from savage to ultimate, all the classes since I've maxed them all and can score at least 50 parses on each (except bard cause it's trash at the time I quit), crafting, the dogshit community that needs to be burned alive, and the unholy content droughts that the devs refuse to fix (Yoshi P has told players to just unsub until a new patch comes out. The fuck?).
I spoke out about the issues before to only be met with death threats, some very choice words in dms, and constant harassment which made me leave my original server and requiring me to create an entirely new discord account, multiple character name changes and more to escape it.
Don't let that ruin it for you since it's pretty uncommon but definitely expect to see some cracks in this "perfect" mmo
currently in the middle of shadowbringer msq. I know the game has problems(especially since I played pvp for a while and the game feels limited at some places because of that weird engine they use or something), but I never heard about this many problems in the game from someone. Just wondering, what are the problems with the game?

But yeah maybe the drama people camping in Limsa are a thing in my server because it did surprise me but people told me it was "limsa culture"
However, I think it's great there's a place more or less defined for the more social/rp community
Most people seem to know about it, so they know where they can find each others and enjoy the game in their own way while those who are not into that know where they can expect them and leave them be

It does not stop at 56 though, one of the latest content feature a really hectic 72 man raid.

I'm watching this AFTER having just bought the PS4 version. I bought a story skip on PC because it was really boring... but I may have to make a new character and retry this game.
You dont have to make another character. There's a way to replay old sections of the game. After completing Shadowbringers, I went and replayed it because the story was so good.
the story can be a drag indeed at the first half of AAR, the second half is when it really picks up; just remember you get a free character on every server on the same data center, so you can just make a character on another server to slowly make it through the story; and there is also new game+ where you can play through AAR on your main as well; lots of options
@@amberkielher6888 the drag is not the story it's the atrocious story book read a page wait for a cut scene line by line acting by book readers. It's the implementation. This game can seriously afford an extra 40 gig just for an English audio voice overs experience. It's totally an unfinished game, in an era of netflix streaming where the audio could have also been streamed. Not to mention there's so much more read out aloud in the Japanese audio version compared to English. Serious, the Japanese had shipped this game as if they were China back in 2000 with all that cheap made in china junk in them poundstores. No wonder Avengers flops and gets the same score as ARR got way back. And then the only players left in ffxiv are those who enjoy being skewered alive by a Pokemon gameboy experience from 1997.
Seriously, in this day and age with theatre performers stuck at home, we could see game developers make a live stream live quest. Where parties of people could play through a quest with voice over live streamed. Who goes to the theatre anymore when the theatre can come to your final fantasy. Heck all them theme park actors, they could have their voices in a final fantasy. And the quests replayed like that. Seriously, someone make this happen. And these days game capture suits only cost under $3k. Seriously, this final fantasy mmo could be a door into the Matrix. Want a particular actor play a scene? Gofundme style mog station quests. Final Fantasy Flix.

"this game has so much content you can't be spoiled". As someone who loves the msq, you absolutely can be spoiled about stuff in this game.
I think the answer is no. The reality is you're either paying money to skip AAR or spending 50+ hours playing for the chance the game might get better. It does, but only marginally, the reality is the combat is static and simplistic and the biggest challenge in savage/ultimate or any raids is just the sheer amount of visual clutter so it's literally better to turn the FX off so you can see past all the blinding amounts of bullshit. It lacks the QOL of most MMOs from the mid 2000's.
And even once the game gets better there's still the complete lack of quest variety. Most of the quests are still fetch quests that have you getting some assholes groceries with only a handful of quests being interesting. FFXIV is great if you're looking to substitute your real social life with a digital one, though. I don't think I know many players who in Endbringer who have a healthy relationship with the game.

5 of my friends tried FF XIV. 2 quit during ARR and 3 quit before completing Heavensward due to burnout.

I believe the biggest mistake people make on FFXIV is treating it as an mmo first.
It's pretty much a numbered Final Fantasy game and said that.. it pretty much makes it weird compared to other mmos.
I don't really mind if people think it's better or worse comparing it to another numbered FF game though.

and in higher lvls you will start seeing more WHMs that let the tanks HP drop just to see how far they can go without them dying
and uh.. if you didnt do so already, you can limit the effects of other players in ur settings

i want to try it cause its so dam pretty.. designs are amazing .. plus waifus.. but i hate the combat.. i dont care what ppl say.. its not action combat.. tab targetting sucks, plus no chat bubbles and no full voice acting
FF14 ticks most boxes for me, but the only thing that is holding me back from playing this game is the combat. Action combat is simply superior than tab-targeting.
Yeah I agree about action combat being better than tab targeting. However I believe the combat in FF14 is still enjoyable. Thanks for watching
@@RockyPunk I just wanted to say that I finally tried the game and I love it, I even bought the expansions, it will be my main game for a long time! I still prefer action combat, but you are right FF14 combat is still enjoyable :D

lmao did FFXIV really turn of all comments on their youtube chanel? what are they thinking. also the fact that new players can't post on FFXIV reddit is concerning to. this game desperately needs chat bubbles, more PvP content, Smaller IU text font, Frontline que pop out, more skillshots and dodges,t his game has crazy animations but skills feel like they have no impact...they focus on the wrong things...They need to combine PvE with PvP....playzers fightign for bosses and mounts world pvp events...

I've never played FFXIV with the mentality of an mmo player.
It's usually more enjoyable to think it's a Final Fantasy game with online features.

I don't know why they made a trial out of ARR and heavens ward. The cut scenes are like eating death, and killing ffxiv for so many people.

It has great PvE, but its progression system is non-existent, which made me quit. Also leveling alts is the worst nightmare I've ever seen in an MMO.
Oh my gosh I completely forgotten to mention how terrible levelling alts is... a nightmare indeed
It's more that you can lvl all the classes on one character so alts are mostly redundant as there is no real need for that. Also you get a free character aperance change at the end if ARR so you can change race and character aperance if you wish to then.

tbf a surprising number of chicks do play this game, more than any other MMO I'd say. Also a lot of LGBT peeps as well.
One guy told me that the cut scenes were really killing it for him. For me, I decided to try a trial game in the playstation store on the 9th Jan. And since two days ago I just started heavensward and all I can think is 'when is this trial going to end!!!'. I'm constantly feeling 'its going to get better, just stay with it'. No wonder women are playing this game. It's the pimp of the gaming world, it beats you with cutscenes and dialogue cuts and excess reading, making you think it'll get better.

The base game AND first expansion are included in the free trial. That’s around 200 hours of game time and will get you to level 60 where the combat will be fast and fun. After that you pay a monthly fee (which includes the 2nd expansion) and then if finish that expansion, you need to pay for the latest one (which is fairly priced). As far an MMO’s go, this is the best deal.
