- So you want to know the 'secret' behind the complexity #Meshuggah riffs?
Maybe it's Morse Code....
There's loads of way to count this but for simplicity it's 4 bars of 4/4 and a bar of 7/8. The second layer is a polymeter and is two bars of 4/4 and a bar of 2/4, then two bars of 4/4 and one bar of 3/8. It sounds weird but it ties up eventually. Also add a healthy dose of delay and reverb on the top lines! It makes for a pretty convincing Meshuggah style riff!
Tuning - G G C F A D

So cool! The ‘metal’ layer made it even better!
Borrowed some ideas from the Koloss album for that part. Adds a bit of depth and interest. Absolute nightmare to count though!
*Insert iconic Jen’s face here*
first listen i was thinking, "wow, can't believe i missed this banger, what album is this from???" before reading the description and realizing it's not a cover. i'm a little slow sometimes. your tones are spot on
Nailed the vibe. Usually with Meshuggah, though, the "layer", as well as the drum beat, are in 4/4, while the guitar riff runs its course over the barline, and is cut off to resolve at 16, or 32, or 64 bars.
The original notation is in 4/4 with a bar of 7/8 for the last letter to make it work a bit better and the hats are the 4/4 groove part. I tried snare on 2+4 or 3 but it felt empty and less interesting so took a bit of artistic license
@@ShadowMantraSteve Nice, I didn't catch that.
Im surprised they didn't even think of this. It honestly sounds like something they'd write
that is actually smart
This is amazing, I need more of this!
Great job!! 🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸
Thanks 🤘
😂😂😂 Best metal face on earth! And this great mosh pit guitar playing! I love it! 👌👍👍👍🤜🤛
Nahhhh bro this too cool🔥🔥
the kick's very uncharacteristic of meshuggah though
haha NICE!
haha its like a morse code
🤘🏻😄
More please using more and binary code and meshuggah
Hands down one of the heaviest things I've ever heard (and I hate the post-Meshuggah "djent" stuff)
