Thank you so much for this, we are coming from Ireland at the end of the month and I was really starting to fret with the reports in the media. Thank you for taking the time to do this video
Hit the nail on the head there. Ban all that and build more affordable homes with transport links. Locals get priority. Tackle illegal immigration and problem solved.
In the middle of a 10 night stay, we rented a car and have been to both touristy areas and the smaller villages and have had no issues. Also thanks for the advise we went to the very North of the island Orzola then dropped into Haria on the way back south and it was beautiful (roads are a bit tight though 😂
My 5yr old daughter and myself stayed in the Los Jameos last year in February, I came back again on my own in March last year and stayed at Luz y Mar. We're booked in again at the Jameos for May this year. Absolutely loved the holidays the atmosphere and the chilled out nature of the staff along the strip and on the island. Last year there was a UK media spin which took quite a long time from the time of source to get through, it was about María Dolores Corujo's comments on ''Higher quality tourism and holidaymakers who spend more''. If you look into the real source material then her comments were taken out of context by external media. Either way the problem much like Cornwall is that locals struggle to live in the main hotspots where the money is, the solution would be for the government to provide subsidies and or housing and tax relief for the locals on the island, if that's to be funded by Tourist tax then the fee needs to fair and also money needs to go to the locals and not in the pockets of the greedy. Dave really enjoy your channel, let's ignore this b..... and enjoy ourselves .
Just stumbled onto your channel , & i have to say it has put my mind at ease with regards to the Canaries especially Tenerife as i am going back out there in October . Keep up the good work . P.s i have also subscribed
I absolutely love Lanzarote. I’ve been going there since the 1990s and I’ve never felt unwelcome or unsafe. The locals are always very friendly, and genuine 🏖️🌋
Lanzarote is a beautiful, safe, welcoming island. We have been visiting at least once a year for the last 15 years or so and love it. Yes it does need more properties to be built solely for locals and improved infrastructure to support it, but isn't that also the case in UK where Devon/ Cornwall, Lake district all say the same thing. Ignore the media, get to the canaries, you will love it!!
Thanks for this vlog. We were fuming at the trash being said & written about the Canaries. We are heading back to La Geria hotel in September. Love the island and the people. Maybe see you around. Cheers. Tom n Ali. 🍻
Thanks for vlog, I’ve been to Lanzarote twice in the last 6 months & always had a friendly welcome. Agree more affordable housing is needed for local people
If the UK press told me it was raining I would check outside first to make sure. Don't believe the hype folks. Lanzarote has and always will be a great welcoming holiday. This is coming from a couple who have visited over 17 times and hope to be back again soon.
Cheers Dave, booked for August, was never in doubt 👍🇮🇪 we visit twice a year and have never experienced any negativity. This issue was discussed and reported on Irish radio earlier this week with a proper perspective. Yes there may be some issues with accommodation for some workers but nothing at all that would suggest tourists are not welcome, it’s their livelihood 👍
Thanks for clarifying the media hyping things up yet again Dave, we've been watching your videos over the last few months as we're bringing our kids for their first visit to Playa Blanca in a few weeks and looking forward to it. Can you please settle a dispute for us though, we've been trying to work out your accent, are you originally from Birmingham? I said that's got to be a Brummie accent but I'm being told no?
Canarian tourist industry should invest in rental property for hotel/tourism workers. I hear some of the massive newer hotels having struggled to recruit staff. Vicious cycle
That, s one excuse. The hotels said that because they want to have the monopoly, and they Don, t like vv,because is very great competence for them. In one way, they are saying that there is a lot of job for the canaries, but isn, t possible give it, because this people Don, t have place for rent.Undirectly they are saying that the government need to put down the number of vv.
Just returned home after a week in Los Jameos Playa in Los Pocillos, Lanzarote. There is absolutely no truth in the media reports that us tourists are not welcome. Everyone over there were so polite and friendly. There is no need for concern if you have a trip booked, just go and enjoy these lovely resorts. The Canarian people are tremendous.
So glad i watched this 😂 ooolaalalaaa baywatch 😂😂😂 on a serious note i take no bloody notice of the media what a load of nonsense wont stop me holidaying great video 👍 il just rewind 🤣🤣
I go to Porto in Portugal every year. The same narrative is being spun about Porto however I've been made to feel nothing but welcome. If it wasn't for the tourists the city would die. I agree some of the locals might get tired with all rhe tourists bit i think that's only a small percentage.
Very reassuring, and to your credit you did ask the salient question to the problem of housing etc. It is correct that the Spanish government needs to step up in the same way as our own, and the media needs to shut down the nonsense it's spouting. The age demographic was typical of polite well behaved Brits, but to tar all young people with the same brush is unfair, and to the gutter press and TV they have always been fair game, a bit like psycho alley in Magalluf years ago.
It's a worldwide issue with a lack of affordable housing. Here in Scotland on the Isle of Skye or other tourism areas there's so many homes that are now air bnb's resulting in less houses for sale in these area's. But are the locals chasing the tourists away in their kilts n claymores? Of course not!! They bring money and jobs into the area. We were in Playa Blanca in January and couldn't have been made to feel more welcome 👍
It's not just the canary island that has the problem with people buying holiday homes its been the same in the Yorkshire dales for year pushing the locals out .plus in the dales there so strick on planing it's hard to build new houses .maybe the canary islands should put a small tourist tax on and build property that can't be sold
How come 50, 000 locals marched about the English going there saying we all went to all inclusive holidays and got drunk, and they want more up market holiday makers. Will not ever go there again. They are complaining about cost of living, join the club
You are absolutely right I was there a fortnight to go. We had a fantastic holiday no problem and you’re absolutely right about the last bit you mentioned about respect the culture and their way of life. It’s a shame we can’t get that in England by people who come here .
Put my Spanish to shame David. I wonder where the staff are coming from for the latest 700 room hotel that's just been announced. Overkill?? Keep up the good work. Peter
Main stream media making things worse. It's up to their Government to enforce planning rules and build more affordable houses for the locals. Blame the tourist's it's far easier.
