Picturesque walk indeed. You presented a unique perspective of London and it's great river Thames. This side of the river is raw , natural and not posh with structured banks. Lovely natural beauty alongside the meandering river. Peaceful neighborhoods, eclectic homes and buildings are soothing alongside this path. The bird songs and occasional chugging of the rail carriage made the video absolutely dramatic and dreamy. Thank you so much Mr. Walker for bringing forth this new side of London! 🌞😊💐

I stumbled upon this video and just had to watch. I have done that walk many times in my youth.
I grew up in Chiswick, in a road parallel to Strand on the Green. I went to Strand on the Green primary school in the 60s and Chiswick School in the 70s. In the 80s I lived in Brentford, just off the High Street in the town centre. I moved away in 2001, still on the borough though my social connections are still all in Brentford. I have done that walk many times in my youth. At the start by the station is a pub that used to be called the Grove Park Tavern, now called the Station House. We would start a pub crawl there and finish at the George & Dragon in Brentford, we would have to miss out some f the pubs on the way as there used to be at least 18 on the route.
    Some details about the walk.
8:50 The drive to where Eamon Andrews lived in the 60s
10:27 Number Nought, Strand on the Green. John Thaw and Sheila Hancock used to live there
11;50 The Bulls Head, the first pub that I had a drink in, not necessarily legally.
13:00 The City Barge pub featured in the Beatles film "Help"
17:34 The Bell and Crown pub, at the road end of the pub the current saloon bar was a fish and chip shop called Rapps, the best chippy in the area, when it closed in the late 70s it was absorbed by the pub.
19:00 The Steam Packet Pub, recently reopened as a pub reverting to its old name, had been a Cafe Rouge since the 80s.
19:24 The Fuller Smith and Turner HQ, Fullers sold their brewery at Hogarth roundabout to Asahi and are now just a pubco. The building used to be The Pier House Laundry
21:55 The large brick building to the right used to be the Star and Garter Hotel/Pub closed in the 80s. I had my 21st birthday booze up there.
23:00 The One Over The Ait is a very new and not particularly cheap pub built as part of the development on the old Midland Bank offices site, it was supposed to replace 2 pubs demolished in the development, The Plough and The Wagon & Horses.
29:00 Watermans Park, built on the site of the old gas works, includes the Watermans Arts Centre, the red brick building at the end of the park.
42:52 The controversial multi coloured, multi story car park. Part of the new development currently ripping the heart out of Brentford.
45:50 Just a small part of the huge development in Brentford
47:00 The white building with the turret/tower on top was the Brentford Magistrates Courts, now a fancy restaurant.
47:30 The Magpie & Crown pub, the only building that will escape the developers
48:45 The buildings on the right were built in the 90s, it used to be a field with geese in it.
49:05 The 6 Bells pub, recently reopened as an LGBTQ venue, hence the rainbow markings on the zebra crossing.
50:36 The Northumberland Arms, currently closed. Was previously named Mary O'Riodan's, during the 80s and 90s I played there in a band. Prior to being Mary O'Riodan's the pub was called The Northumberland Arms.
51:25 The site of the George & Dragon pub, closed in the last dozen years.

    Absoletely fabulous!!
As a one time native of the 'other side' of the Thames, I knew nothing of 'the other side of the River' - that is anything beyond 'ammersmith bridge. Even cruising the non tidal Thames doesn't eve hint at what lies beyod the north bank.
Well worth watching the whole sequence - even what must be Brentford. Indeed I never knew how extensive Fuller's brewery is/ was.
    Well done and many thanks.

A very nice walk in a beautiful area! I enjoyed seeing the home of actor Donald Pleasance, OBE. I saw one logo, very late in the walk. The other one I found because of one of the comments, when I watched for the second time. I prefer not to be told, but to find them myself. So the next time I will not read the comments before I have tried to find the logos myself. This was a great walk!

    Hello WW
Awesome walk. We have been to Syon house, we loved it. You walked by a garden centre which we went into and purchased a bird house in the design of Royal Mail box. Syon house has a Canadian connection as they have a picture of Joseph Brant who has Hospital named for him about 10kms from my house and it is in Brant county which is named for him. I not an expert, I think he was have native Canadian and help negotiate a peace treaty with the local tribes. They have a painting of him, he may have visited Syon house or the owner where fans of his.
Was the tide out, and how far up does the tidal wash go? Take care Chris and Sandra of Canada.

      @WatchedWalker  2 роки тому +1

Hello C&S, hope you're both well. Thanks for that info about Syon House, I didn't make it inside on that occasion. And yes, the tide was out, I'm not sure how high it goes, but surely to raise the boats. Someone also told me that before the Thames Barrier, the path by the Thames near the start of the walk would have been under water back then.
