    Excellent video. I've always wanted a 2nd generation Walker but could never find one. I ended up with an early 2nd Generation 3rd Model Dragoon which is a C Series in the early brown Colt box. I found .457 or .454 with 40 grains of 3F Goex like my dragoon the best. I'm going to try the J&D bullets soon.

    VARIABLES Huh Mr OR. I'd be getting my needle files out and opening-up that V-notch in the hammer .. - Plus it might be possible to open the Cap mouths by gently using a shaped wooden dowel or a blunt punch before placing them on the loaded chambers.
    Good work Sir and I love hearing you voicing your thoughts.

      The swaging the caps on a shaped mandrel could work with the splined caps . The only problem could be getting them back off the mandrel, and I dont think it would work on the solid type caps as it would dislodge the forminate.

    You got a good group there considering all the distractions from the cap strike and the long trigger creep, I have never tried a low load in mine as I do not like the long jump to the barrel cone, I find a 50 grn load of Swiss does very well, any more and I tend to get lever drop, but I have shot them out to 100 yds with some good results, I also use a 451 ball in mine. Stay warm! Chris B.

      Add some cornmeal as a filler to take up that extra space and get the ball up close to the forcing cone. Works like a charm.

      "I'm Lazy" I cast or run 454 with 99.9% pure Pb in everything 44, but I have an easy source. I do dump charges or fillers out the back hole, push ball out for belt and mailability inspections every now or then. this is how I noted conicals are not conical with most ram rods after loading. I made a better ramrod tip out of a 40 case and 308 or 30/06 filled with epoxy imprinted or cast with each style of conical point, leaves a nice belt at the waste, keeps it conical. Are you doing your 50 grn BV or BW? I do BV and can not get quite this down the hatch and rotate. I do go close to max charges BV considering rotation.

      @@davefellhoelter1343 I make a complete new rammer with a profiled nose to fit the conicals, I use 50 Grns weighed only for ball with Swiss 3f.

      I reverse engineered cylinder CC or grn BV and deduct the projo BV for a max charge with rotation, "I think?" my notes are 40grn BV ball.
      "I Have" never used real Swiss yet, just my DIY. saving the supper rare in Ca Swiss for dialed in final testing. this is why I do all my BP paper cartridge's and loading traditionally BV as my DIY weights are different corned, pucked or not.
      I LOVE the Smell of BP in the morning! wounder what 50 grns BW is in BV? of Swiss, I never looked THANKS!@@453421abcdefg12345

    Very informative and enjoy how meticulous your preparation is. Could you deepen the hammer “sight” slit to lower the point of aim.

      Could be done. Thing is for me that I sight where the top of the front sight is level with the top of the rear sight. You would need to have the top of the front deep down into the rear notch that way, which might work for some shooters. O.R.

    groups cutting a big hole, Nice! "I know" nothing of this powder black MZ you used, zero, nada. Do tell please? I did finally get commercially manufactured AMP, at great costs, very slim pickings for these things in the Ca. got me into DIY

      What does the AMP stand for, because I was told that the Black MZ is being made again under a different name but can't remember the name. Yup, its getting tougher. O.R.

    Hi! I'm a Bulgarian. Maybe because of my English but I don't understand what Colt 2 generation means. Where is the difference with Colt Walker?

    • @oldranger3044
      @oldranger3044  3 місяці тому +1

      Colt made the original ones in the 1800’s. Using the word generation means done again, or repeated. In this case Colt started again (2nd time) to make these guns in the early 1970’s. More complete information can be found at capandballrevolvers.com. Hope this helps. O.R.
