Jesse has eidetic memory. He was able to learn walt's formula not by learning the science, but merely by watching him after only a few sessions. When he first tried to do it alone he couldnt reach walt's purity level, but He still made pretty much the best glass anyone could get on the street, already. Then you see walt- a bungling liar that cant even formulate an air-tight alibi, didnt know when to quit, and let his megalomania take control of his judgement.
