Brilliant! Thanks for posting this. My great uncle Manuel Alvarez flew jugs and has since passed on. I was very fond of him and we always connected over airplanes. The D model with the bubble was his favorite.
One of the safest fighters of WW2. The Jug could take a savage beating from the best of the Luftwaffe and still get it's pilot back to base. The P51 might have been slightly better overall in performance but it couldn't take anywhere near the beating a P47 could endure. One round into the P51's liquid cooled Merlin and it was over. P47's were known to have cylinders shot out of it's Double Wasp radial engine and still make it back to base.
As soon as I saw the cloud coming up I knew the vsi would jump up, it's hard to see the updraft through the camera but I bet you can feel it . Beautiful Machine
John! I was just reminiscing and thought I'd try UA-cam and preston! You used to come into our little antique shop in Oak Ridge! That was about 2000. You were just healing up from jumping out of a perfectly good airplane. I still have my favorite Christmas card hanging over my desk! I'm sure you remember Santa in his P47. Great to see you so healthy! I smile every time I think of you!
Hi Dave - Very nice to hear from you. Still drinking out of some nice little demi port glasses I bought there. Yes, still out here. Also racing a lot in Europe. I'll stop by next time I'm up that way. Thanks for checking in.
My favorite aircraft. A girlfriend's father flew a P-47 in Europe during WWII, painted with the black & white invasion stripes. Robert Johnson's book, "Thunderbolt" is an excellent read.
Thanks for the cool video! Do you remember meeting a crop duster pilot at the Reno, Nv airport in December 2013? Im pretty sure it was you that I met. Can't be too many P-47 owners named John! Thanks again!
grandad of the warthog,,still has it,'d love to see spielberg do a move featuring a jug squadron, a la saving private ryanalso be cool if the local air regs might allow them to di a few 400mph dives, catching it on cam too
I actually stood next to this aircraft in the Tennessee air museum near pigeon forge I think there was a mig 17 and it was fun there would go back again.
...I'd say, that title belongs to the P-51D: the P-47 was more like the "BATTERING RAM" of WW2 fighters- THE P-47 WAS BIG, HEAVY, AND IT HIT REALLY HARD...(!)
Yep my dad helped win the war with this plane. Sad most are gone. He was under lt noman holt. Harry j wildhaber he passed at 91 yrs old. Miss his talking on planes. He had to jump out once hid in a haystack for 3 days. Lucky for him seen a jeep coming he was dying of thirst. It was the americans
Dear Sir. Thank you for your beautiful video. I'm going to send as a link your video on IL2 forum to show people how good P-47 was in climbing. Could you be so kind and tell us what block-version exactly is? Is it D-28 or something else? I still know not much about differences between D model versions so I would like to be sure. Best regards HOLY
@@jshoff725 Thnx for quick answer sir. Is this beauty was fueled as full on Main tank and almost full on Aux tank? I would like to see you this conversation sir. forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/44778-p-47-flight-model-discussion/page/6/#comments
@@303HOLYONE During this flight it was likely nearly full on the main but less than 25gal on aux. It's normal to fly to an airshow and burn the aux down to 20 or so and then do the show on the main, usually topped off since the Thunderbolt just doesn't care. Thanks for the interest.
It would be great if when you bought the WWII planes that they had the peepers available so if you wanted to use the guns for shooting targets and what not you could.
Just bloody WONDERFUL! My Dream WW2 Fighter! Thank you for the brilliant experience Mate!

Crazy how we thought of a way to get 8 tons to move gracefully
...that sums it up pretty well...(!)
Excellent video of formation flying in the P47D Thunderbolt!

God she’s in spectacular shape. The buzz of that wasp is like music to my ears :)
I love the old films of big formations of P-47's and gun camera strafing Germany.

Beautiful film! love the P47 bubble top.

I too have flown this plane thousands of times,
In warthunder
You can go up a level now and try it on DCS World!
@@bowser515 Yep I have only 20 flight hours logged in the jug (DCS) still learning all of her engine management temperaments.
If you're ever in Oklahoma, I'd love to meet you!! The P-47 is my favorite aircraft and I have yet to see one in person..

Nice pre-flight intro. Liked seeing checking the mags. When flying in formation, how do you handle the wash from hun hunter?

If I ever win the lottery 😁
Imagine owning a P47, then finding out that your friend owns one too. What are the chances.

Is that canopy electricly controlled?
Yes :) It was like that during production too

Any chance you could mic yourself up and talk us through pre-flight, start-up, etc...?
I believe there are several videos on here that have that. Perhaps we'll do that someday. Thanks.
brilliant!
Wow
The p47 is a beast. It is fast, heavy, big, devastating ground attack as well as fighter plane, powered by the great r2800 engine
Great!
