Riding as a passenger was an experience in mega decibel noise levels, especially when it was a training flight and the plane was empty of sound absorbing freight. On take off, all 12,000 HP was often used. The thunderous sound of 12,000 HP was not only ear splitting but you could feel the power of the four engines in your body. I remember feeling my teeth vibrate during an over gross weight take off from an air base in the Panama Canal Zone. Fighter pilots are seated with their head and shoulders above the fuselage shell. This gives them a 360 degree view. This would probably account for the relative quiet of a fighter planes cockpit.

It's a blue position light. Pause at 10:10 and you can clearly see another one in the same sopt on the right wing.
