how can you hate on someone succeeding after they worked for 14 years for it? can't deny i'm jealous of what he gets to do but maybe that's the problem for other men... they can't get over their jealousy and it makes them insecure
"How can you hate Joe Biden for being president? Hes wanted this his whole life and hes been doing this politics thing for 40 years, he deserves his flowers!" Is the level of stupidity you're operating on.
Because they don't find him funny. That's very common in comedy. Whenever you see a comedian bomb, the crowd usually becomes aggressive. Say what you want about the guys success and handwork, but he's not a good comedian. He uses crowd work that most of the time relies on the audience member to be the one coming up with the joke and punchline. His fan base is mostly female, also for a reason. Women will find him funnier because he's good-looking and charismatic. Guys will find him less funny for that exact reason. Being a comedian is the one job where you have to make yourself appear worse off than the audience, or they'll hate you. Nobody goes to the successful guy to hear funny life stories. They go to the downtrodden. Anyway, that's my personal opinion, he's been given easy laughs by women most his laugh which has heavily influenced his understanding of comedy
The hate for him definitely comes from insecurity. Lots of people work for decades and never see his level of success so they look for some excuse as to why he made it and they didn't. The easy answer is "he's just a pretty boy only appealing to girls"
There's a saying that goes "it takes 10 years to become an overnight sensation." @@MN-jw7mmand what makes you think that? because of the way he looks? Guy worked on this carrier for over 14 years if that's not hard work I don't know what is + he grew up in Ohio and was a farmer so yes he has worked a physical job

Lol yes you do. He is 28. I was a track mid distance runner my whole life and at 28 I balooned when i stopped working out. I was not even eating a huge amount. Its silly to think otherwise.
I think his issue is the same for child actors with successful actor parents. Unless you are the best at it, nobody will beleive that the hard work you put in had anything to do with your success. For the child actor, no matter how good you are everyone will believe that you are successful because of your parents. And for him, no matter how good he is or how hard he's worked, everyone will be convinced he's successful because he's attractive. The fact that his main audience is women and the fact that his attractiveness is main thing those women mention about him, helps to prove that right. Do I find him funny, not really, but I don't mind listening to him for a little. But if I'm being completely honest I think his success is mostly due to women finding him attractive. But I'm not knocking him for it, whatever works for you. Plenty of men are successful because women find them attractive and most women are successful because both men and women find them attractive. It's just human nature nothing wrong with it so there's no reason to act like it isn't true.
I remember watching tiktoks from Matt and thinking "oh he's that guy from Wild'n out". He's been working on his craft for many years, it's fair to not like him but pretend that he doesn't deserve his success is pure denial.
Right😂 and to be perfectly honest i dont see an issue with him going with the flow naturally. And in my opinion his comedy is not that bad great opening act
I dont know who he is and i'm 39, but from hearing the things that he talks about I can somehow relate to it, because girls also discriped me as "handsome" a lot and I can 100% confirm that the whole "just copy stupid stereotype situations and make it sound dumb by mocking it" is a very good way to break the ice, because it's all about creating an excuse for interaction. You can ask the most intimit things if you just say "what are you girls always saying?" before it and based on how she responds you know if you can score or if she is not interested. I mean i would feel sorry for the "not a pilot" guy, but talking with her i might ask her the same thing to follow it up with "I'm also not a pilot, so if you want a pilot I'm not your guy" and I will INSTANDLY know if she was thinking about me having her or not. She is unsure? Just look at her and say "I'm sorry if i said something wrong... you're just so beautiful and i really like you" so you just overflow her brain with "happy thoughts" that her mind will tell her "do it... it's a good idea... he makes you happy and he is good looking... give it a try". Dont hate the player... hate the game. I Learned this from a friend who got a girl at a club but we changed location and i asked him "are you not sad that we left?" and he was like "nah... i just do my thing... i find another one" AND HE DID. Sure you need the looks or money (that can also buy you looks) but in the end having game is key. You cant score if you dont shoot
Not really - he tapped into a market that are the dumbest consumer group on earth Women follow fads and will buy things because it's a thing vs them actually liking it. Some men do this too - but a good example are Taylor Swift and Beyonce concerts. Look at the machine that is created by women who flock to celebrity.
I think people are being unfair due to his looks because Matt’s been on the grind for years. He just hit it big now because he got that magical TikTok hype. I’m happy for the guy!
The guy isn't funny. But in my opinion, he isn't unfairly treated. Compare him to someone like Sinbad, another unfunny comedian who gets alot of hate but not as much online because he isn't on there as much. Matt began his career on TV but his real career started taking off from TikTok, because he's on the internet, of course he will get more hate. But he's getting a crazy amount of love from his female fan base anyway. I'm guessing women just want him to continue without men judging him
He’s a talented comedian that’s been doing stand up since he was a teenager. I’m glad he’s getting the recognition he deserves, although I don’t really think it’s for the right reasons.
@@LessGo7921 I’ve seen all his specials. I started with the “Matthew Steven Rife” and it’s arguably his best one. My husband and I thought it was hilarious. The red flags was still good, bc he’s so very quick-witted, but no where near the same level, which idrt it was supposed to be.
I’m a black mid-20s man and I think he’s hilarious. I like his interaction with the crowd and I don’t think I’ve ever thought his stuff was catered to women personally, more just walking the line of being cancelled and saying things that not everyone would say but maybe think.
I just seen Matt perform in Jacksonville, I think my favorite part about his whole style is his quick witty responses. And the way he handles hecklers is great. He did say he loves to see support from fellow men and is striving to get a bigger male fan base. Can say for sure I’m a fan.
I found Matt through UA-cam from just searching for stand up. Guy is great with crowd work, is very self aware and is genuinely funny imo, deserves all the attention he has gotten.
Just have to say, his part about crowd work being the hardest would be ridiculed by all comedians. To them that is like pregame warmup. It’s much harder to make people laugh when you’re explaining your fucked up worldview or thoughts than the easy to make jokes about someone’s looks job or ethnicity.
I found him through TikTok and he has fantastic crowd work and nearly perfect timing. If all people can complain about is his supermodel looks then that's still great for him.
that’s the thing tho, they’re not. they’re basically calling him unfunny cause he’s just attractive and why women (and the men they’re dating at the time) sell out the shows. it’s like baggage, because of them complaining about that they’re also saying his shit ain’t funny.
I think hes witty and works the crowd (which is a small portion of the show) but Im not a fan of his scripted stuff. So it makes sense on how he blew up on tiktok with those short moments with the crowd
Glad to see other men in the comments who can see Matt for who he really is, a hard working man who has grinded hard to get to where hes at today. I do agree that a lot of his material FEELS like it's gauged toward women, this however doesnt take away from the fact that he is genuinely funny. I find myself laughing at Matt's stuff at least 2-3 times more than I ever do at Sam Morril's stuff, and he's seemingly exploding in popularity.
Eh. His material isn't for me but some of the comedians I have found genuinely funny aren't buzzed about by a large(r) fanbase. Much like music there is a business way to approach things given what you have to work with. And if he draws a crowd with mostly women and knows how to work them (and sell his content) then he's doing pretty well for himself. Some comics aren't really stand up masters but express themselves better in writing for TV or movies.
Bruh, youve nailed here. Dude is genuinely funny. Is it geared for chix? Sure, some of it. But thats just a dude playing to his strengths. And the men on here that arent trying to make up for their small dicks, all love this dude. Bc, hes actually funny. Fuck yall, talking shit about any comedian whos up there doing there thing. That shit is terrifying. Anyone who has the balls to get up and try, has my respect. But this kid, he has my respect bc he is actually funny.
Men aren't jealous by nature. Some might be sure, but mostly, we respect another men grind. We cheer for a dude when he reaches success fairly as long as he stays humble about it and don't forget where he comes from.
this guy knows what he's doing and uses his unusually good looks and charisma with women to fill a niche in comedy. sure, i'd go with chappelle, jeselnik, burr or mcdonald anyday, but that doesn't make this guy less impressive. respect the hustle.
@@DrewZeppyou have an anime pfp on UA-cam, you have 0 room to talk about a dudes good looks which you don’t have 😂 clown. Matt could sleep with your mother if he wanted.
Hopefully Rife is at least bisexual. He still has the face and hair of a child, which could potentially increase the fraction of men his age who are attracted to him, and decrease the respective women his age.
The reason I think Matt Rife is funny is because a lot of his material comes from his audience. Comedians will sometimes ask questions and use some people as an example of how life is but Matt often times asking his audience multiple questions and get them more engage. Doing that makes it easier for him because he can improvise a joke and most of the time, everyone laughs, including the person he's making fun of.

Here's the rub that a lot of people don't get: people are hating on him because he is being shoved in the faces of everyone on earth. He attracts a vapid and stupid audience who are going to see him because he is popular, not because they enjoy comedy. It's literally the recipe that ruins an industry by switching the content from what is real to what sells. Both standup comedy and podcasting are slowly failing - esp once this bubble pops of comedians doing arenas and world tours. It's not sustainable and not improving the comedy game - it's merging itself with social media to become a money-generating machine.
@rickeykoga2312 this feels like a very one sided take. Comedy is in a great place for women and minorities specifically because of social media giving them exposure they wouldn't have had before due to being too "niche" for general audiences. Facts. 💯 Bro is out there hustling and crushing it
I think his issue is the same for child actors with successful actor parents.

So why THE FXCK do you think all comedians who have worked hard for a certain amount of years deserve international fame and success? You do not go into comedy to be a millionaire. You do not become a comedian to be famous. It is a grind, you will suck d for years of your life. I've listened to 1000s of hours of comedy podcasts. Are they all liars or something? You ever watch kill tony? Hundreds of comedians show up to get their name called out of a hat to do a 1 minute set. Every time, hundreds of people you will never know or hear of. People who have been doing comedy for years.
@@WalkingPaceWP Actually.. the majority of kill tony comedians are people that have been doing it for less than 10 years.. usually around 5.. or less. Btw.. The reason successful comedians USED TO BE in their 30's and 40's was because of no social media presence. You are literally "Spitting facts" like a 3rd grader that thinks he knows something. The reality is that times have changed.. Comedians that want to be successful have switched over to social media.. Do you think that has changed how quickly they become known?? Or are you stupid enough to believe that wouldn't change how society views comedy?
@@WalkingPaceWP Also love that fact you completely changed topics. Now it's about successful comedians and the 1% instead of how long 14 years is in comedy.
His crowd work is funny af. I’ve never heard him do an actual standup set though.
Aging like fine wine lmao Now that his new special is sitting at a Rife rating of 4.9/10 on IMBD and 16% on RT
It was good imo

I was waiting for him to unbuckle his belt but he started to crack a joke, and it was about DV. Total turn off. It was more like a comedy show than TikTok edits. Utter disappointment. 1/10

Nah this dude put in the work for YEARS and deserves all the success that comes.
Banging your head against a wall or shutting in the corner for years doesn't make you a good comedian.

Dawg I think this man IS funny tho. Regardless if he was cute or not, he's got amazing timing when doing crowd control. Makes me sad that people call him unfunny so often 😭

That’s funny to you? I know comedy is subjective but this guy reminds me of Amy Schumer of funny

@@Seyanoo I literally couldn't think of a worse comparison😂
I feel like most male comedians are funny because they dont understand women. Matt is actually relating to women and that makes it more funny for them.
What makes women laugh is different than what makes men laugh.
Matt stays in his lane. Nothing wrong with that.
Okay but he’s done a few things to make women uncomfortable. Let’s not make it seem like he’s perfectly fine just because he’s approached by many women or can be funny. But he’s definitely gotten too comfortable in that aspect by thinking he can push things farther than he should sometimes.
Lol no. He just uses woman to his advantage, other comedians don't have that ability.
Stand up often feels like a boys club, but with Matt's vibe I would probably feel more welcome.
Ah the dane cook complex. Can't wait to unpack this bad boy.
13:43 bro read out griffy’s comment 😭
Hell yea Griffy 🤣🤣🤣
Nah, Matt's funny as fuck with great crowd work, and every stand-up comic in the podcast space is giving him his props.
The vast majority of complaints I see are... men aged 30+. Calm down, guys.
probably makes them jelly seeing their wives hyperventilating for the pretty boy. i don't blame them but they should have a problem with their wives not him.

Never heard of him before and it doesn't seem like my type of comedy but he seems very hard working so I can only be happy for him for his success. I think it's well-deserved.
Nah he’s genuinely funny. Nobody is going to like 100% everything he does, but he’s really funny
First guy wasn't laughing because he was jealous. Not because the joke wasn't funny.
it was kind of funny to be fair but most jokes aint funny at your expense🤷🏽♂️ so its understandable
I don't have Tik Tok, but I've seen this guy's stand up. He's pretty funny. I'm middle-aged and have never seen him live, so it isn't just sex appeal. He's clever. It seems to me that he deserves the success.
I also thought Matt Rife was this generations Dane Cook and I dissmissed him. But then I saw all the specials, crowd work and podcasts... He is amazing and deserves the success he worked for for years. His good looks are just an obstacle if anything. (also as a reference point, I'm not a teenage girl :) Grew up with Burr, Chappelle, Attell, CK, Rock, Gervais, Carlin, Seinfeld, Sloss, Tosh... )
At least Dane cook had a personality. Matt's gotta be the most vapid comic out since Brendan Schaub
He's funnier than Dane.

Would love to see an updated version of this video talking about his recent controversy!!

What? You mean the controversy of him actually being being funny now instead of simply catering to the women who lust over him in order to make them happy? 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Being impressed by a comedians crowd work is like being amazed that an NBA player can do a layup
that is pretty true cant even lie.. dude is a pro comedian lmao
Nah actually.. it's not.. Most comedians have 0 improv skills.. Being a comedian is literally doing tours to refine a specific script to make people laugh with stories you have written down.. Crowd work is the same shit as freestyling. You think all rappers can freestyle? No. obviously you have no clue about the comedy game.
@@Brandon-vd7er my point is that crowd work is gay and not impressive on any level. Crowd work clips are for brain dead women to scroll on IG reels
@@Brandon-vd7er also it's not like freestyle hip-hop at all. Comedians have like 20 hack jokes loaded for almost every generic scenario they hear on a nightly basis.
@@Iam36ty5 Lmfao.. Yes.. those are called writtens in freestyle. You must believe that all the rappers just hop on the mic and spit straight from the head? Damn to be that naive.. Wow i can't believe you don't see the similarities between improv and freestyle.
Well he has confidence he doesn’t steal jokes kinda glad he is where he is
He’s an entertainer, he doesn’t have to have a traditional comedy show to entertain people. I enjoy his video clips. He makes people happy, that’s better than making them simply laugh.
Matt's put his time in. If you watched Wild n Out then you'd see he's been dragged through the mud and still stuck around and cracked jokes. Seeing his success makes me proud for him. If your masculinity is so fragile that you can't laugh at a handsome guy's jokes, a craft he's honed for years, then quietly respect the hustle.
Stop overanalyzing. Some people don't find him funny.
No, it's not about "fragile masculinity". This isn't Women's Studies.
Don’t tell me what to do
So being born with a strong jawline is now a well honed craft?...interesting
The problem is he isn't funny. He has audience of just women who find him hot. It's not that deep.
If he's successful due to women paying for his shows - more power to him.
Is he a good comedian? Not really.
@@12NiBer12comedy is subjective though, no need to watch. I can easily avoid his Content
Besides a few individuals, most comedians respect him. They make jokes, but the man sells tickets. Die hard comedy buffs (non-comedians) call him fake and all that, but he isn't. I don't like his comedy but it doesn't downplay what he's achieved. He's a comedian whether people like it or not.
So according to you, ticket sales make a comedian. Got it.

@@pertsonvelts1699 Hows it useless does he not do comedy at comedy clubs or not.
