    What is a Service Dog?
A Service Dog is any dog Trained to perform Tasks to help an individual with a disability.
What’s the difference between an Emotional Support Dog and a Service Dog?
Emotional Support Animals do not require training. They are not allowed in public places that don’t allow pets. They are not Service Animals.
    What Tasks does Dakota Perform?
Dakota is a 𝘔𝘦𝘥𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘭 Alert and response dog. She is for psychiatric and medical/ physical purposes.
Her tasks consist of but are not limited to: Anxiety/ Ptsd alerts, dissociation alerts, guide work (during a ptsd episode), Deep Pressure therapy, Opening and Closing Doors, interfering with self harm, Finding help (normally leading me to my family if I enter an episode away from them. She’s trained to find a family member and nudge them), Blocking and covering (creating space between myself and other people).

Melissa Q thank you! She is in training to become a PTSD alert dog for me, but in the UK they have to do tests before being aloud in public so currently she’s only a ESA and I understand that because I’m not stupid and I’m not going to take an untrained unpredictable ESA into a place with a trained service dog that could get distracted and off task!

One time I had to go to the shop and I wasn’t feeling great, so I took Priddy and asked the security if I could bring her in. I said she isn’t a service dog but she helps me in crowded spaces and he said yes, I was in and out in 5 mins and she just walked along beside me, when I stopped she sat and she stayed in a tight heel. We came across a SDiT who lunged at my ESA! Priddy looked I said “focus” and she kept going.

Okay since literally no one in the comments seem to have a comment on this:
Sorry but the girl who put her SD in harms way is not brave. What she did was wrong and super upsetting. I don’t care if there’s a fake service dog there, I don’t want to see Venus get hurt because of this persons arrogance. the guy wasn’t being mean to her, she didn’t even try to educate him. She put her own dog in DIRECT harms way, he lunged right at Venus? He was right in her face and she didn’t even move away? Why would you do that? “Thats not a service dog” not even educating him, while putting the dog in direct harms way. Literally did absolutely nothing productive. There’s so much wrong with this picture. Im just really irritated by this now, it has triggered me. I’m not going to say this person doesn’t deserve their dog but they certainly need to sit back and re-evaluate what they did in their video and I hope they learn from it and hope they won’t put Venus in harms away again. I don’t know about you but if there were a clear aggressive dog literally a clothing rack away from my SD and me I would go to the whole other half of the store OR LEAVE. Its what a mature and logical handler would do. Heck, even report them to the front desk. I’m very disappointed, please don’t do this to your dogs. If you see a “fake” do not go up to them if you have YOUR DOG with you. DO NOT PUT YOUR SERVICE DOG IN HARMS WAY.
Had Venus gotten attack she wouldn’t be able to work for weeks or worse, ever again. It would be the handlers fault completely in that situation. If someone followed you and harassed you that’s different. Again for the people in the back, DO NOT. PUT YOUR SERVICE DOG. IN HARMS WAY.
Thank you for coming to my TedTalk.

Jason and Julie Smith I don’t need to tell you my medical condition and why I need a service dog. Dogs are capable to alert to diabetes, seizures, hypoglycemia, and more from that far down. It probably isn’t a service dog but you never know. It could be for PTSD. It’s not polite to go around saying a certain dog is a fake when it very well could be real. I hate fakes as well because they make us look bad and can cause trouble for our true service dogs. That still doesn’t mean you should go around saying bad things about other people’s dogs.

Agree with no judging based on size or breed. My daughter was hospitalized for a couple months for a severe bipolar event that left her catatonic. One of the nurses brought in her teacup chihuahua and it was the first and only living creature that my daughter could respond to for the first two weeks. The nurse explained that for many mentally ill folks the tiny dogs are non threatening and offer much non judgmental support, the cuddle factor is life saving, literally. We have always had dogs, cats, and farm animals but that tiny dog connected with my daughter in a way other dogs did not. My daughter recovered to the point of not needing a support dog but if she had not, I would have found one and worked to train the dog so my daughter could reenter life. That little dog and her owner offered a perfect therapy to help my young adult daughter on her path to recovery. Your videos offer a valuable service for folks learning to navigate in public with support dogs. You have a calm sensible approach to handling the issues you face. The large service dog organizations offer that one on one training but I am not aware of any training for folks who need emotional support dogs, even as these dogs offer their owners the chance to live life as full as possible. Good job young lady! and have your foot looked at, you may be dealing with a fracture needing a walking boot for best recovery (retired critical care nurse here). ((hugs))

NOTHING wrong with ESA owners. My dog is a registered TRAINED ESA he does just as much for me as he would if he was a service animal. He provides support and alerts me to prevent panic attacks and anxiety attacks. I'm also claustrophobic which sends me into a panicked state and has given me convulsions that can lead to seizures. I'm not prone to seizures but if my panic level rises I get convulsions that keep me from being able to walk normally. My issues aren't severe enough for a service dog so my dog is a registered ESA and preforms tasks as alerting me before panic attacks start, my sign is shaking of my hands, and elevated breathing, he also leans against my legs (he's a big boy) so I can walk easier when the convulsions happen, he also does DPT which helps level my breathing so I don't get convulsions. ESAs are JUST as important as service dogs. Just because it's an ESA doesn't mean thye don't have serious issues. I've met so many ESAs that couldn't be service dogs because the issues weren't severe enough. If I was prone to FULL on seizures he'd be a service dog. DO NOT hate on ESAs just because of stupid people like this. SHAME ON YOU

"A Therapy Dog is someone's pet that has been tested for its social temperament, trained to be well behaved and registered with a therapy dog organization. A therapy dog provides comfort to people in nursing homes, hospitals, schools or other institutions. Most therapy dog owners are volunteers. Therapy dogs are NOT service dogs and do not have public access rights.
Emotional Support Animals (ESA) provide comfort to their owner simply by being present. They have not been specifically trained for any particular task. Although they are grouped with service dogs when it comes to housing and aircraft laws, emotional support dogs do NOT have public access rights.
According to ADA laws, to be a Service Dog, their handler must have a disability and the dog must be specifically trained to alleviate such disability. Having a mental illness is an impairment, but being unable to function on a minimal level because of a mental illness is a disability. Psychiatric service dogs are trained to do something to help with the person's disability. In other words, the dog allows the handler to overcome or improve his/her ability to function. A PSD (psychiatric service dog) might for instance counterbalance a handler because he/she is dizzy because of medication, interrupt panic attacks or OCD behaviors, turn lights on, etc." -- this is according to Medical Mutts which trains service dogs.
So, your dog is more like a service dog than an actual ESA. But I agree with your main point that she shouldn't look down upon people who do have an ESA, just for the fact that they have an ESA and not a service dog like she does.

@@haleyclark990 He could be yes but it was less stressful to make him an ESA than a Psychoatric service dog because then i'd have to make an appointment with a Psychiatrist and go through an evaluation with my dog and all that, which is how they do it where I live and going to Psychiatrists always make me have more anxiety. I see a psychiatrist who is a family friend so I see her on non office hours because it's less stressful for me. I saw her a few times in office and talked to her about Psychiatry service animals and she agreed but there is evaluations we both have to go through and sine you said ESA's don't necessarily have to be trained it works best for my dog, he's very shy around people so that doesn't make him a great candidate for service animal. I have a Medical Alert Service Dog who alerts me to irregular heart beats (keeping me off the floor as much as possible) and he too was growled at and then lunged at by another "service dog" at, of coarse, Walmart. He was a little reactive for a couple months (he would shy away from other dogs) but I think he now feeds more off my reactions to other dogs when I see them. I have some pretty bad social anxiety and I still get pretty stressed when seeing others dogs and attempt to keep him sheltered from any possible bad situations. I don't know why you can judge the Lady and say that her dog is not a Service Dog. I did not see anything that made me think the dog could not have been a Service Dog. Just because the dog looks at other dogs, or other people doesn't make the dog, not a Service Dog.
My Service Dog is trained to watch, all of our surroundings and alert me if she sees any approaching people, animals, vehicles, etc, that I may not have seen, that could be a possible trigger/danger/obstetrical to avoid etc.
My Service Dog is a chihuahua, and has been my Service Dog for over 8 years. If I was in Walmart using one of the scooters, she would be either between my feet, in her carrier in the basket, or possibly in my lap which ever is more convenient to me at the time. She would not be walking beside me. If I was pushing a cart, she would be on her cushion in the child seat of the cart. If I was using my walker, her carrier would be attached to the seat of my walker. If I was using my own scooter she would be either in her carrier strapped to the back of my scooter seat, in her carrier, between my feet, just standing between my feet without the carrier, or in my lap.
She is most definitely a Service Dog., and is trained for PA and for several tasks, and work.
Just 2 weeks ago, I had major surgery, and had to stay in the hospital for 3 days. She stayed with me, until they started prepping me for the surgery, then she waited with my parents until after the surgery and recovery. As soon as I got to the room I was going to be staying in my parents brought my Service Dog, into my room, she was in her carrier, attached to the seat of my walker, and the walker was pushed up to my hospital bed, so that she was close enough that I could reach her, if I needed to and she could get out of the carrier and onto my bed if she needed to alert me, because my respiration got to low, or if I was having a night terror, flash back, panic attach, dissociative episode etc., and she could ground me or calm me if needed.
When I thought she might be thirsty I offered her water from her water bottle, when it was her meal time, I just set her food bowl inside her carrier and she ate, and when I went to the bathroom, I used my walker to get into the bathroom and then I laid a potty pad on the floor and told her to go potty, and she pottied on the potty pad, while I was using the bathroom, and I would throw the potty pad in the trash on the way out of the bathroom.
If I was setting in the chair in my hospital room she was setting, or laying beside me.
She watched every person that came into my room, she watched every person that we passed, or that passed us in the hall. When I had to have tests done in radiology, she stayed in the protected room with the radiology techs. Most people don't even realize she is there, because she is so quiet, and stays very calm, and doesn't move around much. The nurses and lab techs etc kept telling me they couldn't believe she stayed in the room with me for 3 days, and was calm and quiet the entire time, and never had any accidents, or acted like she wanted to go outside to potty.
I trained her to use a potty pad or potty patch, that was in the bathroom of where ever we are staying, and for her to go potty when I was goin to potty and to go to the bathroom by herself, and use the potty pad, if I am hurting to much to get out of bed, or if we are on a cruise etc.

Any store that allows pets isn’t service dog friendly. I see signs like, service dog and pet friendly at places like Lowe’s and shit? And it always pisses me off because allowing pets, who don’t have to be trained and may be aggressive, into the same spaces as service dogs puts them and their handlers in danger

    • @chronicallycori2571
      @chronicallycori2571 5 років тому +10

Pet friendly places aren't necessarily the problem. It's that people don't train their dogs. ALL dogs, pets included, need basic training, including how to behave around other dogs. If your dog doesn't behave properly, you should be aware you shouldn't even go to pet friendly places or dog parks if you aren't willing to train your dog. Pets would be less of an issue if PEOPLE obeyed proper laws and trained their dogs to a certain standard before taking them anywhere beyond the home. And the other problem is the store owners, managers, and workers. If they are going to allow pets, but also be service dog friendly, they need to understand that means asking people with poorly controlled and poorly behaving dogs to LEAVE the premises. So the idea of a pet friendly place is wonderful, but the way it's put into play is awful and poorly executed.

As someone who handles a SDit, I have to disagree. I love stores like Lowe's because it enables me to train in a distracted environment, just as PetSmart does. I know when I enter these stores, that it's MY dog's responsibility not to respond to other dogs. It's hard, but it's part of his training. I also know that people will have dogs in some places, and I prepare for it. Walmart is one of those places where I know people just bring their dogs. I choose to focus on myself, and my dog. I don't get upset with other people who have dogs, because I see it as my responsibility. Even if they approach my dog, I explain he's training, and I just go with it. Patience and kindness go a long way. Most people aren't out to cause stress or difficulty. You can pleasantly educate people without becoming angry about it.
I had a man, a human man, bark at my dog in Walmart. I was kind of okay with it after a moment since my dog didn't respond. Gave me confidence in my ability to handle him :)

ESAs do not have public access rights like service dogs do. They cannot enter shops or restaurants that do not already allow pets, meaning any companion animal. ESAs are essentially just companion animals that provides comfort to an owner that has mental disorder. Thus with a doctors note from a psychiatrist/psychologist , their companion animal can be labeled an ESA and thus bypass no pet rules for only transportation and hospitality/residency. In no way are they service dogs. Service dogs are protected under the ADA the way they are because they are medical equipment first and foremost.

rate yes it's the law! I'm not dumb I know it's the law. My problem with her is all the extremely bitchy comments she makes about them just for the hell of it. It's one thing to feel indifferent because someone isn't following the rules. It's quite another to drag on those individuals AND their Animals based on that ESA status. She has made it increasingly clear that she thinks lower of ESA animals and their owner!

i have an ESA dog, and it really pisses me off when people treat them the same as service dogs and think they have the same laws. ESA dogs aren’t trained enough to know how to react when seeing a service dog and aren’t required to stay quiet, relaxed ect. therefore shouldn’t be allowed in places that ONLY service dogs/guide dogs are allowed. a ESA isn’t the same as a service dog

  • @Royalsprincess1

I will state the dog might be an emotional support animal. There are ESA's for PTSD just like you, just some people dont need a service dog, they just need an ESA just to keep them company, cause they cant be alone or something.
Also Autistic people need ESA animals. I know that for a fact as I'm autistic, some use ESA therapy dogs, that are allowed to go out and about with them and they help give the individual some stability. Helps with social anxiety and things..They are legit dogs, but it doesnt excuse for the owner to be a stalking brat or anything like that.
So maybe that dog is a legit ESA with a horrible personality owner.
But autistic esa animals I see the dogs are WELL behaved and the individual with the dog usually has social anxiety and they usually might do something you dont like but they completely dont mean no harm or no ill-manner towards you. They simply DONT KNOW any better.
also the way the dog acted at 10:30 when you ran into it wasnt bad. it didnt bark, or lunge, or growl, it had its ears perk up.
    Esa dogs arent therapy dogs.

@@lexiegodbout I've seen plenty where I live. They do behave like Dakota. but of course that lady is legit following you.
So I guess it's different, or people are more laxed where I live.
I've honestly never seen a service animal issue like I've seen you video catch on your channel. The mall incident was the first video I saw (recommended) but I never had seen a dog in person do that. You also do shed light on the epidemic that is just as dangerous as medicine, which is taking your house pet, and putting it in a vest, and taking it wherever you go just because you want your pet with you, and it can cause harm to an animal that clearly does have a job to do something life saving for their handler, and these "vested house pets" can distract these trained animals and could lead to issues with their handlers.
ESA animals I'd at least say are trained, for the most part, you find untrained service dogs I feel though just as much too.
so I guess it all depends on the dog and person, and depends on what you have experienced. I went to a school for disabilities as I've got one myself, but it was clearly light shedding how many had ESA, some had service animals, but the ESA were treated the same as service animals at least where my school was and where I live.

My issues aren't severe enough for a service dog so my dog is a registered ESA and performs tasks as alerting me before panic attacks start, my sign is shaking of my hands, and elevated breathing, he also leans against my legs (he's a big boy) so I can walk easier when the convulsions happen, he also does DPT which helps level my breathing so I don't get convulsions. ESAs are JUST as important as service dogs. Just because it's an ESA doesn't mean they don't have serious issues. I've met so many ESAs that couldn't be service dogs because the issues weren't severe enough. If I was prone to FULL on seizures he'd be a service dog. DO NOT hate on ESAs just because of stupid people like this. SHAME ON YOU

" The girl said "F you" and walked out, I know this doesn't really make sense, but this is a true story, and it kinda made me upset because why are people bringing in Fake Service animals? It is very dangerous to real service animals they should make a law for it, Where if you did you have to pay a fine for it, sorry again if this doesn't make sense.
    Questions:
1: how do you make your dog to stop pulling on a leash?
2: how do you make your dog to focus on you all the time?
3: Do you have to register service dogs?

I don’t know if you are still training her or what, but she shouldn’t be that distracted when you are out in public. At one point, before I stopped watching because the number of ads in your video are obnoxious, she was looking underneath you to see the other side of the scooter you were riding.
From what I’ve seen of your videos, you’re just another young Munchie who is trying to get away with taking your dog everywhere. Your dog is an ESA just like that tiny dog riding on the other person’s cart.

Dakota is in training and like she said Dakota recently went though a traumatic experience service dogs are allowed to look around they aren’t robots they are living beings too also her state probably allows service dogs in training to have public access my state does Dakota is not an ESA so please get a little educated before commenting on videos

Jessica Skufca okay but she’s NOT properly training her. I’ve been seeing the same things in all of her videos, she needs someone there with her to help her train, a lot of people actually have others there to help train.

I think she’s doing a great job at training her and I know a lot of people that don’t have someone there with them I owner train my service dog you honestly have no idea what you’re talking about so if you aren’t educated in the subject please don’t comment

I’m 24 also have a husky service dog! ❤️ I also have PCOS! It’s extremely hard! Keep a check on it most definitely. I have a HARD time getting pregnant! 2 miscarriages so far :/ I know you’re young but definitely go to a doctor who specializes in it.

It’s hard training my dog to heal in her defense she is only 9 months but she is a really smart little girl. I have people stare at me like your to young you can’t have a service dog your just using the system. I have severe anxiety and severe depression she helps me from having anxiety attacks which has come down a lot since getting her!
