Intentionally hurting a service dog in Florida is either a first degree misdemeanor or a third degree felony (depending on severity). Next time anyone kicks your service dog, press charges. It doesn't matter if it's 'your word against his'. You can press charges.

I have a service dog (the one on my profile picture) her name is marshmallow. I took her to our local Albertsons and I ran into a fake that tried to attack her. Someone was trying to pet her. I told them to not touch her and they ignored me. :(

My service dog was the first service dog to ever come to school in my district so it was crazy. One staff member kept telling students that my dog bites and I had to have a come to Jesus meeting with them a counselor and my principle.

I was suppose to go back to school this year with my service dog.. although since I was behind and scared to take my service dog with me because of something bad happening.. I am now in homeschool and it's still pretty crappy.
I'm so sorry this happened to you.. you handled it well !

Kobe The Service Goldie I agree with you. If anyone ever hurts or disrespects my dog I am going to defend them. Especially, because one of my dogs is in training to be a service dog and the other dog has trust issues due to living in the shelter during the first 4 months of her life.

At my school I’ve been refused to bring in my service dog (a teacup Yorkshire terrier) because too many other students were afraid of dogs.
I would have a parent walk to school with me so that I could bring my SD and other students would run across a road from my tiny on leash dog

You handled this very maturely but i think the school handled it poorly. You and your dog should have been safe. High school is rough to navigate I can't imagine having to do it with a service dog on top of that. Kids can be so disrespectful and mean.

I actually just dropped out of mine as well, harassment got to be too stressful and was happening every day. The school didn't do anything, they did 2 announcements saying I had a service dog, but it just made people look for her. And they compared her to a therapy dog so no one took her seriously. she barked at people once or twice (it's something we are working on, its worse after school because of everything that happened) because they started yelling and screaming at her cause it's a dog! no one has ever seen one before apparently. and people kept trying to pet her, even after I said no (one group of guys harassed me the entire 2 months I was at school). I did the same lunch break too, but only with friends, and one kid passed us, then came back to the table, asking to pet her, and when I said no, he just reached for her and I screamed at him don't touch her (it was a rough morning already) and then when he saw my friends petting her, he came and sat near us, yelling at me the entire time. his friend group proceeded to harass us all the time after and barked at me like a dog in the hallway, some threw a pencil at me when I asked them to stop making kissy noises and distracting her 3 times.

Just wanna vent a moment: so my school is a specialist school for kids with autism, each kid gets their own class room, at most there are 4 kids with a corner of the bigger rooms each but mine is completely mine. My SD is currently in training, the main plan is for him to be ready by September if not sooner. We've been trying to include the staff with all his updates since October, letting them know that it would be happening, the trainer we're using, the assessments we're doing etc. They're insisting on him having to pass the Public Access Test (they didn't even know about it until I showed them, and you also need a certified-by-that-organisation trainer to sign off on it, which our trainer isn't, yet they're willing to accept it) which is understandable, fine. We're working on it. However, since that demand, one teacher in specific has decided to get a dog to act as the school therapy dog. Very cute puppy who's probably about 3-4 weeks old currently, and the teacher tells me that he'll be coming into school at TWELVE WEEKS OLD. To WORK. As a THERAPY DOG. He'll be going from class to class and working with everyone, with 0% training, yet my already well trained adult dog isn't allowed in to sit in my room with just me and a teacher?? Its so goddamn infuriating. I've also talked to the teacher getting the dog, and even when he's fully trained, the most they're planning to do is teach him to sit, stay, and fetch. Literally a pet dog, just being allowed in to be pet by whatever students want to. Yet my SD won't be allowed in where he just works with me because he's not 'fully trained'. Its really goddamn annoying.
Also, they expressed concerns about my dog not being neutered to begin with (I was pushing for him to be allowed in a long time ago just out of desperation, I realise it would be innapropriate now, but this was one of their early excuses; he since has been neutered, btw), but the 'therapy dog' will have been coming in for over a year before he's even old enough to get neutered, and yet that isn't worrying??? Just: ugh. Ugh. I have nothing against the teacher getting the dog, the dog himself, or their requirements for my dog; its just extremely unfair that the dog expected to interact with everyone has no expectations compared to the dog expected to interact with at most 4 people having so many.

My SD was the first to attend a clinic I go to weekly, they had a staff meeting and after finally agreeing they said I had to go I'm a different door and keep him hidden. A few months later suddenly there's 3 other so-called service dogs, fuck right off, if those people already had fully trained service dogs my dog, would not have been the first one to attend!
No way that many people just accepted the no dogs rule all that time if they had real service dogs, they'd have known the law!

WHYS THAT SOMETHING I WOULD SAY TO SOMEONE THOUGH LEXIE OH MY LORD SMART ASS MODE DEFINITELY WAS ACTIVATED 😂😂 Anywho 😂 There’s a service dog at my high school and I’ve went off on so many students when I see them mess with him. He’s such a sweetheart, and he does his job. His handler is amazing and during lunch last year I’d sit near them sometimes and a few times Dabbs (service doggo) would come and just do DPT and at first I was like “um, excuse me sir, your not supposed to help me, you have to help your mom” and she looked at him and then at me and said “if your okay with him helping you, it’s okay. Lunch is his break time” and he took me to the ground at one point because I was having an anxiety attack and he demanded I sit down and the entire time he’d look over at his mom to make sure she was okay too and I tried many times to get him to just leave me be because I’d feel fine and he demanded I stay sitting down. I could ramble about how amazing this dog is, I absolutely love him and he’s such a great boy. But students are respectful most of the time, but sometimes I definitely go off on people for fucking with him in the halls and stuff

A dog cam would've been a good investment, both forward and rear facing. When the school staff refuse to do their jobs, you go the the school board. You file ADA suits. Your mom should've backed you up and gone mama bear on the principal and teacher. The adult can file the lawsuit on behalf of the child.
I understand she was giving you leeway to learn how to handle these things, but she should've gone off on them.
Ii'm sorry you got let down by so many people, especially the typically lackadaisical school staff.

My 5th grade teacher treated me like shit along with almost all my high school teachers until senior year. My 5th grade teacher hates disabled people and my aid didn’t do anything she was asked to. My best friend did. Freshman year to junior year my seizures got worse, I was diagnosed with anxiety freshman year, my advisory teacher hated me because she was jealous of my sister and took it out on me, they ignored about 98% of my IEP, I only got along with my math, ELA, science and art teachers and the nurse. The math and ELA teachers because they taught students with learning disabilities, the art teacher and nurse worked at my elementary school so already knew about my seizures, sight, balance, short term memory and everything else. I don’t know why my science teacher liked me so much though. The only teachers other than that I got along with was the teachers for disabled students. I let it slide I didn’t have an aid because I was getting really independent and had shared one with someone eighth grade. I started getting bullied by one of my elementary school friends, couldn’t take a nap after a seizure and they were getting worse along with my memory, I was forgetting things easier causing people to laugh at me even more, I started writing down when I had a seizure and when they found out they made more fun of me. I was held back in 6th grade so I could catch what I missed after doing school work at work with my parents so they could look at disabled schools so never saw my best friend that often either. When I was going into senior year my parents found a disabled school and after going to court I was able to go there. It felt so good to be with people like me. I was in the same room like elementary school, no homework, assistant teacher and a teacher, called them by their first name, assigned seats at lunch with a staff member sitting with them and more. I even started getting confused of my anxiety I was taken off the pill. My seizures were getting worse and worse so they looked after me and caught them unless I told them from my warning. My parents and doctors had brought up a service dog multiple times over the years and I would say no every time. I didn’t want to get even more bullied, my mom was allergic to just about every breed and stuff like that. My mom got a puppy and didn’t tell me when I was in senior year. Her name is Ziva and she can tell I’m about to have a seizure, about to have an panic or anxiety attack and more. So she looks after me.
