Ah amonket. The inspiration for my current dnd game. My players don't play magic, so they just learned a week ago (about 20 sessions in) that the entire plane is a lie and bolas is about to arrive and kill them all. Good times

We actually did a campaign on Amonkhet, which was sick. A few players knew of the main secret, but they didn't tell others about it, which made an awesome moment of revealing the truth. Planeswalkers didn't show up, but characters tried to save their home anyways. And they succeeded!
God, thats probably the only dnd campaign we finished and it was dope af. What a setting

My version actually had the immortal sun located on amonket to prevent the party from leaving the plane, so their next plan (and tonight's session) is to go and steal it from the central building in the city. Then they plan on going out to the lazotep zombie factory in the desert and destroying it before bolas comes to collect his army. They have 20 days left so time is ticking.

I sold off some old Amonkhet "bulk" a bit ago and actually laughed when Graham said Bontu's Monument isn't great
When you opened Bontu's my thought was "oh wow, that's a Commander bomb". Oketra's is definitely better for limited, but Bontu's is amazing in mono-B or mostly B commander. Also, it is part of a 3-card win-the-game combo with oathsworn paladin and that artifact that sacs creatures for their mana cost, so there's that :)

Sparring mummy was also great in red white Aggro because you would untap the 3/2 haste that exerted to make a creature can’t block or the 2/2 that would exert and get +1+1 and flying.
Seems like a combo piece for pauper...

Can confirm that Nissa for 6 happened, having done so myself. It feels amazing.
Those Sun-Scorched Deserts are exceptionally powerful in the “Ramunap Red” Deck (Wins). Ping for 1 on the ETB and Sac fodder for Ramunap Ruins (the red uncommon spell desert). The mono-red deck was pretty busted in Standard at the time, thanks in part to Sun-Scorched Desert.
An untapped land that gets you one or maybe three points closer to winning, yeah that seems good in aggro.
Fun fact about the monuments is that they can go in any deck. They don't have colour identity. I put the Bontu's into my Chulane deck and the drain was insane :D

Here’s a thought: if Graham were to do some kind of multi-pack opening Crack-a-Pack… thing at Pax, would it be called Crax@Pax?
He could open two packs and have the whole thing translated into french and call it: crax deux paks @ Pax

I always knew Bontu's Monument would be the strongest card in the cycle for Commander, but... that's one heck of a price on the American market.
I assume Bontu's Monument is $$$ because in Commander Black has very few mana ramp cards that don't cost 5 or more mana
I will not lie, I just added Bontu's Monument to my considering list for my Strefan commander precon upgrade so I do not look forward to that price.

Incidental cheaper Ramp in Black, another source of Life Leech, can be put into any deck for the Leech effect since it triggers on any Creature, (as can any/all of the Monuments being in play at once like the Shrines) and is another part of Death and Taxes and or Aristocrats decks while are very common and enjoyed. There's more reasons of course, but those are a few.
Its also a combo piece for looping spells like grave crawler.

“Bontonument” really had me cackling
This reminded me of a deck I built around Bontu's Monument, Impact Tremors, & Memnite/Ornithopter
Time to see if I can go find where it went
Oh I remember the United Airlines thing where they beat up a passenger. Back in the days when air travel was an acceptable leisure activity. And now I’m probably gonna die in Shanghai, unable to escape on a United Airlines flight.
Absolutely monumental pack.
Sunscorch Desert is also a popular combo piece in infinite blink combos, like Animate Dead + Worldgorger Dragon (usually in EDH)
*Oketra* is the correct choice if it's pack 1; It points you in the direction of your deck.
*Nissa* is correct if Pack 2 or 3. It's both too flexible AND too splashable not to take.
Bontu's being the most expensive card is hilarious
Sunscorched Desert is a regular at some cEDH tables where it can kill people during a worldgorger dragon loop.
Graham saying that Naga Oracle is a good blocker in the format.
Me instantly coming up with four commons with Exert who dodge or punch through a 2/4, and also Bitterblade Warrior, who trades :)

I think Graham missed that Training Mummy is designed to work with Exert.
It still feels weird to me, my friends and I have all tended to read the mana costs from right to left. I guess because it's right aligned? Or because the color mana helps inform earlier? I never thought about it until watching these.

Bontu's Monument is heavily played in commander not just for the discount but it's a way to kill someone while doing infinite gravecrawler casts (not sure what else lets you do infinite casts besides crawler/sac/mana)
Rooftop Storm makes Gravecrawler free as well.
You don't have to run the Monuments in their own color either. Their Color Identity is still Colorless so they can be ran in any deck.

Extremely situational and potentially dead cards like Trumpet Blast get much better with cycling, even at 1 more mana.

Oh yeah Bontu's is definitely from commander. Put it to ya this way: in my world Bontu's Monument is the best, Oketra's monument goes in some places just not as many, and then I literally have no earthly idea what any of the others do, such is their irrelevance.

I know I see Bontu's Monument often for EDH synergies, but Oketra's is much more niche by comparison when the former can be more general.
Oketra's in Limited is better than Bontu's. It's reversed in Constructed. The additional Creatures is often times more needed and worthwhile in Limited (you're basically doubling your forces) than a few triggers of Life Leech. Whereas in Constructed, Bontu's is the more powerful build around and or inclusion, especially in Mono Black.
don't sleep on oketra's in white heavy edh! its sneaky good ramp. kind of a second pearl medallion that also makes dorks
@@williamgray2066 Yup. I'd put it as the 2nd best Monument for EDH, and best in Limited. The card is very good no matter if you're playing White or not. White Weenie XWs can get out of hand quickly with some Trumpet Blast and or Anthem effects for sure.
This plane has a walled-off oasis in the middle of a desert filled to the brim with dangerous creatures, and a paranormal event brings down the walls and reins destruction on the world...why is this block just the story of Attack on Titan?

Oh destined to lead gives me a lot of nostalgia. I remember to have opened it from one of the few packs i got back then and that i desperately tried to make it work with the wretched from my dad's old collection. I managed to pull it off once and it was fucking sick
