The reason mystic sanctuary is templated that way is because in some decks (specifically archelos ehd and amulet of vigor decks) there are ways to make it enter the battlefield untapped, without actually having 3 islands. Works the same for the other lands in that cycle.
Righteousness is in SHANDALAR. (Translators note: Shandalar is a very very very very old PC game, presently abandonware as the publisher does not exist anymore, with freely available fan-made remakes, and still the only solid single player version of Magic.) It wasn't very good even back then.
it's even good in 5c, I discovered it accidentally with a booster tutor in my 5 color badstuff deck and it's lived there ever since sometimes I even get to cast it with my prismatic omen down and get to pay the adamant
Rebecca Guay's artwork for Youthful Knight from Stronghold was one of my favorites Magic arts when I was a kid. He didn't look so youthful to me though.
Me: Oh boy, new Crack-a-Pack! I'll make tea and grab a madeline to snack on as I watch. Graham: Greetings, you Gluttonous Trolls! I hope you're doing well. Me: ...didn't have to call me out like that.
I do wish you would get more into signaling in draft. In this pack if you do not take the Trail of Crumbs, you are very much sending the signal that green is open. But if you take it, then you are still leaving yourself open to do other things as the paragon is nice but not a bomb. There have been other packs that the signals that you could send would have been very relevant to the pick.
FWIW, I think Trail of Crumbs is the pick here and it's not especially close. The Paragon is a decent card, but Trail is an engine - it's guaranteed to replace itself (with some selection!) and if you get even partway down the trail it's not hard to end up 3-4 cards up with it.
Righteousness would combo well with Blaze of Glory ('Target creature defending player controls can block any number of creatures this turn. It blocks each attacking creature this turn if able').
So, cards in this pack that have been constructed playable: mystic sanctuary, trail of crumbs, opt, blacklance paragon, bartered cow Granted, the decks playing bartered cow were definitely memey, but still that’s a lot for one pack of premier set cards
Still happy I managed to win multiple games via attacking my opponent with a 1/1 into their board, they block it... Righteousness -> Righteousness -> Claim the Firstborn -> Fling Stupidest deck I've ever made won the intended way like once per 25 games. They never saw it coming.
Hahahah. You can't even see the pack of audiobook narrator cards in the intro to this specific video! (Left most column of cards in many of the intros where Graham's grabbing a pack: ua-cam.com/video/yfGcoIg2Yz8/v-deo.html)
I guess because it would be ambiguous about when you count the islands, as to whether it counts as one of them. (Do you count before you put the island down? If you’re only counting other islands, it doesn’t matter)
@@no_genius Yeah. I put it in the same bucket as the 'whenever you cycle or discard a card' phrasing WotC likes to use in sets were cycling is a major mechanic. The card would be functional with fewer words, but a little extra words just to be helpful doesn't hurt anyone.
Throne of Eldraine remains a signpost of how wild commons could get.
Ah yes, Mystic Sanctuary, the draft common so good it had to be banned in Modern.
Sometimes i hate we can t have erratas in mtg. This card wuold be ok without the island tipe
It just adds so much free utility to fetches.

"Fun" fact: Righteousness used to be a rare. In multiple core sets.
In like 7 old sets
Every time someone mentions it the disappointment of opening a 10th edition one just rushes back.
Lol what

@@TehAmelie To be fair Shandalar also has the P9 and Contract from Below.
Once and Future is so incredibly underrated in green-heavy EDH decks.

“This is a direct metaphor for today’s society, in which we live.”
I had no idea that was a knight suplexing a bear until now. Everytime I looked at that art I thought it was some weird plant.
Graham: oh right the knight suplexing the grizzley bear
Me: that's not a weird crab monster?
Love the imagery of Graham getting isekai-ed and settling into the persona of the Monty Python peasants, causing his immediate exile.
Rebecca Guay's artwork for Youthful Knight from Stronghold was one of my favorites Magic arts when I was a kid. He didn't look so youthful to me though.
Another "bye" of the pack wrapper off of the table! What a classic!

I was today years old when I realized that Wolf's Quarry is a 3 Little Pigs analogy. It seems so obvious in retrospect.
I once bought a giant stack of ELD bulk commons for cheap for an art project and made it all back by selling all the mystic sancturaries.
Whenever you see a card with weird templating, the answer is usually to make it work in MTGO
I hate that the word "wizened" doesn't actually mean what it sounds like it means. Thanks Graham.
Welcome to English, where everything is stupid!
Thank you for FINALLY setting the record on "wizened" straight! I swear the professor has said it wise-en like 5 times now

Righteousness + Fling = Fun Times
Once and Future is such a good reference.

Unfortunately you failed the “don’t open any banned cards from a pack of eldraine” challenge this episode.
This was the first time I was made aware of once and future

1:35 ah yes, gadwick the really old

Engagement for the engagement god!
Replies for the algorithm-throne!
Oxen are just cattle that happen to be employed as beasts of burden. So it could be both a cow and an ox at the same time.
Is that why wizard is wizard and not w(I)se-ard? Old gray men with beards?
Did someone say Cow Tech? I think I heard someone say Cow Tech

Crack! A! Pack!
Why do they call it oven when you of in the chump blocking pig of out hot crack the food token
Cow also means a female ox, or any other bovine.
why does Mystic Sanctuary read "three or more other islands" and not "four or more islands" wouldnt that save space?

I loved Eldraine, despite how wildly powerful it was!
I'm early!
Man this set was just utter broken garbage .
