- After discovering Scar in an abandoned mining town, 2 of Kimblee's men turn into horrifying chimeras and attack, using a variety of GROSS defenses to target the Ishvaalan survivor. Just when he seems finished, Ed and Al cross paths in the knick of time, leading to yet another fight, until Winry arrives and the entire situation shifts, leading to a devastating cliffhanger leaving us SO READY for the next episode!

I’ll never stop being delighted by the juxtaposition of Al being a big tough bruiser who’s unbeatable in hand to hand and also a little 14 year old cinnamon bun.
Not to mention Al is regarded as one of the best hand to hand combatant in the series. If you don't know, you'll know :3
And this is the episode that makes episode 4 even more tragic to me. Shou Tucker sacrificed his whole family to keep his funding researching something the military had already developed - fully integrated and functional human chimeras.
For real. I only really put that together while watching this reaction. Seen the series like 4 times.
It's sad for his daughter and dog. But he was completely insane at the end of the day too.. I think he deserved what he got. To me Scar is pretty much a main protagonist any ways the entire show.

@@joshgrobansdrymouth It’s actually crazy how many little things there are in this series, I’ve seen it a dozen times now and still learn new stuff I’d never seen or thought about before.
Scar is so interesting. It was very clear that the Rockbell deaths were an accident; Scar was temporarily insane at the time, having woken up from an explosion to see his brother’s arm sticking out from him and blue eyes staring down at him.
But, he took full responsibility anyway. “There’s nothing I could say that wouldn’t sound like an excuse, and the fact remains that I am responsible for their deaths.”

He has extreme PTSD. Like extreme. His mental fatigue has to be immense, and at this point part of him probably wants everything to be over. :( but he's pretty much one of my favorite characters. Along with Roy
Olivier really kept climbing the ranks for my favorite FMAB character since she was introduced. I love that the author made sure to give her moments of meaningful dialogue as well as her being a capable leader and fighter. Her giving the broken watch to one of her men and her quiet moment with Buccaneer really made me feel for her.
Yeah the mangaka really had to be a genuis. "How do i make the audience love my 2nd armstrong as mucb as the first? Ah perfect. Make her the EXACT opposite." And it worked...more than beautifully
That one scene really gave me the feeling that that moment was the only scene she showed her true face. Every other moment she wore the mask of "general armstrong".
The fact that she made herself the leader her men deserved/needed makes her twice as badass as she already is.

Killing Winry's parents is a different situation from killing the state alchemists because it was kinda accidental rather than a deliberate moral choice. I think maybe Scar's difficulty in apologizing to Winry - even he clearly has regret - is that he'd have to say "Look, I freaked out violently because my family was dead and I just found my brother's arm attached to my body and I made some wrong assumptions", and that does sound like kind of a cop-out unless you really go into everything that happened in Ishval...which would be a further burden to put on this young girl.
And it would be trigger central for Scar as well. Going through the entire war. Not like he doesn't go through it everyday in his mind
Scar and Roy are my two favorite characters. Scar suffers from very extreme PTSD and depressive tendencies clearly. Obviously he's not sought any help.. And yeah. He's just mentally scarred beyond repair. And it makes him very complicated :( I don't blame him for anything he did honestly. It's partly not his fault even. :(
I don't know if someone has clarified this before, but Yoki was a character who actually did appear as the antagonist of a chapter of the early parts of the manga that wasn't fully covered in this show, probably to save time and go along with the joke that even as a recurring character he's still not that important. His story actually was covered in the 2003 series, though he wound up being even less important there and an anime original character introduced in that episode had a slightly larger role in the long run of that series.
Yoki's backstory was actually a whole episode in the 2003 series, like episode 9. Also Alex and Olivier's other sister are named Amue & Strongine (The two buff ladies), and Catherine who throws the piano. I think given the evidence provided, Olivier could probably lift that tank she was in if she wanted to.
Olivier prefers to channel her superstrength into the point of her sword, probably.
yeah, but if one watched only that episode, they would be confused about who that girl who can use wind alchemy that works as yoki's bodyguard.
I started watching the 2003 series with my parents, but wasn't liking it very much and when Netflix removed the series about 12 episodes in (love regional licensing -_- ), we decided to switch to brotherhood.
My running joke for half the series was that whenever Yoki talked about revenge and whatnot, I commented that he's in the wrong show :P
and in the manga. It happened after Elric brothers defeated Father Cornello

There was a filler chapter in the manga, where Hawkeye tried asking her out on a date.
The two before where Alex's older, and Oliviers younger, sisters, Strongine and Amue.
And yes both middle sisters are larger than Alex, and are pretty much just created as gag characters.

The chapter with Catherine was also in the 2003 anime. Honestly, since I never intended to read the manga, I'm glad I watched the entire 2003 anime before watching Brotherhood. I enjoyed all the "references" more.

They do actually mention Yoki at the beginning of episode 4.
For the Yoki backstory, those were actually Armstrong's other three sisters. Amue and Strongine are Alex's other older sisters, though they are younger than Olivier. (The two Yoki meets in the hall, with their massive faces that resemble Alex's) Then as he runs from them, he happens upon Catherine at the piano, the youngest Armstrong. Alex is the only male child, and has a total of four sisters.
Catherine gets a little bit of air time in FMA Original when Alex tries to set up Mustang's Havoc with his youngest sister, but she prefers muscular men, like her brother. (Which shatters Havoc's self-esteem.)
Also, the Yoki story actually does take place in FMA Original. So if you wanted to see his episode, it's over in that series.

I would freaking LOVE a total drama reaction series. That show is so much fun to see reactions to and the new seasons coming out will create a ton of interest and views.
These two need to be reacting to SpyXFamily aka the most wholesome show in existence.
Basically in the 2003 series, most of episodes 1-11 are canon (1-4 is is both Liore arc and brother's history arc; 5-6 is Nina/Tucker arc and introduces Scar; 7-8 is 5th laboratory arc; 9-11 is Yoki arc). Though there are a few random original characters not from the Manga/2009 series. Episode 12 is partially canon (but they introduce a totally original character who greatly changes the story), but after that the story heavily diverges.
Lust, Envy, Gluttony are the same (in terms of appearance and overall personality) and work as a trio, but their circumstances are different. Greed is physically the same but has very different circumstances. Bradley is still Führer but plays a different role amongst the homunculi. Father/The Dwarf does not exist. The rest are just as different (original) as the new story.

It's quite a different story from what happened in the 2003 FMA anime, and I cannot for the life of me understand why they wouldn't show it in all its glory!

Tiger and Bunny is a great one of "Reality TV Anime". An ulternate version of the 70s where technology has advanced do to NEXT (people with powers) and superheroes compete on a reality TV show and have suits branded woth their corporate sponsors. Mystery, heroes, action, and family drama. Excellent series with a great English dub. 👍🏻
As some have already mentioned, Yoki's story actually appeared in the manga and in the 2003 anime. And yes, the version of events he told here is very inaccurate. In reality, he was corrupt and was swindling the townspeople with ridiculous taxes. Ed and Al tricked him into selling them the deed to the town by giving him gold, only for the gold to turn to coal. Ed and Al then gave the deed back to the people.
Also, in the manga as well as the 2003 anime, Havoc courted the girl with the piano (an Armstrong sister). It's one of the side stories I wished they kept. There's also one where Al kept rescuing stray cats, which they reference in an earlier episode. I believe Al also rescued Black Hayate from the streets before he was given to Hawkeye. And of course, my favorite was the one where Mustang talked about the things he would do as fuhrer, such as mandating female soldiers to wear miniskirts. It's a side to his character we never really see here.
(At 12:49) the gray one with quills is some boar and the fat yellow one is some kind of a frog.

Yakitate! Japan is kind of a reality TV show through part of it. It starts off a bit hells kitchen and then evolves into a Chopped type show
Someone needed to tell the animators that choking someone out and SNAPPING THEIR NECK are very different. They made Al look like a straight killer (might have been like that in the manga but the point stands)
Isekai quartet is a great "reality tv anime" but the songs are the ones that blew me away

Everything that happened to Yoki is true, however he's putting his spin on things. So his perspective sounds genuine but his actions during that speech were contradictory. Pretty great play on the common trope of bad guys thinking they're good
