Actually, you don't need ANY music at all while you are talking. However loud or soft it is distracting, apart from the piece you chose being annoyingly repetitive. That aside, the GX80/85 is a great little camera.
I have been using the GX80 for three years, mostly for stills. I love it and can agree with everything you said here. The lens lineup is the most impressive of any mirror less system.
I'm in the exacty same boat as you, I'm starting out as a wedding videographer and could only get a Canon T3i, but now I'm starting to get some bookings its defo time to upgrade! Can't wait to start using the GX80
Thank You, This has to be the best review I have watched on UA-cam. .( I do watch alot) After reading other comments, I had to go back and watch again, the first time I was not aware of the background music. So obviously I didn't find the music too loud. Your image quality, and your presentation were excellent. Again, thank you.
Hi Shaun - try this for AF - set your frame rate and then shutter to 180 degrees plus one higher - ie use say 25p set shutter to 1/60 or 50p 1/125 or 60p 1/150 - shoot in CineLike D as this gives more equal contrast . Contrast and as Panasonic is contrast based makes a difference - If your vlogging register your face - also Panys will default to the background so you can also learn to use back button focus Also if you use an external monitor don’t use AF - this is mentioned in the manual that AF will be unreliable when using an external monitor
Excellent video, very logical format. I have the GX85 myself, but haven't used it enough to get it's true capabilities. Your video was helpful in seeing what it can do. Thank you for sharing.
Dude, you're just awesome. I was deciding between the lumix gx85 and sony a6000. I was invested in the m4/3 system because I own an olympus camera (em5mii). This video was my deciding factor. Thanks man. I just hope the conditions in Malaysia will get better when I get this camera to shoot with it.
I enjoyed your enthusiasm and joy in owning this camera. Your examples and story are well told. Keep up the great work. My story is different coming from still film cameras and point and shoot digital cameras and 25 years of camcorders none of which were HD. I started my Lumix journey with a G7 I watched every video I could and bought the camera and kit lens along with the 45-200 Lumix lens. I also purchased a ZS50 pocket camera loving the 30x zoom, took so many photos with this little camera. The G7 allowed me to do lots of interviews and product videos. Next purchase was G5 wanting to have 120fps and more video capabilities and IBIS. G5 is my primary camera now. ZS50 went screwy and bought a ZS70 open box and a GX85 open box. The GX85 only came with the kit lens but I only paid $200 US. I love the Lumix products. Added 12-50 Oly with macro capability and the Lumix 25mm 1.7. I also have the f9 9mm fisheye from Olympus. The GX85 is my street photography camera, I am also amazed by the video quality. BTW I got a 2Ti from my mother-in-law. Glad I didn't invest in DSLR cameras. I record separate sound for most projects using my Zoom H6. Happy Shooting and thanks for sharing.
Nice vid. The size and being able to charge via USB were massive for me, I actually sold me GH5 as it exceeded my needs and picked up a GX85 cheap on the used market. I do miss the 10-bit 4:2:2 of the GH5 for heavier grading, but for 98% the GX85 with the Cine-D hack is great. The lack of mic jack though, what a miss there by Panasonic. I can forgive the terrible continuous AF, but having to sync audio with secondary audio recorders is a serious drag.
we literally had the exact same though process. I did the same thing and ended up getting a gx8 for the flip screen. fast forward about 5 months I now shoot on a a7iii :) but still have so much love for Panasonic!
Just about to start a channel and shell out on an a6400, but I already have a gx85 with a 20mm pancake so after watching your video I'm gonna save my money for now.
I got to play with a Sony A6400 recently and I can now say confidently that unless you really need a microphone jack and flip screen, the Lumix GX85 paired with a fast lens (F/2 or lower) is still the king of quality for the price!
Unfortunately, the gx9 isn't such an upgrade for 4K because of the severe 4k crop, but in 1080p, there is a hack on gx9 to enable 100mbit modes. My nitpick with the gx85 is that it doesn't do continuous autofocus while it's not recording, so if you use it for its clean hdmi, you basically have no autofocus unless you also record to an sd-card.
Bro, I'm undecided between the m200 and gx85 canon, I want it mainly for video clips and create content for social networks, which one do you recommend? Greetings from Cuba 🇨🇺
There is a mic hack for the gx80 there are 3 test pads that you can solder to. It doesn’t seem overly difficult but I haven’t done it yet myself. I am extremely tempted as I have been trying to record TimeCode to it using headphones placed close to the 2 internal mic ports without success.

Thanks for sharing i have been doing some research on this camera as a second vlog camera. It just bugs me there is no audio input. But the price is affordable
I bought gx85 and its coming soon. Im a canon user before . This is my first time to switch another brand, may I know if lenses of canon can use in gx85? Thank you!
I want to teach videography and use a good camera... The question is: 1.- Buying a GX85 very compact camera in a low price and record quality video with: "Atomos Ninja V" or: 2 .- Forget about the compactness of the Gx85 and go for a more expensive and newer camera like the GH6 camera and not use the "Atomos Ninja V". it is an easy or difficult choice, for a person as experienced as you?
There is sound from the built in microphone, but the audio quality isn't great from it. Usually, videographers use external microphones, but since there is no microphone jack, it means that an external recorder needs to be used along with the GX85.
What lenses would u recommend for this? Amazon has a 12-32 and 45-150 bundle for sale, are those any good or would u recommend prime lenses ? I'm new to mirrorless so idk what kind of lenses are even available for this. Also what kind of sensor do these cameras use?
@coin blatter I have the gx80 with the standard kit lens 12-32 which is excellent. I recently purchased the lumix 35-100 f4-f5.6. It’s small and lightweight and produces very sharp images. If you are looking for a prime the Olympus 17mm f1.8 is a great ‘all rounder’.
HELP PLEASE. I have the GX85 and just purchased two new SD Cards (Sandisc). Every time I put them in the camera says to reinsert them....EVERY TIME. Therefore I can't use or format them because the camera isn't accepting them. Any ideas?
Great video !!! I'm actually interested in this camera and is searching for used deals to have a sense of the typical prices of used gx85 in Malaysia, but they seem to be quite rare, are there any FB groups or other sites that you can recommend to try to find them, please do accept my thanks in advance.
Yea, they seem to be quite rare now. A few months ago, I’ve been seeing them for under RM1.5K which is a great price, but not so much lately. I usually use Carousell and FB Marketplace and follow a few camera stores in Malaysia. I think GX9s can be found for sub RM2K which is a bit more, but is probably worth the premium for the better sensor and a few extra features. Might want to consider that too!
My Lumix gx85 has weird image stabilization, like a jello background in warp stabilizer premier pro. Is your Lumix gx85 the same as mine. do you have a solution?
I have this camera and shot some video clips with 8bit 100 mbps 4k. I had to use the GX85 due to the small from factor and budget. Now I need to use those video clips as background and green screen people in the foreground. I am considering getting a camera that can shoot 4k 10bit 200 mbps. I am still thinking if it is doable.
I think a Lumix G9 or GH5 with 10-bit would do great for that because you’d definitely want to grade your clips to match the green screen’ed subjects as close as you can. I wouldn’t say it’s impossible to grade with the GX85 (far from it), but 10-bit should definitely help your workflow!
I think the gx85 could even be better then the Panasonic g100 that just came out. Especially since it has IBIS. the lens selection and price is good for micro four thirds. I think the g8 has a mic jack? The g85 is a good option too without 4K cropping.
Steve H I share the same opinion that the GX85 is much better than the G100 because of how much IBIS has played a role in my work flow. The G100 doesn’t really bring much to the table that the G7 or GX8 can’t do. You are correct that the GX8 has a microphone jack and the G85 is a great value deal because of all it can do. For the price that the G100 retails at, it’s worth topping up a little more for a used G95 or G9 if size isn’t an issue.
I have the gx85 and love it but I have to say the Canon M50 is a real contender on a budget if you don't need 4K or if you can work around the 4K crop. You lose IBIS but there is video digital stabilization, selfie screen, insanely good continuous AF, mic input and with an EF adapter tons of affordable lenses. Love the video.
I recently lost my 600D in a house move and I really loved it - I'm looking for a second-hand camera to replace it with now so I'm so glad I found this video!
Great video mate! I sold my Sony a7iii to move to micro four thirds systems. It amazes me the size difference between the full frame and micro four thirds lenses. I have a Leica 8-18, 20mm f1.7 and the 14-140 and all those lenses together are smaller than my Sony GM 16-35 f2.8, it’s amazing! Plus, my 14-140 has stabilisation.. I was thinking about buying the new Sony a7siii, but after thinking too much, I think the Sony a7siii is not worth the amount of money I would have to spend with the camera and the full frame lenses + the size. I also do travel videos and for me it’s extremely important to stay lightweight as it’s easier to film and pay less in airplanes tickets. I’ll likely buy a g9 for the 4K 60 and the microphone jacket and have my gx85 as my b camera.
Your face was going out of focus every few seconds for the entire time that you were talking. It was kind of distracting. I'm surprised that you call continuous auto focus "the elephant in the room" but still went ahead and let it affect your video like that. I have GX85 also.
Apologies for the background music too loud, will take note for the next video! Thanks for your comments!
Actually, you don't need ANY music at all while you are talking. However loud or soft it is distracting, apart from the piece you chose being annoyingly repetitive. That aside, the GX80/85 is a great little camera.
Commenting to spread love on any and all gx85 content.
Was going to pull the trigger on a Sony A7C but after watching this I’m thinking maybe I should just stick with my GX85 and learn more.
I have been using the GX80 for three years, mostly for stills. I love it and can agree with everything you said here. The lens lineup is the most impressive of any mirror less system.
Thanks for the review! I was struggling to choose between GX85 and A6000, now I'm convinced to buy the GX85.
Same!
Thanks Shaun, your video is a wonderful presentation! Lots of info in a short time period, that is logically presented.
Yes, the music bugs a bit, but this guy has such a cute face! And the review is excellent.
I'm in the exacty same boat as you, I'm starting out as a wedding videographer and could only get a Canon T3i, but now I'm starting to get some bookings its defo time to upgrade! Can't wait to start using the GX80

I'm so happy I happened upon this video.
I just upgraded from a Rebel T3 (non-i version) to a GX85!
I enjoyed your enthusiasm and joy in owning this camera. Your examples and story are well told. Keep up the great work. Very Good video, mate!
Pleasant presentation and lots of showcase footage and photos, top.
Very good communication skills.....! Well done buddy.....
Cool review man I enjoyed a lot your expalnation tnaks
I built my video business on this camera! Unreal value in this thing!
What a good vid. You are very thorough and articulate. Big respect

XD I have a 600D now and I'm planning to switch to GX85 this vid just resonates a lot 😅
I have been searching for which camera would be the best for video-recording! Thanks for the Video!!✌ It helped me alot✨🔥
Glad to have helped! I have another camera review coming up soon at an even lower price point, so stay tuned for that!
@@ShaunYeoh that's exciting✨
Probably the best review of this camera out there
Thanks a lot!
I own and love that camera. Mainly use it with the Panasonic Leica 15mm f1.7 and I shoot mostly photographs. Great review.
Ahh Panasonic....you really should have put a mic jack on this great camera. Just ordered a Meike 16mm cine lens for mine. GH6 is coming soon!
Just about to start a channel and shell out on an a6400, but I already have a gx85 with a 20mm pancake so after watching your video I'm gonna save my money for now.

How to make this
Love the GX85. Only thing I don’t like about it is that it doesn’t have mic input. That REALLY sucks.
Thanks for sharing i have been doing some research on this camera as a second vlog camera. It just bugs me there is no audio input. But the price is affordable

Just got one, I prefer the color rendition over my Sony a7iii
great video. & I thought I was the only one who lusted after the Panasonic S 1R/S 1H lol
Had mine since 2017
It's a fantastic camera.
I'm keeping an eye on the cameras Fuji is releasing with ibis now though.
helpful video man
Thank you for review. I am a beginner looking for a budget camera. Lack of microphone jack means that no audio input (sound) when shooting video?

Would you choose the GX85 over the G7 for videos?
If you want IBIS, yes. The G7 has really good image/video if IBIS is not an issue. G85 and G9 are more expensive options.

cool review the lens you are using is very exensive another lens that you would recommend me to get col scenes like those you did

what camera did you use to film this?
Omg its better than canon m50 can u use sigma lens like 18mm
How did you get it for so cheap. It’s $600 now
the price raised for some reason, it’s really stupid
no flip screen is compensated for with a live stream to your cel phone.
Hello, our company would like to do business with you. How can we contact you?
I have the gx85 and love it but I have to say the Canon M50 is a real contender on a budget if you don't need 4K or if you can work around the 4K crop. 8:45 noooo big smudge on the sensor.
I recently lost my 600D in a house move and I really loved it - I'm looking for a second-hand camera to replace it with now so I'm so glad I found this video!
I just cant watch that longer... the background music just demaged everything.
make a PC build vid
How do u focus ??
Just tap to focus on single autofocus usually. The camera is great for single autofocus, just not great for continuous video AF.
Orang Malaysia rupenya 👍

Bro teach us how to take that cool videos
You have a video called (shake it off minecraft note block) It is not included I want you to make it public
For most of this video i was lost in your eyes ....bro im straight ;_;
I've actually hacked my gx85 with an external mic jack, its awesome check it out.
that music in the background is louder than your voice.
touché
the background music is so annoying, i liked your style and i want to listen it but im forcing myself here. Music should be subtle.
interesting but Tone the music down a bit it's too distracting. in fact you could do without it completely it's what you are saying that matters.
Good content, but loud annoying music in the background. Its louder than your voice.
Can never understand why UA-camrs love putting loud music along with their commentary. Are we supposed to listen to the loud music or you talking ?
very clearly lumix has problem with focus in your video
The video when shot with gx85 was hunting too much..annoying
Your face was going out of focus every few seconds for the entire time that you were talking. It was kind of distracting. I'm surprised that you call continuous auto focus "the elephant in the room" but still went ahead and let it affect your video like that. I have GX85 also.
Ur music is too loud.
Having no mic ruins it.
