How Rice is Farmed in BRAZIL!

- Joinville is located in the second most southern state of Brazil, Santa Catarina. This is how they grow rice in the region. It's a bit different than back home in that the ground, due to rain, is always wet. I meet a local rice farmer who introduces how the ground is prepared, what equipment is used and how the rice is harvested.

Ótimo vídeo. Eu também moro em Santa Catarina, mas em Videira-SC, no meio-oeste catarinense. Nesta região nós vemos muitas fazendas com plantações de frutas como uva, pêssego, nectarinas, ameixas, além das plantações de milho, soja e feijões. Porém, não vemos muitas plantações de arroz na região de Videira, pois o relevo não favorece o cultivo do arroz e aqui também faz muito mais frio que Joinville, em Videira até no outono pode fazer -6°C e a cada 5 anos costuma nevar um pouco por aqui, como foi em 2013 e 2017.
Como eu não sabia muito bem como é cultivado o arroz, seu vídeo foi muito importante para aprimorar meu conhecimento. Parabéns pelo vídeo!! ;)

Hi Zsolt, If it were only between those three cities I would say visit Florianopolis! The island is just amazing with great beaches, various communities and awesome nightlife. Are you only visiting Santa Catarina? Depending on when you're there Blumenau has great beer culture like Octoberfest and a Micro-Brew Festival aside from the 3-4 breweries that are always there in town. Let me know what you're up to! Very cool, I came across your site because of Juan Brown, whom I follow because of his motorcycle riding (I too ride motorcycles, of the same kind of his). Now, when he interviewed you, as part of his Oroville series, I mentioned to him I was an agronomist and went to school in place where people plant rice... what I did not know is that your wife is from there as well. Thank you Matthew. That was my first attempt at making a video with some narration, other than just raw footage. I have hours of video from three motorcycle trips to Death Valley and other great riding places and no videos made... usually people say "keep the rubber side down". The rice they are growing, is it traditional seed or do they use Hybrid seed?
Troy, this is a great question. I'm planning on revisiting the farm when Clara and I return to Brazil this winter. I'll find this out. If I remember correctly he may have mentioned that they save some of their crop to replant the next year. Although they do harvest twice a year with volunteer plants (+re-planting).
