You guys need to get your stuff together. Yeah, Wraiths are cool, but after all Stackpole is the man and Rogue squadron is just way cooler in every aspect. And I want to see Corran and Mirax becoming Canon again, right alongside the Awesome Wedge we know from the X-Wing series.

I really dislike new eu Wedge. While his backstory has the bare bones of some of his old backstory and he has some traits of old Wedge, this new version feels kinda like just another defector in Rebels and like someone just read his wiki article for aftermath. While some of his personality has carried over it feels more like a token "remember this" thing rather then him being the same character. Plus we have utterly ignored his bromance with Luke. I need a Luke Wedge team up book set after ROTJ dammit. My biggest issue is the defector thing. Old Wedge did not have to join the Rebellion this Wedge had to or else he would be stuck with the Empire. What I love about old Wedge is that he was a begrudging hero. He did not love the empire but he did not hate it either. He was just a freighter pilot who wanted to be left alone. Seeing the empire bomb civilians struck a nerve in him and made him realize that he should follow his parents example. They died to save that fueling station because it was the right thing to do. Wedge joined the Rebels less out of a hate for the empire itself and more so because he had the ability to help people and did so.

It's one episode with wedge. He could be featured in more and as well as comics. Although your analysis could be true, its completely unbalanced.

To be fair EU Wedge did get fully fleshed out 3 years into the old EU. X-Wing: Rouge Squadron book one came out 3 years after the Thrawn Trilogy which was essentially the beginning of the EU as a full fledged universe that would be ongoing.
yeah but thats becaused they focused on wedge. you can not expect the Canon to focuse on the same things that the EU did. Otherwise it would just be a retelling and re arranging of what the EU did. They are going to tell new stories with new focus charakters in that timeline. But I believe Wedge will become an important part of it over time.
From what I got looking at most of the starfighters during the cannon up to this point yes they have pedals in the cockpit so its safe to say he wouldn't be flying on a broken leg. It would also be hard for him to take evasive actions since the pedals allow him to bank and roll depending on the type of fighter hes' in either X-Wing or a Y-Wing or A-Wing if that was his ship of choice
Wedge Freakin' Antilles. Destroying Star "Destroyers", gunning down Tie-Fighters, Sniping down Bucket-heads. Also very underrated character that's a Bad-Ass. Yeah. From all those skills and things and being a Bad-Ass and all that.. HE CAN'T FREAKIN' DIE.

Killing Wedge in Canon would be a huge mistake! He was the designated survivor! That was the original point of his character. Also super thrilled that they kind of sort of recanonized Wraith Squadron.

Basically they took the story of how Wedge joined the Rebellion and switched him with Biggs,who joined with Hobie after they hijacked a freighter after graduating the academy, which ironically prevented Soontir Fel from being assigned to Tarkin's personal TIE Squadron and being on the Death Star.
I'm sorry, but the original nine X-Wing series books were essentially what fueled my passion for reading growing up. they are without a doubt the best books, and the best series, I've ever read. The Bacta War or Starfighters of Adumar was my favorite, and the cast of characters throughout the books are what made those books. if not movies, they definitely warrant a Netflix series at least based SOLEY on the books written by Aaron Alliston and Michael A. Stackpole and the Dark Horse series comics. you'll never get a better dynamic than Wedge, Hobbie, Tycho, and Wes. "yub yub commander"

The title of this video doesn't make much sense. Disney did not change Wedge Antilles. Disney has little say on the decisions made by the Rebels team and the Lucasfilm Story Group. The title should be "How Lucasfilm Changed Wedge Antilles" or "How the New Canon Changed Wedge Antilles."

Disney executives don't directly interfere with the characters or storylines of "minor" things like tv shows, comics, or novels. Finally someone gets it. I dislike how we all blame Disney when it really isn't about them. Sure Disney has quite a messy history, in terms of companies their not that likeable but this, for once, really isn't on them.
Also why do people make a big deal out of it anyways? Clone Wars changed a lot of things about the EU long before disney bought star wars. Canon Material always changed the EU, because the EU was never considered canon. All people act like it just started with the new Leadership of Lucasfilms, but it didn't. George never considered the EU to be canon either.
Poor Biggs' we could've seen HIS defection rather than Wedge's since we know that Biggs was a defector from the start. Had this happened, we could have gotten to know Biggs better since we also know that Biggs' actor got utterly shafted by Lucas.
Not to burst anyones bubble, but Wedge might've died on Hosnian Prime when Starkiller Base blew it up. He was a flight instructor there and maybe canon hasn't decided whether to confirm he was on planet or not.
I much prefer Legends Wedge. Legends Wedge was never an Imperial, not to mention the fact that he went on to lead Rogue and Wraith Squadrons, and got the Lusankya as a command ship

How about a canon vs legends on the A-wing? in legends the A-Wing was created after the X-wing, and was superior, but in Canon its used before the X-wing

So who is Wedge? I don’t remember him in the movies except for some small shots here and there. But both in Legend and Canon he appeares everywhere!! Kind of like Thrawn
The video kind of explains who Wedge Is... He appears in all three of the original movies. In New Hope, he saves Luke in the fight above then Death Star, then does the trench run with him. In Empire, he's piloting the snowpeeder that trips an AT-AT and brings it down. In Jedi, he leads the fighter squadrons into the attack against the Imperial fleet at Endor and flies into the Death Star ahead of Lando, to fire one of the shots that destroys it - you can see him on the planet afterwards, partying with the Ewoks.
IF there was one thing that made me disavow anything to do with disney it was how they screwed with wedge, he is my favorite character in star wars and was perfect in "legends". Hence why the EU is the only canon as far as i am concerned
I really think Wedge has been so poorly handled in new canon. He keeps being put in stories to be part of silly love triangles. At least in Rebels he actually gets to fly a bit. As regards his appearances in books, the Stackpole-Allston version of Wedge is an infinitely more engaging characterisation of Wedge than Wendig's.
Wedge definitely deserves a retirement. Quoting Corran Horn from the first X-Wing book, "His eyes HAVE seen the years--have seen more than they should have."
Hey Alex. I'm curious as to how much value you give the "Ezra is Starkiller" theory? It seems to me that they are setting it up quite nicely with Ezra's "starbird" logo being close to the Marek family Crest that became the Rebel Alliance logo and that they are even changing Ezra's appearance to look more like Galen in Season 3. I think that this gives them a great story arc that could take them well into the 4th and even a 5th season if they chose to travel this path, also explaining why he's not around during A New Hope. But then again I also think Snoke is Maul, so what do I know...What do you think?
So.....no relationship between Wedge and the "Captain Antilles" of the Tantivie IV? 3PO mentions Captain Antilles in ANH (he's the one Vader chokes out in the opening scene) and he's mentioned in Rogue One at the end (Bail Organa says his name while exiting his last scene).
Interesting notes of the parallels in Wedge's backstories across eras before the Rebellion. The Rebels episode has me concerned, but I can get behind some aspects of it. Honestly, what irks me to the end is that Rogue Squadron (what Wedge is most famously known for in the post-ROTJ works and interquel stories between the original trilogy) has yet to be a factor in the new Canon. Its place so far as the flight squad of choice of Luke & Wedge is currently scrubbed in as just plain old Red Squadron, save for the remaining presence of "Rogue Group" in Empire Strikes Back as a snowspeeder fleet. At this point, I can stomach Wedge dying considering Dennis isn't interested in the new films, and I appreciate Phantom Squadron better as a parallel to Wrath Squadron, but it seems criminal to me that the Rogues as a concept hasn't returned. If the new story directors insist on sticking with Red Squadron for Luke and Wedge's X-Wing antics (or do something like make the Rogues part of the New Republic fleet that is all but decimated by Starkiller Base), all I ask then is that at least they can deliver stories that revive some of the old favorites from the Rogue Squadron history. Wes, Hobbie, Tycho Celchu, Corran Horn, and other fan favorites from the Rogues' comics and books would be massive steps in keeping the spirit of the squadron alive in new material, even without Wedge leading them (though the fact he was only a scout flying around in Aftermath at first really disheartens me as it is).

I would like to see where Wedge’s story goes in the new canon but I’m worried about it. In the old EU Wedge never cared too much about the empire, he was just a smuggler whose moral compass made him trader to both sides. The fact he never joined the Imperial Navy makes him stand out from others like Hobbie, Biggs, or Madine. I’m not saying those three were heroic (I mean Hobbie lost one of his limbs taking over the ship he worked on in the Empire while Biggs jumped ship in a TIE). But the whole defection from the Empire is such an overused troupe that if it isn’t written well (kind of like Celchu‘s or something interesting along those lines) it’s just another defector story. That’s what I feel about Wedge in the new canon. He’s not special. It really ruins his brave yet flawed character. The character that would distance himself from new pilots in the squad in fear of getting close to them and losing them. Just like Biggs, Porkins, Dak, and heck even his family. The only reason why I enjoy Wedge in the on EU is that he had a set way. The fact he came out of retirement three times to fight and risk his life says it all. Even though he had a wife and two daughters he believed that he had to fight to keep them safe as well as his friends and squad mates. He had even said at one point he never liked his sense of duty but followed it anyways. From what I’ve read the new canon character of Wedge is reaching for that characteristic but he’s so far away that it’s just echoing a fantastic character

Killing him off isn't bold, it's just stupid. The whole thing he became was "the guy who survives a bunch of battles". Why fly directly in the face of that? Not everything has to be tragic and melodramatic.
In Legends the Pirates who killed Wedge's family DID eventually get recruited by the Empire when it was particularly desperate for crew during the Remnant/Imperial Civil War era.
Surely, even ignoring the EU entirely, it does not make sense for the Disney retcon to give Wedge the backstory of an Imperial defector particularly one who defects with Hobbie, effectively making this Wedge an amalgam of Biggs and Wedge. This is assuming that the backstories of characters in the original trilogy are still "canon". Biggs' and Hobbie's defection to the Rebel Alliance is original trilogy backstory since way back when, and moreover Biggs is a Major minor character in ANH with his backstory one of the more "canonically legitimate" ones considering that George Lucas shot far more footage of Luke and Biggs which was dropped from the final cut. In subsuming Biggs' story under Wedge's, the Disney retcon is meddling with the very fabric of Original Trilogy backstory reality, is it not? Now that's disturbing.
I hope if he survives the battle of jakku (if he takes part in it) he shows in episode 8, and he meets Luke again, they where friends and it would be nice to see them together, a reunion of sorts

wedge could also be in the new republic fleet. remember in the force awakens we only see the resistance and the people that would have the strongest connection to him (Luke or lando) aren't in the resistance group or at least not seen in the movie. therefore they can't do any name dropping

I was really disappointed he wasn't included in the Ep. 7 space battle. Honestly I would have preferred they just outright replace Poe with Wedge, given his EU skill set. The Wedge as written by Allston and Stackpole will be among the characters I miss most in the new canon.

The title of this video doesn't make much sense. Disney did not change Wedge Antilles. Disney has little say on the decisions made by the Rebels team and the Lucasfilm Story Group. The title should be "How Lucasfilm Changed Wedge Antilles" or "How the New Canon Changed Wedge Antilles."

Disney executives don't directly interfere with the characters or storylines of "minor" things like tv shows, comics, or novels. Decision making on these minor products all occur within Lucasfilm and among its creative staff. It's kind of hard to explain.
Finally someone gets it. I dislike how we all blame Disney when it really isn't about them. Sure Disney has quite a messy history, in terms of companies their not that likeable but this, for once, really isn't on them.
Also why do people make a big deal out of it anyways? Clone Wars changed a lot of things about the EU long before disney bought star wars. Canon Material always changed the EU, because the EU was never considered canon. All people act like it just started with the new Leadership of Lucasfilms, but it didn't. George never considered the EU to be canon either.
Disney gave the broad pronouncement that all sorts of changes were A-Okay.

Not to burst anyones bubble, but Wedge might've died on Hosnian Prime when Starkiller Base blew it up. He was a flight instructor there and maybe canon hasn't decided whether to confirm he was on planet or not.

in legends the A-Wing was created after the X-wing, and was superior, but in Canon its used before the X-wing

So who is Wedge? I don’t remember him in the movies except for some small shots here and there. But both in Legend and Canon he appeares everywhere!! Kind of like Thrawn

He appears in all three of the original movies. In New Hope, he saves Luke in the fight above then Death Star, then does the trench run with him. In Empire, he's piloting the snowpeeder that trips an AT-AT and brings it down. In Jedi, he leads the fighter squadrons into the attack against the Imperial fleet at Endor and flies into the Death Star ahead of Lando, to fire one of the shots that destroys it - you can see him on the planet afterwards, partying with the Ewoks.

Wedge's Legends Story
IF there was one thing that made me disavow anything to do with disney it was how they screwed with wedge, he is my favorite character in star wars and was perfect in "legends". Hence why the EU is the only canon as far as i am concerned

I really think Wedge has been so poorly handled in new canon. He keeps being put in stories to be part of silly love triangles. At least in Rebels he actually gets to fly a bit. As regards his appearances in books, the Stackpole-Allston version of Wedge is an infinitely more engaging characterisation of Wedge than Wendig's.
Wedge definitely deserves a retirement. Quoting Corran Horn from the first X-Wing book, "His eyes HAVE seen the years--have seen more than they should have."
Hey Alex. I'm curious as to how much value you give the "Ezra is Starkiller" theory? It seems to me that they are setting it up quite nicely with Ezra's "starbird" logo being close to the Marek family Crest that became the Rebel Alliance logo and that they are even changing Ezra's appearance to look more like Galen in Season 3. I think that this gives them a great story arc that could take them well into the 4th and even a 5th season if they chose to travel this path, also explaining why he's not around during A New Hope. But then again I also think Snoke is Maul, so what do I know...What do you think?

So.....no relationship between Wedge and the "Captain Antilles" of the Tantivie IV? 3PO mentions Captain Antilles in ANH (he's the one Vader chokes out in the opening scene) and he's mentioned in Rogue One at the end (Bail Organa says his name while exiting his last scene).
Interesting notes of the parallels in Wedge's backstories across eras before the Rebellion. The Rebels episode has me concerned, but I can get behind some aspects of it.
Honestly, what irks me to the end is that Rogue Squadron (what Wedge is most famously known for in the post-ROTJ works and interquel stories between the original trilogy) has yet to be a factor in the new Canon. Its place so far as the flight squad of choice of Luke & Wedge is currently scrubbed in as just plain old Red Squadron, save for the remaining presence of "Rogue Group" in Empire Strikes Back as a snowspeeder fleet. At this point, I can stomach Wedge dying considering Dennis isn't interested in the new films, and I appreciate Phantom Squadron better as a parallel to Wrath Squadron, but it seems criminal to me that the Rogues as a concept hasn't returned.
If the new story directors insist on sticking with Red Squadron for Luke and Wedge's X-Wing antics (or do something like make the Rogues part of the New Republic fleet that is all but decimated by Starkiller Base), all I ask then is that at least they can deliver stories that revive some of the old favorites from the Rogue Squadron history. Wes, Hobbie, Tycho Celchu, Corran Horn, and other fan favorites from the Rogues' comics and books would be massive steps in keeping the spirit of the squadron alive in new material, even without Wedge leading them (though the fact he was only a scout flying around in Aftermath at first really disheartens me as it is).

I would like to see where Wedge’s story goes in the new canon but I’m worried about it. In the old EU Wedge never cared too much about the empire, he was just a smuggler whose moral compass made him trader to both sides. The fact he never joined the Imperial Navy makes him stand out from others like Hobbie, Biggs, or Madine. I’m not saying those three were heroic (I mean Hobbie lost one of his limbs taking over the ship he worked on in the Empire while Biggs jumped ship in a TIE). But the whole defection from the Empire is such an overused troupe that if it isn’t written well (kind of like Celchu‘s or something interesting along those lines) it’s just another defector story.
That’s what I feel about Wedge in the new canon. He’s not special. It really ruins his brave yet flawed character. The character that would distance himself from new pilots in the squad in fear of getting close to them and losing them. Just like Biggs, Porkins, Dak, and heck even his family.
The only reason why I enjoy Wedge in the on EU is that he had a set way. The fact he came out of retirement three times to fight and risk his life says it all. Even though he had a wife and two daughters he believed that he had to fight to keep them safe as well as his friends and squad mates. He had even said at one point he never liked his sense of duty but followed it anyways. From what I’ve read the new canon character of Wedge is reaching for that characteristic but he’s so far away that it’s just echoing a fantastic character

Would Palpatine been displeased if he hadn't given permission? I know we'll never know but it's interesting to ponder on these things. In Legends the Pirates who killed Wedge's family DID eventually get recruited by the Empire when it was particularly desperate for crew during the Remnant/Imperial Civil War era.
Well the one that survived Wedge destroying their ship with the Z-95 he borrowed from Booster Terrik, Loka Hask did.

Surely, even ignoring the EU entirely, it does not make sense for the Disney retcon to give Wedge the backstory of an Imperial defector particularly one who defects with Hobbie, effectively making this Wedge an amalgam of Biggs and Wedge. This is assuming that the backstories of characters in the original trilogy are still "canon". Biggs' and Hobbie's defection to the Rebel Alliance is original trilogy backstory since way back when, and moreover Biggs is a Major minor character in ANH with his backstory one of the more "canonically legitimate" ones considering that George Lucas shot far more footage of Luke and Biggs which was dropped from the final cut. In subsuming Biggs' story under Wedge's, the Disney retcon is meddling with the very fabric of Original Trilogy backstory reality, is it not? Now that's disturbing.
I hope if he survives the battle of jakku (if he takes part in it) he shows in episode 8, and he meets Luke again, they where friends and it would be nice to see them together, a reunion of sorts

Mercy Kill is the least in the series. If you haven't already read them, I recommend it. The first 8 are the best, 9 is good, 10 was disappointing.

ezra is the founder of knights of ren and where do we here another ren? sabine family name although it's sabine wren, there is a similarity there. so there is a change that ezra marry sabine, and when sabine dies because of something, ezra use her family name as knights of ren in honor of her and when kylo join he change his name from ben solo to kylo ren. maybe all member of the knights of ren uses the same surname.
from this episode 3 of season 3 of rebel we know that ezra care about sabine and maybe use the dark side to save her somehow just like Anakin skywalker

wedge could also be in the new republic fleet. remember in the force awakens we only see the resistance and the people that would have the strongest connection to him (Luke or lando) aren't in the resistance group or at least not seen in the movie. therefore they can't do any name dropping
maybe Wedge is one of the New Republic Fleet Generals, but the Starkiller Base Blast killed him & the rest of Hosian Prime.
Don't forget the Resistance also has Home One and a few other Mon Calamari cruisers.
It was originally Wedge who was supposed to be looking for Luke in TFA instead of Poe.

I was really disappointed he wasn't included in the Ep. 7 space battle. Honestly I would have preferred they just outright replace Poe with Wedge, given his EU skill set. The Wedge as written by Allston and Stackpole will be among the characters I miss most in the new canon.
