I’m sure these are a lot of work, but I would love to see more speaker shootouts! Barely anyone does this on YT where it’s a direct A/B comparison. Super helpful for bro.
I love WGS speakers, I play a 1x12 with a Retro 30, but I think I prefer the Celestion in this set up. The low end of the WGS seemed a little overpowering and it just sounded a bit muffled by comparison. The blend of the two is definitely the way to go though, both together sounded incredible.
Ad add as ssszz as sssszz as a as
I use WGS VETERAN 30s in all my 4x12 cabs. I use two of them on top, and use vintage 30s , or creambacks M's , or gt12-75's on bottom. The WGS stuff is kickass man
Yeah man, that blend is INSANE.The low mids on the Warehouse sounds very pleasant and gives a nice "in the room, standing next to the cab vibe", and the top end on the Anniversary cuts just enough without that upper-mid V30 spike harshness. Definitely gonna need to try this out the next time I need to do any tracking with some extreme metal guys.
I have a G12H30 and this is a very accurate representation (I love it in my set-up). Great work, man, there is a lot of YT videos on guitar speakers that sound nothing like the actual speaker's in-person sound.
Great video man~! Thanks for taking the time!
In a warmer amp like my Orange OR15 I could see that high end presence in the G12H30 coming in handy. I think the Reaper would sound better in a bright amp like a Marshall since it's warmer.
Exact video I was looking for! Crazy! Thanks. I own the evh cabinet and was looking for a comparison to the reaper! Informative...
The Celestion GH-30 has more Presence and should cut better through the mix comparing to the Reaper which sounds too dark to me.
Amazing content as usual Kyle, thanks so much. I have the EVH cab with the G12H-30 and i think if you dial in the resonance a bit more u will find the G12H can sound very brutal on the low end. I like it a lot as it cuts like a knife. That being said i would be very interested to try the veteran myself. What would be real cool is if you could compare the G12H-30 and the G12EVH which i have not been able to try. Was interested in getting the G12EVH to see how it compares.
They sound both great! My go-to cab setup is a 2x12 open back loaded with Wgs Reaper paired with a 2x12 closed back loaded with v30. The open back is a Twsp and the closed back is a Engl, i play mainly thrash/death/sludge and they pair perfectly together!
Reaper 30 for me. Comparison was well done. G12H-30 to bright, i have them in my cab not a fan. I might make the switch, im a 80's hair metal guy playing a Friedman BE-100 and hate my EVH cab, you've given me hope!!
I ran into this one today because I have this 90s Carvin cab with G12s-50s in it. Those are a small magnet speaker. The g12h is a heavy magnet. I ran into two of these for a good price and will have them by next week. I can't WAIT to pair them in the same cab! You just gave me a little taste of what I'm about to experience! Great vid by the way.
Thanks man! Hope you dig the speakers. They're very bright and tight
To my ears, the only scenario where the warehouse speaker was better was in drop tuning.
I’m about to combine reapers and Celestion vintage 30s in a Marshall 1960b cab. I have a feeling they’re going to sound great together.
That is awesome !
Did they sound killer or did you chuck the idea !?
You are providing some of the best guitar gear content out there 🤜🤛
Agreed.
Is the comparison about blanket vs no blanket over cab? Thanks to let me know that I’ll keep celestion originals on my amps 😅
On the high gain standard tuning stuff the WGS has a kind of late '80s death metal tone. In drop C it kind of reminded me of Incantation.
Great vid bud, I'm looking at replacing the Celestion Rocket 50s in my Laney cab, I've wanted WGS Reapers for a while. My amp (Laney Ironheart 120) can be bright, so I think the darkness of the Reaper will help my setup
Finally someone did a 30 watt instead of the HP reaper. Great speaker?, i got 2 with 2 Retros which are bitier like the celestion but more bass it seems. Great pairing!
Hey Kyle,
thank you for your job.
because of you i'm right now ordering an omega granophyre x)
keep boosting ;)
Seriously awesome comparison video. Love how the creamback sounds like. I feel like could blend well with a dv77. I didn't like so much the reaper.
I came for the speaker comparison and stayed for the Alkaline Trio riff. Goddamnit, that's a good one. Nearly broke my "Clavicle" air drumming. (Buh dum tsss!)
Just putting a new pairing together in a 2x12. The G12H30 Anny and a G12H-75 Cream. Hoping for that cut from the Anny and to get a nice balanced tone throughout with that Creamback filling in elsewhere. Fingers crossed!
How’d it go?
@Rael0505 Went for a pair of H75 Creambacks in the end. Not a fan of the Anniversary.
Really informative video, thanks, Metal Matt Damon.
The combo of a Reaper HP (50 watt) and Retro 30 which i slapped in a Marshall MX212B cabinet is the frackin' bizzzz. I'm willing to bet that combining it with either a veteran 30 or Celestion V30 would yield badass results as well.
Nice video Kyle-been thinking about changing 1 of my speaker s in my eh
I think a smoother speaker combined with the h30 definitely evens things out!
This celestion is a great speaker. Makes me wonder how much brighter it is in-person because the Reaper is noticeably so much darker. Cant go wrong with either
The Reaper isn't dark, i have them. It's just that the Celestion really bright...
I've got the stealth 50 into evh 3 212 cab with stock speaker 70th anniversary has way too much bass and very dark So it's a crap shoot.
I've been building my own amps for a while now and I've since switched to WGS for pretty much everything. Nothing wrong with Celestion, don't get me wrong, and has nothing to do with the price. What I've noticed is that the WGS speakers seem to have been "idealized" for a full band mix. With my Celestion speakers I've noticed how, in a full mix, they seem to disappear except for the high end, where the WGS counterparts always remain full. I always prefer the Celestion speakers when it's just me playing by myself, but I always prefer the WGS speakers during a gig or band rehearsal. The best way that I can describe it is that the Celestions "cut" or "slice" through a mix, where the WGS models tend to "slam" through it.
Same with my custom cabinets. Nothing beats them.
Yeah , I agree. 1+1=3 here meaning both are okay individually but sounded much better together.
A par of each in a 4x12 would sound awesome.
Kyle we want quickrod vs 5150 comparison
Yes
Found the Reaper’s low end darkness preferable for the drop tuned metal, but the Celestion’s brightness really popped on the other riffs
Reapers do sound great. I had two in a 2x12, and I loved that cab but I think I prefer the G12H here.
G'day mate =) Thanks for the video. Could you please make played in video when possible, to show how the speakers developed?
That WGS Blows the Celestian out of the water!
I think one of each or two of each would work well together 👍
Yes-the G12H30 chugs!!
I know this is a speaker video but I love that schecter! I haven't messed much with speakers but its good to have videos like this as a resouce
I need to swap speakers in a Marshall cab that has t75s. Why is committing to a speaker so difficult?
Hey bro I know that your a standard E type of guy and was wondering why you don't use C standard instead of drop C since you like the standard stuff so much? Metallica tuned down to C standard whenever they recorded The Thing That Should Not Be on the puppet's album.just curious because they were mainly E standard guys as well and so am I.
They do sound good mixed!
I prefer the reaper because it has more of a scooped sound, but I wouldn’t swap either one out for the other,if that makes sense
I liked more the Low Gain riff with the G12H, but the High Gain one I preffered the Reaper 30. I think this celestion can be a good a pair with the Jensen 65 Stealth on my Crate GX212 that I got loaded with just one of the original speakers for less money than the Jensen speaker itself.
excellent. Thank you.
I don't see it as the reaper is more balanced. I see it as it's inferior sounding. It sounded muffled and kinda woofy. The Celestion sounded really good with great definition. Thanks for the vid man! I'd like to compare the Celestion g12h and the EVH Celestion and Greenback. The reaper did sound better on the "in the room" mic but still the g12h still sounds better to me.
By itself, the G12H-30 sounds better because it is brighter, but in a mix I would rather the WGS Reaper since it isnt as bright.
That's counter intuitive. A brighter speaker will cut through better within a band mix.
@@gearoftones8585 yes it would, but you would end up having to cut the brightness out in a mix because it's going to step all over the other frequencies. I also ended up making my mixes a little brighter from the start so in my mix a brighter speaker can cause issues.
@@LucasLeCompteMusic to be fair, I found it too bright myself. I had it in an AC15 but i still think it would cut through well. It just wasn't to my taste.
Great video. I'm a fan of WGS speakers. Have a cabinet that I put them into. That said, the Reaper sounds muddy to me. All the upper mids to highs are cut off. Not a fan of this particular speaker. Reminds me more of the G12T75 than the G12H.
Is the G12H Anniversary speaker that comes in the EVH 2X12 cabinets the same, as regular G12H, or is there a difference?
The G12H30 outs chugs the other 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
The Warehouse sounds a little congested.
Did you break the WGS Speaker in by playing 12+ hours through it at loud volume? I hear you’re supposed to do that and it might be the reason for them sounding very different?
I LOVE the WGS Veteran 30's that replaced Celestion vintage 30's in an opened back combo amp of mine. They were everything that I wanted. The Vin 30's are just too bright for me and how I'm using them. I also replaced a stock speaker with a WGS ET90 in another tube combo and couldn't be happier with it. SO much fuller and more balanced. But how does WGS get away with saying the Reaper is a drop-in replacement for the G12H-30 and why do they bother? These two aren't interchangeable. I'm sure you could dial either in to be more like the other, but it's like they are implying it's a clone while also saying they don't make clones... They do make REALLY good speakers though that can definitely re-shape a harsh or stale amp! I really like mine for everything they are and are not. I'm not sure which speaker I'd choose but would probably have more luck opening up the Reaper than taming the G12H-30's.?
the mix was the best. but if i can only choose one, its gonna be the WAREHOUSE again. it just sounds better to me
Celestion for me, my setup has Celestion and I love it.
So next do the veteran 30 vs the reaper
I mostly play in e flat. Id say say i like the wgs versions better for standard tuning
Funny. The reaper speakers sound like the stock speakers in the evh and the evh speakers sound like when the reaper speakers should sound like
Can i use 30w speakers in a 2x12 60w combo amp? Do i break them?
Great vidoeee, brah.
How are the EVH 2x12s compared to Mesa? Any experience with the EVH 1x12s? Wondering if they're too boxy or sound good
I Don't know about the 112 but the 212 has tons of bass, punch and sheer volume projection with my stealth 50 Watt head into the EVH 5150 III 212 cab I've got.
I prefer the Celestion G12H30 Heritage to either of these . It sound much closer to the originals .
I’m going to pick the reaper
The G12Hs sound better for the low and mid gain rock/punk rock style and Reaper sounded better with lower tuning! Sounded great together but really need to try a Vet30 with the Reaper instead
Love the Celestian anniversaries in those EVH cabs !!
Great speakers for sure, really starting to dig them!
They sound night and day different. The G12 is thin, tight, and crisp, the reaper is thick, and wooly.
The drop C riff is from a song?
I think it would be the reaper for me 🤘
G12H30 have a more sizzly high end with more mids, the WGS is more balanced smoother with not much sizzle.
Warehouse makes KILLER speakers
Celestion FTW!
The Reaper HP is better than the Reaper 30 and it doesn't get as much coverage on UA-cam for some reason. The HP version has a fuller range than the 30.
Who remembers when the WGS speakers were $25? (Of course shipping made up for a lot of it)
🤘🏽🤘🏽
Hard to choose
I, too, identify as a dorky dude who plays thrash riffs in E-tuning.
It sounded like the Reaper needed to be broken in.
Reapers for sure, imo.
You obviously know better how they sound. Please provide your personal opinion
It’s hard to beat any Celestion tbh 😅
I really dislike the G12H its spikey and thin to my ears, Im sure its better for styles different than what I like to play though.
wayyyy prefer the reaper 30
People can’t help but listen with their eyes, you need to do this blind next time :)
Wharehouse
The warehouse speaker sounds like shit tbh
