  • The Artist Formula: www.driesketels.com/
In 2017, Anna Weyant was just one step away from transforming her life, from an unknown artist to a multimillionaire whose work flipped the art scene on its head. Back then, at 22, Anna was fighting not just to sell her art but to earn respect for it beyond her looks. She left her small town for New York with big dreams and art priced at $400-barely selling enough to scrape by. Fast forward to 2021, and everything changes. Her art skyrockets from $400 to selling for millions, making her the youngest artist represented by the prestigious Gagosian Gallery. But how did this astronomical rise happen? Anna met just one pivotal person who introduced her to key figures in the art world, skyrocketing her career and social standing.
This isn't just Anna's story; it’s a reflection of a larger truth in the art world-and beyond. It's not about the art itself, the notes, the colors, the composition. No, it’s all about the social interactions, the connections, the ability to navigate and leverage these to your advantage. This video dives deep into how the art market really works, why billionaires don’t just buy art for its aesthetic but for the social opportunities it brings.
I'll also share personal reflections on how similar realizations impacted my own dreams, comparing my youthful love for music and how social dynamics eventually overshadowed the actual music itself. By the end, I hope to show you that whether you’re an artist, a musician, or any kind of dreamer, understanding the power of social dynamics can redefine your path to success.
Want to really understand how to leverage social dynamics in your career? Tune in as I decode the secrets of the art market giants like Sotheby's and MoMA, and offer actionable advice that could drastically change your professional landscape. Don’t miss out-this could be the turning point you’ve been waiting for!

The person who understood this very well was Jean-Michel Basquiat. He became famous thanks to his style and his connection. . I did no school art but have an MBA in communication and I worked several years in the corporate world this helps me a lot. You can learn art by yourself but if you cannot communicate and being social you could lose a lot of opportunities. In the meantime I really like your channel it is clear and precise alongside CAI it is one of my favorite art channels.

That’s assuming a lot, don’t you think?! Why is it that men always assume that if a woman is pretty and successful, that the only reason she became successful is because she slept with someone. Get over yourself. Her art is beautifully done, she’s probably also a beautiful human being who enjoyed the opportunity to be connected as well. Is it the ugly green monster of jealousy raising its head? Sometimes, just once in a while, mind you, a woman can ACTUALLY do well because she’s talented, smart, intelligent, and pretty and NOT because she gave up her “kitty”, as you so eloquently put it.

I agree with your summation and reject the need to do that.
As an artist I hide my signature in my work because I intentionally want to focus on the work and not the maker.
But I am not creating for a living.
    It is not my career.
And I don't intend it to be so.
Sure in daydreams it is cool to think of selling art I love and getting rich, but I am not creating to get rich but because creating fulfills me.

I believe the painting that got Gagosian interested in her "art" was called: Head ......Her art then increased in "value" because he said he wanted to "protect" her 😅
My knee jerk reaction of her art prior to knowing of her sleeping situation was that she catered to the whimsical erotic sort and that flock of feather is ridiculous and exclusive....The fact that the media acted as if she was the first one to paint with a palette that has been seen in Asian scroll painting for hundreds of years let me know what time it was😂 Curiously they never called the scroll painters Botticelli 🤔🤨
    Good short one...

But, I shall say that even though I prefer abstract art and would never buy her paintings for my house (too figurative, dark and heavy for me), I do think she is talented and that they are unique and authentic. The truth is also that Robert Scull became rich after his father-in-law left him a share of his taxi business. And because he had a large ego he organized an auction that turned a bunch of semi-talented narcissist dudes who hadn’t sold anything into famous contemporary artists. This woman is a much better painter than Damien Hirst (who also had his big break because the founder of the world’s largest advertising agency was having mancrushes on pseudo-edgy art bros and threw money at them).

I worked for "Keff Joons" for 11 years (you know who I mean). He had the same dealer.
Its absolutely true that where you show your work greatly affects the price it can go for. I have an old friend/acquaintance from Jeff's who is probably one of the best painters in the world. He got in with O. Nerdrum and that group, makes a full time living from his art, shows in NYC, does big commissions, etc. But he's not making anywhere near the money he'd be making if he was with someone like Gagosian... Even though his work is better, and I'd say more interesting, than most of the work Gogo sells

C’mon, she is average at BEST, if you ignore the fact that she is a total Curren clone and that her work is total kitsch, and not in a good way. If this slapper hadn’t taken a ride on an old idiot she would NOT be flying so high, and that’s a FACT. And the fact that she fucked Gagosian to ‘make it’s will be a permanent stain on her credibility. So whenever she leaves him she will completely crash and burn because no serious curator is going to touch her work and those that bought her shite will wake up realising paintings they paid millions for are close to worthless on the secondary market 😂
