well it's a lathe ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxN9zrzkkhnjUF5PQbuA_B1gYdsfCu9k6z but it wasn't what i would have anticipated. Headstock, tailstock, carriage apron are manufactured from aluminum now not cast iron. The spindle diameter for the bearings is too small allowing for a few play in the spindle so I am using some blue Loctite to take out the play.
Very impressed with your initiative. Quality work. Please watch your fingers when drilling and consider clamping rather than hand holding, I know from experience!
Although I do not understand all the ramifications and I am not a machinist this looks very nice! I thought DC was better but the operation and instant forward to reverse is superb!! Wow well done!
Thank you for showing, nice work, also good video. Have a good day.
Had to upgrade my Sieg C3 as the board burnt out. Went with a C6374 from Ebay, a 60amp esc and servo tester, all powered by a 24v 25amp power supply. I now have 2.7kw instead of 350w. It cost approximately $160au which is $30 less than the price of a new replacement board. It all works as standard, even the speed indicator.
Can you still cut threads with ac motor conversion?? Does after conversion the lathe has all the capabilities that had before with the dc?? especially threading and auto feed?
IIt didn't take me long to burn out my 500w motor on my chinese lathe so I replaced it with a 2400w motor from a useless mulcher I had ,as for the pulleys I changed them to multi-v [they last longer ] ,That enabled me to make a simple clutch I have made a lot of changes to my chinese lathe ,now I can make a reasonable depth of cut on alloy steels i
First, always cover the ways with a board when you change the chuck, Second, a good set of taper roller bearings in the spindle will do wonders for runout and noise.

such a question, would you buy it again with this money?
Well done young man someone in your life took the time to teach you skills that you demonstrated during this video. Who ever it was, your dad an uncle, a friend or maybe a shop teacher. Whom ever it was “ Bravo” for taking the time to teach him right, skills that will last him a lifetime and memories he will carry and share for ever. America needs to get our kids away from the shootem up videos and out to the garage or basement to share more one on one time and build stuff. Young man keep up the good and impressive work.
How slow can you take the speed on the lathe now and still get a good cut? Are you happy with the motor upgrade still? Thank you so much for the video!
He shows it at 5:55, it’s an XSY-AT1, 2.2kw I think (from the 2200 in the model number field). They’re a popular cheap VFD, just search it on aliexpress. I think you can find them for $70-85 shipped.
Excellent! Never occurred to me to go AC with my mini lathe. I have a 3/4 hp 3ph motor laying around that I've been wondering what to do with. I may have to try this. Well done!
Interesting conversion to a much better three phase variable frequency controlled lathe - more torque, wider speed range. Just shows what can ve done by those who try. BobUK
Damn, neat! Never thought of using my lathe as a scraper! Woot! I was going to grind down my key but instead I'll scrape the key slot in the pulley! Sweet
Nice mod for an old mini lathe. The new 7x16 mini lathes from Little machine Shop and Micro mark come with powerful brushless DC motors that have so much low end torque that the noisy 2 speed gearbox is not required. Their mini mills use the same motor, and they are really quiet as well as powerful.
Very nice work, I must do the same to mine G4000 because the motor it is not working very good. Thank you for sharing, and have a good day.
I almost learned the hard way myself, although it was a much smaller part and at worst would only have cut my finger open; still, doesn’t take much if the drill bit catches the work.
good job now all you need is a quick change toll post and a tool rack with all the parts on it keep up the good work. my family say we are related to a Spanish general the torre part .
No sé. Muchas gracias. Saludos MyGreystoke
I wouldnt have replaced that motor. Some gearing changes are all thats needed on these Chinesium lathes. I would have however invested some money into those spindle bearings because your sound like they are going to explode any second now. happy machining !!
when I bought that chinese lathe 20 years ago it came with an ac motor.the thin belt had some kind of problem they kept shredding and at 35 dollars back then the lathe wasnt worth it
You not only can do machinist work ,you are also good at electronics! Nice job.
That is a true transformation, like transforming David Banner into the Hulk !

Nice video! Thanks for sharing. Very satisfying end result
muy bueno.. que transmision dentada estas usando??
Thank you for this video! It's very easy solution but with a big upgrade! good job!
Thank you for showing, nice work, also good video. Have a good day.
Really impressed with your anvil and the hammer you used. Very nice video and appreciate the acoustic guitar background. Thank you sir.

You're solution is better, this is not a good induction motor application.
You should write an article detailing how to do it. I’m sure there are plenty of people who would love to be able to do the same.
Can you still cut threads with ac motor conversion?? Does after conversion the lathe has all the capabilities that had before with the dc?? especially threading and auto feed?
Yes, you can, as the connection between the main spindle and the feed spindle is untouched. At around 06:05 you can see this quite well.
IIt didn't take me long to burn out my 500w motor on my chinese lathe so I replaced it with a 2400w motor from a useless mulcher I had ,as for the pulleys I changed them to multi-v [they last longer ] ,That enabled me to make a simple clutch I have made a lot of changes to my chinese lathe ,now I can make a reasonable depth of cut on alloy steels i
Now that was a sweet ass job on that . now you have a bad ass motor with plenty of power great video !
First, always cover the ways with a board when you change the chuck, Second, a good set of taper roller bearings in the spindle will do wonders for runout and noise.

Good job Mr Gonzalez
How slow can you take the speed on the lathe now and still get a good cut? Are you happy with the motor upgrade still? Thank you so much for the video!
Also, what pulley system are you using?
Great work. Gives others the inspiration to do likewise... Good video.
What size toothed pulleys did you use? and what timing belt profile?
Hi, I'm thinking of buying a lathe. I have seen with brushless motors. Would you recommend with that type of brushless motor? thanks for your answer
Nice! Would you have/share the schematics for the variable frequency drive?
He shows it at 5:55, it’s an XSY-AT1, 2.2kw I think (from the 2200 in the model number field). They’re a popular cheap VFD, just search it on aliexpress. I think you can find them for $70-85 shipped.

What motor and vfd did you use
Show Off! Nicely done!!!
Excellent work.
Nice work!! Impressed!!
Excellent work!
Hi, how it works the rpm indicator?
I mean, the proximity read the magnet on the axis bar, and then? It gives directly the signal to that display?
thanks dear ... but can you tell us , from where you got these 2 Motor Pulleys @ 01:40
can you give me the link where you bought the engine speed display (rpm)? thank you
This is definitely a huge improvement to these bench top lathes.....well done.
Good Idea and great work.
But IT can be dangerous.
Each three-jaw chuck(Dreibackenfutter) only has a certain maximum speed limit!!!
Tudo ficou muito top, show demais meu irmão parabéns aqui do Brasil!!👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Oi!
As you did the speed display. It is a mathematical transmission in the inverter or a speed sensor on the spindle.
Very nice work sir.
Interesting conversion to a much better three phase variable frequency controlled lathe - more torque, wider speed range. Just shows what can ve done by those who try. BobUK
Next is, I suppose, to install ball screws, steppers, controller and to have CNC lathe :-). Excellent job!
2:22
Interesting technique.
Damn, neat! Never thought of using my lathe as a scraper! Woot! I was going to grind down my key but instead I'll scrape the key slot in the pulley! Sweet
Well done brother.

Nice job; well implemented. Have you had any issues in the gear train with the big increase in power?
Very nice Aless! I like your step wise approach to this project.
Good Job. Now it have power enough.
Very nice work, I must do the same to mine G4000 because the motor it is not working very good. Thank you for sharing, and have a good day.
Hello. The optimum choice is 180x300 or proxxon pd 250 e. What is the reason.
Very nice! Is that a proximity sensor? What function did you have it perform? Also are you able to provide a wiring diagram? Thanks!
Chad Atkins tachometer
Awesome 👍👍👍
how much hp/wattage does the new motor have? and how well does it cut?
Qual a potência do motor elétrico instalado?
Excelente trabajo!!!
Nice work Only the ratio of poly should be minimum 2 to 1 in direct paddle
What does this mean..? Can you re phrase please for a novice.. Thanks.
I can't believe you held that bracket with your hand while drilling it. Good way to tear your fingers off.
I almost learned the hard way myself, although it was a much smaller part and at worst would only have cut my finger open; still, doesn’t take much if the drill bit catches the work.
Nice job , well done.

that model lathe is now called TU2004V and it is variable like the older model
Good music as well!

What's good about going ac? Just wondering what all the benefits are. 💪
Foley model and size?

Nice soldering :)))
Nicely done!!!
Nice ! how much price this lathe ?
I have this lathe. I want to do what you did. Im not sure what to get and from where. I need to run it on 120v.
Plz I need your knowledge
when I bought that chinese lathe 20 years ago it came with an ac motor.the thin belt had some kind of problem they kept shredding and at 35 dollars back then the lathe wasnt worth it

Really nice Aless. Just a question though. Was the main reason for the change more power only or are there other benefits you were looking for?
a bit late but a i believe that AC motors have full torque at lower speeds which DC motors do not
Aless, Nice Modification! May I ask what is the H/P of your new Motor?
@Jayce Decker Uh...? Why?
Why you dont use servo drive?
expensive and no real benefit, except if you convert the whole lathe to CNC.
@@PyroShim 1.8kW servo from aliexpress 110st-06030 about $400 kit, your motor + frequency converter = about $250.
