- Опубліковано 14 жов 2024
- Si was lucky enough to catch up with Ed Pratt, who is the first person to cycle around the world on a unicycle. His 22,000-mile trip took Ed over 3 years and we caught him now that he's back on home soil.

You may well know of Ed Pratt from the videos he has produced along the way on his adventure. Ed achieved a world first by circumnavigating the globe on a unicycle. Ed's trip covered around 22,000 miles and he averaged around 50 miles each riding day. He had a total of 80 punctures over the trip and repairing a 36-inch inner tube we'd imagine is not easy. A super interesting guy and what an adventure. This has got to be one of the more unique records we've seen!

Fantastic video! Thank you Si and Tom for coming out a day before the end :) was great to meet you both. And Si, sorry about the chest pains!
Ed Pratt Haha, I took myself to A and E that afternoon in the end! How are you doing? Acclimatising to Somerset or back on the road?
my two favorite channels in one video 😍
Ed are you going to progressively release more videos as you used to?
Adam Pearson Working on ‘em, yep. But there’s been a lot to get through. Editing South East Asia at the minute
Well done Ed! You smashed it.
Holy shit Ed on GCN!! Been following this guy forever.
Same hes so underrated on yt
Simon's attempt to ride the unicycle is not bad at all!! Good job!
Not many are able to get away from the fence on day 1:)
exactly!
I have no idea how long he practiced for but it took me a couple days before I could ride even 10 feet without holding on to something. I'm totally impressed by how quick he got the hang of it. 😋
Yea i was only going like ten feet after riding like 4 hours a day for like 5 day
Quite impressive actually
how i envy those who come across Ed just now through this video. i remember discovering his channel and binge watching his epic journey.
same
And if this is your first Ed experience, you really should go and check him out. He's a bit subdued in this vid.
Yes we recommend checking out his channel!
just done just that.. helped this boring lockdown friday pass quickly
That beer looked awfully watery.
Perhaps this is Dan Lloyd's famed mineral water
Awfully expensive in that pub, too.
Ed is vegan now so...
@@Nairuulagch beer doesnt contain animal products..
@@Nairuulagch Is that so ?
'What an absolute legend'. That about sums up my thoughts. Really cool stuff and looks like a genuinely nice guy.
He sure is, an amazing achievement!
the hell that's so impressive using a unicycle is not that easy but travelling and bike packing around the world damn that's so impressive af
Super impressive!
Had the pleasure meeting Ed and he stayed for two days while he traveled across Australia. Huge congratulations on this achievement
That's so awesome you helped him along his journey!
This is so cool. I found Mark Beaumont through GCN. Then I found Ed through Mark's 80 days around the world videos. And now Ed is on GCN too :-)
Awesome!
I love to listen to Ed's voice. He has the perfect voice to narrate UA-cam videos.
As a two-wheel traveller, I started following Ed's truly epic-beyond-imagination trip at least a year and a half ago. A gentleman, great film maker and amazing adventurer.
this ed Pratt kid is a legend....what a story and i bet we will hear form him in the future
Wow Ed makes it onto GCN - wonderful end to an amazing adventure
Ed has great content on his channel. He is a great Ambassador for the UK. Thanks GCN for showing this, it is nice to see something different every now and then!
I've seen all his videos over the years and can't wait for the new ones! Congratulations! What an achievement! Unbelievable!
Ed's journey is pretty darn amazing. To unicycle around the world is pretty epic
It sure is pretty epic!
Ed is an inspiration to young people and a treasure to the human race in general.
Amazing achievement to a beautiful, patient, compassionate soul.
I wish him every success.
People like him are so fvcking amazing! I do not know how people just resign from everyday life and responsibilities and live!
Si's Shades keep getting more outrageous... I love it!! 😍👌
😎
This guy is awesome! Probably the best videos on UA-cam! I cant wait to see his U.S. videos.
Great video and a great guy. Got the pleasure of riding with him for a day myself
UniMart That's so cool, where did you ride with him?
@@gcn we rode Leicester to Birmingham. 50 miles. The video is on my channel. I'd been following his progress since I first got on a unicycle and realising long distance is possible on them.
Went back to catch this. I will come back to this, and of course Matt's crash video for smiles on a bad day! Thanks GCN, Si, and Matt.
Huge fan
Watched them all
If you have not go find his channel
It’s Pure joy to watch
I’ve been a follower of Ed Pratt for years. A subscriber to GCN, its great to see the two combine efforts. Excellent Sunday surprise. (And...happy to see Ed complete his global quest.) Congratulation Ed and wow(!) quick study on the Unicycle. Beer was a good choice.
Cheers James, glad you enjoyed it!
I have never met Ed, don't know if I ever can (but I want to), but through his videos, which I have watched every single one of, it feels to you like he is both, a known friend but also a celebrity. I would really take it as an honor to meet him, I would even want to cycle the 880m I am living away from him (being a bike fan just like him, who MIGHT do a world trip on the bike one day. Definately a possibility).
Legend, for real !
This should become a contest. And his English is so agreeable to hear. Ed Pratt, the name of a brand?!
Massive commitment and for a great cause, well done Ed Pratt and thanks for bringing us the story GCN.
You're welcome Tom, glad you enjoyed it
Great to see Ed again, almost home! Can't wait to see his new videos!
brilliant Ed, and respect to Simon for riding that unicycle across the car park after no time at all. Well done
Hey GCN, Hire Ed!!!
He could be the host of some amazing shows on the BBC or itv.
He’s not a cyclist!! On one video he said he knows nothing about bikes. No passion in cycling, just one wheel, so no to GCN
He is a living legend! now that you have taken up adventure travel more and more lately, it would be fun to include him in upcoming videos as well!!
Yes GCN, give this man a job!
The True Legend
Amazing video 📹 such an inspiration! Always think 🤔 💭 Si is the right guy for these type of interviews he seems to strike up great rapport with folk. This is why I luv GCN and luv eccentricity! Ed is a legend (needs more publicity, should he wish)!!
Ouch! Look in the direction that you want to go. Positive mantra for any type of goal!
That's an amazing accomplishment, friggin' fantastic what people are able to do. Great job Ed.
mental ! the man is totally mental ( in the nicest way possible )
was grinning throughout the video. the interview too was lovely. thank you
I’m smiling from ear to ear from Ed and this video. Thanks, GCN for keeping it light and sharing such clearly heartfelt and humble people who bring passion to the world. We need more of this everyday.
You're welcome Seth, glad you enjoyed this one with Ed
just seeing how he takes off/mounts on to the unicycle is a marvel in itself. how could he not tip over by that swing, considering all those stuff he's carrying, is just amazing.
It's very impressive!
Every GCN subscriber should subscribe to Ed's channel, the young man is on a mission and his videos are world class. So let's DO IT everyone!
Sad that this isn't getting more views. What Ed did was truly amazing.
Wow, great work Ed. Hadn’t heard anything about your trip previously but definitely going to head over to your channel to learn more :)
YAY Ed! Huge congrats! Was an honor to randomly run into you in the mountains of Vietnam last year. Super video guys!
Cheers Mark, how awesome you got to cycle with him for a bit!
i think you could imagine our initial shock when you come across someone descending a remote mountain on a unicycle! truly lovely guy to chat with. I sent a photo of him on the uploader a couple days ago, enjoy! he embodies #gcninspiration !
i did not think i would care for this, and thought it to be a novelty thing but upon viewing i find myself impressed. this is quite the journey ! very humbling. Bravo Ed ! someone should make a movie about you. what charity was it that you raised the money for ?
j en uk.virginmoneygiving.com/worldunicycletour :)
LEGEND !!!
Stoked to see Ed on GCN. The guy is a legend!
Watched this vid. Led me to watch some of Ed's own you tubes. Excellent documentaries Ed. Mature beyond your years. I kind of think you ought to think a bit bigger than the GCN approach. Your more like a future David Attenborough if you want to be. Worthy of a following in the millions, rather than thousands. Great effort...... Royal Britania!!
I've been following Ed for a while now, he's just amazing.
Legend
this guy is amazing!!! good job sir ed...!!
Thank you for the video! Please, GCN, give us mooooore unicycle-related videos!
If you haven't binged Ed's videos yet, you are truly missing out. Inspirational stuff!
my two favorite channels in one video
I ran into Ed in Virginia on the Blue Ridge Parkway a few days after I had started my TransAm trip. I couldn’t believe he had climbed all the way up there! I am so glad you filmed this and provided a link to his channel. I didn’t know he had one.
Cheers Jon, how cool you got to be part of his journey!
Simply Amazing ❤️❤️❤️
Ed is so adorable!!! 😍😍😍
I love Ed! Thanks for meeting up with him and letting we who follow him know what he has been up to! Good job on the video!
Well done Ed, a wonderfully British eccentric achievement. BTW mate, the world's changed a bit while you've been away. You won't believe who's President of the US.....
Newsflash, our paychecks haven't suffered as a result. And he's going to win again. More importantly, nice ride kid.
Paul R no one believes who is president of the US.
pietkrijger amazing in the same way it is amazing that any one watches reality tv.
MAGA
Blech! So apologetic and worried. 😟
Legend.
Love the wrist band mirror
Great story
Well done Ed! Been following your trip the past years - looking forward to seeing the final vids!
Saw the title of this video and rolled my eyes. Ended up watching the whole thing. Amazing!
Well, glad you enjoyed it in the end
Simon thanks for this interview with Ed. Ed please write a illustrated book if your journey, I’ll love to read about your adventures
What a total legend!
*Ed is the man!*
That's nuts. I'm bummed I'm just now hearing about this legendary trip.
You're lucky there is an excellent series of videos to watch on his channel
Amazing and inspiring.
Ed, we are waiting for those new videos! Great Job!
I know it's only 8 out of nearly 2000 people, but how can 8 people conceivably dislike this? What is to dislike? That you offered him a beer and bought him water?
It totally baffles me.
Great video - loved it.
Cheers Ian for the support
Definitely legendary! Cheers Ed!
That little clip toward the end looks like Bluff in NZ? ...also the terminus of the TA thru hike. Incredible accomplishment. Good for you!
Thanks Simon, I noticed a nice shot of The Flinders Ranges along The Cattle Track. Have hiked to the top of that Summit. Glad Ed has made it home safe.
It's a uni-Si-cle!
What an amazing achievement! (For both Ed and Si, but mostly Ed)
Yes I think Ed managed to unicycle a few more miles than Si 😉
Several orders of magnitude, really, but yeah, it's just a bit further.
Great video - Ed is such an inspirational and upbeat guy. This is an awesome story.
Ed is an amazing young man, I have followed his journey since he started. Looking forward to the footage of his time in America. I really wish I could have met up with him when he was going through Texas, but time wouldn't allow it. Maybe on his next trip around the world? 😏
Awesome! Hopefully, there will be a next time...
Kudos Ed! An amazing adventure.
WOW!
Watching Ed on his unicycle brings back so many wonderful childhood memories. Although I never really got it down 100% I tried for months lol but the memories lay with my father. He was amazing on a unicycle and I can remember going on bike rides and him for shits and giggles bringing his uni along for the trip. I wouldve loved to have seen him on one of these beasts with disc brakes unfortunately dad is past his prime years and I dont think I'll ever get to see him on a unicycle again. Maybe it's time to bust it out the garage and give it another go now that I'm 20 years older N probably 150 pounds lighter, yes I was huge at just over 350lbs when I finished high school, currently I'm 173lbs so quite the difference lmao.
I'm here to encourage you. Do it!
In fact, I should encourage myself as well. Let's get back to unicycling!
Glad to see he's well. he hasn't uploaded in a while.
Wow, Legend!
Ed talked at a DofE talk I was at, amazing stuff!
just wow Congrats on the amazing achievement! and greeting from South Africa
Thanks Jonathan! An epic achievement
What a mind blowing achievement.
What a bloke! What an amazing achievement, Ed! Well done!! BTW, great video too... Thanks Si.
Cheers Stuart, glad you enjoyed this one
Fantastic! Please, do more cycle touring videos!
At least he doesn't have to worry about locking. Unless a circus clown is lurking.
lolololololololo
Insane clown posse
The thing is he has like an $800 uni. That’s much more expensive then I expected.
still worth scrap to a smackhead
What an achievement! Absolutely awesome!
We think so!
Great video. What an amazing achievement! Simply marvellous well done Ed!
An awesome achievement!
Amazing
Finally! I've been waiting for this video since you teased it on Instagram a few weeks back at least.
Haha, hopefully, it was worth the wait!
Yay, Ed!
Great job , Ed
Wow 7 months in Kyrgyzstan! My home country! Good job!
Hello GCN. What a tour! Hello Ed. Are you in England. Ed you are awsome. If you ever run for office, I will vote for you. You are a super lad. Good job going round the world. Love from USA.👍
Hi Christian, we are in England yes
I've REALLY enjoyed Ed's UA-cam channel since I stumbled on it a year and half ago or thereabouts. Congrats on a successful circumnavigation, Ed! GCN, I'm really enjoying your "unconventional" content lately - all the bike packing and similar videos (still love the tech & race content, too). Cheers & thanks so much!
Cheers Patrick, glad you have enjoyed our recent content! Any suggestions you have for what else you would like to see on the channel we would love to hear!
Absolutely incredible feat!
Sure is!
I'm impressed by how he sets off, that looks like the hardest part. That is truly impressive.
It's a lot tougher than it looks!
Fantastic achievement!
Sure is Lee!
agreed - absolute legend. check out when he met Beaumont. Good luck Ed!
He sure is pretty impressive!
absolute legend'
