I live in a small city in china, often go out walking in the hills around my city. His experience with the people helping out and generally just being lovely is very true here too. I have bumped into loads of farmers and fishermen who invite me to their house for dinner, want to give me tea or alcohol and are very pleased to meet me out in the middle of nowhere. Five or six years ago when I was fairly new in China (and couldn’t speak much Chinese) I went for a cycle out in the sticks, miles from anywhere. I punctured a tyre and for whatever reason didn’t have my kit on me. I was stranded and had to walk a few hours back to the nearest village. Went into the only local shop I could find to ask for a puncture repair kit and instead the shopkeeper phoned a few friends who all came round and decided they were going to fix my bike for me. Salt of the earth. I don’t think in England if a foreigner turned up out the blue in a rural setting hardly being able to speak the language, they would be met with anywhere near as much kindness.
@@Beetrecca You have to remember that a foreigner in England is a lot less rare of a sight than a foreigner in a Chinese rural area. Great story! It almost never fails - strangers in "strange" lands provide generous support when you need it most. This video made me miss traveling - hoping 2021 provides the opportunity.
Am I the only one concerned about Elijah LeJander?
I still can’t believe you’ve managed to achieve what you have, I’m so inspired by you! Thank you so much for documenting all of this stuff!
Loneliest Road this guy has clearly never been through the road called my life.
i drove from holland to Tengis, which is just to the right of the Caspian sea in december 1997 in an 38ton truck. The roads are the worst ive ever seen, and used the tracks at the side of them because they where smother.. Well done you, and its brought back some memories, Cheers.
Where's Elijah Lejander?
I was wondering the same thing... ah, Elijah Lejander I hope you're well.
I hope you upload more stuff like this, in depth content about some of the rougher parts of the trip is great.

Hey Ed, I watched this when you released it and all of your episodes as you released them. Currently enjoying your tandem bike trip around the south coastline, never tire of your great content.
