The current record is 123 days, and Mark aims to take 43 days from the record, that is almost 35% off of the record!
There is a support crew that follows Mark for the complete journey, including a mechanic and nutritionist to ensure that Mark is taken care of.
Mark will usually have 3 short breaks per day where he can have a quick refuel and get back on the bike again, to continue riding 16hours per day. Yep, 16hrs!
Simon logged 211km before a quick stop for lunch, probably the farthest he's done before lunch!
After 320km, you can really see that the duration is setting in on Simon, I don't blame him. It's a long time in the saddle, and psychologically it's a huge thing. Chapeau Simon. Mark has to do this 79 days more...
    Incredible.

Massive kudos to Mark. However SI-borg is the best. Your "everyday, average" guy, a love of cycling, enthusiastic to help others, and excited to show fans the cycling world. Training as he can, balancing family, work, and cycling just like the rest of us. And now 240miles in one day! An inspiration for us weekend warrior, normal folks. Great video Si, thank you; to date easily my favorite. If ever you are in Texas, look me up, we'll go ride the rolling hills festooned with wild flowers, cattle, and friendly people.

I think it's amazing to see how we can adapt our bodies in a way which probably no other animal can.. Cycling 240 mile per day or usain bolt sprinting at 45 kph, or climbing the mount everest, high jump for 2,5 meters.. Run a marathon in about 2 hours, running ultramarathons of 100+K, Swimming as fast as we walk.. Lifting a huge amount of weights, all in the same body but so diverse..

I think the final few seconds of that video are some of the funniest I've ever seen on this channel. His face is so grey.
I must say this week's content has been great to see. Basically you guys wiping yourselves out doing cool cycling stuff (Maratona dles Dolomites, this godawful super marathon thing). This kind of stuff is great, so much more compelling than the (admittedly useful) maintenance tips and so on.

Endurance cycling is an amazing experience. The preparation is most of it. I did the Arizona Challenge 2 times after failing once. I got experience to support my friend in the RAAM. I met Jim Elliott in the Arizona Challenge when I covered 325 miles in 24 hours. Jim would do it in about 17 1/2 hours a few years later. Jim elliott was the first man to ride over 500 miles in 24 hours and did it on a fixie in the San Diego velodrome. The challenge is mental but the medical help is going to make a difference, the massage will be a great help as it was for Jim during the RAAM. At least the ride includes sleep time; the winners of RAAM often sleep less than 2 hours a day. I pray for a safe and memorable journey for Mark Beaumont.

Fun fact - just checked the route on Strava for this first day and there's a section of tarmac in Overijse South East of Brussels he passed over that then featured in Stage 1 of the 2019 Tour de France and that will also be part of the UCI elite men's road race route in 2021. Not bad for an anonomous piece of tarmac at a set of traffic lights!

I think I'm more impressed with his first round the world record when he was alone, unsupported- the episodes are available on YT- Mentally, it has to be excruciating, being alone, me I'm sure I would crumble down after a while. I watch the vids several times.
This time, the company he has makes it totally different imo. He has to be drafting a lot behind the van, seriously.

Look forward to these clips every show and seeing Mark's progress, it's a beautiful things he's doing. Any word if there's going to be a documentary type thing afterwards so we can get a more in depth look at his adventures? Fingers crossed. Also fingers crossed for Mark and his his crew.

Love the ending. Si thumbs up to you on this ride. At one point at the first break I thought it was Mat as you couldn't clip in on the first try. LOL :)

I was sick of eating and drinking at the end of my 1000 miles that i did in 10 days. I did not want to take another sip or eat anymore. Go mark. This is a big one....

This whole thing is incredible. I can't even begin to understand what commitment rounding the world(!) in 80 days on a bike must take. Best of luck to him, crossing my fingers. Is there a live ticker or anything to stay updated on his progress?
