I am still driving my 2002 Elantra and it has 700,000 k's on the clock. Original engine, original alternator. Starter motor replaced at 650,000 k's. Regular maintenance is the key. A great car.
I took delivery this morning of a new 2019 Elantra Sport... 201 hp, premium package and 7 speed DCT automatic transmission. Very impressive, a good value and very enjoyable to drive.
I dont know why reviews test a normal economic cars and they said not enjoyable to drive... These cars for average persons with average budget they don't think about entertainment and sporty ride in their cars... So my friend take a big car to enjoy cause I don't enjoy riding even with the new toyota corolla with Cvt gears.
I like elements of the new 2019 look. Although less elegant, I do like the new front end...especially the triangular headlights. Very distinctive. I like all of the interior enhancements, except for the checkered pattern in the gauge cluster. I completely dislike the rear. No redeeming qualities to my eye. I like the new alloy wheels on the SEL, though not more than the 2018 SEL wheels.
I love it. I don’t get why everyone hates the headlights. I think they look sleek, whereas the lights on the older elantras wrap around into a weird rounded shape. And the wheels on the limited are awesome.
I just bought Elantra limited after test driving first a civic 2.0 sedan sport then it. The civic had enough pep but had that weird CVT behavior of engine excessive revving and seemed a bit noisier inside. The steering in civic was better, and it came in a bright red that I loved. But what killed the civic for me mostly was the incredibly harsh ride, especially from the rear wheels. Which is strange given the independent suspension. But I am over 60, so I now like a softer ride. I didn’t want to move up to higher level, because I don’t want direct injection or turbo engine, because of potential intake valve gunk and oil dilution. After 10 minute drive in Elantra I knew I found my car. Relatively smooth ride and quiet interior for this class. Plus the engine power surprised me. Seemed stronger than Its numbers. No color choices I loved. Went with black.
I just traded a 2013 Dodge Dart to my new 2019 Hyundai Elantra less than 2 weeks ago. So far, I absolutely love the Elantra. Feels like I'm driving a luxury car compared to the Dart. Certainly glad I made the trade.
I just bought the 2019 Elantra N-Line. There's more space in the back. My back seat passengers also have their own ac/heat vents, and USB charger ports.
I drive a 2018 Elantra SEL. Recently did a 280 mile round trip and averaged 46.8mpg. On my typical around town drives, I average 37-40mpg. This car is super efficient.
@@palebeachbum I use synthetic although it doesnt require it. I drive a lot, 37 miles to work, 37 home. Anyway, I was doing 4k but realized I was throwing money away. So I change at 5k. I think the manual says 7500 for synthetic oil but I can't do that! Do you like a particular brand?
@@joeb2588 If you want to save yourself money (without doing the engine any harm), I'd check your oil quality every 1,000 miles beyond 5k up to the 7500 recommendation. You might find 7500 is perfectly fine. My 2006.5 Kia Optima would easily do the 7500 mile intervals. The oil would be warm honey color. Not like the days of old cars that had black oil by 3k miles! I'm not too particular about my oil. Scotty Kilmer on here tested out that new cheap Amazon oil and recommends it, if you do your own oil changes.
I ended up getting the 2019 Elantra SEL. Considering I'm giving up my Base Model 2017 Mitsubishi Mirage G4, this is an enormous step up in Power and Space. Silky smooth ride. I have not tested the different Modes in terms of Normal, Sport, Eco. But Normal will probably do ..unless I'm late for Work. :)
I totally agree about none of the drive modes being ideal. After nearly 2,500 miles of driving, I still haven't found a comfortable, suitable drive mode to leave the car in full-time. This is the conclusion I've come to: Sport mode = Aggressively jumpy throttle. Transmission holds revs unnecessarily high before upshifting. The drive mode defaults to Normal mode after powering down and restarting the car. I can only seeing this drive mode being ideal if you have a full load of passengers and are driving on mountainous terrain. Otherwise, it's overly aggressive and pointless. Normal mode = Initial throttle response still too jumpy off the line for smooth take off. Transmission upshift points and downshift response feel ideal, but has a hard time deciding what gear to be in driving around the city in the 5 - 40mph range. Transmission gear hunts a lot and behaves clunky as a result in this speed range. Feels perfectly behaved out on open roads, however. Eco/Smart = Throttle response dulled, resulting in smoother and more linear throttle response. Transmission upshift points are far too early and downshift response to throttle input is almost absent. After excessive throttle input, transmission finally decides to downshift, but downshifts 2 gears instead of one, making for a neck snapping experience.
What's the 2020 Hyundai Elantra having regarding features? Do you have any idea if Hyundai will by any chance bring back the power driver's seat with the lumbar support to the value edition trim level?

Almost every Aussie Elantra Sedan has for yonks, got rear a/c vents. Maybe because it's a hot continent/country. (there's a kind of an unannounced contest to find a town that's ever got snow). Wow did Hyundai ruin this once god looking car. Looks like an uglier Jetta now. Loved the pre refresh look. Shame. Was going to buy the Sport a year ago but passed due to a lack of an LSD option. Looking back I guess I should have been just thankful it had IRS and didn't completely cheapen it out which seems to be the Kia/Hyundai direction with this car
Blake Swan I was going to wait for a 2019 then I realized the front looks like a Prius and the rear looks like a Buick. I had a 2018 Elantra Sport 6m shipped across country because it was the last one and it was exactly what I wanted. I do not regret it at all.
To me, both cars look good from the side. From the back, the Forte would look good except for the ugly black around turn signals stuck in middle of bumper. So Elantra wins from back. From front, the top half of both cars look good, different from each other, but good (Elantra classy, Forte sporty. But the lower half of Forte has more cheap looking black plastic including fins that stick out, yuck. The Hyundai front lower half takes some getting used to, but it is growing on me. So for me, Elantra better looking overall. But I am old, so maybe the Forte more youthful? Then there is the 6 speed dual clutch automatic in Elantra versus the CVT in the Forte. The CVT seems to get more performance as well as gas mileage out of the same engine.
Strangely enough - the European and Asians are coming with the rear AirCon vents. Seems that Korean-Ulsan and Ukrainian factories inventories are different from Alabama factorys.
This car gives the targeted audience what they want. And that is a lot of tech and they don’t notice that the car doesn’t have independant rear suspention to keep the cost down.
@@mchlcordell I am planning to buy a car next month. I am deciding between elantra, civic, mazda 3 and corolla. Can anybody give me any tips what car will be best for me? I dont know much about cars. I am just a college student. I am not looking for crazy speed, just regular drive to college and home.
@Serge Whatever thanks a lot. what about reliability? Is Mazda reliable? I drove my friend's Mazda 6. And it was way fun than a 2017 camry. So I thought mazdas in general was more engaging than toyotas.
I sat in this car back in November and said "No Way!" I've driven a 2013 and 2016 Elantra Value Edition and hate the interior redesign? Why? the squared off center console cuts down the driver legroom (for me anyway). I felt cramped and uncomfortable. The results: I now drive a 2019 Kona Limited. Yes, the Kona is almost a foot shorter, but I used to drive Subaru Foresters and no longer need a big SUV, as the Kona's CUV layout is perfect for this aging baby boomer!
I have 2014 Elantra and I feel so bad for the new design. This design is a failure of fluidic sculpture. The new Kia Forte is on the right track. Hopefully, they will make it right when redesigns the new one.
I drove a 2020 elantra as a rental and it was great. I had a 2017 corolla for 3 years and it felt kinda rough, elantra felt like a more powerful smooth drive. I know toyota’s are more reliable and better, but just my opinion!
I wouldn't say Toyota's are better. My 2011 Elantra started in 25 below and a 2020 Corolla wouldn't start. And mine has 130k miles and averages 35+mpg still at this high of miles.
Until Hyundai/Kia step up there game in the suspension department, they can’t hold a candle against Honda or new 2019 Toyotas (older Toyotas were as bad as this to drive). I was considering a Forte until I drove one.
I'll stick with my 2016 Value Edition Elantra, thank you! Looks FAR better, is fun to drive, great interior and enough tech for my needs. Sunroof, tinted windows, mirror turn signals, fog lamps, 16" alloy wheels, and a MUCH better looking nose, to name a few features! The newer Elantras are just too flattened out, and got rid of the fluidic design that the 2011 thru 2016 models had! And again, that nose is not real good looking....not bad, but no where near as excellent as the 2011 thru 2016 models! Lets see if Hyundai can fix that, get back to the design that made the Elantra such a hot seller when the 2011 came out!
Car manufacturers do this from time to time, I agree that the new Elantra redesign with those triangle headlights is awful. Mazda also screwed up bigtime when they redesigned the Mazda3 back in 2010, that was one of the ugliest front ends of any car, looked like major trout pout catfish face.
He was harsh! I just traded in my 2016 Elantra GT Sport for the 2019 Elantra N-Line GT Sport. I. Love. It. I loved my 2016. I didn't think it could be any better. Well, my 2019 N-Line is better.
*You gave a very fair and accurate review.* I think the new front end is ugly and I would prefer the 2018 model over the 2019. The current 2019 Hyundai Sonata is my favorite vehicle, and the 2019 Hyundai Accent is my favorite compact car. The new Elantra is ruined for me because of the looks and suspension system. The inside looks very nice, however, but that is not enough. The Sonata looks great and has independent rear suspension, and you can get them at a bargain price, usually 15% below MSRP. I love Hyundai as a company. The Kia Forte has practical advantages for a economy car, but it looks too tubby and tick-like for me, and the suspension is not good. I would rather have a Civic or the upcoming Toyota Corolla, which looks at least OK and has many mechanical advantages over the competition.
I own a 2017 Elantra. They have a 2.0 Atkinson cycle variant of the Nu engine. I would stay away. Mine, and according to many reports the dealer told me they get, is they make a loud ticking/tapping noise when cold. It sounds like a diesel. Dealer reported Hyundai said it was normal because the metal shrinks in cold weather. I have never ever had a car do this in cold weather and I have had my fair share of bombs. I bought it used so am only covered up to 60000 miles. I said to Hyundai ok if this is so normal cover my car to the full 10 year 100000 mile warranty. They just keep giving me the run around. I mean if there is no issue with the car it would not cost them anything to give the full powertrain warranty. I have no confidence in the longevity of this engine and unfortunately it looks like they are putting these in more models. Also I think these engines are in the Kia Forte and other Kia models.
The 2.0. Is the best engine. The 1.8 nu engine has issues sometimes. If you get a 2011 to 2016 get INE that the vin begins with kmh. That means made in Korea.. They had way less issues with the engine. Mine has a 133k and runs great but mine was made in Korea. Even my mechanic said buy the korean ones they are the best
If it is when it is cold under 40 degrees that's normal. Your car has direct injection. It's normal for the sound. The 2017 and up ones have a better engine.
@@jasongallagher9547 Thanks for the reply, glad you are having a good experience with yours. It is possible to find a good example of any make of car , even from FCA, but it is not as easy as better brands. The 2.0 Nu engine in the Elantra I had did not have direct injection. they ran with port injection on the atkinson cycle. The dealership i took it to admitted it did not sound normal, but after they contacted Hyundai they changed their tune. I have a car with direct injection and it sounds nothing like that Elantra's internal noises. The direct injection is a ticking noise from the high pressure they run on and does not change with the temp of the motor. Hyundai has had a terrible track record with build quality of late, their recent recall history is proof of that. Wherever they build their cars or engines it has their name on them.
all cars or beginning to look the same in something some way they all have square rear ends funny looking headlights nothing exciting about these new cars
Needs an emergency remodel like the 2012 Honda Civic! Lol. The interior needs to be more plush like the Mazda 3 or Civic. The front need the most help. It’s 2019 not 2005. Make it more like a baby Sonata.

@@petergilbert144 wtf I bought one from Mississauga Hyunda Ontario Canada i the top ultimate trim(ultimate) an it didn't come with memory seats .. did I just got ripped off
@@petergilbert144 wtf so why my top trim ultimate modle does have memory seats . Bough it in Ontario Canada . Did I just got ripped off ?
MrMano54 This is the American model. Features change with most car companies across country lines.
@@petergilbert144 oo I see silly me . Thanks for the information
How tall are you?
Love my 2020 Elantra SEL.
What TF is a Destination Charge?!
It means the buyer is paying the shipping charge. ALL manufacturers do this.
Shipping and emissions testing
I have the 2020 Elantra in the same red color. I love it so much🥰❤️.
Is yours the value edition? And also is it equipped with a cvt transmission or 6 speed automatic?
@@brandoncadena3025 I have the SEL model. I wish I could’ve gotten value because of the added features. It’s a CVT but it also has an option where it can go into a manual/shift mode.
@@MzDeAndraJhene how does is handle on bumpy roads? They say it doesn't do well on highway sometimes because the suspension is stiff sometimes and also what brand of tires do you have ony yours? Have you taken any road trips in it?
@@MzDeAndraJhene I hope to
hear from you soon in regards to my question
@@brandoncadena3025 oops sorry for the late response. I will say that it’s not the best on bumpy roads but the lane assistance definitely helps with that issue. It keeps the car moving steady. Also I’m not sure about the tire thing because I’m due to replace mine. All of my current tires are not the same. I heard Goodyear tires and Cooper are good for the car. The most I’ve done road trips wise is drive from Maryland to Pennsylvania. Had no issues with that because it’s just driving on i95. I am almost at 34k with the car and still like it. I got it at 1425k
I totally agree with you on uglier Jetta. Totally.
Blake Swan I was going to wait for a 2019 then I realized the front looks like a Prius and the rear looks like a Buick. I had a 2018 Elantra Sport 6m shipped across country because it was the last one and it was exactly what I wanted. I do not regret it at all.
The new Forte is still better though
Forte has a pos CVT, you couldn't be more wrong
Forte looks hideous
Why is it better ? Because it has a cvt and made in Mexico, I think not
To me, both cars look good from the side.
Are you serious I'm looking to purchase the Elantra 2018 or 2019
Thank you
Strangely enough - the European and Asians are coming with the rear AirCon vents. Seems that Korean-Ulsan and Ukrainian factories inventories are different from Alabama factorys.
I have the Elantra N-Line GT Sport. I love it!!!!! It does have the rear ac/heat vents, and USB charger ports.
This car gives the targeted audience what they want. And that is a lot of tech and they don’t notice that the car doesn’t have independant rear suspention to keep the cost down.
Neither does the Mazda anymore...
This compared to Honda Civic with Civics better rear seat leg room and independent rear suspension and Civic fun to drive. Why buy?
kn7gez because Civic is more expensive and doesn’t have long warranty
Here we go with Civic again don't even get me started.
Serge Whatever no one stops you man..good luck. Go praise for Civic...why bother to be here...tell people how good your future civic...who care.
5:16 nice.
MPG?
miles per gallon
I sat in this car back in November and said "No Way!" I've driven a 2013 and 2016 Elantra Value Edition and hate the interior redesign? Why? the squared off center console cuts down the driver legroom (for me anyway). I felt cramped and uncomfortable. The results: I now drive a 2019 Kona Limited. Yes, the Kona is almost a foot shorter, but I used to drive Subaru Foresters and no longer need a big SUV, as the Kona's CUV layout is perfect for this aging baby boomer!
Having said that I like the soft window sill resting area on my Fusion, hard plastic would be a comedown.
The 2017/2018 es are way better.
Until Hyundai/Kia step up there game in the suspension department, they can’t hold a candle against Honda or new 2019 Toyotas (older Toyotas were as bad as this to drive). I was considering a Forte until I drove one.
Sad to say but the front of fhe car is horrible and instead of making it better they went backwards with it
Ionizer for the AC? I hear it’s bad for your lungs.
No it is capable of removing covid viruses and bad smells
I would rather buy a 2016 with very low Mileage than the new one, the 2012-2016 was the most beautiful design, Still head turning when you see one
sharper new image? They ruined one of the best designs they had. Why did they totally redesign it?????
Car manufacturers do this from time to time, I agree that the new Elantra redesign with those triangle headlights is awful. Mazda also screwed up bigtime when they redesigned the Mazda3 back in 2010, that was one of the ugliest front ends of any car, looked like major trout pout catfish face.
This guy needs to take his meds or something.
Now with CVT not good. Previous model was better.
The new one still has a traditional 6 speed auto.
CVT comes out with new 2020 Elantra.
$26,000 😱
Hey look at the civic costs just as much. If this is to much the 2021 accent can be had for 17k
all cars or beginning to look the same in something some way they all have square rear ends funny looking headlights nothing exciting about these new cars
THEM JUST FUCK UP THE CAR! OLDER WAS WAY LOOKING GOOD THAN NEW ONE.
Needs an emergency remodel like the 2012 Honda Civic! Lol. The interior needs to be more plush like the Mazda 3 or Civic. The front need the most help. It’s 2019 not 2005. Make it more like a baby Sonata.
Hmm.... I have the 2019 Elantra N-Line GT Sport. I just traded in from the 2016 Elantra GT. My 19 is pretty boujie. Black carbon fiber interior work red trim. It's nice.
The civic is garbage. I have a 2011 Elantra my car out performs civic has more standard features and has a better sound system and dives better then the 2020 civic. My friend has one and said so.
2019 Kia Forte EX is better
The refresh is ugly. Korean toy. I had the 2017 and it was a great looking car but this is just terrible.
This new one should have been the 2017 model and the 2017 model should have been the 2019. Wow Hyundai, you stepping backwards into ugly. Perfect pizza delivery car w those pizza slice headlights
The rear end is horrible. The front is okay. Funny how VW and even Kia can better tune a torsion beam rear suspension but Hyundai cannot. Hmmmm.
What have you done Hyundai! The front and back of this car is ugly! I can’t stand the triangular fog lights, never seen uglier fog lights than these!!
Have you seen swamp thing aka the new Corolla. Hold on I almost threw up
@@jasongallagher9547 I’ve seen it, ugly! The new Nissan Sentra however, they did a good job! I liked that car!! The thing I don’t like about those Nissan is their CVT and not dual transmission. Mazda 3 is probably the winner of the segment.
The new sentra is crap. My friend is in the service department. He said he would rather walk then drive a Nissan. He said the Sandra and versa are the worst. I had a sentra myself it sucked. I'll take a hyundai any old day. But what's wrong with the elantra front end the 2019 and 2020 isn't bad l. My wife has one. It's fast 201 hp all options. I want the 2021 elantra. I love it. I'll still keep my 2011 too. My step son has a 2017 Elantra. I like the front of his too. Looks like a Audi
It is just plain ugly to me. And the interior is worse. It looks like it was designed by a fourth-grader in detention hall.
I can’t stand the checkerboard gauges and the vents don’t look that good, either. Add in the cheapened rear seats and it’s a loser for me.
Hyundai always using cheap materials and you think after all these years they came together on building good cars I guess not hyundai and kia are garbage 😂😂😂😂 nothing like Toyota and Honda now you talking good quality cars 👍👍👍👍
Boricua Guerrero better off living with your overprice purchase. Stop whining baby.
I least I know what I got under the hood not something that is gonna die after 100k like hyundai the motor will die after reaching 100k 😂😂😂
Boricua Guerrero google one million miles elantra baby. Help yourself. Don’t show stupid by your ego.
Boricua Guerrero btw, ask if Honda or Toyota give you free car if you reach 1 millions miles baby. Lol. Good luck
1million miles elantra 😂😂😂 keep dreaming hyundai will never reach that not in you dreams get lost 😂😂😂 ask if hyundai or kia will give you a brand new car after the motor dies after reaching 100k 🤔🤔
Just get an Accord or a Forte. This car screams cheap. The older Elantras looked soooooooo much better.
Who buys this garbage.
Fadic4 they sell tons tbh.
Joshua Rutter they have heavy incentives and they she'll a shit load to fleets
Fadic4 people who are not stupid like you
GPeter8819 G so fleet companies?
People who don't own Civics. 🤣 🤷♂
You get what you pay for. Rough ride and weak engine. Get a new Corolla or Civic any day over Koreans
And Corolla has less hp
Paul M so you like CVT transmission. Good luck with your superior engine with these two. Lol
Honda ain’t what it use to be and Toyota cheapskate out on everything other than maybe the engine.
Do your research sir before you say things. Google shall help you let me know.
