  • Today, I unbox, fish and give my first impressions on two JDM super ultralight rods:
Daiwa Presso Air AGS 5’10 XUL
    Daiwa Iprimi 5’6 XXUL
I got these rods from JDM Tackle Heaven.
I recommend both this retailer and Asian Portal Fishing for JDM fishing gear shipped to the US.

Hey brother always great to see others that enjoy it. It’s my favorite. From about 2000-2012 I was ultralight only! I got into saltwater and bass fishing, but still would go finesse. Getting into jdm bass gear, i discovered the AMAZING market of jdm ultralight stuff, and now I’m back to stay 😎. Even the simple stuff like a 19.99 Walmart Shakespeare rod, I love it!

Rod/reel combo with fishing kit as an emergency setup ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxntWMOZsO1Zfv-pdn_XuffEtNkTYAYu4Z recommend but started to use this every day. The rod is thick and seems durable. I keep it neatly tucked into a regular backpack all the time with my fishing gear, and can grab it anytime, put it on my back and go anywhere. I just read in another review that the rod length below the reel is adjustable as well, so I will try that too for even more portability. Probably the best setup I've ever owned. I lost the cap for the eyelets, but no big deal since I still have the black cloth sheath that came for the pole and I use that. Very portable and high quality.

Something like this are usually use for giant freshwater prawn here in south east asia, need the rod to be super sensitive because you need to feel the prawn using its pincer when they put the bait in their mouth, its actually quite challenging you can't be aggressive or too slow when trying to catch one.

    • @TheUltralightLife
      @TheUltralightLife  Рік тому +2

That’s so cool to hear, I can definitely see that! Reminds me of crabbing at the coast. But the prawns are probably much more sensitive so you have to have the perfect balance as you mentioned

I've heard that part of the rod (the gap) referred to as a "spigot", the raw carbon section. It supposed to be that way. As the graphite slowly wears away from repeatedly taking it down and putting it together (thousands of times), it can shorten to the point that the two rod ends will not fully seat. It prolongs the life of the rod. I tend to keep my rods together, so its not an issue. I've heard you can bring it back with dry graphite spray if it gets to bad.

With the JDM rods you cannot follow the same criteria as to how a certain action may act just by its rating or its length.
The Japanese are so far advanced with their ultralights as compared to the U.S. market and really specialize their offerings and offer different actions and characteristics for the individual rods designed for differing species and uses.
An Ajing rod for instance is a stiffer blank in general when compared to a mebaru species rod and an Area Trout rod even is different action wise as compared to the other two.
The U.S. market rods pretty much are just a jumbled mess depending on the manufacturer.
Same goes with the JDM reels as many are offered with a shallow, wider spool which cast light line better and waste less line, who needs 250 ft of 2lb test line on a 1000 size reel to fill the spool?
Like anything the budget is the only limit but if you ever get into JDM dishing gear you will not even look at most anything made for the American market.
And if you value your budget never try tackle like the JDM Diawa gekka bijin/ ajin light wire 1.0-1.5 gram jigs!

Ive been looking at the ags rod. Can i use 6lb mono on the 5'10 or do i need the 6 foot model ags xul?..

Hey buddy that rod is more suited for 2- 4lb, the ML rod in that line would be best if strictly 6lb mono. That ML rod still bends like crazy too on light line

How would you compare the 510XUL to 61ML, the same but 6.1ML more stronger? Is the 6.1ML version able to jig with 2-3g jigheads witout not overloading the tip? @@TheUltralightLife
