A SEX addict whose compulsive pursuit of anonymous hook-ups drove her to nearly take her own life has spoken out about her ordeal. Jace Downey, from Austin, Texas, said her addiction began with sexual fantasies when she was aged just five, eventually escalating to frequent encounters with strangers. Realizing later that she has been abused as a child, Jace attended a recovery group before embarking on a two year Suddenly Celibate project where she met experts in addiction, relationships and sexuality. Jace now has a boyfriend and works as a self-development coach, helping people looking for assistance with addiction and other personal struggles.

People who are molested will either become secluded and not have any sexual relations untill older age and not often(like my sister) then there is me... i have an addiction to sex. I can't go 1 week without sex. If I dont have sex I feel like im not real. its so crazy. I hate having sex. i just can't stop..
Kayla Lopez I know from experience too because I’m disabled and I’ve been sexual abused and abused by my birth father but all of that stopped ever since I opened up to my mom and my stepfather about the sexual abuse whenever I was 19 and now I’m 21 and my birth father hasn’t gotten locked up yet.

Sadly I can relate to this statement bcuz I too was raped for 12yrs but by my stepfather, he was also a police officer and his stepfather was captain of the sheriffs Dept.

To extend this logic beyond, I don't think her dad was at fault, he might have been abused in his childhood as well, who knows by who, his relatives, his mom etc. But he has a penis so it must be his fault! Based on a compilation of numerous studies posted in an archive I found on 'TumbIrinaction denying that women r ape men', it was found that "If 99% of r apists are men and 83% of 'made to penetrators' are women ... then an estimated 42% of the perpetrators of nonconsensual seks in 2011 were women."

As a father this hits so hard, and as someone with a VERY addictive personality this also hits hard on a different level. The fact that there are people out there like this who abuse their children in such a way shows the utter failure of our justice system to deal with this
The problem is children don't tell most of the time. They feel shame. They feel nobody will believe them. They feel to reveal the secret will damage or break up their family. In short, they feel responsible even though they are not. And as she said, she still loved her father. In my case, my mother knew I'd been molested by the relative of my brother in law, but told me to keep quiet or I'd make trouble between the families. I had to carry that burden at 11 years old.
FAilure also of our cultural-religious lacking system, when humans are so wounded, empty, stressed and disturbed that they can't go for adults but can only relate somewhat to children..Amazing that she healed and had a good relationship! Wonder how she she did that?
Failure of the justice system is only the last slap in the face.
First comes the other parent/siblings denial of the situation, going as far as saying that the victim is lying or seeking attention by making stuff up.
Then comes the attitude of *some* front line care providers or police officers. It may be due to old mentality or lack of suitable training.
When finally the last few cases that made it to the justice system are brought before a judge, victims are still not believed or the system does not want to break up the family by sentencing the culprit too harshly, if at all.
It makes me sick.
A better assessment service is desperately needed and the initial attitude should be to believe the victim.

Her boyfriend is a sweetheart, I can't even imagine how much patience it took him and how much strength it took her to even trust a man again when the man who was supposed to protect her ended up abusing her.

This is why stopping addiction (to drugs, sex, alcohol, etc) isn't just a matter of "saying no". The majority of addictions can be traced back to unresolved childhood trauma - like sexual abuse. The brain doesn't draw any distinctions between physical pain and emotional pain. Pain is pain, and we should have compassion for people who spend a lifetime trying desperately to escape that pain.
Childhood sexual abuse is the elephant in the room. So many are affected by it and a good number of people afflicted by it end up escaping their pain permanently by suicide. This is a fact.
When she cried, I could see the eyes of the innocent little girl she once was. She's still in there.

Raising children with understanding and compassion will reduce the problem. It's particularly important prior to their ability to access objectifying pron. Although psychopaths and sociopaths who are paedophiles will always exist. Less objectifying, and more compassion can make a huge difference. Adults have responsibility for their own actions, as well as how they raise their children to treat others.

I’m so happy that she opened up about her story. I’ve dealt with childhood exposure and assaults as a child and still deal with it (I’m 15) and this really helped me understand my patterns of unhealthy relationships and going between hypersexual and sex repulsed. I hope one day I will have the strength and be out of some of my abusers grasp to be as strong and brave as she is to get her story out there and help other kids like me who are confused and scared and feel gross and unworthy. And if you are someone who went or is going through this, I love you and you are worthy and you deserve better and I’m here if you need to talk
Baby girl pleeeeeeeease tell someone. You CAN get out of the grasp of your abuser, and you MUST. I was abused as a small child and I understand being scared to speak up. I didn’t say anything until I was an adult, and the support I got from my family was overwhelming. Please say something before your abuser does this to someone else!
@@cheftornado1114 I actually have told my parents about one of my abusers and they didn’t really do much or believe me until another person was assulted. Sadly in my case I’m not going to be able to get these people fully out of my life until I am 18, I avoid them to the best I can though.

"You're not an addict, you're traumatized". A lot of people here seem to think that trauma can't cause addiction. Trauma often leads to unhealthy coping mechanisms like addictions! You guys deny her the word addict bc in your mind you still have the prejudice that only bad people are addicts and strong or good people can't be that. It does, doesn't it? I have a young son still in nappies. It makes me want to barf knowing some people touch their babies inappropriately/sexually. They're innocent little things, abusing that power is horrible.
That boyfriend is praiseworthy. He is able to do something which I myself cannot do and many of us can't either. The amount of love he has for that woman is so... much so pure that I can't even put it into words.

Sexual trauma is the leading cause of every mental health disorder including addiction. I am a therapist and most of my clients have been abused as a child.

@@vianelle3821 There is always hope. Think positive. Love yourself. Focus on your self betterment. Do not destroy yourself by taking drugs or anything that could harm you. Take your time. You will be healed. Trust me. Its hard to do it at first but its worth it. I am a survivor as well.
@@vianelle3821 sorry to hear that, it's best to try to get help as soon as you can, if one therapist doesn't work then you try again and try your best to heal. Maybe you "want" to see your family do that to each other as a coping mechanism so you feel pleasure instead of more pain to protect yourself. Those feelings may never change but there are other ways to cope and to improve your life, it will be ok just keep getting help and believe in yourself bc there is always a way things can get better, and you don't need to be ashamed if you are, it's not your fault and wish you the best

She keeps calling it an addiction, but she is actually a survivor of sexual abuse who went through some of the effects of that abuse. I'm glad she is able to live a happy life, especially with someone who truly loves her and is deserving of her.
She's also able to live that life because she identified with and sought treatment for her addiction. You can't dictate what she calls it.

Hearing her talk about her abuse breaks my heart. Nowadays with pornography and pop culture showing sex as nothing but a physical thing a lot more people have this addiction. I don't want to imagine the way little children with access to the Internet are growing up, with all of that a click away. God help us
That's why all the electronics in our household purchased for the kids are Apple devices. Got iPads and iPhones for them purely because parental controls are easier on Apple devices than android. Just swipe a button and create a code and they can't access any adult content. Also put a passcode on the App Store for the older kids in case they get the bright idea to get an app to bypass the controls. That and also don't let kids use computers without supervision period. That's the main problem I think parents are putting personal computers, desktops, tablets phones etc. into the hands of kids and young teens and even in their rooms and just trusting them with that. They're curious and going through hormonal changes.....of course you can't trust them.

Addiction is a disease (over the past few years addiction and eating disorders are finally diagnosed as diastase and mental disorders) and can be passed down in genes. Some people won't end up being an addict if their father is and some will. Also some people just have a addictive personality. This is really common but unfortunately addicts and their struggles are swept under the rug and most people just hope they die living on the streets :-

Hearing her story just absolutely breaks my heart, no one should have to endure what she has, especially not as such a young age. My heart goes out to her and I'm so very proud of how far she's come!
5-year-olds do not come up with these ideas on their own. As she was describing her thoughts about her Disney characters, I was wondering who she was going to explain had molested her. For it to be anybody in the family, which it usually is, is horrible and devastating. For it to have been her father, even more so. So impressed with her resilience and the work she's doing.

I can't believe how identified I felt watching this video, from masturbation at an early age, sexual abuse by your parents, the topic of infidelity and dangerous sex. I didn't even realize how horrible what happened to me was until I heard this person say that basically the same thing happened to them, heartbreaking. "Sex almost never felt good" was something I identified with a lot.
She wasn’t born an addict. She was made. God bless her on her continued road to recovery. What an awful trauma to experience at any age but particularly such a young, vulnerable and impressionable age. I appreciate her sharing her story with us.
Coming from someone who was physically, sexually, and emotionally abused by many people, including her parents, this story is inspiring. I am now 20 and learning to cope with lots of the same issues Jace had to overcome, but it seems like a never-ending struggle. Thank you for this video

She has C-PTSD and is a survivor of sexual abuse by a paedophile in her direct family. This isn't about sex addiction, it's a trauma response, a tool she has used to numb her emotional trauma. She is a survivor of a monstrous betrayal and sexual abuse in her childhood. By identifying as an 'addict', she takes blame over her coping mechanism that she has used to have sense of control. But it was never her fault, it was this sc**'s fault that should be in jail for his criminal behaviour, if he is still alive. She relived her trauma in order to feel some self-worth, since she had none. It's odd to introduce oneself as 'I'm an addict, I'm imperfect'. She is a survivor and nothing about humanity is perfect and it never should be.
As a father to two daughters, and husband to a wife who was sexually abused by a parent, my heart breaks for this woman. I've seen the damage it causes first hand, and while it may not always manifest in the ways she experienced, it always takes its toll.

@@jamisona.5639 Quite the opposite, actually. She struggled with accepting any sort of physical touch, and even struggled to be physically affectionate toward our kids. Even though she wanted to hug and kiss our girls, it was very hard for her to push through and do so. Even though she knew it wasn't true, she had been programmed, through her childhood experiences, to view physical affection as something negative. It took many years of therapy to overcome just a portion of what she experienced at the hands of her own mother.

I just want to thank you for sharing. I have struggled most my life with addictions. Seven years sober now. It started with trauma from childhood. It was a lonely place. And still to this day Im called a liar by family. I struggled so much with anger until now. Your story has inspired me to forgive and let go of the shame. Thank you!
