The last pearl I collected was the one in the bar locker with the password, I looked it up on xbox forums and found a user by the name of SexyJade who already ask my question. As it turns out the password was written down in the bar obscurely near that shark guy.
"with the long-awaited sequel finally looking like it might actually be released in the near future..." Over 4 years later and still nothing, this game is never coming out I swear.
I know I'm 5 years too late, but I started playing Beyond Good and Evil a short while ago, and I gotta say, in a number of ways, it was not only *leagues* ahead of its own time, but still a good ways ahead of even *ours* ; seriously, it could teach *modern* games a thing or two! I just couldn't stop *gushing* over it, and I can't remember the last time I gushed over a game as much as I gushed over Beyond Good and Evil; it's *clearly* a product of ambition and passion, and we need far *more* games like that in the modern day!
One small thing. So thing about that final code is that you can actually complete the game cuz there are fan sites up that will take the "Darkroom" code and let you complete the game as it should be
The “chosen one” trope works here cuz they foreshadow it from the beginning jade is the only character that whose color scheme is mostly green, indicating she is connected to the only other green in the game the doms and alpha sections.
The steam version (not HD rerelease) looks pretty similar. I think they probably added higher resolution textures but the original looks great as well IMO.
Same, I got this game on my PS2 and I didn't have a memory card, so everytime I wanted to play I had to start from the beginning, so everytime I played, I have to beat it completely in one sitting. I memorized almost every dialogue haha, fun times, I'm still waiting for more news on the new one.
I first played this game on the Xbox HD release in like 2011-12 when I saw it on sale for two fucking dollars! I remember seeing the game in a Top 100 games of all time list in some Gamestop mag I got a free subscription to, so I thought "why not" because it was basically free. Man did I luck out. This was probably the first game of the story heavy, stealth genre I ever played (never played any MGS for instance), and I LOVED IT! I loved the world of Hillys, although it did annoy me how relatively small it is and always beckoned me to the borders of the world to see more. The story was deep for me at the time and I had a great time with it, and almost made me cry at one particular point (pretty sure everyone knows). Overall it was a fantastic experience I recommend to anyone today, and I remember being really sad when after I played through it I came across the BG&E 2 trailer... from 2008, and realizing the game was cancelled. I hope if it ever does come out it can come close to the original, even if the new trailer looked pretty bizarre.
I thought that that was the whole point of a second game. I mean I don't really care what happened to Jade's parents or whatever the game is about, it gives some mystery and that's cool.
So happy that you covered one of my favourite games of all time, played this when I was like 11 and just loved the world and story. Been waiting for a sequel for years.
im hoping the game Dust: An Elysian Tail will be completed by Jirard soon. i fell in love with that game back in 2013. idk why, but it was probably due to the fact that one person did all of the work on it, which blew my mind personally.
I'm really happy to hear this game still holds. I remember this game blowing my mind in middle school. I've had an urge to go back to it lately, but was afraid of disappointment.
I never saw your face before, only heard your voice. I must say you look so friendly and Happy (which is a good thing to me) i instantly want to give you a hug and talk about Videogames for Hours. Hope you do well! Thanks for Covering one of my Childhood Favorites.
I know this is a 2 year old comment but me too, man. So far it feels less like they're expanding on what the original was trying to achieve and more like they're making their own thing and putting the Beyond Good and Evil 2 name on it and putting a few easter eggs here and there. What probably has me the most worried is that the player character will be a self-insert clone and the game will be online only, the latter of which just feels so out of place in a sequel for a stealth-action game. It was so disappointing to hear, so much that I can't really say I'm even excited for the game to come out anymore.
I feel like Ubisoft games sometimes get unfairly criticized simply because "Its cool to hate Ubisoft" But honestly, they're one of the few major publishers out there willing to take risks. I mean we've got this game, it's getting a sequel despite the original's poor sales, Last year we got Mario + Rabbid in Xcom world, The gave us Rayman Origins and Legends Grow Home, On the horizon we got Starlink Battle For Atlas which looks like the most innovative use of Toys to life ever. And they're willing to listen to fan feedback and adjust their games accordingly. Yes they're mostly known for making Open World titles, which can be a mixed bag but that shouldn't overshadow their creativity.
I think Ubisoft have some of the most talented developers in the industry but I don't agree most of the time they don't take risk. All of their open world games post assasins creed 1 have the same type of missions and any innovations that are successful are added to this open world formula. I mean there are exceptions like Rayman Legends but now that's a rarity. I still like them though, particularly Watch dogs.
I agree that Ubi has some great titles that are far from open-world, but even BG&E2 is going to be open-world. I really hope that they don't lose sight of what made this game so great in favor of "muh open world".
Personally I think Michele Ancel (creator and artist behind BG&E and Rayman) ’s branch in france is where they really shine. Allot of creativity and fun gameplay ideas emerge from their games.
They gave a booklet which had a list of all items and I remember memorising all of it. Good memories man. My heart broke apart when the disc for ps2 stopped working. I'd love to play it again.
SQUEALS LOUDLY AND PASSES OUT Your my hero for making this i been hoping for someone to give this game some love I dont really like the new 2nd game it looks too much too me
My brother and I stayed up many nights trying to 100% Beyond Good and Evil. We never did. He died some years ago. It popped in my hea randomly and went for it by myself in his memory. A bittersweet achievement.
I will suggest you to complete "Skies of arcadia, legends" in the gamecube. It is a fun underrated game that I wasn't able to complete it in my teen years and I wish to see it again. Anyway beyond good and evil is lots of fun. What's up with that open ending thou?
I miss the old Ubisoft.. they used to be my most favorite game studio. And I've been trying to put up with their mistakes and business practices for years, but I can't anymore. I've put up enough with them since 2018. Plus, all of their games feel the same, which I just can't put up with anymore either. Far Cry, Assassin's Creed, Tom Clancy, etc. they all suffer the Ubisoft formula.
Played a demo of this back when you still got them with magazines but never got to play the full game, just the demo was amazing so I still want to play this for sure
Something to note is how the game can definitely make you feel its mood depending on the coloring, which is something that's well used. The domz and most aliens have sickly green colors used when their presence is around. When you're in an invasion, the sky turns green, and some domz will emit green lights. The alpha section has more industrial themes, where grays and reds are more apparent. And lastly our hero, who sports softer shades of green and blue.
Duuude...i had too look at the DVD-cover for 2 years because my parents had a slow PC...when i finally played it i couldn't believe how big and awesome this game was.100 % worth it
I actually only heard about this game a few years ago because of a WatchMojo Top 10 List, of all things. I was intrigued, so I took the time to find the game and play it, and I LOVED it. I really need to play it again. I never did manage to take pictures of ALL the animals.
The locker at the bar can be unlocked now since Francis gives you the code to open the locker after you beat him for the pearls 2 times. This is only in the 20th Anniversary edition from what I know
Jirard, you can still get that one disk. There's an unofficial web site that can give you the code you need. It's called "darkroom" or something like that. Google is your friend!
Great game with arguably the most likeable bunch of characters... you gotta love Jade, Pey'j, Secundo and Double H. The one game your friend recommends to you, you won't believe him but really is a superb gem!
Ok, gime 2 hours to chill. Please, YES!!! (Btw, can we please take a moment to apreciate how amazing Jade-rard looks on the intro screen in 2:30? I want that drawing.)
I realize after watching this vid that Beyond Good and Evil is still my favorite game of all time. It's the best game that plays like Zelda without being Zelda- and Zelda gameplay is awesome.
I've been meaning to buy this for years, you can get it as part of a triple pack that is going up and up in price since ymyoutube creators decided to pimp the 360.
I love this game. I had it for PS2 originally, then bought the HD remake when that came out. Combat alternated between easy and frustratingly hard. Stealth sections could be hilarious at times due to poor AI. But overall it's a great game. Glad to see you enjoyed it too.
I remember getting the game when I got a gift card for Toy R Us for my birthday and wanted a video game. As a little 11-12 year old who only had a GameCube, those were the days.
Well Jirard, now I must go re-download my sole surviving pc copy and give this game a good few runs. XD Thanks so much for covering this game that likely slipped by some of us. =^.^=

This video really makes me hope a Beyond Good and Evil port comes to the Switch some day... one can dream.
Hell yeah, this looks like a game I would've loved as a kid
How about a sequel
@@infamous8131 even watching videos about that sequel on my phone makes my computer crash. Switch is cool, but isn't that powerful.
There's a 20th anniversary version rumored now, 5 years later
Guess what!!
In my personal opinion, I think this game is so underrated. I loved it so much and it is one of my favorites.
This game is a masterpiece, and one of my all time favourites.
The “chosen one” trope works here cuz they foreshadow it from the beginning jade is the only character that whose color scheme is mostly green, indicating she is connected to the only other green in the game the doms and alpha sections.
This soundtrack is so unique. It combines the languages and instruments of many cultures. And also the racing song sang in spanish is the bomb
Man I love Beyond Good and Evil, happy to see it get some love.
For 2003, this game looks pretty great
Beer By The Numbers pretty sure its a hd rerelease
it is but it's also a great looking game
eh
The steam version (not HD rerelease) looks pretty similar. I think they probably added higher resolution textures but the original looks great as well IMO.
it looked pretty average even for the time, the ps2 could do much better
You're our hero, Jirard. But only if you wear the Tingle costume again.
Go back to monster hunter! just kidding it's super cool you're here
Thanks for giving more attention to Beyond Good and Evil! This game diserves more love.
Imo, Beyond Good & Evil is my favourite game of all time, and it is the best looking game on the PS2.
Same, I got this game on my PS2 and I didn't have a memory card, so everytime I wanted to play I had to start from the beginning, so everytime I played, I have to beat it completely in one sitting. I memorized almost every dialogue haha, fun times, I'm still waiting for more news on the new one.
This was the first game I completed 100%. I didn't know there wasn't a Platinum trophy, but this still was a cool fun game to complete
I completed the game today, had a burst of nostalgia so bought the HD version on my xbox. You can still get every MDisk even today!!!
I'm still a bit sad that the "sequel" is actually a prequel :| I still wanna know what happened to Pay'j after the end-credit scene.
DarkJSN oh same that made me mad.
you don't wanna know jade's origins, what happened to her parents, how they met pey'j and why jade has all of her powers instead?
2 out of 4 characters isn't "everyone".
I thought that that was the whole point of a second game. I mean I don't really care what happened to Jade's parents or whatever the game is about, it gives some mystery and that's cool.
"SOME mystery"
wat
Beyond Good & Evil is my favourite game of all time. Thank you for shedding light on this masterpiece.
It's crazy that the sequel is still in EARLY DEVELOPMENT after like 10 years of working on it
So happy that you covered one of my favourite games of all time, played this when I was like 11 and just loved the world and story. Been waiting for a sequel for years.
My god. I LOVE YOU MAN. THIS IS THE FIRST GAME THAT I HAVE EVER PLAYED. My favorite game of all time.
Umm... would you like to watch my vid on BGE2 I uploaded yesterday?
im hoping the game Dust: An Elysian Tail will be completed by Jirard soon. i fell in love with that game back in 2013. idk why, but it was probably due to the fact that one person did all of the work on it, which blew my mind personally.
Playing through this on the GCN currently. The game has a mature, wholesome soul that will give you the feels and suspense to make your heart pump.
I'm really happy to hear this game still holds. I remember this game blowing my mind in middle school. I've had an urge to go back to it lately, but was afraid of disappointment.

I'm glad this game is getting some love and finally got a sequel still remember when I first heard the news I was so stoked great episode my dude
TheCreepypro sorry but prequel not sequel
I'm so worried about the Beyond good and evil sequel. Looks like they're going in a completely different direction.
If you're worried about the game, but you're also open to discussion I encourage you to watch my video on BGE2 I uploaded yesterday.

True, it’s going to keep getting delayed
@@valeriansolace Don´t worry Marcel Ancel knows what he is doing. But i´m really hyped for the Netflix adaptation of BG&E
Be weary travellers... for this is Ubisoft
I love the Brett interruptions. Those bits are always funny to me.
20 minutes about BG&E without mentioning Michel Ancel. Brilliant...
I feel like Ubisoft games sometimes get unfairly criticized simply because "Its cool to hate Ubisoft"

yeah, copy and pasting a map and calling it a new far cry game is proof that ubisoft is willing to take risks.
Willing to risk pissing people off.
Man, I love this game. This is one of the hand full of games I've actually 100% completed.
Do you guys remember how Jade the mid-2000s were? Jade Empire, Jade Raymond, and Jade from this game
They gave a booklet which had a list of all items and I remember memorising all of it.
Good memories man. My heart broke apart when the disc for ps2 stopped working.
I'd love to play it again.
Just came from FB streaming!
Good luck Beardman.

hope you loved the game and your memories with him.
Yes! My favorite game of all time!
I’ve heard so much about this game but I’ve never played it myself. It’s interesting to see how it holds up.
I'm about half way through it. Such an immersive world. Sound and level design are terrific so far. Just wish it was longer.
This was one of the first games that I actually did 100% of everything!
I will suggest you to complete "Skies of arcadia, legends" in the gamecube. It is a fun underrated game that I wasn't able to complete it in my teen years and I wish to see it again.
Anyway beyond good and evil is lots of fun. What's up with that open ending thou?
Skies of Arcadia is definitely another fun "old" game that didn't get much attention for some reason. It's quite charismatic and likeable.
I miss the old Ubisoft.. they used to be my most favorite game studio. And I've been trying to put up with their mistakes and business practices for years, but I can't anymore. That intro music was FIRE!!! I wasn't listening to Jardard I was just listenin to that hot beat
Classic game and it's so nice to see you review this :)
One of my favorite gamecube games back in the day. It is one of the few games that made me cry because the story got so dark.
I still listen to the soundtrack today, loved this game and it greatly effected me growing up.
Great Video Jirard, that cut away with the Carlton is going to give me nightmares though 😓
I actually only heard about this game a few years ago because of a WatchMojo Top 10 List, of all things. I was intrigued, so I took the time to find the game and play it, and I LOVED it. I really need to play it again. I never did manage to take pictures of ALL the animals.
Need more Resident Evil. ALL OF IT! Even Survivor! Even Gaiden on the GBC.
One of my favourite games in all time favourites
And also thank you for making this video 👌
My pleasure!

The MUSIC !!! IS SOOOO GOOOOOOOD !!! Love this game so badly ^^
Pretty neat to see differences visually between the first game and the sequel. The devs finally have the tools to make their vision a reality
Oh man, but that point in the game when the Domz attack your lighthouse when you're gone...
...damn, that still gets to me.
Awesome review Jirard! Never even heard of this game before.
This game was so fucking good. Got stuck on it as a kid but recently went back and 100% it. Man it felt good.

Brett's line was perfect.
I realize after watching this vid that Beyond Good and Evil is still my favorite game of all time. It's the best game that plays like Zelda without being Zelda- and Zelda gameplay is awesome.
This is the first time I’ve ever heard of this game.
I guess it just snuck its way past me until now.
I love this game. I feel so guilty and stupid for not playing it in 2003.
I have such good memories of this game. I remember when I used to dress up in my donkey costume, eat grass, and then fire this up with my nar nar.
I've been meaning to buy this for years, you can get it as part of a triple pack that is going up and up in price since ymyoutube creators decided to pimp the 360.

Loved this game and played it to death on my PS2 and it was so awesome
These episode just get better and better!
So many amazing memories from this game, deff one of the best!
I love this game. I had it for PS2 originally, then bought the HD remake when that came out. Combat alternated between easy and frustratingly hard. Stealth sections could be hilarious at times due to poor AI. But overall it's a great game. Glad to see you enjoyed it too.

Beyond Good and Evil HD was also released on PS3
I really want to play this game now!! It sounds and looks great!
Played this game when it came out and adored it. I’m excited for a sequel, I just hope the hype cycle doesn’t get the best of it.
This game is so realistic that it's hard to tell it's a video game
I remember getting the game when I got a gift card for Toy R Us for my birthday and wanted a video game. As a little 11-12 year old who only had a GameCube, those were the days.
Well Jirard, now I must go re-download my sole surviving pc copy and give this game a good few runs. XD Thanks so much for covering this game that likely slipped by some of us. =^.^=
Words can not describe my love for beyond good and evil on the ps2 xbox360 xbox one and game cube i love the soundtrack more than my mother
Complete it!! Any version it doesn't matter just flippin' complete it!!!
I love your products... But the hats are the best thing ever. I've been watching from the beginning.
Killer 7 is getting a PC re-release. Hoping Jirard completes it when it happens. May the lord smile, and the devil have mercy.
In the name of Harman
I just played Beyond Good & Evil HD for the first time last year. Game is tight tight tight.
Completed it myself a year ago. Very fun game and nice and easy to complete without being a cakewalk. Definitely recommend it :)
Another fantastic episode, Jirard
