0:12 About the picturesque villages: You know what they say: In America 100 miles is nothing, and 100 years is a lot; in Europe, 100 years is nothing, and 100 miles is a lot. The feeling I get in the US is that the old historic centers are just not valued. You have some historic architecture as well. Different style of course, but historic by your standards all the same. But you tend to not do business there anymore, so things get shabby. 5:27 The green little guy: Probably an emerald lizard. They get about a foot long, and are common in southern Europe. 7:30 Re stop sign: They are standardized worldwide, I think. "stop" is understood in most any European language; even before we adopted the octagonal stop sign the equivalent in my home country Switzerland had the word "Stop" in it. 10:09 Camels walking: No it is not acceptable in any current European culture. But even more than different cultures, there are different turn-ons. They probably got a kick out of doing it in semi-public. It must have been pretty common in earlier times. Remember: individual rooms for sleeping are a pretty recent development. And I must compliment you on your photography of the small critters. You do a really good job of that.
I know you did the Camino 3 years ago but I'm really loving your videos. I've been watching a lot of Camino vlogs as I'm planning on doing it in the Spring of next year and I'm really enjoying your videos. They have so much heart and you're so personable. It's so sweet that you did it with your sister.
For some reason as a european I want you to like this so bad like Im responsible or something. Doesnt make sense I know, Im not even spanish. Maybe because I know the camino is very different from what ive seen in your videos in the us. Its similar to the way I feel when I have international friends stay with me here in amsterdam i just really want them to like my city... I just love your videos and its my dream to do one of the big trails in the US one day (preferably the pct)! Your vidoes were the first ones i watched and still cant get enough of them :)
As a spanish, I feel the same. I am not from the regions the camino de santiago francés passes on. I always love Dixie's videos and I am really happy she is in Spain now😃.
From Luxembourg and I feel exactly the same, especially having done a bunch of trails in Europe and +700 miles on the Appalachian Trail. I'm sorry Dixie that you had to be part of European humpage. Believe me, it's not a cultural thing ;)
Did you know one of the pilgrims you dined with (approx 13 minutes in) had started in Belgium. Meet her back in July on the Camino in northern France. Big surprise to see her in your vlog. Great to see she’s still on track. Her journey will be over 2400km long when she gets to Santiago.
Oh, and it's really mind blowing how nice people are in Spain and generally on the Camino. I got rides to town, free accomodation, meals, good tips and hints, everything from them. It's even better when you speak their language. And I always like to "pay forward" the good deeds with doing nice and good things for other people too. That's so much part of the Camino.
The reason we have the theme parks in the U.S. is the idea of bringing these places that you are visiting to the U.S. for people to experience. The backdrop of these theme parks is where you are now visiting. Keep up the great videos!
Dear Dixie, your reports of hiking, experiencing something, through hiking are absolutely one of the best. I like that you finally explore Europe. We also have also amazing really long hikes here. Your accent is great.
I was just thinking - your posts surely reflect how excited you are watching Montana's experience!! It's so wonderful that the two of you are able to share this together (AND, you're willing to share it with us!!)!!
The kindness of that lady in the ceramic shop was a lovely story to hear & restores some faith that there are kind people out there. And I expect it really gave you a lift for the journey ahead and some “pay it forward” when you also have the opportunity. Wonderful ❤️
That’s the Camino experience. I completed Leon to Santiago and ur was life changing. My trust in God grew so much in this days. He showed up everyday right when I needed it. What a great experience to have with your sister.
Watching yall’s experience on the Camino is making my heart so happy! The lady that gave you paint and space to paint your shells... that’s the kind of love the whole world needs to imitate ❤️
It's kinda really unreal to me that you are now in Europe and hike the same trails and see the same things that I've seen some years ago. You were that amazing (and still are) internet star from far away and now you're here with us. Welcome to Europe from me and all other "old" pilgrims!
When I went to Italy and Ireland a couple years ago we stayed in a bed a breakfast that had a sign on it that had been put on it I’m assuming judging by its age when it was built in like 625 CE. European culture built with rock and marble. Native Americans history was more of a cultural heritage than stone buildings, though have you been to Mesa verde or Montezuma’s castle or tuzingoot in the four corners region of AZ, NM, UT and CO? We have culture here but it has been more of a culture of the earth until the Industrial Age hit here in the 1700-1800s. I’m so glad you are having this experience with your sister. It’s great you have been able to immerse yourself there. Indeed the best part of travel are the people......there is natural beauty and good food too but when you take out the people from the equation it isn’t as amazing. Keep up your amazing adventures and sharing them with us when you feel inclined 😊
Your first feelings (even "why a STOP sign?") are what I felt, and still feel, after almost forty years of my first steps in Spain. It was a storybook that I did not want to end. Thank you for sharing this with us. Thank you for sharing this with Montana.
I went backpacking in Europe when I was seventeen and again at twenty-one, you're making memories that last your entire life. Please have fun and thanks for the vicarious thrills.
I have watched many Camino videos in the past couple years (I have done three) and yours are so refreshing- a change up on the usual videos. I am excited for your continuing journey!
After watching other hikers series videos of walking the AT and PCT I realized I got spoiled by watching yours first. No one else captures the trail experience quite like you do. Also your personality is just joyful! Thank you for making these videos so I can live vicariously through you! I will do a trail one day! I'm determined!
I remember one of the characters from The Way, went to el Camino in hopes to lose weight and never did because he was eating all the time! You two are having a great adventure, everything looks so beautiful over there.
20:50 I love the travel life! I've done about 8 months of solo travel throughout my life and there is such a great community among those who wonder. There have been many people I've meet- split rooms with, traveled with for a week(s) and never seen since but will always remember
I have watched a couple of Camino Vlogs, I must say I am enjoying yours so much more than others, you are bringing such an amazing perspective to this adventure. It looks like Montana is indeed enjoying it as well.
What you had described, in regard of the pottery shop’s lady, is what we call The Camino Magic....las magia del Camino. I guess it is similar to the trail magic you experienced along the american’s trails! In my 2 Caminos I learnt how wonderful people can be. What a great energy flows while on a long distance walk, and how every day becomes a special and magical day! Buen Camino to both of you!
I love how both of you are having so much fun together. I think that's one of the reasons I enjoy your videos. You're enjoying life...and nature and just being free. You're not posting like a reality show where all they do is party and drink. It's nice...and both of you are nice. We need more of that in the world. I hope to do the Camino one day. I'm 57yo...so trying to stay in shape. You're very pragmatic so all of your experience and comments are a big help to anyone pondering the Camino...or the other trails you've trod. Looking forward to more videos.
Timon lepidus - Ocellated Lizard Won't bite or hurt humans usually eats insects, beetles some fruit etc. On the list of threatened species. protected in Spain. 5:22
Watching this since I'm gonna start walking the camino later this year (but I'm taking the Via Podiensis, the way of S:t James that starts in Le Puy, France). It's really funny to hear you marvel over how the small spanish villages are genuine 😁 I suddenly feel sorry for you americans not having much of history in your towns?! Thank you for a really nice (and funny! camels walking, LOL!) video, gonna watch a whole lot more of yours...!
i am so glad you documented this! my heart is soaring and my eyes are filled with tears as i watch this because I CANNOT WAIT TO GO. I WILLLLLL GOOOOOO one day
Always enjoy your videos. I did the Camino in 2014 and it really had an impact on my outlook on life. It’s the safest way to experience Europe. Enjoy the people, food (cheap wine to) and scenery. Most of all enjoy your sister.
Im so enjoying your videos of the Camino and watching your experiences as many are so similar to mine yet also very different in some respects. Buen Camino!
Dixie, your photography and narrative as you travel are really great! You could absolutely have a future in travel photography or travel show kind of thing or whatever...you have a gift! It's great to go on this journey with you. My sister and I will be doing this journey in a few years...
I'm happy for you two that you're having such a great time on your hike. I love watching your great vids and experience Europe from a new perspective that way. And just imagine, this is only a tiny part of the continent. There are still so many more and vastly different hikes waiting to be explored here, like in the Scottish highlands, the Irish coast walks, the Fjells of Sweden and Norway, the Alps stretching through France, Swizerland, Italy, Austria, Germany and Slovenia (almost forgot to mention Liechtenstein and Monaco since they are so small), mediterranean islands like Corsica and Mallorca or really wild areas like the Carpatian mountains in the east of Europe, to name just a few, each with a wholly different nature, climate, history and culture. Though I have to admit, wine fountains are unfortunately not a common thing - but neither are camels humping in monasteries. Pepper grinding night time lions much more so, and wine or beer often have something to do with that. I can recommend the soft earplugs by Ohropax (the pink ones) to counter that, you should be able to get them in most drugstores or pharmacies.
Thanks...This seems like fun. i am glad to see your meeting people who can help you along the way and you two are growing together during the experience.. its nice to watch others go thru a journey and you know that when it ends they wont be the same..
What a joy to watch your videos on the Camino. I found you first on your PCT hike and again on the CDT. Also watched you and your mom and that oh so precious Fancy making up the missed PCT miles. This is such a different environment I can hardly believe it's you! So fun! I just love your personality. Thanks so much Dixie.
Such beautiful scenery you two are getting to see and experience! Some folks have no care for others who were trying to sleep! SHEESH! Montana, my thoughts and prayers are continuous for your feet! So glad you gals are enjoying the Journey through some very gorgeous countryside! Thanks so much for letting us travel along with you gals through videos!
Hi Dixie. I definitely get what you mean about the buildings looking like a theme park structure. I come from the U.K. and I’m still in awe of the age and beauty of buildings in both this and other countries. I wonder if the people who built them knew how beautiful they would be hundreds of years later?🙂 And my new best line is ‘hitch in your giddy up”! Much better than ‘a limp’.
Never surprises just how great of a community backpackers are (for the most part lol) So awesome that even in other countries people are being kind and helping out
Ohh so thanks for this video!!! I was questioning the shell situation too! You are soo awesome, and its so cool how u r experiencing the world with such openness without prejudice. Soo cool
Been watching some IBTAT videos from the PCT. When you said "back on trail" my brain did a flip as I imagined you finishing the sentence, IBTAT style! If you were ever to hike with or around him, a guest appearance in his morning greeting would be the ultimate hilarious moment. Safe travels and take care.
Jessica, I'm so glad that you haven't forgotten how to say "yay....!" I'll never tire of that. Great video with awesome videography including audio! And it sounds like ear plugs are worth carrying.
So sweet video ❤️I had to cry 😭 a couple of times, my grandfather passed away yesterday 😢😢😢 I’m determined to do al Camino to celebrate his long beautiful life
You say that everything looks so picturesque. We were there in 2016 and one thing that finally strikes you about it is that it is so CLEAN. Have you noticed that few things are served in paper or other disposable containers. Almost all are served in glass or something that can be washed. We finally caught on after about a week
Well done, Dixie! My niece and I find your work delightful! We noticed that you are a great editor! Very entertaining! Thank you for giving me a cameo appearance! It was quite a surprise to see me in your episode 3. You are a wonderful lady and I wish you all the best. Pixie
Girl I am living for your vlogs right now, been with you since the AT. I am an avid hiker who slipped on some wet grass and broke my right ankle in two places and have a triple break in my tib fib, can’t even walk. Thx for letting me hike through you!
Re historical buildings: it's common everywhere in EU - most villages have a history of 1000 years. The church in my little village stems from 1507. In Rome you will see large buildings, like the colosseum (amphitheatre), which have been built around the lifetime of Jesus Christ, and are still there, in the centre of the city, which was then already older than 500 years and the heart of the world.
The thing that amazes me it that they must have been built by hand without all the power equipment we take for granted now. Every time I see those stone walls and bridges and buildings I imagine all the labor that went into the construction.
Some parts of the walls of the city in south-east France I'm now living in are almost 2,000 yrs old (They were built between 200 and 300 AD ((Gallo-)Roman times!), even though most of what we can see is from later medieval times and also from later religion wars' time (16th c.). In some part you can actually see a roman column in it, that was put there during the construction. PS: Nice to see a longer episode, Dixie :)
I could never bore of watching your adventures. Thank you so much for sharing your hour WY with us. Again. What amazing communities you are experiencing.
Oh how I miss the Camino! I'm happy that the two of you are experiencing the kindness and culture. There are wonderful people everywhere! I wasn't fond of the wine from the fountain though. But the food along the way was excellent!
Very interesting today and a sentimental journey with two sisters who will always remember doing this very special passage together...as you ladies grow elderly, I can envision you sitting together and talking about this trip and these days. 💙💚. Thanks for sharing with us these once in a lifetime moments.
Yep! I've been taken into a Swiss cafe and fed croissants and coffee when lost and trying to find my way. They wouldn't take my Francs! Another time we came through a small village in Austria and found coffee and fresh fruit on a table beside the bike trail. Once in Scotland a B&B owner offered to refund our money and give us another night free because the airline had delays that cost us a day. I could go on and on with stories like that. The world really is a wonderful place once you turn off the tv and get out and enjoy it!
Enjoy your videos, often with jealousy 😉 as I would love to live my life more on the trail. Since living in the US seldom do I get the time to enjoy the outdoors as much as I used to when I lived in Europe, even though I live in Oregon (weekends are never long enough). Your recent videos on the Camino bring back many memories for me, I hiked it almost 20 years ago. Always enjoy your positivity and humble attitude to life in how you express your experiences.
WalMart - indeed they never made it to EU. They tried about 20 yrs ago, but luckily failed. Part of their "culture" is recognized here as inappropriate and humiliating their personal.
I saw a lizard like that on a day hike in France once too, I also took footage of it, we don't have them here. In fact there are a lot of pretty beetles in France that I love seeing when I'm there. Shimmery black ones, greenish golden ones. And big ones! Gotta love nature!
Yes, here in Europe is normal this switch and the wall to get light, if you push the bell fro somebody's home, just say:"Lo siento me equivoque" or Perdone, me equivoque" that's good so. I live in Switzerland and want to do the Camino Frances with my bicycle (I'm saving now) but when I saw this full albergues and this eating together...get really scared, I'm not good with too many persons around, about the snoring man, well I use earplugs at camping and albergues...I think I will wild camping and bivvying around so good it gets. Thanks for the great video. Take a look at the "Via Alpina" hiking trail here in Europe, maybe something for you Dixie! Kudos
My mum visited me in Spain and did exactly what you did with the doorbell. She thought it was a light switch, pressed it, then horrified turned and ran down the corridor back to my flat cos she realised it was a door bell. It was so funny and she was in her 70's at the time!!!😅
“If you have that much energy at the end of the day, maybe you need to walk some more” Love it 😂
Who else likes Dixies videos before watching them because you know they will be good
me 🙂
Jane Russrll me.
Thank y’all! That’s really sweet
Every time! I am just so darn excited for a new video!
She's the best 👍
lol...the footage of the snail crossing the finish line is priceless.
Yes, I loved it, too. And it's a beautiful snail! ❤💜
You out did yourself. This video is genuinely human. Excellent!

It must have been pretty common in earlier times. Remember: individual rooms for sleeping are a pretty recent development.
And I must compliment you on your photography of the small critters. You do a really good job of that.
It's not in every monastery that you hear camels walking together.
Hysterical!! :)
Mike! Mike! Mike! Mike! What day is it? It’s humpday.
Welcome to Europe!
I would kill to have these episodes be like an hour long

You can see how Montana has unfolded her wings and let her soul fly on the Camino. Beautiful!
this has become my favorite tv show! much better than netflix.
Out of all the multitude of Dixie videos I've ever watched, I think this one made me smile the most. :)

That’s the Western green lizard! Found from northern Spain to Italy
Avery the Cuban-American its the western emerald lizard😊
Western green lizard (lacerta bilineata)

So cool to watch you guys there. I did the Camino Frances in 2014, so it's just nonstop memories being activated :)
Buen Camino!
It was so lovely to meet you both and spend time getting to know you... seeing these videos is fantastic! Makes me want to come back!!

I thinks it's uber cool that you and Montana are sharing your Camino with everyone!
Sooo cool to drink wine from your custom shells together, what a nice memory to cherish for you two together 🤗
Im so enjoying your videos of the Camino and watching your experiences as many are so similar to mine yet also very different in some respects. Buen Camino!

You are my inspiration to someday at least section hike the AT. You and Montana are rock stars there in Spain. I love your videos.
The surreal feeling walking through European towns is something to behold! It's very hard to explain but a wonderful experience.

If you were ever to hike with or around him, a guest appearance in his morning greeting would be the ultimate hilarious moment. Safe travels and take care.
It’s funny that you’re amazed at the Spanish ‘trail magic’ (shell painting). ☺️
Love your videos of the Camino! So great to see a different style of hiking after your triple crown videos
Jessica, I'm so glad that you haven't forgotten how to say "yay....!" I'll never tire of that. Great video with awesome videography including audio!
And it sounds like ear plugs are worth carrying.
Both your shells are lovely. Thanks for sharing that part of your journey.
So sweet video ❤️I had to cry 😭 a couple of times, my grandfather passed away yesterday 😢😢😢 I’m determined to do al Camino to celebrate his long beautiful life
just beautiful! Thank you so much for sharing this little part of your journey! so special :)
You say that everything looks so picturesque. We were there in 2016 and one thing that finally strikes you about it is that it is so CLEAN. Have you noticed that few things are served in paper or other disposable containers. Almost all are served in glass or something that can be washed. We finally caught on after about a week
Loving this series. Been wanting to go back to Spain since I went over a decade ago, this has definitely fueled that desire.
Good video Dixie! You're giving us a tour of your whole experience and I think it's fantastic.
That was a delight! Thanks for sharing all your thoughts, images, and experiences with us. Very fun.
@@alexriddles492 And the engineering.
Travel is the best education. Teaches you about the world and how your country fits into it. Different important perspectives.
Loving your sense of humour Dixie (and Montanas), brilliant Vlog, thank you for sharing. Buen Camino
Love your way to enjoy the small things and to share it with us. A snail race! Love it!
You always bring to the forefront the most unique and genuine experiences of life 🥰
Great story about painting the shells - didn’t know for a long time that rollie polies were crustaceans
I could never bore of watching your adventures. Thank you so much for sharing your hour WY with us. Again. What amazing communities you are experiencing.
Thanks for taking us along on the trip, the buildings are very very cool. Love to watch your experiences!
"The sounds of humpage y'all" had me in stitches!!
Bahahah
Oh how I miss the Camino! I'm happy that the two of you are experiencing the kindness and culture. There are wonderful people everywhere! I wasn't fond of the wine from the fountain though. But the food along the way was excellent!
Dixie, your videos bring tears to my eyes. Awesome stuff!
These videos are so wholesome and positive. Love it.
Very interesting today and a sentimental journey with two sisters who will always remember doing this very special passage together...as you ladies grow elderly, I can envision you sitting together and talking about this trip and these days. 💙💚. Thanks for sharing with us these once in a lifetime moments.
Trail magic happens everywhere just not always in the same way.
I love that you painted your shells!
You look like have you're having a blast:) . Such a special time.
great video ! I still love your different point of view of the Camino. Buen Camino girls !!!
Always enjoy your positivity and humble attitude to life in how you express your experiences.
at 0:41 in your video, what word do you say when you say Montana mentioned how cool it is that we haven't seen a .....?
WalMart - indeed they never made it to EU. They tried about 20 yrs ago, but luckily failed. Part of their "culture" is recognized here as inappropriate and humiliating their personal.
@@Henning_Rech oh right...NO seeing a WALMART...thank gawd for THAT! :D
What an experience you are having. The shell story is wonderful
I saw a lizard like that on a day hike in France once too, I also took footage of it, we don't have them here. In fact there are a lot of pretty beetles in France that I love seeing when I'm there. Shimmery black ones, greenish golden ones. And big ones! Gotta love nature!
Omg you're having such an amazing adventure! Love it Dixie
I am really looking forward to my hike this summer.
A civilized hiking experience vs back woods... sounds great !
Watching this during quarantine, fantasizing about the future and what life holds.
The wildlife are so cute there and what great memories you and your sister are making. Beautiful!👌
I am enjoying this trip you are on so much. I will have to check into it to set my hike up there. Thanks for sharing.
Kudos
Love the story of the shells.
My mum visited me in Spain and did exactly what you did with the doorbell. She thought it was a light switch, pressed it, then horrified turned and ran down the corridor back to my flat cos she realised it was a door bell. It was so funny and she was in her 70's at the time!!!😅
"If you got that much energy at the end of the day, maybe you need to walk some more." 😂😂😂
