    Michigan fan here. I like and appreciate Urban's breakdown for the lay person. Once again I will be at the game tomorrow in Indy and hope the Wolverines don't have a let down against a sound Iowa team. We are going to have Jimmy back at Head Coach and it will be the last Big 10 game for many top Seniors. It will be fun and I know Iowa is going to play hard!

    Ready to see Iowa vs Michigan

    One of the best? Ask Michigan. Yes they won, but not because of their offense. The Wolverines came in averaging over 6.5 yards per play. Iowa held them to 3.23. That's averaging a 3 and out every series. Thanks to gaffes on special teams and offense, Michigan ran 24 plays in the second half on Iowa's half of the field where they can run their entire offense, and efficiency is at its maximum. They gained 37 yards. 37. Michigan's offense should only be credited with three points because Iowa scored the rest for them. Michigan had one long sustained scoring drive and that was their first, it netted them 3. Two years in a row where Iowa wasn't just elite on defense, it was the cream of the crop in terms of yards allowed per play. Even though Iowa's defense plays the equivalent of five quarters of football every game in terms of TOP and plays defended, compared to the rest of the elite defenses, Iowa still ranks as the most stingy with the ball. They did it despite being exhausted to the absolute maximum every game.
    Sure. One of the best.

    1 20+ yard run all year is insane. And it was a qb read option by Western Michigan, the worst team they played all year!

      Linebacker miss before the D was hitting all cylinders, soon corrected. But unless the linebackers can score - that's not much they will be able to do Sat.

      There are trade-offs here-ones that work well against teams of lesser talent and not so well against more talented teams. People wail about Michigan's weak schedule...the offenses Iowa played were pitiful.

      @@mkwy8782 Michigan played most of the same schedule, but the Iowa D did it better. Look at the YPP average on similar opponents. Iowa is the best in the country.
      No matter how good you are, there are always critics who think they are better.

    Penn State had 0 plays of over 20 yards against Iowa. Result, 31-0 Penn State. You don't need big plays to beat Iowa, and Michigan is more than capable of following the PSU model.

      Yep! Look at Michigan’s offensive plan against Iowa in 2022. Very methodical, only a couple shot plays, but they controlled possession and didn’t turn the ball over. But I’m hoping the Hawks can force some turnovers to give themselves a chance to win

    • @P319-c6n
      @P319-c6n 9 місяців тому +5

      Yes Penn state scored 31 points but they had under 400 yards of total offense and benefited greatly from four Iowa turnovers that led to short fields. If Iowa doesn’t turn it over it’s possible Iowa could hold Michigan to under 20 points (Michigan would still win comfortably maybe 17-0).
      Fortunately for Michigan, Deacon Hill is a turnover machine and it’s highly likely Iowa will turn it over a couple of times leading to short fields. Michigan should win 35-0 or something like that.

      The issue is Iowa's offense. Leave any D on the field for 90+ plays they will wear down and leak points. If Iowa could have mustered just 2 drives, equating to 2 less chances for PSU, they would have been able to compete.

      JJ and Corum are definitely not guaranteed a 20 yard rush. Braelon Allen, whos arguably better than Corum, got shut down by iowa defense.

    • @medmuscle
      @medmuscle 9 місяців тому +1

      The Iowa offense is the reason why Penn State scored 31 points. Penn State only averaged 4 yards per play total, which is an outstanding job by the Iowa D. If the Iowa offense was just competent, it would have been another low scoring game for Iowa's opponent.
