I had the cops called on me in the 70's while listening to this cranked up. The cop asked me what the hell was I listening to. He laughed and asked me where he could get the album. Hehehehe
I sang barbershop quartet music for 20 years...I competed at international contest as a qtet in New Orleans some years ago. I love that he had a quarter singing in the background. He was quoted as saying that his music takes people back to a kinder gentler time where as today's music doesn't.
We lost another great today. Leon Redbone passed away and his family jokingly and lovingly had this to say: “It is with heavy hearts we announce that early this morning, May 30th 2019, Leon Redbone crossed the delta for that beautiful shore at the age of 127. He departed our world with his guitar, his trusty companion Rover, and a simple tip of his hat.” RIP Leon Redbone ..
If anyone ipitomized the expression "A class act " it had to be Leon Redbone. There never has been nor will there ever be anyone with the style and class he eminated just by his sheer presence.
This was the first album of his I ever heard. To me, his is still the definitive version of this song. I have this in vinyl and just ordered my CD copy today. Brings back a lot of memories. Miss you, Leon!
I remember getting hooked on to this guy almost a decade ago now. "Seduced" was the first song from him I've heard, and this song sealed the deal. Unique talent who will be missed but not be forgotten.
I found this guy watching first season of SNL on Hulu. I thought it was going to be Redbone the band that that’s sang “come and get your love now”. Man I was surprised to see a white dude singing old blues song. Very well too. I’m an instant fan. Great voice. He was young to. Rip Leon Redbone cheers 🍻
A true practioneer of Americana music from the deep south. The kind of music we enjoyed listening too late at night, turned down, swinging on the front porch. We will talk about you, because for us you'll never be gone, because your music will live on forever in our hearts and souls. A man lives forever who is never forgotten. Rest in peace Mr. Redbone, truly one of a kind.
I've been a fan of his since the 70's ... I joined the Navy in 1975 and music was something that helped me make through the day. On the Tracks was my first introduction to Mr. Redbone and I was Hooked!!!!
Once in a while, you come across a novelist or a painter or a musician, who you feel speaks for you. Says something you would love to say , but is much more eloquent than you are. Leon Redbone spoke for me.
Thank you my friend for providing this music, it's hard to come by these days. You are criminally underrated and I'm going to do my part in sharing your music.
Does anyone remember the commercial that he did back in the 70's for Budweiser? Also, I was surprized when I found out that he was younger than he sounded. RIP Leon.
That ol moon sure does look in need of company some times...well..i suppose so do I. ..thank you Leon for this rendition and the best in my opinion...rest easy and well and shine on my friend
I think the best version of this song was done by him live on saturday night live season 1.. nobody on youtube has uploaded that version which i have to was his best and most clear version he ever made.. also there was another song he did on snl that was a masterpiece too…
@Dragon Rider. I think the second song Leon Redbone sang on SNL the night he sang, "Shine On Harvest Moon" back in the 1970's was either "Diddy Wa Diddie" or "Walking Stick". That performance by Leon on SNL was superb!

The melody of the first couple of lines seems to belong to some sort of sub-genre. It somewhat echoes songs or passages of songs I've heard before. As such, it has a distinct air of seriousness, adultness or even doom to it, and I hear undertones of licentiousness. I wonder what the musical formula at work is, which tradition it's a part of, and if the style has a name. I think it's gorgeous.
I had the cops called on me in the 70's while listening to this cranked up. The cop asked me what the hell was I listening to. He laughed and asked me where he could get the album. Hehehehe
Priceless!
Possibly the most recognizable, unique and enjoyable voice in music.
next to James Blunt, Sir Tom Jones, and Rod Stewart
Rest in peace Leon Redbone (August 26, 1949 - May 30, 2019)
Farewell Mr. Redbone... thanks for the amazing music...

Unique talent who will be missed but not be forgotten.
Out of a long career and innumerable songs with not a bad one among them, this one might be my favorite. This and "Moonlight Bay."
Just passed away today at the age of 127-according to him. Gonna miss ya, Leon
This arrangement is brilliant.
Variety is the spice of life , in a often drab world of cookie cutter music . Mr. Leon Redbone music is that spice in music ! Thank you !!!!!
A fave since it was released. Miss you, Leon. I like when the chorus comes in.
Always end up playing this around the time of the Harvest Moon, too.
The whistling too.

SNL, that's where I first heard and saw him, too.

I first saw Leon on SNL in '77 or so. First saw him live about a year later. Class act.

This is absolutely charming!
Are you new to his work?
Tell my dad hi, Leon! He's been waiting for you.
Andrew DeWeerd so has my mom. She loved Leon Redbone. 😊💕
Beautiful!
Double time is one of Leon's best albums. All songs are high quality like this one.
@ Karl Fisher. I had Leon Redbone's album, "Double Time" on 8-Track Tape. Great, great album! Leon never sang a bad song! I miss his music so much!
Thank you my friend for providing this music, it's hard to come by these days. You are criminally underrated and I'm going to do my part in sharing your music.
Sat at his feat at Key West appearance . .still feel the love and admiration for his beautiful music..
You will be sadly missed but never forgotten !
Rest In Peace LEON REDBONE 1949-2019. Death at the aged of 69. Thank you for sharing and career of music!
Leon Redbone is so totally laid back, and absolutely no one else sounds like him!
Does anyone remember the commercial that he did back in the 70's for Budweiser?
Also, I was surprized when I found out that he was younger than he sounded.
RIP Leon.
All of his T.V. Commercials are on this channel. Just check the Play List section.
こんなに 夢が有る歌い手は 余り居ないだろう。
I forgot I heard this on an old ass clip of SNL
This song took me into a different time
RIP Leon. Thanks for all your great music.
Spent a couple of hours with him at a bar in New Orleans, (Rosie's). 30 years ago, seems like yesterday! My 'go-to' song in the shower!!
Great story
My dad was a big Leon fan.
We sat in the 2nd row, left center stage for one of his concerts....you would have sworn you were listening to one of his albums. Perfect!

Leon, I still remember your performance of this on SNL a forever ago.
Now that I'm finally assembling my collection, this is a must.
Leon Redbone is an absolutely original performer, and such a treat. Will never forget a concert in Cleveland with Randy Newman. Great song.
That indeed sounds like one helluva night out...
RIP to a unique artist. Never disappoints.
My dad used to sing this to me when I was little. It's the only song I know every word to.
