  • Orifice Beta ratio is the ratio of Orifice bore to Pipe ID.
    A beta ratio of 0.4 signifies that the orifice bore diameter is 40% of the pipe inside diameter
    In this video we would learn the API MPMS graph and why do we have a range of beta ratio between 0.3 to 0.7

    Nice Video bro.
    ISO 5167 defines range of 0.2 to 0.7 . However while engineering we consider 0.3 to 0.7 as safe limits. But it is important to also consider straight lengths as your uncertainty and accuracy depends on straight lengths as recommended while sizing.
    ISO 5167 has a table mentioning straight run recommendations from beta ratio of 0.2 to 0.7 .

      Yes !! Very true ... Good point I will also make a video on Straight run recommendations in ISO 5167 and how it can affect accuracy ... Thanks for sharing 😊

    On 4.35, if we keep a 'very high' beta ratio then we will not be able to maintain the allowable pressure drop limit...
    I think low beta ratio will create more pressure drop.. & then it will difficult to maintain allowable pressure drop. .. please correct if I am wrong

    Is this beta ratio standard applicable for RO? or can be less as no measurement?

    • @AsadPassionateEngineer
      @AsadPassionateEngineer  Рік тому

      Yes 0.3 to 0.7 criteria is stringent for Orifice, for R.O this strictness can be relaxed 😊

    is it possible to use a orifice beta ratio of 0.2 on a 2 inch pipe? ( interview question) some documents saying that it can be between 0.2 to .7

    • @AsadPassionateEngineer
      @AsadPassionateEngineer  2 роки тому

      It is not recommended, however if the uncertainty and accuracy at the Beta ratio of 0.2 is acceptable and there is no other option feasible then it could be considered.
      Example : A Colleague working for NASA had shared that they had used a orifice with 0.2 Beta because that was the only feasible option for their application and the engineering team was ok with the accuracy and uncertainty.
      But as a rule of thumb this should be avoided 😊
