I have used sucanat in hydroponic setups and it most definitely changes the flavors. It mutes certain terpenes and makes all your strains taste very similar. It's okay to use in soil I suppose, but sugar attracts its own problems, ya dig.
Dude, I have been telling people that same thing but nobody gets it. you have to have microbes in your soil to break the sugars down small enough for the plants to take it up and use it in any fashion. Kudos to you bro!
The microbes are already in the organic soil unless you have sterilised it. Doesn't mean they aren't there if you can't see them.. they probably are happily thriving without you
I use 3-4 tablespoons per gallon and it yields a 20-30% increase. And I can't tell about the taste being altered by unsulfered molasses but I love the way it makes the buds swell. I been using it since the nineties. Cheers bro.
Tony Ramos. I wouldn't go with five. Most I'd use is four and that's only when they're five weeks or more into flower. Start with two then increase slowly to three then four max. Cheers bro.
Lex Blazer. Idk either. Never tried giving them less. I read an article in hightimes back in the late nineties and they we're using four tbs per gal for the entire flowering period. I did it that way a few times then cut down to doing it the way I do now. But you may be right. I'll try giving a few of them two tbs in late flower just to compare. Love your videos tho bro. From an organic farmer, if you want sugars and sweetness use seaweed or house manure. More natural and definitely adds sweetness. I might try molasses due to this video.
Bacteria in your soil feed on sugar and poop out perfectly seasoned food for your weed. Yes it works. I grow indoors during winter so NO PEST! Whohoo. God speed every one.
If you are growing inside start with fresh soil. I keep the stiky traps on hand. If you are outside then pest will always try. 40 yrs ago I thought I new what I was doing. We didnt know jack. It was the younger gen. that took it to the next level. Keep trying and dont give up! God speed.
@GOONZOOF neem oil is great, for inside and outdoor grows, But, my tried and tested method on my indoor babies, is, perlite, simply putting a layer of Perlite (about an inch thick) it really does reduce (or in my case totally got rid of them) Blackfly (knats) etc.. Now.. My question is.. When I'm doing a gorilla grow in some random field out in the middle of nowhere, how do I stop the rabbits from feasting on my plants, LOL.. Honestly this was my biggest concern last years crop.. Haha they literally ate half of my plants.. (bottom half they could reach, still had all babies there but they'd eaten the bottom half of the plants haha).. Answers on a postcard please.

A few years back a grower friend of mine had a bunch of extra plants, and he gave me a few to put in my greenhouse. I was experimenting with hydroponics, aeroponics nutrient solutions. I had a bunch of organic, concentrated fruit juices and decided to see what would happen if I added these to my watering solution. The results were incredible! The buds were huge and sticky. I gave a few buds to my grower friend to see what he thought. A couple days later he begged me for more! I haven't grown since, for a number of different reasons, but after hearing what you just said it makes perfect sense. I am getting ready to restart my aeroponic system and will be doing some controlled experiments, adding together what I know with what I have just learned from you. Thanks
Holy shit. I thought I was the only person to do this 😆😆 I took an entire large can of fruit punch and poured it around my plant. About 2 minutes later the 3 inch stalk turned bright red half way up the 8 ft tall plant. Couldn't believe my eyes lol. Freaked out and drowned the thing with about 5 gallons of water. Tasted just like fruit punch 😆 This year were gonna try puree because all those organic 100% juice brands use a deluted puree. I'm even considering using some peppermint extract. All organic, sunflower oil and pep oil is the ingredients
@@tignob i tried growing corsican mint around the base of my plants hoping they would have a minty flavour but i cut it down too soon......ive also been ph down my water with lemon juice which i have just found out kills all bacteria and micro organisms , which would explain why my plants dont take up much nutrients
I use sugar cane molasses and TBH watering with the deep-brown caramel-coloured water is psychologically very satisfying. The fact that the sugars stimulate soil microbes leads me to think that it's a good idea to used it a few times at the beginning of the vegetative phase.
love the video. I use 1/2 ounce of mixed with 1 gallon of water for each 5 gallon pot before planting seeds to feed the microbes in the soil and it seem to work as well as adding it at the start of flowering. I do see higher yields with this but no change in flavor or potency. I also add UVA which helps with growth, potency and flavor. love the fact that you are very professional in your presentation and will be looking for more of your videos

I recomend going full organic. Start by understanding the life in the soil and how you can reproduce them.There are many videos that will explain that. Soil microbiology is something they dont want you to understand, so you spend your money on expensive botttled nutrients and then on pesticides; I make my own nutrients.

thats whats up, I like to give mine a combination of coconut water/water powder (lignans, potassium, fruit sugars), alfalfa (plant steroid/helps increase C02 uptake) and aloe vera extract (aminos, everything else), they go crazy
You should be adding any organic fertilizer weeks before you actually want the plant to use it. It takes a couple weeks atleast for this stuff to start to really take effect.
You seem cool and you are correct about most of what you said but here is a free lesson,i do not use unsulfured molasses until the last 2 weeks. The only reason you do it is because the mycorrhizal network gets cut off by the plant in the last two week of harvest. The plant does this to focus more energy on the buds and seeds.The plant usually gives 30 percent of its photosynthates to this network in exchange for the (exudates)ionically bonded nutrients (like phosphorus) and the metals that need low ph to be absorbed(cations). So in the last two weeks when it is cut off you feed the soil food web the carbs (from the un sulfured molasses )so the microbes split ( that is when they produce the acids, enzymes,and volatile organic compounds) that helps all the minerals that need high ph around the root surface to be absorbed(amongst many other things). If you do it before the last two weeks your mycorrhizal network will cut off your plant (why give the plant all the exudates if you are getting he sugar for free),in essence you disrupt the symbiosis. Ironically it is easier to flush non organic because it is a salt bases fertilizer. Using osmotic pressure with ro water. When i grow organic which is the only way i grow i flush a little bit throughout the flowering cycle (every two weeks or so)and i do not at the end because i spoon feed the plants. I think of it as fattening your kid up and then starving him. Microbes breath oxygen like us and give off co2. When you water properly you exchange the co2 for fresh oxygen for the soil food web. You know when you water a plant and you did it a little too late and you see the water pool on the top the is a good sign that you probably are not exchanging the air properly what happens is water will combine with the co2 and make carbonic acid and will discourage root growth in that root zone. Been growing for a long long time i have fucked up in seeming every way possible but i learned and it cost me a lot of money but it makes me happy to know that maybe some other people will not repeat all the mistakes that i made,you have a large following and have the capacity to help a lot of people grow more and better medicine if you got any questions i got you bro just hit me up. my first grow .I'm growing ( water only) 2 snowryder autos fem in 2-gallon pots of (ffof/natures living soil )1lb nls 5gls of ffof mixed together and let sit in the bin for 2 months. each girl has her own 150hps she likes 82*/84* I do 18/6hr In a 4x2x4 tent small humidifier 50% hum daytime, at night I run 99% humidity 3 small fans(on at all times) 2 up top and one on floor and a nuk egg shape air purifier lights kept at 12in away at all times. finishing week 5. In 2 days my question Is do I need to add molasses, would that be too much I read snowryder Is a heavy feeder but autos don't always like too many nutes, so If I do is It every week or only ONCE on the day there are 2 weeks left?

If you are growing in a Super Soil type medium try "Recharge", If you haven't heard of it, it's a powder formulated for cannabis with Beneficial microbes + Kelp, Humic , Fulvic , Amino acids and Molasses as a microbe food.1/2 tsp per gal is all it takes! Sugar feeds aerobic bacteria in the soil. Aerobic bacteria feed the fungi. Fungi produce absorbable nutrients for the roots while the roots make sugars for the fungi. Its this whole big circle. Look up what mycorhizae is and you'll see what up
Correct. The sugars feed the microbes, BUT .. if you feed them this way. usually towards the end of flowering to get the beneficial bacteria going, will make them lazy, and stop breaking down the nutrients in the soil and instead want to feed off the sugar..Kelp is a much better alternative.. Not sure why this guy has a video like this.. He does not explain anything properly. Lol glad i finished watching before commenting!😂 I wa about to say... plays are autotrophic they make the own sugar and leach some to the soil for the beneficial microbes. They don't actually absorb added for extra crystals lol And more but I'd be basically Reiterating what you already said, and yes most people miss understand their use... Only part i do differently is i do run them later when into flush because the plant begins to get greedy with its sheets and keeps it for its self. Causing the microbes to die off or become dormant in late flower.. so even into flushing i'll use molasses to keep them working and breaking down and releasing foods in the soil for the plant. Helps with flushing by breaking down and still giving the plant what it needs more naturally!! But then yes final flushes h2o only
use the blackstrap mollases throughout the veg and into the early period of flowering, then switch to using coconut sugar which will give a much better tasting finish than mollasses which contains too much iron and magnesium for finishing.
@@ItMe138 you switch to coconut sugar to finish, you can include coconut sugar in flush but stay away from mollasses at that point as youll end up tasting the iron/magnesium which is better for veg
I use molasses it in coco choir I also use worm casting to the sum of 25% of my medium everything worked great I love the results don’t have a clue if it helped anything or not but by far some of the best cannabis I’ve had
❤New Subscriber to the channel ! & also a semi-novice grower, I've watched my father in law grow for YEARS & now I've finally decided to give growing a Go! And I have learned SO much useful things, and avoided many mistakes with your help! Wish me luck, I've got 4-5 plants left, 2 in pots & the rest are in the GROUND outdoors still. I'm hoping that the latest of the season doesn't hurt my yield.. As these plants SHOULD have flowers by now, (if they had not been cut down, if they'd been left to grow from seeds--) I planted 8-12 this year right after the frost, around spring. Forgot about the plants 😅 and then they started popping up around my yard and most of them died from being mowed, and 1 is a male, he's huge and I left him secluded alone, I may use him for edibles or something 1 was mainline by accidental mowing... (*So is there eyill time for buds? The mainline plants already recovering phase, and new branches are shooting from 2 Nodes. But the plants supplement super short -- hopefully will continue vegistaive and ill get nutrients today, but yeah just wanted to thank you. And anyone else who has any advice for my situation, please comment
Thanks Lex. I live in the Pocono Mountains. We have bears! Lot's of bears! I keep my grow indoors, which is laid out great. I have followed most of your program in the details with the grow and yields have been amazing. Huge plants, 6 feet by 5ft wide, 12 inch colas. 2 inches thick. Without any additives and completely organic. I do use a Brazilian Cockroach base for keeping insects out. And that works amazing. Haven't seen a bug in months. Regarding bears.... when nearing harvest time, outside, I definitely would not use anything sweet. Bears will tear up a plastic bag to shreds to get a lick of sugar. So, molasses is a definite no no outside here. I am looking to add some nutrients to this grow over the winter. What do you recommend. I keep an environment of around 75% H and temps around 75-80 during veg. Then I begin to lower humidity, leaving temp at 80 for a month. Buds swell nicely and thicken up. Funny how I stopped my personal growing 25 years ago, and now at 65, have a nice set up and do a 4-month finish set up. Aging jars for a couple of months also creates a great cure. Composted potatoes are a good carb source and the smell is actually a turn off for bears. Just a tip for smokers dealing with smokey. 🐻 When using sugars in a cannabis grow always leave a more attractive sugar nearby for the critters and some essential aromatic oils such as peppermint around the area to mask the desired soil sugars odor.

I use half a jar of molasses from local dollar tree 4 banana peels dried and cut in to small chunks and 5 k cup used coffee grounds put in empty 2 litter bottle with water mixed shake up daily for 3 weeks . Best bloom and flower booster you can make for cheap. Definitely makes flower stage go nuts with growth and buds will get bigger i add one cup of this mix into a spray bottle of water and spray my plants. Definitely need to try my recipe if ya looking for a cheap way to boost your buds size and flower stage growth to bloom
First time grower here! Love Lex's world videos. Many tips and strategy's here. I am doing the molasses now in flower. In week five and man the collas are swelling up nicely. To the point where my fellow grower are shocked, that my plant looks so good! So far so good,as far as no bugs! The strain is space man, and is getting fat and frosty! Can't wait to give it a try!
It's not really worth it to do this at all, but especially at the stage your plants were in. The microbes in the soil wouldn't have even started to break down the sugars by the time you harvest. The risk of attracting bugs verse the minor maybe-reward is not worth it at any time. I've been at this for 26 years. I find a lot of bad advice on UA-cam and this is bad advice
I used molasses, and brown sugar last year. I have smoked for over 20 years and never smelt weed as strong as that batch. I could smell my wife breaking up some bud in the other room. Now that is strong smelling weed.
I used it instead of honey about five years ago. I use molasses in veg for micronutrients, then switch to agave nectar in flowering when you need to lay off the micronutrients so your buds burn right and clean.
I use molasses and epsom salts later on when my dry amendments are running out. Plants release their own sugars from the roots to attract certain microorganisms that contain specific nutrients they need, so I try not to mess with what they are trying to do unless necessary when they are mature but it's only my opinion. Recently discovered in between cell wall and the inside of the cell plants have a layer where they store microbes containing specific nutrients until they need them.

I use unsulfered molasses and honey and my buds come out sweet and smooth. The green crack I harvested actually had a smell resembling fruit loops, at least everyone I smoked it with thought so and they all loved it.
We produce around 19 to 20 rate thc with just 2 Power feed for grow . Optimum bloom go lower Water last week on good soil . This is with jackhammer strain simple and effective
I poured old one part sugar and 4 parts water out of my hummingbird feeder on a small willow cutting that had been growing slow and it took off like crazy.
Been using molasses for years and years. Now also using JADAM fert methods. Plants love it and it is free. Organic grows from seed, outdoors, are best in my experience. Not sure but the fermented, rotten smelling JADAM stuff seems to do a good job repelling pests on our three sisters crop. Same with beets, carrots, potatoes, etc.
I am looking to add JDAM to my soil prep (first saw JDAM on the ‘Grow like a Viking’ channel). Currently I use chicken litter (ie wood shavings and poop) along with animals that have passed on the farm, moldy hay and leaves from the lawn. I get 9’+ plants with lots of leaf growth. Hoping the sugar and JDAM will help the buds get bigger - bigger is better…. Just found this channel. Looking forward to learning new methods.

I've recently used organic molasses on my outdoor plants. I started the first week of flowering and added right til the end. My first plant grew 2m high x 2.3m wide. 5 branches, each branch 2m long and I yielded 3lb of bud. The buds were suoer sticky even when fully cured and dried. My 2nd plant is the same size but by looking at it, it's has more fatter crowns on it. I'm estimating 3.5lb of buds yielded. I definetly will be using mollases in every grow I do from now on. A big plus to your plants. My soil was treated for 3 months with garden mulch compost and food scraps from the kitchen.

@@dubtowndubbers7523 I use grade a Amber maple syrup. I heard that we will have a shortage of syrup this year. Get now before price rises. I use one tablespoon to one gallon. Last 2 weeks of flowering I raise it to 2 tablespoons per gallon. Happy growing!
While you are correct that plants cannot directly absorb carbohydrates through the roots, sucrose, ribose, and fructose as well as glucose are prone to leach out of the roots during heavy watering. By adding even a small amount of sugar to your water/ nutrient mix you can eliminate or minimize it. That in turn means that more sugars stay in the plant, and are used for whatever the plant uses them for, energy, building material, etc Additionally, ion/cation exchange does not allow for sugar absorption, but simple sugars can sometimes pass through cell walls(polysaccharide) when certain enzymes are present by opening small seams in the plasmodesmata. Not all plants have this function, and it has been discovered that some plants native to certain regions have it, while the same plant from another region will not. What this means is basically, it's possible that some cannabis strains may be able to "envelope" certain nutrients thru the phospholipid bilayer when the wall is permeable

Mycorrhizal fungi should have a balanced diet: fats, proteins and all carbohydrates - starches as well as sugars. I like to mix dried rice through the soil as a starch source. Also, you can turn nutrient in a paste, put them on top of the soil and cover them with mulch - hemp bedding is great, can be bought in pet stores, and supports the hemp industry, it also contains no toxins because those would poison pets; or straw, anything that can decompose. You can make a paste of for instance an one part grains (hempseed, rice, corn, oats) and 3 or 4 parts organic nutrients (bonemeal, bloodmeal, guanos, alfalfa pellets, rockphosphate, lava meal, magnesium lime - whatever the plant needs), mix with some water into a thick paste that cannot be flushed into the medium. Water the soil with a low concentration of late flowering food. Apply the paste to no more than 1/3 of the top of the soil. Put a piece of soft fruit around it - banana, pineapple, orange. Completely cover it up with the mulch. Don't water it in. By letting it sit on top of the soil, you're giving the soil fungus a chance at consuming it, using the calories for energy and guide the nutrients to the plant. For this method to work best you should also use a water reservoir or bottom watering method like a dish or a flood floor to water your plants, in order to not disturb the soil fungus. (Plants keep the rain off the soil by growing a nearly impenetrable foliage.) Also, water should have the same temperature as the plant. For this purpose, let it stand next to the plant for at least an hour, even a day or two, and you'll see the difference.

Though molasses will feed soil microbes, it's unwise to use for that purpose as you want your soil microbes feeding on what is in the soil. When microbes interact with roots, the roots will exude sugars in exchange for elemental ions. If the soil is rich with molasses, that process will be slowed or hindered some. IMO, it's best to use molasses in your foliar spray as molasses is teaming with micros and trace elements.
@@DarthTrilluminati The underside is more prefered as droplets won't magnify the sunlight and cook the leaves, but other than that I would not worry about residues as in most plants we're not eating the leaves, but the plants we do eat the leaves we wash thoroughly.
actually it has nothing to do with the sugars at all, its the micronutrients that are in the molasses. Ive been growing giant pumpkins for years and growers have been using molasses and milk based products for ever. its the trace nutrients that most soils are missing that helps plants. Seaweed extract is also a very good foliar spray along with fish extract.
Sulfur is linked to taste. I don't know where I heard that, but I did, and because of that, I think mixing a little bit of sulfured molasses with a majority of unsulfured (sulfur is only needed a little bit by the plant).
Marcelo Bellissimo Bears don't eat the honey! Instead they roll in it so that the bees get stuck in their fur...so that they can't sting. Then they go ahead and eat the larvae!
I tap a maple tree and keep a couple jugs of sap in the fridge for the season to add to my garden tee.. also throwing in a couple banana peels in seems to do the trick . I basically keep a 5gal pail 3/4 full of water with an air stone and jus keep adding a handful of worm castings & or manure with sum moldy grass/straw for fungal boost and add the sugar when it stops making foamy bubbles. Then add it to plants after a rain when ground is already wet so bacteria & microbes don't dry up & die .
I just find sugar helps a plant grow to it full potential and can continue your growing by 3xs as much as far as I could tell. Grain sugar can be used once a flower is cut and to keep them freshers longer. Like a rose in a vase.
On my first grow using molasses and I am seeing some better bud formation a bit sooner! Good stuff! I have been growing for 37 years without it, but I use banana peel tea which may be of help with the carbohydrates for the soil microbes.

I am thinking a banana beer would work better, considering the sugars are converted. Still the liquor out of the beer and use whats left... in theory.. I have been relying heavily on charcoal lately, and small bits of molasses and calmag. 10th doses,.. and the charcoal takes care of the rest..

Yo Lex, check this out..Like you said, during flowering stages, I lower my PH with molasses, a bonus! I pour 1/4 jar into another jar and fill that with water and shake the dogshit out of it. Then just add until the desired ph level. I reckon that'll work with chemical fertilizers too, if that's what they into.
Hey I'm trying a experiment with some bag seeds. I use 4 table spoons of molasses and 4 table spoons of fish/seaweed fertilizer per gallon of water. I'm now mixing used coffee grounds and my weed ash to make a super carbon fertilizer. Anyone try this? It's 9/12/19 Will let you know how the plants grow and taste (if female)

A note on the directions in this video: like with all additives you mix into your water, you should not be adding your sugars on every single watering...I recommend to add nutrients only every 2nd watering, and the same goes for adding sugars during flowering.

I have used sucanat in hydroponic setups and it most definitely changes the flavors. It mutes certain terpenes and makes all your strains taste very similar. It's okay to use in soil I suppose, but sugar attracts its own problems, ya dig.

Dude, I have been telling people that same thing but nobody gets it. you have to have microbes in your soil to break the sugars down small enough for the plants to take it up and use it in any fashion. Kudos to you bro!

The microbes are already in the organic soil unless you have sterilised it. Doesn't mean they aren't there if you can't see them.. they probably are happily thriving without you

I use 3-4 tablespoons per gallon and it yields a 20-30% increase. And I can't tell about the taste being altered by unsulfered molasses but I love the way it makes the buds swell. I been using it since the nineties. Cheers bro.
3-4 tablespoons is quite a bit....but not unheard of. Not sure if you're getting anything extra out of those last 2 Tbsps

From an organic farmer, if you want sugars and sweetness use seaweed or house manure. More natural and definitely adds sweetness. I might try molasses due to this video.

If you are growing inside start with fresh soil. I keep the stiky traps on hand. If you are outside then pest will always try. 40 yrs ago I thought I new what I was doing. We didnt know jack. It was the younger gen. that took it to the next level. Keep trying and dont give up! God speed.
@GOONZOOF neem oil is great, for inside and outdoor grows, But, my tried and tested method on my indoor babies, is, perlite, simply putting a layer of Perlite (about an inch thick) it really does reduce (or in my case totally got rid of them) Blackfly (knats) etc.. Now.. My question is.. When I'm doing a gorilla grow in some random field out in the middle of nowhere, how do I stop the rabbits from feasting on my plants, LOL.. Honestly this was my biggest concern last years crop.. Haha they literally ate half of my plants.. (bottom half they could reach, still had all babies there but they'd eaten the bottom half of the plants haha).. Answers on a postcard please.

How often should I use my unaltered molasses
A few years back a grower friend of mine had a bunch of extra plants, and he gave me a few to put in my greenhouse. I was experimenting with hydroponics, aeroponics nutrient solutions.
I had a bunch of organic, concentrated fruit juices and decided to see what would happen if I added these to my watering solution.
The results were incredible! The buds were huge and sticky. I gave a few buds to my grower friend to see what he thought. A couple days later he begged me for more!
I haven't grown since, for a number of different reasons, but after hearing what you just said it makes perfect sense.
I am getting ready to restart my aeroponic system and will be doing some controlled experiments, adding together what I know with what I have just learned from you.

Holy shit. I thought I was the only person to do this 😆😆 I took an entire large can of fruit punch and poured it around my plant. About 2 minutes later the 3 inch stalk turned bright red half way up the 8 ft tall plant. Couldn't believe my eyes lol. Freaked out and drowned the thing with about 5 gallons of water. Tasted just like fruit punch 😆
This year were gonna try puree because all those organic 100% juice brands use a deluted puree.
I'm even considering using some peppermint extract. All organic, sunflower oil and pep oil is the ingredients
@@tignob i tried growing corsican mint around the base of my plants hoping they would have a minty flavour but i cut it down too soon......ive also been ph down my water with lemon juice which i have just found out kills all bacteria and micro organisms , which would explain why my plants dont take up much nutrients
I use sugar cane molasses and TBH watering with the deep-brown caramel-coloured water is psychologically very satisfying.
The fact that the sugars stimulate soil microbes leads me to think that it's a good idea to used it a few times at the beginning of the vegetative phase.

love the video. I use 1/2 ounce of mixed with 1 gallon of water for each 5 gallon pot before planting seeds to feed the microbes in the soil and it seem to work as well as adding it at the start of flowering. I do see higher yields with this but no change in flavor or potency. I also add UVA which helps with growth, potency and flavor. love the fact that you are very professional in your presentation and will be looking for more of your videos

I recomend going full organic. Start by understanding the life in the soil and how you can reproduce them.There are many videos that will explain that. Soil microbiology is something they dont want you to understand, so you spend your money on expensive botttled nutrients and then on pesticides; I make my own nutrients.
When I first started I found the "Canna Bible" to be very informative and helpful. Lots of misinformation out there. Less is more 😎

You should be adding any organic fertilizer weeks before you actually want the plant to use it. It takes a couple weeks atleast for this stuff to start to really take effect.
You seem cool and you are correct about most of what you said but here is a free lesson,i do not use unsulfured molasses until the last 2 weeks. The only reason you do it is because the mycorrhizal network gets cut off by the plant in the last two week of harvest. The plant does this to focus more energy on the buds and seeds.The plant usually gives 30 percent of its photosynthates to this network in exchange for the (exudates)ionically bonded nutrients (like phosphorus) and the metals that need low ph to be absorbed(cations). So in the last two weeks when it is cut off you feed the soil food web the carbs (from the un sulfured molasses )so the microbes split ( that is when they produce the acids, enzymes,and volatile organic compounds) that helps all the minerals that need high ph around the root surface to be absorbed(amongst many other things). If you do it before the last two weeks your mycorrhizal network will cut off your plant (why give the plant all the exudates if you are getting he sugar for free),in essence you disrupt the symbiosis.
Ironically it is easier to flush non organic because it is a salt bases fertilizer. Using osmotic pressure with ro water.
When i grow organic which is the only way i grow i flush a little bit throughout the flowering cycle (every two weeks or so)and i do not at the end because i spoon feed the plants. I think of it as fattening your kid up and then starving him.
Microbes breath oxygen like us and give off co2. When you water properly you exchange the co2 for fresh oxygen for the soil food web.
You know when you water a plant and you did it a little too late and you see the water pool on the top the is a good sign that you probably are not exchanging the air properly what happens is water will combine with the co2 and make carbonic acid and will discourage root growth in that root zone.

Molasses feeds beneficial soil microbes which in turn break down nutrients making them more bioavailable for the plant to use is my understanding.
Sugar feeds aerobic bacteria in the soil. Aerobic bacteria feed the fungi. Fungi produce absorbable nutrients for the roots while the roots make sugars for the fungi. Its this whole big circle.

The sugars feed the microbes, BUT .. if you feed them this way. usually towards the end of flowering to get the beneficial bacteria going, will make them lazy, and stop breaking down the nutrients in the soil and instead want to feed off the sugar..Kelp is a much better alternative.. I wa about to say... plays are autotrophic they make the own sugar and leach some to the soil for the beneficial microbes. They don't actually absorb added for extra crystals lol
And more but I'd be basically Reiterating what you already said, and yes most people miss understand their use...
Only part i do differently is i do run them later when into flush because the plant begins to get greedy with its sheets and keeps it for its self. Causing the microbes to die off or become dormant in late flower.. so even into flushing i'll use molasses to keep them working and breaking down and releasing foods in the soil for the plant. Helps with flushing by breaking down and still giving the plant what it needs more naturally!!

use the blackstrap mollases throughout the veg and into the early period of flowering, then switch to using coconut sugar which will give a much better tasting finish than mollasses which contains too much iron and magnesium for finishing.

I use molasses it in coco choir I also use worm casting to the sum of 25% of my medium everything worked great I love the results don’t have a clue if it helped anything or not but by far some of the best cannabis I’ve had
Worm castings is like vitamins for the plants also keep them from drying out to fast flowering mode castings are needed to get through flowering

Thanks Lex. I live in the Pocono Mountains. We have bears! Lot's of bears! I keep my grow indoors, which is laid out great. I have followed most of your program in the details with the grow and yields have been amazing. Huge plants, 6 feet by 5ft wide, 12 inch colas. 2 inches thick. Without any additives and completely organic. I do use a Brazilian Cockroach base for keeping insects out. And that works amazing. Haven't seen a bug in months. Regarding bears.... when nearing harvest time, outside, I definitely would not use anything sweet. Bears will tear up a plastic bag to shreds to get a lick of sugar. So, molasses is a definite no no outside here. I am looking to add some nutrients to this grow over the winter. What do you recommend. I keep an environment of around 75% H and temps around 75-80 during veg. Then I begin to lower humidity, leaving temp at 80 for a month. Buds swell nicely and thicken up. Funny how I stopped my personal growing 25 years ago, and now at 65, have a nice set up and do a 4-month finish set up. Aging jars for a couple of months also creates a great cure. Thanks for your videos. They have certainly helped. Good job !

Composted potatoes are a good carb source and the smell is actually a turn off for bears. Just a tip for smokers dealing with smokey. 🐻 When using sugars in a cannabis grow always leave a more attractive sugar nearby for the critters and some essential aromatic oils such as peppermint around the area to mask the desired soil sugars odor.

I use half a jar of molasses from local dollar tree 4 banana peels dried and cut in to small chunks and 5 k cup used coffee grounds put in empty 2 litter bottle with water mixed shake up daily for 3 weeks . Best bloom and flower booster you can make for cheap. Definitely makes flower stage go nuts with growth and buds will get bigger i add one cup of this mix into a spray bottle of water and spray my plants. Definitely need to try my recipe if ya looking for a cheap way to boost your buds size and flower stage growth to bloom
First time grower here! Love Lex's world videos. Many tips and strategy's here. I am doing the molasses now in flower. In week five and man the collas are swelling up nicely. To the point where my fellow grower are shocked, that my plant looks so good! So far so good,as far as no bugs! The strain is space man, and is getting fat and frosty! Can't wait to give it a try!
It's not really worth it to do this at all, but especially at the stage your plants were in. The microbes in the soil wouldn't have even started to break down the sugars by the time you harvest. The risk of attracting bugs verse the minor maybe-reward is not worth it at any time. I've been at this for 26 years. I find a lot of bad advice on UA-cam and this is bad advice
I used molasses, and brown sugar last year. I have smoked for over 20 years and never smelt weed as strong as that batch. I could smell my wife breaking up some bud in the other room. Now that is strong smelling weed.

I used it instead of honey about five years ago. I use molasses in veg for micronutrients, then switch to agave nectar in flowering when you need to lay off the micronutrients so your buds burn right and clean.

I use molasses and epsom salts later on when my dry amendments are running out. Plants release their own sugars from the roots to attract certain microorganisms that contain specific nutrients they need, so I try not to mess with what they are trying to do unless necessary when they are mature but it's only my opinion. Recently discovered in between cell wall and the inside of the cell plants have a layer where they store microbes containing specific nutrients until they need them.

Brer Rabbit molasses is what I've used for years! Very nice solid buds with alittle more stickier buds!
I use unsulfered molasses and honey and my buds come out sweet and smooth. The green crack I harvested actually had a smell resembling fruit loops, at least everyone I smoked it with thought so and they all loved it.
Lay off molasses in flowering. You want to flush the micronutrients in flower so your buds burn clean. Agave nectar is cheaper than honey.

I poured old one part sugar and 4 parts water out of my hummingbird feeder on a small willow cutting that had been growing slow and it took off like crazy.
Been using molasses for years and years. Now also using JADAM fert methods. Plants love it and it is free. Organic grows from seed, outdoors, are best in my experience. Not sure but the fermented, rotten smelling JADAM stuff seems to do a good job repelling pests on our three sisters crop. Same with beets, carrots, potatoes, etc.
I am looking to add JDAM to my soil prep (first saw JDAM on the ‘Grow like a Viking’ channel). Currently I use chicken litter (ie wood shavings and poop) along with animals that have passed on the farm, moldy hay and leaves from the lawn. I get 9’+ plants with lots of leaf growth. Hoping the sugar and JDAM will help the buds get bigger - bigger is better…. Just found this channel. Looking forward to learning new methods.

I've recently used organic molasses on my outdoor plants. I started the first week of flowering and added right til the end.
My first plant grew 2m high x 2.3m wide. 5 branches, each branch 2m long and I yielded 3lb of bud. The buds were suoer sticky even when fully cured and dried.
My 2nd plant is the same size but by looking at it, it's has more fatter crowns on it. I'm estimating 3.5lb of buds yielded.
I definetly will be using mollases in every grow I do from now on.

My soil was treated for 3 months with garden mulch compost and food scraps from the kitchen.

@@dubtowndubbers7523 I use grade a Amber maple syrup. I heard that we will have a shortage of syrup this year. Get now before price rises. I use one tablespoon to one gallon. Last 2 weeks of flowering I raise it to 2 tablespoons per gallon. Happy growing!
While you are correct that plants cannot directly absorb carbohydrates through the roots, sucrose, ribose, and fructose as well as glucose are prone to leach out of the roots during heavy watering. By adding even a small amount of sugar to your water/ nutrient mix you can eliminate or minimize it. That in turn means that more sugars stay in the plant, and are used for whatever the plant uses them for, energy, building material, etc
Additionally, ion/cation exchange does not allow for sugar absorption, but simple sugars can sometimes pass through cell walls(polysaccharide) when certain enzymes are present by opening small seams in the plasmodesmata. Not all plants have this function, and it has been discovered that some plants native to certain regions have it, while the same plant from another region will not. What this means is basically, it's possible that some cannabis strains may be able to "envelope" certain nutrients thru the phospholipid bilayer when the wall is permeable

Mycorrhizal fungi should have a balanced diet: fats, proteins and all carbohydrates - starches as well as sugars.
I like to mix dried rice through the soil as a starch source. Also, you can turn nutrient in a paste, put them on top of the soil and cover them with mulch - hemp bedding is great, can be bought in pet stores, and supports the hemp industry, it also contains no toxins because those would poison pets; or straw, anything that can decompose.
You can make a paste of for instance an one part grains (hempseed, rice, corn, oats) and 3 or 4 parts organic nutrients (bonemeal, bloodmeal, guanos, alfalfa pellets, rockphosphate, lava meal, magnesium lime - whatever the plant needs), mix with some water into a thick paste that cannot be flushed into the medium.
Water the soil with a low concentration of late flowering food.
Apply the paste to no more than 1/3 of the top of the soil.
Put a piece of soft fruit around it - banana, pineapple, orange. Completely cover it up with the mulch. Don't water it in. By letting it sit on top of the soil, you're giving the soil fungus a chance at consuming it, using the calories for energy and guide the nutrients to the plant.
For this method to work best you should also use a water reservoir or bottom watering method like a dish or a flood floor to water your plants, in order to not disturb the soil fungus. (Plants keep the rain off the soil by growing a nearly impenetrable foliage.)
Also, water should have the same temperature as the plant. For this purpose, let it stand next to the plant for at least an hour, even a day or two, and you'll see the difference.

(LONG STORY)Yeah, Cervantes was what taught me my fundamentals to growing Marijuana specifically when I was a young guy, 16,17-ish. I had already had a few nursery involved jobs,(knew my plants)but always had a favorite😉 read Jorge's first book religiously, had growers wanting advice 15 years older than me. thought i was some kinda cannabis messiah. I'd recommended the book,, but why waste your time studying when you could just call me and ask a million ?'s first job ever was filling huge greenhouses, making the best massive fuchsia +super petunia baskets in oregon(possibly)From pots, soil, plugs, secret sauce, +lil tedious stuff, My old Mr. Miyagi dude hired me straight outta a 9th grade job shadow. After 1 yr. of trust, got 2c his personal underground bunker-like thing growing....-u guessed it! Year was 1996
Though molasses will feed soil microbes, it's unwise to use for that purpose as you want your soil microbes feeding on what is in the soil. When microbes interact with roots, the roots will exude sugars in exchange for elemental ions. If the soil is rich with molasses, that process will be slowed or hindered some. IMO, it's best to use molasses in your foliar spray as molasses is teaming with micros and trace elements.
What about trace molasses on the leaves after the water evaporates? I only spray under the leaves and never on top, does that help?
@@DarthTrilluminati The underside is more prefered as droplets won't magnify the sunlight and cook the leaves, but other than that I would not worry about residues as in most plants we're not eating the leaves, but the plants we do eat the leaves we wash thoroughly.

actually it has nothing to do with the sugars at all, its the micronutrients that are in the molasses. Ive been growing giant pumpkins for years and growers have been using molasses and milk based products for ever. its the trace nutrients that most soils are missing that helps plants. Seaweed extract is also a very good foliar spray along with fish extract.

Sulfur is linked to taste. I don't know where I heard that, but I did, and because of that, I think mixing a little bit of sulfured molasses with a majority of unsulfured (sulfur is only needed a little bit by the plant).

I tap a maple tree and keep a couple jugs of sap in the fridge for the season to add to my garden tee.. also throwing in a couple banana peels in seems to do the trick . I basically keep a 5gal pail 3/4 full of water with an air stone and jus keep adding a handful of worm castings & or manure with sum moldy grass/straw for fungal boost and add the sugar when it stops making foamy bubbles. Then add it to plants after a rain when ground is already wet so bacteria & microbes don't dry up & die .

I just find sugar helps a plant grow to it full potential and can continue your growing by 3xs as much as far as I could tell. Grain sugar can be used once a flower is cut and to keep them freshers longer. Like a rose in a vase.
How often should you feed the molasses to the flowering plant ? Once a week, twice a week ?
I do once a week myself, and around 1 tbs per gal. I also add Enzymes and let it bubble for a while with an airstone.
"Blackstrap" molasses is a good one. I use it two weeks before harvest to flush out my plants.
Using mycorizzhae (beneficial fungi) and molasses with seaweed extract would probably greatly increase yield.

On my first grow using molasses and I am seeing some better bud formation a bit sooner! Good stuff! I have been growing for 37 years without it, but I use banana peel tea which may be of help with the carbohydrates for the soil microbes.

@@BobbySouthBlvd 3 years, but have recently been dealing with using too much and perhaps offsetting the beneficial bacteria with too much extra sugars... I am thinking a banana beer would work better, considering the sugars are converted. Still the liquor out of the beer and use whats left... in theory.. I have been relying heavily on charcoal lately, and small bits of molasses and calmag. 10th doses,.. and the charcoal takes care of the rest..

My yeilds aren't as high as when I used stuff like advanced nutrients, but I have to pay very little to nothing for the stuff I am using now... Yo Lex, check this out..Like you said, during flowering stages, I lower my PH with molasses, a bonus! I pour 1/4 jar into another jar and fill that with water and shake the dogshit out of it. Then just add until the desired ph level. I reckon that'll work with chemical fertilizers too, if that's what they into.
So if I understand your comment correctly you are using the molasses as a way to bring down the ph?
Hey I'm trying a experiment with some bag seeds. I use 4 table spoons of molasses and 4 table spoons of fish/seaweed fertilizer per gallon of water. I'm now mixing used coffee grounds and my weed ash to make a super carbon fertilizer. Anyone try this? It's 9/12/19 Will let you know how the plants grow and taste (if female)
