I’m planning on moving to Salem soon this year. I’m waiting for a call back for this 1 bedroom apartment so I can fly out there with my older sister and finished the application in person. Hey there!! Some people here say they don’t want more people moving in because it’s making traffic worse, housing prices rise, etc but I feel like you find people like that everywhere. I’ve had many clients move here from all over CA & are really loving it here. :)
My wife and I are panning to move to Salem sometime this year. Going by some of the ice storm video we just saw, I hope we can find a home that isn't at risk of getting crushed by falling trees....
Hi there!! Yes rainfall and cloud coverage is pretty much the same as Portland. As far as housing costs go....you can get waaayyyy more for your money here in the Salem area. I have many buyers who I have worked with in the past that purchase in Salem or Keizer and move here from Portland and choose to just commute there (the drive from here is pretty much just an hour on the freeway, so not too bad) because you can get SO much more for your money. The farther north you go towards Portland the higher the prices go up. Hope that answers your questions!
This video misses a few points: True, you do not pump your own gas. However, be prepared to spend more time waiting at the gas station while the attendant pumps everyone else's (and retrieves cigarettes). This antiquated law is a pain if you are able and want to pump your own gas, and don't want the attendant to spill gas on your car. Fortunately, if you ride a motorcycle you can pump your own gas. No sales tax is nice. However, government is poorly funded. Some schools cut the class year to save money. Some districts don't offer PE. Oregon's educational system is not well regarded. That is not good for children. Salem is not bike friendly. This was told to me by several different bike shops. My experience with public transportation was mediocre. Salem does have the four seasons. However, winters get snow and days of freezing weather. I recall snow followed by five days of subzero weather. This comes from a person who has live in Oregon for 20+ years, including West Salem. And I'm not trying to sell you anything.
When I look up the weather for Oregon it shows temps 20°F and up and I'm used to Northeast snow storms. If its not 0 to -12 FAHRENHEIT in winter with 90+ inches annual snowfall then we good, lol.
Hi, there. Any downfalls? My wife and I will likely be moving to Oregon or Washington (uncle lives in Portland) and we may scout out Salem once Covid stabilizes. Hopefully, early to mid 2021.
Hey there! I guess this depends on where you are moving from but compared to many states we do have pretty high property taxes here in Oregon & in Washington as well. That does fluctuate depending on the side of town you buy on though. Any specific questions I can answer for you about salem or surrounding areas? :) that is exciting.
@@oregonhomeswithmariahcrawford Realtor.com has a 'crime' option when looking at their map. Are you able to give an opinion on the accuracy of that feature being that you are familiar with Salem? I was looking east of highway 5. East of 99E We can call you when we get more serious and when we take a trip out there early next year.

Shooting every night in NE Salem. Homeless problem. Cant use the downtown because its gross and filled with homeless tents covering the sidewalk. Poo and needles. Smells like smoke amd piss. Ice storms. Power goes out a lot here. Property theft is high. SE Salem parks are nice but very pricey to live in that area
