Lived in Central Oregon since I was a young child and then lived in Bend for over 40 years. Raised our kids in Bend. We recently moved to Redmond which is 15 miles from Bend and it's the best move we ever did. Bend is nothing like it used to be. Bend was an amazing place to live in the 80's & 90's before everything started to change. It was like the word got out about how nice it was, no crime, cheap to live here, not crowded, and then more & more people began to move to Bend and many of them brought there large city ideas with them. Housing & shopping started to be built on every empty space, older businesses began to disappear and new ones took their places. Which then caused a housing shortage and rent & home prices increased so much that no one can afford to live there anymore which is why we bought our home in Redmond. Bend homes are now so expensive that your average income family can't afford to buy a home in Bend. Bend now caters only to the wealthy rich and it's really sad.
Blame it on social media! Also, sadly things are changing all over. Much like people that moved into Bend and made things worse, you and others like you moving to Redmond will have an impact there as well. Maybe not as much and not as quick but it will. If you asked the local of Redmond, they will probably say similar if not the same things you said about Bend.
Grew up and still live in Bend. Roughly 42 years now. This town was absolutely amazing at one point. And was the fastest growing small town in the US for a little bit. After the spike in new residents, it went downhill and fast. It is now extremely expensive, people aren’t as nice as they once were. And if you want to go on any hiking trail, lake, really anywhere outdoors there are a TON of people and no parking. Smith Rock comes to mind. Every single person that I was friends with in high school have all moved out of Bend due to the high cost of living. I definitely miss old Bend.
I grew up in the old Bend. Moved out 2007. I'm actually here for a few days and do not recognize it. It's practically doubled in size. It's overrun with snotty tourists that constantly scough at locals. I'm standing on the Westside 14th street roundabout and have seen 4 near misses that would have been horrible wrecks. Ppl are so stuck up and fake. I checked rentals and it's 2k for a 1bedrm. Wth. The trust fund babies and dirty hippies are working my last nerve. Now I remember why I moved. The best part of the trip has been the locals.
I miss Bend. Somewhat. I lived in Bend almost 20 yrs ago already... sheesh time flies. I worked at Bend Brewing (the original owners) and homeless Frank and his dog were always hanging out on the sidewalk. Never bothered me. He was actually a nice guy to talk to. I bought a house when I was 25 there. And no, I'm not a trust fund kid. I worked my ass off and saved money for 3yrs before moving there. I had some really good times, with some great people there. Some are still there, and others maybe? I just lost contact. It was expensive for me then. I saw what was happening to the area with development and all the people moving in. I had considered myself a local, after the time I had lived there. I started to see the rude and snobby people that I was trying to avoid. It was just getting too expensive, and overcrowded for me live there. Bend was always pretty chill and kind of unknown. That was the draw for me. But obviously that changed. I could not afford to live there even more so now. I will always have some great memories though.
Bendifornia! Smoke from fires, bad traffic, high prices, rude people, crowded hiking trails, and a homeless crisis. As a native Oregonian it is sad to see this happen. Moving out of Bend was the best decision.
What do you expect, Oregon is run by the same type of people as here in communist-socialist California!!! It will only get worse believe me I was born and raised in CA. and I am 69 years old. As one gets older and is retired it becomes almost impossible to have a happy life!
@@foamyserver My hard work and tax dollars that supported you for the last Fifty years and you are totally ungrateful. You have to be a worthless liberal still living with your parents or a total "trust baby"!!
Once upon a time Bend was so wonderful. I was lucky to have experienced it in the 90's trail riding, white water rafting, hiking, camping, and skiing. Those days will always be in my heart, even if it's broken now.
I lived under a bridge in bend for years on and off between couches & many seasons camping while working. 10 years back it was okay 12 it was amazing... the bay moved in and its California now...
Born in Bend 55 years ago, I'm 3rd generation out of 6 generations, Bend is not what is was 😥, over crowded, so much homelessness, prices are outrageous, rent for a 1 bd is $1,400/$1,600....Absolutely ridiculous here now !
@@paulmarsh9905 I said I'm 3rd generation here and I am 55 ! My mom is 77 and my grandparents came out to Bend moons ago 🤪 I sure do miss the ole bend so much 😥 gods sweet blessings
Bend is a tourist trap. Filled with people from big city's who wanted to move to a small town. But cause of the fact that moved to bend they are slowly destroy what they loved about the town. It's also has become a very toxic place.
I noticed this everywhere in the west, ‘mountain’ towns. They’ve all increased in prices even as rest of us keep wanting to escape big cities for small mountain towns.
I grew up in Bend. It was a great place years ago,but now there are tons of homeless, crime, and Californians. The trail systems are completely overcrowded. The mountain is packed 100% of the time. And its nearly lost completely what made the place special. Too many wads.
my whole extended family/Ohana moved to Bend, from Hawaii, over the course of 30-20 years ago. It seems to attract people from Hawaii migrating to the mainland. I think you covered the cons well. most people I met in Bend, migrated from the Oregon Coast in search of sunshine. the old timers say Bend with the rapid growth has lost some of its small town friendliness. They say they like us “because we are not snooty.” the other point I would make it is very DRY arid climate that can take some adapting to. If you are “farm to table” growing biodiversity veggies etc. can be a challenge and they are struggling with water shortages due to drought. it has first rate both allopathic as well as holistic practitioners and medical care, however, the pharmacies are always maxed out due to the rapid population growth, causing people to complain about the wait time. thanks for the video. covered cons in a “positive” way.
Lived in Redmond, worked in Bend. Back in 2012 - 2014. Used to come out from work in Bend and there would always be groups of deer hanging out at the side of the building near the parking lot, also tons of Geese always lounging around out there to.
I m currently on vacay in Bend for a week. Bend is tourist town, of course you see tons of crazy people. I wouldn’t mind. The place itself is beautiful. Very easy access to get to places which I like. A short visit is really nice but to live I don’t know. Thanks for the input.
I live in Portland and love to visit Bend in the winter (I’m originally from MN so I crave cold and snow). But now we want to leave portland (too expensive) and will NOT consider moving to Bend. Its in over its head with people moving there. Instead we are probably going to move to…Salem of all places. Cute town, quiet. Affordable unlike Bend. Plus close to Portland and our fav part of the coast and all the glory of the cascade range.
I've lived in Bend for many, many years. A decade ago the town was amazing and I paid 585 for a one bedroom. Now that same apartment is 1875 and I've had to move several times to the point I'll have to leave Bend soon as I simply can not afford the rent anymore. Working 3 jobs and still struggling. You're right internet here is garbage and BBB is the devil. 😆
Yikes. I'm actually one of those stereotypical SF Bay area (potential) remote workers looking to GTFO and, also being from a poor area having struggled for rent, that is f'ing ridiculous. Kind of expect that when you have tons of rich tech workers flooding a poorer town. I'm pretty convinced that I wouldn't want to contribute to that myself if I were to ever move out of CA. I don't know why more remote workers aren't considering staying in CA but just finding a more rural town or going remote suburbs. Especially since those areas are better equipped to handle it.
I lived in Bend for 17 years, it is so congested due to overpopulation for the size. Worse thing about Bend, people do not know how to drive or over stimulated. Very expensive to live there. I call it lil LA! Good stuff about Bend, A lot of good people, the out doors, a lot of hiking and biking lots to do but then again $$$ I left 10 years ago to Southern oregon, one of the best things I've ever did!! Oh and the Concert line up is spectacular! A lot of music going on in Bend. ❤
I am a Floridian who moved to Bend with my family literally on a whim. We just got tired of the low pay and ghetto attitude around us. The craziest thing is all those things you say are true about Bend, especially the high rent, yet it was the easiest time I have ever had making a living. We stayed in a nice hotel in the Old Mill area with a kitchen for $500 a week, which at that time I thought was expensive. I doubt that you can find a deal like that now. We eventually found a nice home to rent near the Butte off Bear Creek. Our landlord was great and our rent was actually reasonable considering. We arrived right at the beginning of the pandemic, so I did Instacart. It was a ghost town at that time so I was banking, working half days. The river was fun but cold. The people are a lot nicer than I’m used to, but they are very generous and kind for the most part. I got a midnight job at a convenience store so I met a lot of people, and most of the China Hat homeless. Homelessness is a huge problem there and needs to be addressed. Meth is really bad as is heroine. I did manage to greatly reduce the number of people using the bathroom as a shooting gallery. Day one i took a picture of over 20 used needles in the trash can. Believe it or not, some of the best people I met were homeless, and even worked with some. Yes, some work full time jobs. We have since moved back to Florida, and yes, Florida is as bad, if not worse than the crazy stories you hear. All in all, I would have to say that my Bend experience was a good one. The only reason we left was the politics. I am Apolitical, at least on the national level, and was kind of disturbed at the general level of trust that many there, give to politicians. I will leave it at that since I am not interested in politics or arguments over such. However, it was the reason we came home. We would have eventually anyway. Overall though, Bend is a very nice place, but the locals do have a right to be a lil more than irritated at the influx of people. I don’t blame ‘em.
@@bloodspartan300 Other people’s politics. When other people’s political ideologies invade my personal life. You can have your own opinion if you want, but I know me better than you, since you’re not me.
@@bloodspartan300 How’s that? If someone’s political ideologies cause actual trouble in my life and my family’s life to cause me to have to move, how does that make me political? That was a shot from the hip from you. You don’t know a damn thing about me.
@@pael8889 Exactly. I grew up in Bend and now all the Californians who have have bought everything up are forcing their ideology down our throats. I honestly don’t care what other people believe, but when you force me and my family to comply, that’s when we have a problem. Moved to Redmond as a result. So much better in every way for the most part.
Great videos, always enjoy watching them, been here a few months now and love it. Def hit on a lot of the pros and cons and I think you lay them out well.
I work in bend just for the extra pay but it’s too busy too big for us so we live 90 miles outside of bend , you do gotta learn and be confident in driving in the winter ,
Don’t worry! Currently visiting. Bend is a great place with great people. I don’t think a lot of people will continue moving here. Oregon is a paradise state, but the taxes are ridiculous. There are many more paradise out there as well as overseas.
@@michaeldavis8250 Its the people that aren't cautious in adverse driving conditions that will kill you. Unfortunately thats every other person on the road! The perils of being popular.
As a Missourian that moved here about a year ago, I was shocked to find that Bend is terrible about snow/ice removal. Coming from a state that gets significantly less snow/ice totals and MODot working 6 hours prior to maintaining quality road conditions continuing 24 hour snow removal; living out here for the 1st winter was a shock that they don’t continually maintain the roads. I figured at least the highways would kept on, but that is certainly not the case.
Lived in bend all my life you can’t remove snow faster than it falls so they wait It would be to expensive to have sleds running at all hours of the day learn how to drive is what bendites say if you can’t drive in the snow don’t move to bend
Snow removal issue is because the city managers in charge of the retirement or pers funds for city workers screwed up super bad a few years back and didn’t inform the public that grossly mismanaged taxpayer funds. Thats why!
Hoping that this winter 2022 makes people rethink living here. Internet sucks here! Truth! If multiple people needing internet forget about it….who can afford a home? Much less rentals
I went to visit home for the first time in probably 10 years right after Thanksgiving, and I stopped at 7-Eleven to get some food and got out of the car and got blown over in the wind and started slipping on the ice and thought to myself I really miss this?
its ugly. Sorry. Just my opinion... as soon as that crappy ass Modern housing looked started to pop up we knew gentrification was happening.. I'm sure he is a great man and builds what people want but dear god.... stop already.
Bend was an amazing place as a kid in the late 70s. Caving, hiking and rock climbing with my dad… great memories! To bad oregon went to heck in a hand basket in the late 80s :/.
We've been inundated with smoke most summers, but the past two years we have had the worst air quality in the entire world, and it was unsafe to breathe for weeks on end. We had to put wet towels under our doors to help keep the smoke out and had to change our AC filter daily because it was black. You couldn't even find furnace filters for over six months because people were desperately trying to breathe in their homes. We have been in severe drought here for years with record lows on all our lakes, etc. Last year, people all over Central Oregon had their wells run dry. We cannot continue to accept these unsustainable numbers of Californian and other transplants. It won't be long and we will have major wildfires here. Most locals I know are moving out because it is overrun with entitled Bay Area remote workers who have literally ruined everything about our once small, peaceful town. I just read that they are expecting 200k additional people to move to CO over the next 20 years. It is impossible to imagine the destruction and loss of quality of life that will generate.
I suggest the top of Mt. Crumpet. Isolated, quiet, but close enough to Whoville if you really need to go into town for Costco runs and the like (although still no Whoville Trader Joe’s that they’ve been promising for years 😖)
I've lived in bend for 15-16 years, and it's trying so hard to be a big city, but we don't have the infrastructure for it. thankfully i'm moving in January or February
@@sadie1150 bend has become something it’s not. it’s no longer this community of people, i feel like the mayor only cares about tourism and not about the people who live here. it’s stale. and it just doesn’t fit my lifestyle
I’ve been a Bend resident going on 30 years now. Just over the last 5 -10 years (more so the last couple) the growth and housing developments popping up all around me is not only terrifying, it’s more importantly unsustainable. Our infrastructure can not handle the influx of cars, nor the strain on all the beautiful trails, lakes and rivers that previously you could visit without seeing another soul. I know change is inevitable, but enough is enough! To give you an idea of the surge.. We played the “license plate game” with people from work, You know the one played on road trips? Well we played that here in Bend… And one of our employees got all 50 states.. over the weekend! So to anybody looking for a new beginning, please come to visit, we love tourists, just please don’t stay!
I moved away from Bend 5 years ago, I loved living there sooo much!!! I haven't been back in 3 years. I was looking at housing there the other day for fun - can't believe how much it has gone up. But I will admit, I still miss many of my favourite places there. There's no place really like it. Amazing food, beautiful landscapes, great outdoors activities, dog-friendly, great music scene, awesome beer, hot springs, national forest,
I moved to Bend, Oregon in April of 2009 to be closer to my brother who also had purchased a house there a couple years earlier. i hiked, biked, skied, did the dog walking, river time, good eats from local places, etc ..... and YES, back then was AWESOME !!!! But it is NO LONGER THE SAME !!!!!!!!! So, having lived in BEND for MORE THAN A DECADE !!!! ......... the CHANGES in BEND ........ have MOSTLY been for the BAD !!! very sad. QUICK THOUGHTS: influx of newbies is NOW INSANE and has DESTROYED the "little town vibe" with OUT - OF - TOWNERS from CA !!! TRAFFIC is HORRIBLE. I keep in touch with some folks there still and THEY SAY it really really is BAD. ROADS can't handle influx !!!!! HOUSING IS INSANELY PRICED ....BOTH FOR PURCHASE, or RENT !!!!!!!!!! Move to BEND, ..... prepare to give YOUR money away to live. The LIBERAL MINDSET of PORTLAND and SEATTLE creeped into BEND & NOW SUCKS .... from the moronic city planners who are too STUPID too PLAN ACCORDINGLY ......and NOW THE HOMELESS POPULATION HAS EXPLODED IN BEND, Oregon !!!!! EXPLODED !!!!! Instead of the HOMELESS POPULATION living in nearby woods, .... ENTIRE STREETS are now full of TENTS, Broken RV's and TRASH. VERY UNSIGHTLY and DANGEROUS NOW. DRUG NEEDLES seen a lot now !!!! People work THREE JOBS and STILL can't even find a reasonable place to RENT !!!! that too is INSANE and the city planners have basically turned a BLIND EYE to that disgrace !! COST of LIVING IS INSANE !!!!!!!!!! City "NON"-planners .... have effectively DESTROYED a once in a dream "LITTLE TOWN". The "hidden drug problem" in BEND .....GROWS WORSE THAN EVER ...... from all the METH, HEROINE, and COCAINE, + POT smokers !! And so CRIME IS ON THE RISE ......... but THE POLICE AND CITY PLANNERS ......... are all HUSH HUSH about the growing CRIME RATE. The CRIME IN BEND .....is NOT truly reported as it all should be. Rather, CRIME RISE IS COVERED UP .... or NOT spoken about !! People get stuff stolen ALL THE TIME !!!! My brother had his vehicle broken into and 1,000's of dollars of stuff stolen !!!! THE BIKE THEFT IS INSANE in BEND !!!!! The police collect them and have an auction-like sale to MAKE MONEY off of someone else's STOLEN PROPERTY ........ RATHER THAN TAKE THE EFFORT TO FIND THE CRIMINALS LURKING IN NEIGHBORHOODS !!!!! INSANE !!!!! TRAILS and SKIIING is CROWDED THAN EVER !! More dog poop than EVER .... and MANY do NOT even clean it up after their pooch. DISGUSTING !!!! Almost like Pelosi's state of COMMIE-FORNIA with poop maps maybe needed in the future !!!!!!! That is LIBERALS. So, ...... having lived there for more than 10 years and seen and experienced the smaller BEND ....... I HAD ENOUGH. I moved. People that grew up in BEND can barely sustain a living anymore and students mostly move out of BEND. The LOCALS are displaced by the influx of LIBERALS and other genuinely nice folks that heard of the "NICER and SMALLER BEND". PLUS ..... one of the LEAST talked about sections of living in BEND ......... is ......... THE CLOSE PROXIMITY TO VOLCANOES !!!!!!! When the CASCADIA VOLCANOES and EARTHQUAKES DO GO OFF SOON ......... BEND WILL BE A GHOST TOWN or DESTROYED. IF an event like EXPLODING VOLCANOES and EARTHQUAKES go off ....... THE RISING ASH will plummet the HOUSING IN BEND !!!!! Imagine if 80 percent of a town .... JUST DISAPPEARS ????? Or if it is so bad of an event .... THAT EVERYONE JUST LEAVES ??? HAS ANYONE ACTUALLY THOUGHT OF THIS EVENT IN BEND ????????? >>>>> SUDDEN DESTRUCTION !!!!!!!! YES...... there USED TO BE ....... lots of BENEFITS ....... to living in BEND............ but those days are NO LONGER..... very sad. YA BEST DO ALOT OF THINKING BEFORE GOING INTO THE HOT ZONE OF A SIESMICALLY ACTIVE ZONE of VISIBLE VOLCANOES.
After living there for years and moving away, I went back and yes, stayed at that Motel 6. Well, what I remember, it was safe the last time I lived in town. Ah, no! I thought it would be a good value for the money. Now, the employees were the most kind and caring I've ever met. Almost so much they'd stand watch outside your door over night if they could. But it was so bad sleeping that night. I had several trips to my car parked as close as possible and I feared for my life just getting my luggage. The motel door was firmly locked, but I thought some criminal would break in at any moment. I might have saved money, but it was not worth the constant anxiety.
Hey man, me and my girlfriend and our 3 dogs just moved here in the south east duplex neighborhood and our neighbor HATES us, damaging our car filing noise complaints, and being super petty…any recommendations on which neighborhood is dog friendly and doesn’t mind a little bit of noise?
I dont think people understand how central oregon has become overpopulated. homes for 120k are now 800k and its the same home. what people dont realise is that the local jobs have not risen and there is not enough of them to support as many people that live there. so local people are easily replaceable by employers out there, always someone to take your place if you mess up. The employers know this. I have experienced is first hand. so plan on not very good pay locally and remember, that "pay" was based on what the homes "use" to cost not what the going rate for a home is now. with the outrageous costs of property now. it makes it so only the people with money from out of state will be able to own a home here. if you have kids here and they are graduating high school, the odds of them being ever able to afford a home here are very "VERY" slim as the local jobs will not support a high enough salary for them to do so. if you think you have more money living here since there is no sales tax... think again. uncle sam gets his hands on 100 percent of your money here where as in non income tax states you get to keep that. rent in non income states is not taxed, nor is the essential foods like potatoes and milk and butter. here you will be taxed for all of it altho you dont see it because your only thinking "hey there is no sales tax so I should have more money right?" wrong.. guess again.... with the cost of homes going up well you can imaging so has everything else. people coming in from areas that never seen snow like california end up causing more accidents in the winter time and resulting in way more deaths per year, head on collisions and loss of life for loved ones. driving on black ice requires skill and a vehicle capable to handle it. most people find out the hard way and ushally its the other vehicle that suffers the fatalities. physics and mother nature never cut anyone any slack. you mess up and you will pay the price. i was born in bend and i had to leave. its my home and i cant afford to buy a home there. property tax is another thing. while its the certainly high it may very well be the highest in the state. there is a saying in bend/central oregon.... its called poverty with a view. its pretty sure but it does not sustain incomes. people more in with money to retire and once the moneys gone your screwed. thats also why they say central oregon has a tendency of bringing people in but not letting them leave cus they have no money left to do so.... do your research but this coming from a guy that lived in oregon his whole life some 20 plus years. bend is pretty but its not without its dark secrets. those secrets are geared at taking away your life savings in a hurry. oh and btw if your single specifically a woman you better do a inmate check on the guy your seeing there. there are loads and i mean loads of convicts, and ex prison inmates living there. there are a ton of sex offenders living in central oregon, looks it up and see for yourself. and then think those are just the ones they know about.
Videos like this aren't helping and full of BS. Long time local here too, and so sick of all these realtors and advertisers selling us out for their profits.
Hello, What are the other small towns in surrounding areas of Bend, if any?? As for the diversity, I realize the state of Oregon wasn't/hasn't ever been keen on welcoming or opening up to outsiders, or people who do not look like them. But when i hear things have gotten 'out of control,' could you refer to what you are talking sbout specifically? describe as being toxic, would you kindly share what you are referencing? And moreso, if there is any hinckling of the town wanting to exchange the previous for the benefit of all? Regarding diversity, i am referring to diversity in every way (culture, ethnicity, religious preferences, transgendered, men versus women, age, ) for those who live within Bend, and any other small towns that surround Bend, if there are any? (Not the bigger cities that are hours away) Thx for putting this video together!
Could you speak on the schools in OR? Very curious which schools are better than others and details of their concentrations? Hoping to relocate this summer and trying to find housing now.
My brother and my sister migrated to this area just for that purpose I don't have kids that I send to school so I'm not really sure but I do know that I got four nieces and four nephews that love going to school before the pandemic happen it seems like teachers here have a little bit more of a laid-back approach I have a couple of friends that are teachers one is at Pilot Butte Middle School and the other is at Summit High School
Yeah bro not enough diversity for me. I like my neighborhood about 30% Somalian , 25% Latino, 15% Congolese and the rest miscellaneous. In fact, I'd rather be the only white guy wherever I live.
I moved to Bend in 2011... It was fun for the first 6 years and then got boring, bland and basic quick. Rent got higher, people kept moving in From California and they are nearly ALL crappy, rude, non contributing people. I made the right choice and moved to Sisters and I love it. People are nice if you are real and honest. Being part of the community and contributing by Being a wildland firefighter makes it a great place for me. The locals do what they need to do to keep it from turning into Bend, They don't care for Californians or any other uppity rich snobs who move here trying to be cowboys and girls... they won't even get free firewood or food if they need it... we let the weather push them out if our open disgust in them doesn't..
Where’s Sister’s? I’m considering moving to Hawaii. The Big Island. The only think is I’ll miss Skiing during the winter. Just looking to visit Bend for Mt. Bachelor but not move there. I have an IKON pass I want to use and Mt Bachelor is one of the resorts.

Roundabouts, where feasible, are awesome. I wish more American cities adopted them since they make a lot of sense in _many_ of the places we Americans usually just opt for traffic lights instead, which are so inefficient. Road Guy Rob has a great video on this topic.
Bruh in bend there isn’t a road in without a round a about it is horrible it’s builds up traffic cause the town is so small the infrastructure isn’t built for a lot of cars and is dangerous in the winter cause no one can drive
Heres whats wrong with what hes saying: Most people that were born and raised in Bend are not happy about the fact that others are moving there and want Bend to stay local to own people(which I understand) and multiple interviews with residents say they do not want anyone to move there because they belive that it will become the next big place (which it is).
Yeah. I'm sure if you are a Bend native it must be disheartening to see it turned into a Cali puppy center. The good news is people like myself will visit and not stay. As beautiful as this area is no one wants to live with a bunch of California yuppies.
It is the advertising that is destroying Bend. Being targeted as the "best place in the US to live". Even this guy's videos are total BS, since he makes his living selling to transplants!
I found out the hard way... It's like a time machine.. everyone here seems to live in the past except the people that have moved here from out of state... Whatever you do don't mention the word California...
I've always wanted to move to Bend. I looked into it several years ago. Was too expensive. But I always thought it was a beautiful town when I used to pass through going from Washington to California.
I don’t know why people have said that it’s rainy and cold. October is my favorite month to visit Bend. The fall colors are amazing, and the weather is perfect for hiking. One thing to keep in mind any month you visit is that air quality can be really bad if there are wildfires. I once had to cancel visiting there because of that.

no jobs....for the most part, but most aren't moving here for work high housing cost....it's prime vacation destination, you wouldn't expect "affordable housing" in Park City either nature and wildlife a plenty.....which is why most want to be here, and live the pretend outdoor life (we need more adventure vans!) we get cold.....which is like saying Arizona gets hot you're in the middle of nowhere.....that's an appeal, but still not getting away from crowds, and now traffic roundabouts.....that ain't the issue (4 way stops would be far worst)…..issue: the road infrastructure was never designed for current volumes concert venue.....practically free live music brought to you by the amphitheater, every night in the summer, whether you want it or not change.....people come to Bend for a change of pace...…..but why come here to make changes?
Your money will not go as far in Bend. Majority of stores are just trying to cover the Los Angeles and Bay Area priced commercial lease rates. Majority of your commercial real estate people are from high dollar locations, and have brought that same mentality with them. You will spend the less for a sandwich in Marin County than in Bend. Even tacos cost more from a truck. It is not sustainable, and history will repeat itself with a large exodus when people finally realize that the money that moves here doesn't stay here. Every realtor will fight tooth and nail against all of the points in this video and in this statement, because they are literally fighting tooth and nail for any listing they can get. We're about a year from a failing water supply and sewage disaster.
The best way to visit Bend is by UA-cam. Suggestion for the disgruntled: Move to the North Pole where igloos are dirt cheap -- property taxes? Naw - they pay YOU to live there! Homeless issues? EVERYONE is homeless at the North Pole. They just live in igloos instead of tents.

Depends on what you do for work.... But based on your name I'd say you'll be happier in Lapine... Sorry if I'm making an assumption.. But I lived in Lapine for quite a while and basically the culture was much more country, and bend was much more hipster. Mostly everyone in Lapine hated going to bend it was actually pretty funny

500 dollars down and 100 DOLLARS. PER MONTH? Just for internet? We live in Finland (pop. 5.5 milion,v so not very different to Oregon) where we get a cable TV and internet bundle (50 Mbit/ sec) for 3 euros a month and no down payment. You guys in America have to stop being screwed by the corporations. We could pay for faster but frankly it works just fine for us. And doesn't cost much at all. You don't need two or even three companies competing. You just need to get together and demand better service for lower cost. If you just keep paying more for poor service that is what you will get.
What are big city ideas. I have family in Texas who complain about big bad californians.
@@ederlikessoccerTexas sucked long before the great California migration, they did help it get much worse though lol
42 years-oh my
Lived in Reno Nevada all my life, (expensive)same thing there, way too many people up at Tahoe and everywhere.
I'd move away. Variety is the spice of life
Bendifornia! Smoke from fires, bad traffic, high prices, rude people, crowded hiking trails, and a homeless crisis. As a native Oregonian it is sad to see this happen. Moving out of Bend was the best decision.
Awesome. Good for you Christal. Thank you for the comment
Where did you end up going? I know, risky sharing since you don't want to ruin what makes it great. 😅
What do you expect, Oregon is run by the same type of people as here in communist-socialist California!!! It will only get worse believe me I was born and raised in CA. and I am 69 years old. As one gets older and is retired it becomes almost impossible to have a happy life!

Bend is a tourist trap. Filled with people from big city's who wanted to move to a small town. But cause of the fact that moved to bend they are slowly destroy what they loved about the town. It's also has become a very toxic place.
That's sad.
I noticed this everywhere in the west, ‘mountain’ towns. They’ve all increased in prices even as rest of us keep wanting to escape big cities for small mountain towns.
Very toxic? I run into very little toxicity. Has Bend changed? Yes. Become toxic? No.
Cities change, get a grip. Attitudes like yours are embarrassingly ignorant.
“We’re a high desert…” proceeds to show giant lakes and endless wilderness forests….
Very informative. You definitely cured me of wanting to move to Oregon, especially Bend lol.
I grew up in Bend. It was a great place years ago,but now there are tons of homeless, crime, and Californians. The trail systems are completely overcrowded. The mountain is packed 100% of the time. And its nearly lost completely what made the place special.
Too many wads.
For real? I was fixing on moving from new Mexico over to bend..Is LaPine any better?
Do not come to central Oregon
my whole extended family/Ohana moved to Bend, from Hawaii, over the course of 30-20 years ago. It seems to attract people from Hawaii migrating to the mainland. I think you covered the cons well. most people I met in Bend, migrated from the Oregon Coast in search of sunshine. the old timers say Bend with the rapid growth has lost some of its small town friendliness. They say they like us “because we are not snooty.”
the other point I would make it is very DRY arid climate that can take some adapting to.

Watching from Hawaii, videos/pictures of the area is always helpful! Thanks!
Did you move out there? I live on Oahu. My family and I are moving summer of 2026
I lived in Bend for 17 years, it is so congested due to overpopulation for the size. ❤
How are the school districts? What is the top rated school districts? Are vinyl record shops popular in Bend?
Bend is a nice place to visit.
It's obnoxious when everyone visits but it is what it is. Overpriced tourist town with no real local economy.

Me too. Out by the Badlands. Love it.
And I don't go in to Bend
unless I absolutely have to!

Rather than that how has it been for you so far? Also a Missourian.
Yeah this would've been a great thing to mention in this video. Instead this guy just rambles on for 18 minutes about mostly obvious nonsense.
Thats why!

How is the smoke situation from the yearly fires?? I grew up in Reno, NV so we got it pretty bad there but I was wondering how Bend held up.
Bad. Yuck. Is that good enough? Hopefully the La Nina can kick out the ocean blob.
Horrible, smoke is awful here!

The LIBERAL MINDSET of PORTLAND and SEATTLE creeped into BEND & NOW SUCKS .... from the moronic city planners who are too
STUPID too PLAN ACCORDINGLY ......and NOW THE HOMELESS POPULATION HAS EXPLODED IN BEND, Oregon !!!!!
People work THREE JOBS and STILL can't even find
a reasonable place to RENT !!!! that too is INSANE and the city planners have basically turned a BLIND EYE to that disgrace !!
The police collect them and have an auction-like sale to MAKE MONEY off of someone else's
STOLEN PROPERTY ........
The LOCALS are displaced
by the influx of LIBERALS and other genuinely nice folks that heard of the "NICER and SMALLER BEND".
PLUS ..... one of the LEAST talked about sections of living in BEND ......... is .........
Why do right wingers always type like toddlers?

Lived there 2000 to 2008. Wasn't bad back then but wouldn't move there now.
Hello,
What are the other small towns in surrounding areas of Bend, if any??
This needs to be updated
Hwy 97 can be a nightmare
Bears❓
great honest videos thanks for not skirting around the diversity issue.
It really says something when most of your "negatives" are actually positives.
Could you speak on the schools in OR? Very curious which schools are better than others and details of their concentrations? Hoping to relocate this summer and trying to find housing now.
Hi Amanda! Yes I can definitely make a video, do you want to know about school in a certain area? K-5, Middle, or Highschool?
School system is not great. Born and raised here
My brother and my sister migrated to this area just for that purpose I don't have kids that I send to school so I'm not really sure but I do know that I got four nieces and four nephews that love going to school before the pandemic happen it seems like teachers here have a little bit more of a laid-back approach I have a couple of friends that are teachers one is at Pilot Butte Middle School and the other is at Summit High School
School system sucks
@@modernlivingoregon6721 can you make a video about the highschools in the area, please?
Just wanted to let you know Mb is mega bit and MB is mega byte. 8Mb = 1MB
Thank you! I tend to always confuse them 🙏
Yeah bro not enough diversity for me. I like my neighborhood about 30% Somalian , 25% Latino, 15% Congolese and the rest miscellaneous. In fact, I'd rather be the only white guy wherever I live.
Thank you, you’re doing the locals a service. Can’t stand all these tourists and outsiders ruining the small town aspect
Also if you are really low income only a couple of places you could afford
Hey I’m from California.

Your kidding, right?
I want to move there mainly because the last Blockbuster Video store is there!! 😂😂
Nothing like admitting you’re part of the problem without just saying “hi! I’m part of the problem!”
I've always wanted to move to Bend. I looked into it several years ago. Was too expensive. But I always thought it was a beautiful town when I used to pass through going from Washington to California.
People don't know how to drive around here at all
That’s cause they’re all from California!
They tore down their only mall a long time ago.
Please don’t move here
LOL
How’s the weather there in October?
Rainy and cold
Snow, rain and ice. Cougar sightings in town are becoming more common because of the overpopulation.
I don’t know why people have said that it’s rainy and cold. October is my favorite month to visit Bend. The fall colors are amazing, and the weather is perfect for hiking. One thing to keep in mind any month you visit is that air quality can be really bad if there are wildfires. I once had to cancel visiting there because of that.
also you use telephone based entry link. 100 mb is hard wired. you use wifi. century link at no time or place will b better than cable based bend bb. get educated
Its ruined now... big thanks!!! High rent/homes. Homeless is huge. Crime is skyrocketing.
Little Portland!
What is ‘low’ property tax ? I am going to pay $12k for $600k this year in Brentwood CA
Wow! For $600k in Bend you’ll average $3k-$4k in taxes per year. High compared to some states, but not to Brentwood!
@@modernlivingoregon6721 thanks! And I’m in the little city of Brentwood, not the fancy neighborhood in LA.
no jobs....for the most part, but most aren't moving here for work
high housing cost....it's prime vacation destination, you wouldn't expect "affordable housing" in Park City either
nature and wildlife a plenty.....which is why most want to be here, and live the pretend outdoor life (we need more adventure vans!)
we get cold.....which is like saying Arizona gets hot
you're in the middle of nowhere.....that's an appeal, but still not getting away from crowds, and now traffic
roundabouts.....that ain't the issue (4 way stops would be far worst)…..issue: the road infrastructure was never designed for current volumes
concert venue.....practically free live music brought to you by the amphitheater, every night in the summer, whether you want it or not
change.....people come to Bend for a change of pace...…..but why come here to make changes?
We need to build the wall….
Around the California border….
Are there cheap hostels? I want to travel to Bend probably this year.
I'm from Argentina and I want be vaccinated in USA
I would not and I just moved here
@@craig265 why not? I have a female friend there, my idea is to visit her and be vaccinated in USA
@@juaneink8038 it might be a good idea to be vaccinated in one of the bigger cities and then go visit your friend in bend!
No
Your money will not go as far in Bend.
I was just strolling online curious on other state rents. Don't have much interest in moving to oregon and I thought gee I wonder what rent is in this tiny town called Bend and I was like holy shit who the hell is paying 2k a month to live here lol.

AZ is not one season. On the Mogollon Rim and North there are 4 seasons, winter being serious withe usual snow, ice, freezing temps. & IMO Bend _ucks. Rhymes with duck.

It was in jest and we all get what he means though. When you think of AZ you think of Phoenix or Tucson and the weather is fantastic year round except for 3-4 months of summer when it sucks.

We lived it mid 90s. You guys missed it. Short story. It's over
