  • I recently acquired a "junk" Game Boy Color from an eBay auction. Did I just waste $40 or can I get this Game Boy working again and looking better than ever? Lets take a look at what I bought and see if it was a good purchase.

Corrosion must have stopped sounding like a real word at some point, good video!

Great video! Hope to see a follow up if you replace the battery terminals, headphone jack and speaker!

I really like this type of video, all was well done.
Good job on identifying the corrosion, that speaker is super toast haha

I had a lot of fun making this video as I love repairing and restoring video game stuff, glad you liked it. After making the video I put my ear close to it and you can kinda hear it but it's so quiet. Already got a good replacement on the way though.

You can use vinegar on the battery terminals to remove the rust and oxidation

I'll have to try that, thanks!

Distilled white vinegar to be exact but yes works great. I removed the terminals from my game boy classic and let them soak in some vinegar for 10 mins. Scrubbed and cleaned with IPA and then I was able to power with batteries again.

The speaker is probably okay, but the headphone jack is stuck in the "on" position due to the corrosion, thus turning off the speaker.

I didn't even know that was possible, thanks!

@@KeiRetroGaming Hopefully that helps. Whenever I have speaker issues, that's the first place I check. Since when you plug in headphones, it cuts off the speaker, when the speaker plug is corroded the gameboy thinks there are headphones plugged in.

Do you know a good place to source a 3.5mm headphone jack for the gbc? I couldn't find any of AliExpress.

@@KeiRetroGaming I don't, but I'd try cleaning it with vinegar and a toothbrush first and see if that helps.

Never heard anyone whine that much about cleaning up a console that's 26 years old. Just clean it and move on?
