This is going to be my 1st Spyderco knife! M398 is a first for them & I love the steel... very similar to S90V; huge edge retention, but more toughness than steels like Maxamet or 15V. Love it!
I think its closer to the LionSpy than it is to the SpyOpera. Edit: a lot of people complained about how hard the detent was on the Myto, so i fully expected this version to have a lighter one.
You’re right, I actually completely forgot about that model. Much closer in design. And yes, after using it, the detent does feel light if anything. Thanks!
@@The_commonman Thanks for showing it! I'm really excited for mine to get here. I have a SpyMyto and the Damascus Myto on the way. I'm planning on swapping show scales and clips to get a full ti SpyMyto. I may even go the extra stupid route, and get the CF one as well.
That would be awesome, definitely share how that turns out! And thanks for the info, I’m going to do a little more research on those knives, didn’t know too much about the Lionsteel lineup so I’ll be looking into those for sure.
Your local shop must’ve just put it out when you found it. You got lucky there. Hasn’t even dropped everywhere yet. little notch in the micarta scale is more for thumbhole access than for lockbar access.
The bearings on this knife are a double row of what appears to be ultem or some sort of plastic. I also noticed that they have in my opinion an excessive amount of grease on the bearings that is also on the blade when you disassemble it. I cleaned all of that off as I suspect it would collect a ton of dirt and make the action even worse. Once you clean that grease out and lube it with a proper knife oil the action is much better. I'm currently waiting on my 1/5 skiff bearings to place in the knife to see how they improve the action.
Bruh look at you small UA-cam channel launching the flash batch for Spyderco with your dealer friends Knifejoy and DLTtrading. Congrats my brother I hope I can pick one up next week. You gotta make a video for all the small channels in future how you made this happen. You got the scoop and the advertised for dealers. Freaking awesome! I never thought a small channel would get this kind of honor. I am inspired to start my own channel..freaking so cool
Honestly, this was just a very lucky score from a local knife shop. I have no affiliation with Knifejoy or DLT (besides being a very loyal, happy customer lol) but I would encourage you to! It’s been a blast posting content and engaging with the community. And hope you snag one, thanks for watching!
@@The_commonman oh I misunderstood and thought your local knife shop was DLTtrading or knifejoy. Thats why you were advertising for both during the video to create the hype. So you arent launching the Flash Batch? If not Would you release the local dealers name after it launches tomorrow even if it is DLTtrading or knife joy? I just want to buy the knife if dealers are gonna start selling them. Thanks man cool 🔪 knife
Thanks for the video 👍 The knife looks like a big Spyopera 😁 But with frame lock. In my opinion, it is good that you can dismantle the pinball fairly easily. Would love to hear your thoughts on the new Lionsteel Skinny.
Could you please look if microchipping on the edge is an issue with this M398? I had chips on my S110V as well as an S30V Spyderco, cutting normal Amazon packaging chipped my edges until they were looking like a saw… 🤔
From the research that I’ve done, edge retention should be somewhere around S110 V, or even higher. With its high edge retention, the trade off is toughness. So it’s possible that it may have somewhat of a chippy edge. Of course this is just based off of quick research, I have no experience with M398 so I can’t say for sure.
Greetings from a Tiny Island in Maine, USA - I’m a big spyderco fan but this one does not do anything for me. It reminds me of that doggie knife they have. I will say brilliant option of taking off flipper tab. Best of luck with it.
I own the Lionsteel Myto special edition with K390 steel at 64 hrc, it's a really great knife. The SpyMyto looks good, I just don't like the clip. M398 steel is very interesting. A full titanium bronze version like my Myto I would buy straight away.
It’s a knife and it functions as a knife. I wish it looked good doing it. Spyderco seems really comfortable making knives that don’t look good. I don’t think the Spyderco opening hole looks good on every knife. The gap in the lock bar cutout looks bad. The knife will sell out because it’s a limited edition. But it’s an unattractive knife design. It’s unfortunate because I’m a huge fan of Spyderco knives. I love to see new designs from them.
Set an alert on the website of Lamnia. They haven't gotten theirs in yet so they've been showing as out of stock since last year but will be getting them in any time now. I acted fast and got one from Böker at the beginning of the week. (Their website shows they'll be ready to ship again in june, but I kind of doubt that)
Just got mine. Terrible flipping action and super disappointed in the fact that it’s almost impossible to get access to the lock bar to disengage with one hand. Seems like a big design flaw.
No I don’t think that’s a deal breaker or anything, it just comes down to preference. I prefer a smooth, free action, but you’re right! This type of design generally does cause it to be a bit slower on the drop. I’m happy to say it’s breaking in beautifully!
I don't care for knives with a "show" side, and titanium on the other side. I'd much prefer if they did full ti, and anodized aluminum options like the original Lionsteel Myto.
@The_commonman that's exactly what I'm saying. The original version of the Myto looks so much better. Seemed very wonky to take a great knife design and then ruin the lines of the design by adding a huge hole / hump combo to the frigging blade 😅 and throw on a serial number and call it a flash batch , fml . Italian knives are not made very well from my experiences over the years with lionsteel , viper , fox and mkm.

Quite the knife for a first spyderco!
Ordered one today! This will be my first Spyderco purchase in a while. Seems like a great value for $230.
Agreed!
Haven't seen this one yet & I love it!! Thx for sharing dude💪😎👍
Thanks for watching!
Been waiting forever for this to release
love love love this knife. Super jealous
I think its closer to the LionSpy than it is to the SpyOpera.
Edit: a lot of people complained about how hard the detent was on the Myto, so i fully expected this version to have a lighter one.

I scored one today on BHQ, first thing im gonna do is take it apart!
no wire clip, I love it already
I like that! Much better looking than the Spyopera.
I could do this one.
Your local shop must’ve just put it out when you found it. You got lucky there. Hasn’t even dropped everywhere yet. little notch in the micarta scale is more for thumbhole access than for lockbar access.
That does make sense, thanks! And yes, I got very lucky!
It looks promising! And it's more affordable than I expected.
The price does seem very reasonable
Only 5000 units will be made. Stay updated frequently at different retailers

I have waited for this knife. I will have one.
Hope you snag one! Thanks for watching
drops perfect. You don’t want to drop shut all the way. But I know it’s preference.

Thanks for watching! Very similar to the syopera, which I loved. I’ll have to check that one out!

Limited to 2000 pieces. Which number do you have? (Lasered in the side of the backspacer)

Nice piece, make a dissemble video please
The lock bar has to be lower so the flipper doesn't hit your thumb on close. I own this knife it is incredible.
Makes sense, that aspect is quite nice
My detent is great, I can’t fail it if I try.

These must be dropping soon if shops are selling them
I’d imagine so!
Immediately paused to check all vendors (I have been checking every few days) in Europe (my region) AND IT'S GONE!!! Not quick enough :(
No way.. I’m sorry to hear that!

What knife store in Maryland? Thanks!
Edgeworks in Frederick. Great little shop!
@@The_commonman Awesome! I’ll check them out! I live in Baltimore County- nice to know there is an actual knife shop in Maryland. Btw great review
How many were made ?
As far as I know, only 2000 made.
Spydercos do not need a flipper tab, also I don't like ball bearings on knives :)
I agree about the flipper!
Just got mine. Terrible flipping action and super disappointed in the fact that it’s almost impossible to get access to the lock bar to disengage with one hand. Seems like a big design flaw.
I love the look I hate the pocket clip Don't like it when knives ride that deep.
Wow. Should a knife just slam shut to be decent? The detent is gonna be stiff on this knaf because of the design
No I don’t think that’s a deal breaker or anything, it just comes down to preference. I prefer a smooth, free action, but you’re right! This type of design generally does cause it to be a bit slower on the drop. I’m happy to say it’s breaking in beautifully!
There will only be 5000 made. I would keep it.
Thinking the same thing!
1-2000
5000 units will be made if thats what you are trying to say.
It looks like a cartoon crocodile or shark.
Yep, I see it now lol
I don't care for knives with a "show" side, and titanium on the other side. I'd much prefer if they did full ti, and anodized aluminum options like the original Lionsteel Myto.
Full Ti would be great, but I gotta say the micarta looks and feels very nice
It would look a thousand times better with a straight spine and no big ass hole in the blade 😂
Checkout the Lionsteel Myto, exactly what you’re saying. Personally, I love the ugly spyderco designs haha
